Yahoo Sports NFL on Sione Vaki

Vaki's 11-carry, 65-yard performance could cement him as the Lions' future backup.

Backup running back Sione Vaki had 11 carries for 65 yards and a catch for five yards in Week 8, a strong performance that could establish him as the Lions' backup running back for the future. The source highlights not just the results but how he was getting them—breaking tackles for extra yards and showing speed that made him look explosive. Without Vaki to give Gibbs a break, the offense wouldn't have been as explosive.
