In his last game before the bye, Samaje Perine finished with 16 touches, 78 total yards, and a score as Chase Brown's backfield running mate. I'm not willing to declare Perine as a standalone flex play moving forward, as that was the first game of the season where Perine had more than eight touches.

STACKED’s take

Negative signalRole

Perine's 16-touch game is noise; won't flex him against Baltimore's tough run D.

Perine finished Week 5 with 16 touches, 78 total yards, and a score, but the source is not willing to declare him a standalone flex play moving forward. That was his first game with more than eight touches all season. In that game, Perine played 50.8% of snaps with 45.2% rushing volume but only 33.3% route share. Brown dwarfed him in red zone snap rate (63.2% vs. Perine's implied lower rate), suggesting Perine's increased usage is more noise than signal of a sustained role expansion. The source will not flex Perine this week against Baltimore's elite run defense.
