Dowdle had seven rushing attempts to 14 for Warren. My best guess is that McCarthy remembers when Dowdle had a great second half of the season when the duo was in Dallas a couple years ago.

Dowdle reclaiming backfield lead; McCarthy favors him based on Dallas history.

Dowdle has reclaimed the backfield lead after returning from a toe injury. In the Buccaneers game, he received seven rushing attempts to Jaylen Warren's 14, and both were targeted four times. Coach Mike McCarthy appears to favor Dowdle based on his strong second-half performance with Dallas a couple years ago, which was likely a factor in signing him in free agency this offseason. The workload split would have been even closer had the game not gone to overtime.
