He played all 17 games, led the sport with over 400 fantasy points, consumed more than 900 snaps and 400 touches. However, running backs cannot handle workloads of this magnitude in consecutive seasons. Since 2000, there have been 13 instances of a running back logging 400 carries in a season (including playoffs), and none was among the top 10 RBs the next season. Saquon Barkley failed in 2025, validating this pattern. McCaffrey, now 30, is unlikely to repeat the achievement, and the 49ers will be far more cautious with his workload.
