0:00There's a lot of coaches that just look
0:01at second and short and they're like,
0:02let's just go pick it off. Let's pick it
0:04off. Like Greg Roman had a stretch from
0:06middle of 2019 to his end of his
0:08Chargers career where
0:10every second and one to two, they had
0:12135 runs and one pass. And like that's
0:14just literally what he was. I swear we
0:16got And like legitimately, so like we
0:19played him in the chart with the
0:20Chargers last year and it was actually
0:21it was actually the game that Tom Brady
0:23came up and was in the booth and like
0:24he's literally sitting next to me and I
0:26have like all these tables and stuff and
0:28I'd bring it up on the headset different
0:29times and like they get in a second one
0:30to two and I like look over at my
0:33And my little chart and it's like,
0:35here's the run thing and I'm like
0:36telling Pack Ram and Pete and like sure
0:37enough they run it. Like that's just
0:39what he does. And they're like people in
0:41the booth are like, "Oh, damn, that's
0:42cool. Like how'd you know that?" And
0:43like, "Okay, well, it was a pretty good
0:46tendency."
0:47>> [laughter]
0:48>> And the best part is the one time that
0:49they actually passed, it was like an
0:51up-tempo play in the second quarter
0:53against the Patriots and they took a
0:54brutal sack. But this idea that even in
0:57like third and shorts and fourth and
0:59shorts, like there seems to be like a
1:00wellness from Ben to try to rather than
1:02leaning into the sneak thing, he's like,
1:04"I'm going to try to go for big plays as
1:05much as possible." And then as much of
1:07the first and second down stuff, he's
1:10he's so 50/50 in everything. A lot of
1:12the analytics guys criticize him on the
1:14second and seven to 10 runs, but I think
1:16there's actually like a master plan
1:18where essentially you can't game plan it
1:20going forward as opposed to like I think
1:22Steichen's a great coach, but like
1:24everyone in the league had caught on
1:25they were throwing every time on second
1:27and seven to 10 as the season went on
1:28and it's like, "Okay, do you start
1:29calling different defenses?" And I think
1:31that's part of what makes Ben Johnson's
1:33offense sustainable.
1:35And people have asked like, "Are people
1:36going to catch on to your offense?" And
1:37he just like laughs about it and I'm
1:39kind of with him in the sense that what
1:41are they going to figure out that you're
1:4250/50? Like
1:43>> Yeah, then what? Yeah.
