STACKED’s take
Lemon's -5 yard debut and immediate tackles highlight Eagles' blocking issues in new scheme.
Eagles rookie wide receiver Makai Lemon had a difficult debut in Week 1 against Washington, catching three passes for minus-5 yards. Lemon caught the first pass thrown to him in the flat for a gain of three yards, but the Eagles then twice ran a play when Lemon went in motion and Jalen Hurts threw the ball to him behind the line of scrimmage; on both occasions he was tackled almost immediately, once for minus-three yards and once for minus-five yards. Lemon acknowledged 'Lots to improve on' after the game. The Eagles' new micropassing game under coordinator Sean Mannion has blocking and timing issues, and Lemon motioned behind Hurts from left to right before the snap, catching a screen well behind the line of scrimmage, then getting swarmed by unblocked defenders—this happened twice in Week 1.
