Aaron Jones

NegativeBust24:40

Fell off a cliff last year on 150 touches with extremely poor underlying metrics. Showed signs of slowing down last season, and the Vikings will be careful to limit his touches this season. Liam Cohen ranked Jordan Mason ahead of Aaron Jones before the Collar report and is now completely doubling down on that ranking. Cohen views Aaron Jones as one of his fades and felt good after writing him up. He believes the team knows Jones has hit his cliff, evidenced by Jones returning on a much smaller contract than previously.

Insight page

Chris Brooks

NegativeRole21:00

Not a real running back but rather an RB3 hybrid/fullback player. Was a lead blocker for Josh Jacobs for much of last season. The Raiders want Marshawn Lloyd to be the RB2, not Brooks, limiting his fantasy relevance.

Insight page

Chris Rodriguez

PositiveRole2:00

Rodriguez has a history with Jaguars OC Liam Cohen, who has been excellent for fantasy running backs; Cohen describes Rodriguez as a thumper who picks up hard yards. Rodriguez is more trusted than committee mate Basial Tootin right now and is likely to get goal-line touches. At 5'11", 224 lbs, he won't get many receptions, but if he captures 80% of Travis Etienne's RB10 production from last year, he'll be valuable as a flex starter or RB4. He had a left foot procedure following an early offseason injury but is expected to be a full go at training camp. Rodriguez's EPA per carry metrics on short yardage (5 or fewer yards to go) and in the red zone are elite; he posted +0.2 EPA per carry in the red zone last season, significantly better than committee mates Basial Tootin and Travis Etienne. His upside case includes a Javante Williams-type range of outcomes, with potential to handle goal-line carries and churn yardage in short-yardage situations.

Insight page

Chuba Hubbard

NegativeRole17:00

Hubbard is not expected to completely go away if Jonathan Brooks emerges as the lead back; he's a fine enough back but won't prevent Brooks from reclaiming a lead role if Brooks returns to his early second-round profile. There's a chance Brooks and Hubbard split work early in the season, with a toss-up of who's actually the starter by Halloween and Thanksgiving. Hubbard's presence doesn't significantly diminish Brooks' upside.

Insight page

Jonathon Brooks

PositiveSleeper15:00

Brooks is a running back two drafted in the 11th round on Yahoo (9th on Underdog) with more talent than all other running backs drafted around him; he can catch passes, has lateral shiftiness, finishes through contact, and has the size coveted at the position. Despite two ACL tears—one during his final year at Texas and another in his third game of his rookie season after not playing until week 12—he didn't play all of last year. The Panthers are taking a slow approach with him in training camp, and he hasn't reached his top speed yet. There's very little tape to evaluate since the first ACL tear, though he had some nice flashes in a Tampa Bay game when he returned. The Panthers are clearly relying on him based on their offseason moves, going from Rico Datto (RB1 in multiple weeks last year) to only adding A.J. Dillon. Brooks has the highest upside and league-winning potential among running backs drafted after him if he claims his backfield. He's climbed 21 spots during the offseason and has a chance to be the Panthers' most talented back. Hubbard is not expected to completely go away if Brooks emerges as the lead back; he's a fine enough back but won't prevent Brooks from reclaiming a lead role if Brooks returns to his early second-round profile. There's a chance Brooks and Hubbard split work early in the season, with a toss-up of who's actually the starter by Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Jordan Mason

PositiveValue23:38

Being selected in the 11th round on Underdog and 13th round on Yahoo, six to eight picks after Aaron Jones. The Vikings backfield is the cheapest in drafts with no starting running back going later than Aaron Jones or Jordan Mason. Liam Cohen projects a pathway for Mason to post 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns as the Vikings RB1 for early-down work. Aaron Jones fell off a cliff last year on 150 touches with extremely poor underlying metrics, while Mason averaged the 12th most yards per carry and 10th most yards after contact per rush. During the four games without Aaron Jones last year (weeks 3-7), the Vikings offense was not cooking, and Mason was RB16-RB24 on usage in half-PPR, but Cohen likes him more in half-PPR than full PPR. The Vikings are leaning more into outside zone, which plays into Mason's strengths as a runner. If the Vikings' injury-plagued offensive line stays healthy (they only played together 25% of snaps last season), the running game could improve significantly. Cohen views him as having a pathway similar to the Jamal Williams season where he gobbles up goal-line touchdowns; at the very high end, he could be a Javante Williams-type outcome. Even eight goal-line touchdowns would be enough for him to be a flex play in half-PPR.

Insight page

Josh Jacobs

NegativeRole21:00

Currently under investigation by the district attorney's office regarding potential domestic violence charges. While cleared to practice now, new evidence could emerge at any point, triggering a commissioner's exemption. Typical suspension for domestic violence-related issues is around six games. This legal uncertainty creates opportunity for Marshawn Lloyd to potentially become the starter not due to injury but due to off-field issues.

Insight page

Keaton Mitchell

PositiveSleeper29:00

Mike McDaniel hung wanted posters around the GM's office wanting Keaton Mitchell and the fullback they signed, signaling strong organizational commitment. However, Liam Cohen notes that if Amari Hampton misses half the season, it's unclear if Mitchell will get 15 touches or just 10-12 with Kamani Vidal also involved. Cohen prefers Mitchell in best-ball format because it's impossible to predict when he'll have his 50-yard touchdown games, but he should be drafted in every format to see what happens in week one. When the Dolphins had the number-two scoring offense in the NFL a few years ago, they got two top-five scoring seasons from Keaton Mitchell and Raheem Mostert, plus the number-one scoring wide receiver in Tyreek Hill. Now with Justin Herbert replacing Tua, there's potential for a similar outcome. Cohen believes Mitchell's ADP will only get higher as training camp buzz builds. He's not a pure handcuff because Kamani Vidal will play, but he has flex appeal.

Insight page

MarShawn Lloyd

NegativeSleeper19:48

Lloyd has dealt with recurring hamstring injuries but is currently on the practice field looking good. He underwent full body imaging and discovered he was overcompensating at his ankles and hips due to a prior torn ACL, leading to soft tissue injuries. He's worked with doctors and medical advancements to address these issues. Currently the RB1 or RB2 in drills depending on Josh Jacobs' availability. Lloyd is being priced as if he won't play this year, but Liam Cohen believes his injury risk is not materially higher than other backs given he's healthy today. The team wants him to be the RB2; Chris Brooks is more of an RB3 hybrid/fullback player. Josh Jacobs is older and injury-prone, creating a pathway for Lloyd to get significant touches. His ADP has fluctuated based on injury news and practice participation, but the clearest pathway for him to be the number two runner is if he stays healthy. Lloyd caught a bunch of passes in college and has the size to handle the rock and goal-line work. He was a third-round pick (88 overall) for the Packers. Third-round fantasy running backs going into year three have historically been exciting. If he stays on the field through Labor Day, he should be ranked right next to Tank Bigsby as one of the best handcuffs in fantasy.

Insight page

Tank Bigsby

PositiveValue11:00

Bigsby was traded to the Eagles in week two for fifth and sixth round picks and posted elite efficiency metrics last year: RB1 overall in EPA per carry, RB2 in yards per carry, and RB6 in success rate among 60 qualifying running backs—all better than Saquon Barkley. He's the clear handcuff to Barkley and would immediately enter the top-15 fantasy running back conversation if Barkley misses time. His efficiency metrics suggest he might be the best handcuff on the board, ahead of Isaiah Pacheco. Bigsby is the fifth handcuff off the board but should be ranked higher; there's a legitimate case for him to be the number-one handcuff in fantasy football this season. The Eagles offense is superior to other backup situations, and Bigsby has evidence of being pretty good, unlike Isaiah Pacheco. He's a best-ball play rather than a redraft staple, but grabbing him as your RB5 alongside an RB4 like Chris Rodriguez or Bill Krosky Merritt allows you to play both sides of the sleeper profile.

0:00And we're live from the living room as Doug eyes up the matchday spread.
0:04He's reaching for the Buffalo wing. Perfect! Hang on, what's this?
0:07Oh, he's going for a can of Pepsi too!
0:10Incredible! What a finish! Sensational combination! Look at the delight on his face.
0:14There's no doubt about it, it just tastes better.
0:16Matchdays deserve Pepsi. Food deserves Pepsi. Grab a pack of Pepsi Zero Sugar for today's match.
0:21It's poetry in motion! There is no better feeling in fantasy football than drafting a running back late in your drafts.
0:27And it becomes a full time starter for you in your lineup.
0:30Yes, around week five, week six, he ranks as a top 20 running back in our rankings here on this channel.
0:36Plug and play for you the rest of the season.
0:39Hayden, let's name six of those potential names this year.
0:42Anything you want to say about sleepers in general at the running back spot?
0:46There's kind of like two different versions of it.
0:49There's kind of the committee back that I think has a chance to be like a flex RB2.
0:54That's it. You're just going to get a positive win.
0:57You're not going to win your league because of these guys, but they're valuable.
1:01I have one name here at the very top.
1:03And then the second one is of the pure handcuffs.
1:06I want this guy to be automatically in my starting lineup at least as the flex.
1:11Hopefully as a fringe RB1 on my team. If something happens to the starters.
1:15Interesting enough, I think this year, the clear backups to like the top 15 fantasy running backs.
1:20There's not that many clear cut ones. We're going to identify a couple of the ones that I know the second the starter goes down.
1:27This guy's going to be at the top of our thumbnail list.
1:30Yeah, we've always suggested that we would do a running list of the best running back handcuffs in the NFL for fantasy
1:37football for the entire summer and for the entire season.
1:40Let us know in the comments down below if you actually want us to do that.
1:44Leave a thumbs up while you're down there too.
1:47All right, let's kick things off six names. These have to be either on underdog or in your home leagues like Yahoo
1:53after the start of end of round 10, I should say 120 plus ADP.
1:57So Hayden kick us off the first name. Who is it?
2:00This is Chris Rodriguez. This is definitely more of the committee backfield where I think he's got a chance to be a flex starter.
2:07He has a history with Liam Cohen. Liam Cohen, by the way, has been excellent for fantasy running backs every single time
2:14he's been calling plays in the NFL. Back at Kentucky, he had 1400 yards, 12 total touchdowns as the bell cow back.
2:20Liam Cohen describes Chris Rodriguez as a thumper just pick us up the hard yards.
2:24And that's exactly the type of running back that they did not have on the team this last season.
2:30They gave him more money than we were also expecting when we saw Chris Rodriguez to the Jaguars.
2:35Like, wow, OK, he's actually going to be part of the game plan here.
2:39It's him versus Basial Tootin. I think Tootin's definitely more explosive.
2:42No doubt about that. I think Chris Rodriguez is probably more trusted right now.
2:46LaQuint Allen's going to have his role. Who's going to get the goal line touches?
2:51I think it's going to be Chris Rodriguez. He's 5'11", 224.
2:54Tootin's 5'9", 209. We're not going to get a bunch of receptions out of Chris Rodriguez.
2:58That's totally fine. Travis Etienne just on carries was the RB10 and expected half PPR points last year.
3:03If we get like 80% of that, Chris Rodriguez is going to be A-OK.
3:07There's definitely a cap ceiling here. But for somebody that could be like the fourth running back that you draft on your
3:14team and when bye weeks come around, he's in your starting lineup.
3:17I'm OK with that. He goes in the 11th round over an underdog, 14th round over on Yahoo just to lay the land here.
3:24He had a procedure on his left foot following an injury sustained early in offseason conditioning program.
3:29So we haven't seen him at all in these OTA activities, but he is expected, according to Liam Cohen, to be a full go at training camp.
3:37Zane, who has been doing an incredible job aggregating news lately on Twitter, posted an interesting thought on Rodriguez versus Basial Tootin.
3:43Is it just, you know, the 2026 version of Zach Moss versus Chase Brown, which like early season, C-Rod gets the majority of the work.
3:50They've kind of been rehearsing Basial Tootin, i.e. Chase Brown all summer for a much larger role, both in passing situations and in a running room.
3:58And at some point in the season, it flips either due to injury or just outperformance.
4:03And once it does, there's no looking back. That really caught my attention and hit me deep when thinking about this.
4:09Sure. Yeah, I think the flip side would be like the total upside case with like Chris Rodriguez can have like a
4:15Javante Williams type of range of outcomes. I think that's really low end, but like this is the type of guy that
4:21I think could handle a bunch of the goal line carries and then churn yardage.
4:26EPA per carry on five or fewer yards to go, so like more of the short yardage stuff.
4:31Chris Rodriguez was one of the best in the NFL this last season.
4:34Tootin and Travis Achan did not do nearly as well.
4:37And then also in the red zone, it was plus .2 EPA per carry for Chris Rodriguez.
4:42And then Tootin and Travis Achan were like basically at flat zero there.
4:46So I just think in general, it wouldn't be a surprise if Tootin gets the fancy stuff.
4:51LaQuinn Allen's there in pass protection and then Chris Rodriguez and the four-minute drill at the goal line.
4:56You get your nine half PPR points and you exit out of there happy.
5:00Yeah, the other part of this is, you know, we have LaQuinn Allen in the ballgame in pure four-minute, two-minute, third and fourth and long situations as well.
5:08Yeah, I mean, I think it's fair to say that the Jaguars need to see more from Bachel Tootin to give him a true running back one workload.
5:16They obviously have seen more of Bachel Tootin this offseason.
5:19I also believe Tootin needs to outright fail in order for Chris Rodriguez to be a big winner this year, whether that's
5:25in a game or, you know, this entire offseason.
5:28And, you know, that is in the range of outcomes.
5:31I am drafting just a lot more Bachel Tootin.
5:34He is still climbing than I have so far of Chris Rodriguez just because of like the home run swing aspect of this.
5:40But I think this goes into the package of the two, albeit they are different runners where Liam Cohen and James Gladstone
5:46really care about rush yards over expected. They really care about running backs creating yards on their own.
5:52And both these guys in their underlying metrics have that in their back pocket.
5:56The names in the show will get sexier than Chris Rodriguez, I promise.
5:59Well, let's see if people agree. My name is Bill Krosky Merritt.
6:03All right. I'm intrigued by the post hype sleeper.
6:05That is Bill. In fact, he's going later in your drafts this year than he was last year.
6:11The commanders just overall as a team are projected for the same number of points scored as Indianapolis Colts, the Tampa Bay
6:17Buccaneers, the Houston Texans and the Jacksonville Jaguars. We can compare and contrast each of those rosters, but just looking at it
6:23from a Washington perspective, they only have one wide receiver.
6:26That's it. You have one proven wide receiver on the roster.
6:29Then your tight ends are a question. Running back rooms a question.
6:33Your wide receiver two is a question. As of right now, every other player outside of Terry McCorn and obviously the quarterback
6:39in Jane Daniels is going incredibly late in drafts.
6:42So I can't shake the idea that one of these commanders running backs is going to end up as a massive value at the end of the season.
6:50So the question is, which one is it? Maybe it's Rashad White.
6:53He's going to be the flavor for a bunch of people out there because he's one of the best passing down players in the league, pass protector, receiver.
7:01We know how excellent he is in those situations.
7:04He has been inefficient as a runner so far in his career.
7:07It's actually declined as he's gone along, but his pathway to touches is the clearest of the group.
7:13Or is it Bill who led this backfield and touches last year yards from scrimmage and touchdowns as a seventh round rookie?
7:19And now as a year under his belt, you know, also didn't play football the year before that.
7:24So he has, you know, his football legs underneath him.
7:27And I actually saw quite a few snaps in quite a few games last year where I loved his long strides, love
7:33his ability to create some explosive plays and get to the edge on top of that.
7:38And I wouldn't be surprised if Bill is a really nice fit in this new offense that David Blau is going to instill here in Washington.
7:45Yeah, I think a pretty similar case to the Chris Rodriguez one.
7:49I think his path to being like the clear starter is just a little bit easier because Rashad White's playing on like
7:55a one year, $2 million nothing contract. Rashad White's probably going to be the week one starter, but I do see the
8:02pathway for Bill just looking better as a rusher.
8:04I thought that his long speed was pretty decent.
8:07I saw his patience finding the right hole. That was the thing that kind of stood out with him when I was going back and watching him.
8:15Back in 2024, when Jaden Daniels was actually really good and on the football field, Brian Robinson was the RB28.
8:20Austin Eckler was the RB32. That's the pathway where both Rashad White more as a receiving guy and Bill Krosky merit as
8:27the early down guy could both be flex viable.
8:29And obviously, if one goes out of the way, then this thing can completely consolidate.
8:34The RB3, Katron Allen, we have a full video on our channel about him.
8:38He's like, if we were going to go really deep, deep, deep, deep, deep sleepers, he would be on my list there.
8:44Just kind of keep an eye out on him.
8:46This backfield has like zero investment in it. So it's like anything could happen here.
8:51So I do like taking shots on it. Yeah, you're seeing that both Chris Rodriguez and Bill Krosky merit, who were teammates
8:57last year, have been dropping in ADP quite a bit.
9:00And Chris Rodriguez is still in the negative decline here down from running back 36 to running back 42.
9:05Bill is now running back 40, where he started as running back 37.
9:09In fact, he's actually going later on underdog than he is in your home leagues, like on Yahoo, which we rarely say about any of these players.
9:17One more note here. And Josh Connolly, the second year right tackle for the commanders brought this up.
9:22He said that they were good on outside zone runs last year.
9:26They just didn't run it enough, which kind of goes back to the point that you made about patience and finding the
9:32right lane and cutting up field on it. But that they will this season.
9:36And this is true. Like if you look at fantasy points is metrics out there so that the commanders were best in
9:42the NFL in outside zone at 6.1 yards per carry.
9:45And Bill Krosky merit actually led the NFL in yards per carry and outside zone at 7.6.
9:50And yes, he only had nine catches last year.
9:53That's going to go again to Rashad White. He had four fumbles.
9:56You can't have that. You need to be a bit more trustworthy.
10:00And that's why, you know, for rookies, his attempts and opportunities seem to decline as the year went along versus the opposite, which we love.
10:07But at the same time, again, let's just hope he gets a bit more comfortable and taking more contact than he has,
10:13you know, during his final year of college, which was non-existent.
10:16So this might be an absolute zero. But I also, once again, this is one of those backfields.
10:22And we'll talk about another one here in a minute are going so freaking late in drafts.
10:26And this is at the very least an average offense, potentially that Bill is the one that has caught my eye the most.
10:33Whereas a lot of other people want to draft Rashad White.
10:36And it kind of depends on your platform if it's PPR versus half.
10:40Yeah, I think definitely so. I do think Rashad White's very interesting.
10:43K-Tron Allen, really interesting for like dynasty stuff. Yeah, someone's going to emerge here and be in your starting lineup in fantasy.
10:50And nobody knows exactly who it's going to be.
10:52I'm not sure if we're going to get a confirmed answer in training camp either.
10:57I think there's going to be a rotation here.
10:59And I think that most likely it'll be Rashad White highest in my week one rankings.
11:04By week four, you never know what's going to happen here.
11:07The Bill hype would have been crazy during training camp last year.
11:10It kind of became one of those main players.
11:13But then there were moments where I was like, the talent's there.
11:17And he's actually now not getting nearly enough love as he did back in August and September.
11:21So he was a weird player to track just in our fantasy football bubble last season.
11:26All right. Two down, four to go. Who's next for you?
11:29Tank Bigsby. Also somebody that was getting a bunch of buzz last training camp and then didn't do a whole lot.
11:35But if you go back and review the tape, you're like, hey, there's actually something to this.
11:40Last year, Tank Bigsby, after being traded in week two, by the way, that was fifth and sixth round picks to the Eagles from the Eagles there.
11:48Bigsby was the RB1 overall in EPA per carry, RB2 in yards per carry, and RB6 in success rate among 60 qualifying running backs last year.
11:55For what it's worth, those were all better than Saquon Barkley.
11:59Obviously, this is just about handcuff potential. But if you look at all the top 15 fantasy running backs, all the ones
12:05that are drafted in the first, second, third round, there's so many of them where we just don't know who the RB2 is going to be.
12:12I can tell you guys it's going to be Tank Bigsby if Saquon Barkley misses time right now.
12:18So I think there's a pretty defined role. We know that the Eagles want to run the football.
12:23I'm not sure if Jalen Hurts is going to be pushing quite as much as he was previously.
12:28But Tank Bigsby's got some juice tied with having the size.
12:31It would be Will Shipley, who's like about my size out there as a pass catcher.
12:36And I do think that Tank Bigsby would have a version of the Saquon Barkley role.
12:40That's a valuable role to have here. I think that he would go immediately into like the top 15 fantasy running back conversation if Saquon Barkley misses time.
12:48Who's most likely to miss time? The running backs that get the ball 20 plus times like Saquon Barkley.
12:54In a couple weeks, we'll basically re-rank what we believe and how the first round should be selected.
12:59I'm going to have Saquon Barkley higher than ADP.
13:02And I'm drafting a lot of Saquon Barkley when I can.
13:05If I miss out on Saquon Barkley, I want to draft Tank Bigsby because I believe this is the key to everything for Philadelphia this year.
13:12So many words are written about Sean Mannion and how he's going to fix the passing attack.
13:17You know what fixes that? Is a really freaking good rushing game.
13:21And that alters coverage and how defenses play you.
13:23It's really that simple. That was the difference between 2024 and 2025 for this Eagles offense.
13:28Okay, let's go through this real quick because, you know, running back twos aren't necessarily handcuffs, right?
13:33Like for Amandre's, the common on guys, Blake Corrums, Rico's, JK Dobbins.
13:36Like these are all split backfields. I would not call those handcuffs.
13:40But then we get down to, I mean, where is it?
13:43Isaiah Pacheco is the first true handcuff off the board.
13:46And then, you know, it's Tajay Spears, Zach Charbonnet, Tyler Algier.
13:49And so technically, Tank Bigsby is the fifth handcuff off the board.
13:52He should be higher than that. Like there's a legit chance and case for him to be the number one handcuff in fantasy football this season.
14:00I'm not convinced that Pacheco is really good. I'm not saying that Tank Bigsby is good, but there's some evidence that Tank Bigsby might be pretty good.
14:08So I think that, you know, just betting on the Eagles offense versus, you know, like Algier with the Cardinals.
14:13Now, maybe some people are thinking like Algier might have a role.
14:17I wish you guys the best. Pure backup situations, I would rather have the Eagles running back than the Cardinals running back.
14:23And a lot of the other names, pretty similar situations.
14:26Like your Mike Washingtons, those types out there. Those are bad football teams that you're going to be signing up for.
14:32And then like we don't know exactly Devon Achan's backup, Kenneth Walker's backup, Chase Brown's backup, Christian McCaffrey's backup, Jonathan Taylor's backup.
14:38Like it's one of those years where like the handcuffs behind the elite running backs aren't very good.
14:44So the ones that we feel pretty good about, we should have them.
14:47It's like to me, like grab a Bill Chris Rodriguez, your RB4, and then Tank Bigsby as your RB5.
14:53And then like you kind of play both sides of the sleeper profile.
14:57And that's how you round out your fantasy lineup.
14:59And this is more of a best ball conversation than it is redraft.
15:03Obviously, we don't believe Tank Bigsby is going to have, you know, standalone value on a weekly basis.
15:08He's going to burn a hole in your bench in a lot of your home leagues.
15:13So just think of this more as a best ball dynamic.
15:16Yeah, I mean, as you outlined, 13 explosive runs on 69 carries last year.
15:20Saquon had 30 explosive runs on 314. That's also a tank not playing in the first six games.
15:25Now, when you watch those explosive plays, there was a whole lot of Tanner McKee on the field.
15:30So we know what it was like in the certain moments of those games.
15:34But yeah, I mean, I think Tank Bigsby, just the way he pulls away and gets to the corner in his big frame.
15:41Like it's an explosive play waiting to happen. I really, really still like him.
15:45And I think it's very clear that the Eagles like him a lot too.
15:49Okay. I'm going to go with another one of these running back twos that are drafted and bring up Jonathan Brooks here.
15:55He's in the 11th round over on Yahoo. Obviously, it's much earlier in the ninth round on underdog.
16:01So he wouldn't qualify if we only did that here for this episode.
16:04Obviously, this is all reliant on his knee towards ACL twice.
16:07That's a big deal. And I don't want that to, you know, get swept under the rug when we're having the rest of this conversation.
16:15And I'm sure that the Panthers are still tentative about it.
16:18You have to be when it's two significant knee injuries.
16:21They are clearly relying on him based on their offseason.
16:24I mean, they go from Rico Datto last year who finishes the overall running back one, one and two in three separate
16:30weeks to not filling that void with any investment this offseason other than A.J.
16:34Dillon. And I'll let you make that argument if you want to call A.J.
16:38Dillon back. We know Jonathan Brooks has more talent than all the other running backs drafted around him in fancy football.
16:44Like he can catch passes. He has a lateral shiftiness to make people miss.
16:48He finishes through contact. He has a size that we covet at the position.
16:52So I don't think that this is too different from the bet that we made with Rico Datto last summer.
16:58And that paid off in a massive way. So I understand the concerns.
17:02I also want to play to win and I want to draft for upside.
17:06And for me, among these running backs that are drafted after Jonathan Brooks, I think you can make the case that Brooks
17:12has the highest upside and like league winning potential.
17:15If he outright claims his backfield at some point this season.
17:18Yeah, I almost have like no notes to add on to that.
17:21The only thing that's all was like so far, he hasn't reached his top speed, but they're like playing this the slow game.
17:28He's got to prove it through training camp. You know, win football games in June.
17:32So they're taking the smart approach here and I hope he works out because he was a really intriguing bell cow type
17:38of profile in the early second round. I don't think that Chuba Hubbard is going to completely go away.
17:44So that's like the one thing that's kind of in the back of my mind as Jonathan Brooks.
17:49I think the hype could get out of control here in a second, but there's a reason why he's priced ahead of
17:55a lot of the other RB twos. And like, I think that is right.
17:59Like I'm okay with the price tag. I'd be a little bit nervous if this thing all of a sudden got into like the 80s and 90s.
18:07But if he's healthy, I think that it will be more of a toss up of who's actually going to be the
18:14starter once we get into like Halloween and Thanksgiving.
18:16So I really hoping that he works out because he would be really fun with with Bryce Young, a little outlet.
18:22And Chuba Hubbard, I think, is a fine enough back, but he's not going to prevent Jonathan Brooks.
18:27If Jonathan Brooks is back to that like early second round profile.
18:31Yeah, he has drastically climbed during the offseason up about 21 spots, six spots purely at the running back position.
18:37I mean, again, there's a chance that Brooks ends the season as the Panthers most talented back.
18:42And if upside wins championships, I think this is one that is worth taking.
18:46Again, this only has to be in your home league.
18:48But closing out your running back room with someone like Jonathan Brooks is, I think, just a right way of drafting.
18:54If it doesn't work out, if in the first four or five weeks it's, you know, 65-35 between he and Chuba Hubbard, then sure you can drop him.
19:03But there is going to be an opportunity. I feel like at least one game this season that Jonathan Brooks is the
19:09leading rusher for this team and has the lion's share of the work.
19:13And then we go from there and we see what happens.
19:16Just a really fun play. I mean, just to reset the timeline for people, he tore his ACL during the latter parts
19:22of his final year at Texas, then didn't play until week 12 of his rookie season.
19:27Played three games, tore it in that third, and then didn't play all of last year.
19:31So there's very little we have to go on since that first ACL tear, even if he had some really nice flashes
19:38in that Tampa Bay Buccaneers game where he returned.
19:40But I want to believe and have some fun.
19:43And Jonathan Brooks is really fun. Speaking of that injuries, wanting to have fun, can't prove it.
19:48Marshawn Lloyd is my next name here. It's the same exact thing.
19:51Instead of ACLs, it's hamstrings. But just like Jonathan Brooks right now, if you're at the practice fields, Marshawn Lloyd is on it and he's looking pretty good.
19:59That's all you can ask for. He's doing everything he can to fix these hamstring injuries.
20:04He's seen doctors. He did like full imaging on his body.
20:07He learned that he's a little bit tight in the ankles and the hips.
20:11Same here. And that's going to lead to soft tissue injuries.
20:14And he's really worked on that. And he's like has all the medical advancements and he seems to be taking it very seriously.
20:21And right now he's been like the RB1 or RB2 and drills, depending on if Josh Jacobs is in court or if he's on the practice field.
20:29Right now, the Josh Jacobs situation is that the district attorney's office is still investigating if they want to bring charges on.
20:35Right now, Josh Jacobs is fine to be out there for now.
20:38But at any point, new evidence can come out and then the commissioner's exemplist could be waiting for Josh Jacobs.
20:44Like the upside for like how long the Josh Jacobs suspension or commissioner's exemplist is like typically around six games for domestic violence related issues.
20:51So I think just that alone makes Marshawn Lloyd more interesting than other backs just because there's some odds that he's going
20:58to be a starter, not because of injury, but because of off field issues.
21:02And I don't think that Chris Brooks is a real running back.
21:05He's like an RB3 kind of hybrid player. They want Marshawn Lloyd to be the RB2.
21:10And Josh Jacobs is a little bit older. He fights really hard as well.
21:14He can take a big hit and miss some time here.
21:17So Marshawn Lloyd's being priced as if he's not going to play this year, his injury risk is a little bit higher
21:23than other players, but he's healthy today. So I don't think that is like real injury risk moving forward is like that much higher than any other back.
21:31Chris Brooks is more of like a fullback hybrid player for them was a lead blocker for Josh Jacobs a lot of last season.
21:38And maybe they would pivot over in that direction.
21:41But like Emmanuel Wilson was more of their secondary rusher over the past couple of seasons.
21:46And this Marshawn Lloyd ADP chart just shows you how like news can impact things.
21:50Like he climbs when they didn't draft anyone or add anyone in the second wave of free agency.
21:55Then OTAs hit. And I believe he wasn't out there for like the vast majority of OTAs and then did return like
22:01the final practice or close to it. And then it shows you that like, hey, we can steadily go back up after that.
22:08I've read the same exact thing that you did where you went to California.
22:12Dr. John Mayer. Yep. Shout out John Mayer. Found that he was overcompensating at his ankle and hip due to the torn ACL back in 2020.
22:20And then he had less quad strength because of it.
22:22Look, I mean, it wasn't these exact same extremities, but Christian Watson went through this somewhat similar process to figure out, hey,
22:29why am I getting all of these injuries? And then we saw that like totally fix itself this past season and how he emerged as a player.
22:37So I did not love Marshawn Lloyd as a talent out of USC.
22:40I know a lot of people did even South Carolina on top of that, too.
22:45But if you're a believer like this is the pathway, the clearest one for him to like be the number two runner.
22:51I will say Marshawn Lloyd caught a bunch of passes in college and has the size to handle the rock.
22:57So I do we can argue about how talented he actually is and his vision and trustworthiness fully understand that.
23:02But for fantasy gobbling up touches like he can catch the ball and he has a size for the goal line role.
23:09So like I'm kind of rounding up to to the high set there.
23:13He was a third round pick for the Packers 88 overall.
23:16We've been very excited about third round fantasy running backs going into year three.
23:20So hopefully he just stays on the football field.
23:22But I do think if we're talking about this on Labor Day and he's still out there, I think that he should go right next to Tank Bigsby.
23:30And those guys are one of the best handcuffs in fantasy.
23:34Let's close with Jordan Mason. 11th round over an underdog 13th round on Yahoo.
23:38He is being selected six picks, eight picks after his running mate and Aaron Jones.
23:42We recently talked about this backfield because it's the cheapest one in drafts.
23:46Like no starting running back goes later in your drafts than Aaron Jones or Jordan Mason.
23:50I think we have a sizable update on that conversation, though.
23:53This is from Matthew Collar. Quote, Jordan Mason is going to be the Vikings running back one.
23:58Aaron Jones already showed signs of slowing down last season.
24:01So the Vikings will be careful to limit his touches this season.
24:05Collar went through more and more of this saying, obviously, the bulk of the passing situations will go to Aaron Jones.
24:11Maybe even your boy, Xavier Scott, who is a former wide receiver on top of that.
24:15But Jordan Mason, the early down work, he is going to be the grinder of this group.
24:20And there is like such a different, you know, dynamic and environment of being the early down non pass catching back player.
24:27On an offense that finishes with the 26 most points like they did last year.
24:31And then an offense that scores, you know, top 10 in points, which, by the way, Kevin O'Connell has done in the
24:37two healthy seasons that he's had a healthy quarterback.
24:40So that is a pathway for here. Like Aaron Jones fell off a cliff last year on 150 touches.
24:45His underlying metrics were extremely poor. Meanwhile, Jordan Mason's still average, you know, the 12th most yards per carry, the 10th most yards after contact per rush.
24:53And I see like there's a possibility where we get like a thousand yards and 10 touchdowns of Jordan Mason just for
24:59being this style of a runner on an offense that people are just underrating heading into the season.
25:05There's four games without Aaron Jones last year, weeks three through seven.
25:08The Vikings offense was like not cooking during that stretch.
25:11He was the RB 16 on RB 24 usage and half PPR.
25:14I like him definitely in that format more than in full PPR, but I ranked him ahead of Aaron Jones before this report.
25:21I'm like going to completely double down on that.
25:24I think this is like the easiest pathway of like new era Vikings, Aaron Jones.
25:28You're in the Alvin Kamara role now, and we got a, we're taking chances on a cheap running back in Jordan Mason.
25:34I think that Jordan Mason runs really hard. I think he's kind of, he's definitely limited in some ways, but can he be the goal line back?
25:42And like you said, just like kind of goal line plunge into eight touchdowns this year, that would be enough for him
25:48to be a flex play in half PPR. So I view him like that in fantasy, kind of in that Chris Rodriguez, Bill Krosky merit bucket for me.
25:56I mean, again, there's a cap ceiling just because he doesn't catch passes.
26:00I think he's only caught like nine during his NFL career so far or something crazy like that.
26:05But whenever you look at the underlying numbers, he's already always one of like the most effective runners out there.
26:11And then the Vikings are apparently leaning more and more into outside zone, which will play into Jordan Mason's strengths on top of this.
26:18The other part of this is the Vikings offensive line pairing.
26:21Like the one that was most commonly out there only played together for 25% of snaps last season.
26:26So if we get some really nice injury luck with Christian Derisaw and like their late round centers that they're now going to play at that spot.
26:34Obviously, second year among the interior players for like Will Fries in the system and their left guard.
26:39Like if we just get a group that plays there for 70% of snaps, not only is the offense going to get
26:46better and score more points, but the running game on top of this is going to score more points too.
26:51You have to squint because of those injuries and like young players, but like the Vikings offensive line that could legitimately be very, very good.
26:59Like we got a first rounder, a young first rounder to involve.
27:02So yeah, I think there's a pathway here. This could be like, you know, the Jamal Williams season from many years ago
27:08where Jordan Mason is just gobbling up a bunch of goal line touchdowns.
27:12That would be a lot of fun. I guess like you can possibly squint that he can be like a Javante Williams type of outcome here.
27:20I think that'd be at the very high end of this, but I'm kind of over the Aaron Jones experiment.
27:25He was one of the fades for me and I felt pretty good after writing him up.
27:30I really think we have seen the cliff for Aaron Jones.
27:33And I think the team knows that based on him coming back on a much smaller contract than the one that he played on previously.
27:41Yeah. I mean, KOC wants to throw when they get to the red zone.
27:45Like this just seems like something that they've been very effective with.
27:48We've also seen Kyler Murray struggle throwing in the red zone.
27:51So maybe they've leaned a bit more than he has in the past into the running game.
27:56I know many of you, and by the way, leave your favorite late round running back sleepers.
28:01They have to be into the 10th round, 120 plus and ADP on some platform out there in the comments down below.
28:07I think a lot of people are going to say Keaton Mitchell.
28:11Hayden, we'll talk about this again in a couple of weeks when I'm back from vacation.
28:16The more the summer goes on, the more I really want to draft Amari and Hampton, even if like I don't absolutely
28:22love everything about his profile and individual talent. I just think he's going to be given such a long runway that he
28:28literally has to fall on his face or get injured for this not to happen.
28:33Yeah. I mean, they dropped him in the first round.
28:35They're definitely rooting for Amari and Hampton to be really good.
28:39Such an awesome system. Great system for him. Keaton Mitchell, also great system for him.
28:43And obviously the big quote was that Mike McDaniel hung wanted posters around the GM's office, wanting Keaton Mitchell and then the fullback that they signed as well.
28:51I think there's a reason for that. I think the hard part with Keaton Mitchell is let's say Hampton misses half the season.
28:58Like, is it actually going to be Keaton Mitchell getting 15 touches or is it going to be like still like, you
29:04know, 10 to 12 and here comes Kamani Vidal?
29:06So I think that like Keaton Mitchell's, I think better in best ball because it's going to be impossible to predict when
29:13he's going to have his 50 yard touchdown. I'll give you guys five of them this year, but I'm on the other games.
29:19I just don't see that it's going to be very hard to predict.
29:23So I actually like him a lot more in the best ball format than in redraft because it just feels like it's
29:30going to be very complicated to like nail when he's actually going to hit a home run.
29:34Yeah. Don't get me wrong. A handful of years ago when the Dolphins had what the number two scoring offense in the
29:41NFL, we got two top five scoring seasons. Yes.
29:43Keaton Mitchell and Raheem Mostert and also what the number one scoring wide receiver and Tyree kill on top of it.
29:49So, hey, now you go from Tua doing that to now Justin Herbert doing that.
29:54So that's always a potential outcome here to hate.
29:56Yeah. I think Keaton Mitchell should be. We should count him as one of our sleepers here.
30:01Let's round up. Keaton Mitchell definitely qualifies. He should be drafted in every format just because we have to see what happens in week one.
30:08There's going to be a lot of optimism coming out of training camp because, you know, the Chargers coaching staff loves to speak and hype up their players.
30:16So we're going to see a lot of positive buzz.
30:19This ADP is only going to get higher. I'm not even hating on it at all.
30:24I just think that he's one of the best, like kind of like this middle ground between.
30:29He's not a pure handcuff because I think Vidal is going to play.
30:33But I do think he actually has a chance to like having some flex appeal.
30:37It's just going to be impossible to know, like when that flex appeal is going to show itself.
30:42That's why I like him in the best ball.
30:45Yeah, I guess my opening remark about Amar and Hampton is I want to be optimistic about both these players.
30:50Like I don't want to really say anything negative about either just because, again, the environment that they're in is just going to lend itself to fancy points.
30:59And when we get to these conversations over summers, it's, well, you can only pick one side of Amar and Hampton or Keaton Mitchell.
31:05Whereas I kind of really like where both of them are being selected right now.
31:10Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Justin Herbert with McDonald.
31:12This could be a lot of fun. A lot of fun.
31:16All right. That's going to do it. Leave your favorites in the comments down below.
