Yahoo Sports NFL on Fernando Mendoza

Mendoza's debut showed accurate progressions and mobility in live action.

In his first live regular-season action, Mendoza completed 6 of 8 passes for 48 yards plus 3 rushing yards in a single drive during garbage time against New England. He showed accurate progressions, good reads, escapability, and a willingness to run when nothing was downfield; all seven passes had zip and were on target to four different receivers, with only one incompletion due to a receiver's footwork and another broken up by a defender sitting on the route. Even when the Patriots increased defensive pressure as the offense moved into plus territory, Mendoza proved capable of handling the task.
