He's talented. He was a top-10 pick for a reason, and there's plenty of good tape, even in the NFL, out there. He can throw it. He can run it. He can make plays.
STACKED’s take
McCarthy acquired by Giants as high-upside young QB; Harbaugh impressed by talent.
The Giants acquired McCarthy from the Minnesota Vikings for a 2027 fifth-round pick in Week 3, signaling the team's desire to add a young quarterback with first-round pedigree and upside. Coach John Harbaugh praised McCarthy's talent, stating: 'He's talented. He was a top-10 pick for a reason, and there's plenty of good tape, even in the NFL, out there.' Harbaugh noted McCarthy 'can throw it. He can run it. He can make plays,' though acknowledged areas for improvement. The source indicates McCarthy is under contract for at least two more years and will get acclimated to the team and offensive scheme this week before potentially taking over as starter. The trade signals the Giants felt they needed 'someone with more upside' at the backup position and didn't think Jake Haener offered enough.
