Yahoo Sports NFL on J.J. McCarthy

Giants acquired McCarthy as Winston backup; third-string in initial drills.

The Giants traded a fifth-round pick Monday for former first-round pick J.J. McCarthy to serve as backup to Jameis Winston. McCarthy was the third quarterback up—behind practice-squadder Jake Haener—in individual drills at his first Giants practice, and he stayed after with Winston for extra work. Both are NCAA national champions who became top 10 draft picks.
