McConkey's experience with Keenan Allen in Los Angeles provides context for Josh Downs's situation with Allen joining the Colts. Allen torpedoed McConkey's fantasy stock last year, but not by taking him off the field; McConkey's route rate marginally increased to 90 percent and his aDOT barely moved. McConkey earned targets at a lower per-route rate and was much less efficient, though the Chargers' season-long offensive spiral was likely the larger culprit.

After breaking out for 82-1,149-7 as a rookie, McConkey's second pro season was far more disappointing with 66 catches for 789 yards and six touchdowns despite playing in 16 games, as his catchable target rate took a massive hit from 87 percent in 2024 to 73 percent last year. Despite only seeing five fewer targets, the drop in catchable pass rate explains the massive production decline. With Mike McDaniel now calling the plays, McConkey is expected to produce big things after last year's disappointing outing.

Denny Carter ranks McConkey WR12 and is all in on him as a WR1 you can draft as your WR2. McConkey was top ten in yards per route run as a rookie and gets a massive upgrade in offensive play-caller this season after former OC Greg Roman used him in all the wrong ways. McConkey has been highly efficient on pass routes that feature prominently in Mike McDaniel's offense, including crossers and posts. Running cold last year with one of the NFL's lowest catchable target rates, a bounce back is in the works.
