if you start Jordan Love and Ja'Marr Chase, a big game from one will have no bearing on whether the other has a big game or not. But if you were to start Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase, instead, things change. If Chase goes off for 200 yards and 3 touchdowns, it's very likely that Joe Burrow had a great game, too.

NeutralUsage

Chase-Burrow pairing increases team variance; Chase-Love pairing has no correlation.

Chase is used as an example in two covariance scenarios: (1) pairing Chase with Jordan Love (different teams) creates no serial correlation; (2) pairing Chase with Joe Burrow (same team) creates high positive correlation—if Chase goes off for 200 yards and 3 TDs, Burrow likely had a great game too (minimum 200 passing yards and 3 TDs). Starting a QB and WR from the same team increases team variance.
