Cam Ward has seemingly turned the corner a little bit...he was the worst quarterback in the league the first six games of the season. Like, he was awful...the last couple weeks, I feel like he has turned a corner... Cam Ward is he has one of the quickest releases in the NFL...did he play more efficient quarterback? Yes. But as Cam Ward arrived, no.
STACKED’s take
Improved efficiency but not yet elite; quick release suits fast-paced scheme but decision-making remains concerning.
Derek Brown notes Ward was the worst quarterback in the league the first six games but has improved significantly over the last couple weeks, delivering his best tape of the season. Ward has one of the quickest releases in the NFL and should operate in RPO schemes with scheme throws (slants, bubble-and-go) to exploit his arm talent and pace of play. Last week Ward showed efficiency with 8.7% RPO rate (fourth-best), 15% screen rate, 6.6 average depth of target, seventh-fastest time to throw, and seventh-highest first-read rate. However, Brown is not fully committed to Ward having arrived; these metrics reflect easy first reads and quick-hitting plays rather than progression mastery. Brown remains concerned about Ward's coverage recognition (struggled with disguised safety looks in preseason, showed improvement but still limited), pocket awareness under pressure, footwork consistency, and decision-making—citing a third-and-three sack on Cincinnati's 45-yard line in the fourth quarter as one of the worst plays of the season. The Cardinals have added a pace wrinkle and are now playing at the fastest pace in the NFL, which elevates the floor of the offense and complements Ward's quick release.
