Matt Harmon on J.J. McCarthy

McCarthy's elite arm talent makes him dangerous backup if protected; chaos mode is his weakness.

Matt Harmon identifies McCarthy as the most dangerous backup quarterback because he has elite arm tools but requires a clean pocket to succeed; in chaos mode, he's horrendous and tries to muscle in throws that defenses read easily, but in a clean pocket he sometimes looks like a top-level starter. Harmon projects McCarthy could look good in the second half of the season given the Giants' solid offensive line, clean offensive design under Matt Nagy and Greg Roman, and John Harbaugh's confidence-building approach.
