I know coming into the draft we were actually about to draft him in San Francisco. Kyle [Shanahan] loved him. He ended up getting taken right before we were picking.

49ers nearly drafted Skattebo; would have paired with McCaffrey as elite tandem

The 49ers were eight picks away from drafting Cam Skattebo in the 2025 NFL Draft. Kyle Shanahan loved Skattebo, but the Giants selected him with the 105th pick, forcing San Francisco to pivot and take CJ West with the 113th pick instead. Had Skattebo landed in San Francisco, he would have paired alongside Christian McCaffrey to form one of the best running back tandems in the NFL.
