Alec Pierce

PositiveBust30:57

RotoPat is avoiding Alec Pierce, arguing that his 2023 season was a career year and that he has never caught more than 50 passes. He notes that Pierce's role as a deep-threat specialist is valuable in real life but lacks the consistent target volume needed for fantasy success.

Insight page
NegativeUsage37:05

Matthew Berry notes Alec Pierce is not a high-volume target earner, projecting him for 5-6 targets per game rather than 8-10. While Pierce is a consensus top-40 wide receiver, Berry advises drafters not to get cute, as Pierce will have weeks with low reception totals but possesses the big-play ability to win weeks with high yardage and touchdowns.

Insight page

Bijan Robinson

PositiveValue10:10

RotoPat considers Bijan Robinson a mandatory selection if he falls to the 1.02 spot in a superflex draft, noting it is a drafter's duty to take him there.

Insight page

Bucky Irving

NegativeUsage20:25

Matthew Berry notes that preseason usage suggests the Buccaneers do not intend to involve Bucky Irving in the passing game, which creates a challenge for his fantasy value.

Insight page

Isaiah Likely

PositiveBreakout50:14

Matthew Berry and RotoPat identify Isaiah Likely as a prime breakout candidate for the Giants. Following his signing in free agency and positive reports from beat writers, he is positioned to be the team's second-best pass catcher behind Malik Neighbors. He has historically produced whenever given a featured role.

Insight page

Jameson Williams

PositiveBreakout67:12

Matthew Berry is overweight on Jameson Williams, ranking him inside his top 24 wide receivers. Despite never reaching a 20% target share, Williams showed high-end weekly upside with seven top-12 finishes last season. Berry believes Williams was previously overrated, leading to him becoming underrated, and notes that his floor is higher than typical deep-threat receivers, as he rarely records zero-catch games.

Insight page

Jaylen Waddle

PositiveProjection61:50

Matthew Berry ranks Jaylen Waddle at 18th among wide receivers (37 overall), higher than his 21st-rank consensus ADP (47 overall). Berry highlights Waddle's efficiency and role as the focal point of the Broncos' offense, noting that Sean Payton's scheme aims to utilize Waddle's yards-after-catch ability and versatility across the field.

Insight page

Jonathon Brooks

NegativeProjection17:14

RotoPat acknowledges Jonathan Brooks has the highest overall ceiling among available running backs in his draft range, but expresses concern over his shaky preseason performances.

Insight page

Justin Herbert

PositiveProjection10:45

RotoPat views Justin Herbert as a legitimate top-seven or top-eight quarterback, expressing satisfaction with securing him in the second round of a superflex draft.

Insight page

Kenneth Gainwell

PositiveUsage17:32

Matthew Berry and RotoPat agree that Kenneth Gainwell is a strong target due to his $14 million contract, which signals a high-value commitment. Berry notes his Buccaneers team source confirms Gainwell is being used between the tackles and is not just a pass-catching back.

Insight page

Kenyon Sadiq

PositiveInjury39:00

Matthew Berry reports the Jets will scale back rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq's role early in the season due to missed time, making him undraftable in redraft leagues. However, Berry suggests a potential buy-low opportunity in Dynasty formats, viewing his rookie year as a 'tax write-off' year similar to Trevor Lawrence's debut under Urban Meyer.

Insight page

Quentin Johnston

NegativeRole47:30

Matthew Berry views Johnston as a real-life role player who is doomed to max out as a WR4 in fantasy. Despite being a first-round talent, he lacks easy targets in the current scheme and carries a zero-floor risk, making him difficult to trust despite his big-play potential.

Insight page
PositiveBreakout48:46

RotoPat argues that Johnston is being undervalued by the fantasy community due to his early-career struggles with drops. He notes that Johnston is one of only five wide receivers with at least eight receiving touchdowns over the past two seasons and has seen his yards per target increase annually, suggesting he could be the clear WR2 in a high-powered Chargers offense.

Insight page

Quinshon Judkins

PositiveValue52:18

Matthew Berry and Roto Pat view Quinshon Judkins as a solid back-end RB2, ranking him at RB22. Despite the Browns' potentially poor offensive environment, they argue the team will be forced to run the ball regardless of game flow. Judkins is expected to handle goal-line duties, and his ADP is seen as reasonable given his pure running talent and the lack of check-down options in the current Browns passing attack.

Insight page

Rome Odunze

PositiveValue45:05

Matthew Berry notes that while Odunze's rookie season was disappointing, he was WR11 on a points-per-game basis during weeks 1-8 when fully healthy, maintaining a 25% target share. With the Bears offense expected to be high-scoring under Caleb Williams, his current ADP as WR27 (7th round) is fair, making him a solid flyer with potential for spike weeks.

Insight page
NegativeProjection73:55

Matthew Berry discusses Rome Odunze, noting his high pedigree as a top-10 pick and his significant usage in the end zone, with 27 end zone targets over his last 29 games. While acknowledging the departure of DJ Moore, Berry expresses uncertainty regarding Odunze's immediate breakout potential, noting that elite players typically produce earlier in their careers.

Insight page

Trey Palmer

PositiveDepth Chart21:55

Matthew Berry reports from a Buccaneers team source that Trey Palmer is having an unbelievable camp and is competing for the WR3 role opposite Chris Godwin and Mike Evans in three-receiver sets.

0:00Well, it is live. It's noon on YouTube. We're live.
0:03But of course, it's five o'clock somewhere. So drinks up.
0:07Not only are we drinking to fantasy football season, not only are we drinking to the fact that tomorrow, my friends, tomorrow is love-hate day.
0:15My preseason love-hate drops tomorrow on fantasylife.com. Tomorrow is love-hate day.
0:19But we're also drinking to my friend RotoPat. That's right, my old buddy from NBC Sports, the star of the RotoWorld Football Show.
0:26Everyone knows that. Denny and Dvorak just along for the ride.
0:30It's all about RotoPat on the RotoWorld Football Show.
0:33Hello, my friend. How are you? Hello, yeah. Denny and Kyle, my session musicians.
0:38In honor of the five o'clock somewhere mentality, in honor of the late, great Jimmy Buffett, who I know you loved, I'm
0:45wearing my finest Tommy Bahama shirt today. Let's go.
0:48I am wearing RotoPat, and you'll appreciate this more than most of my guests.
0:53And what's coming up today, we've got a couple of news items that we want to get to.
0:59We've got a couple of draft strategy things we want to talk to.
1:03And, of course, those mid-round upside guys that you want to talk about.
1:08So it's a really good show coming up here.
1:11But the other reason we're drinking, not only, RotoPat, to your success, your health, not only to the fact that tomorrow is
1:18love-hate day, but also because my kid, Connor, who is a senior at Alabama, Roll Tide, it is his birthday today.
1:25So to my son, Connor, who I love dearly, happy birthday, Connor.
1:29I hope you have many, many beverages and call a cab service as well.
1:34Yeah, it says, you know, Greg Lau, 100, Bama shirt, Roll Damn Tide.
1:38That's right. Roll Tide Roll. And the reason I say this, that I think RotoPat, more than most of my guests, can relate.
1:46You know, I have five kids. I have five kids.
1:49And most people are like, whoa, five kids. Dude, what are you doing over there?
1:54But RotoPat is somebody that appreciates that. Don't you, RotoPat?
1:57I do. Five of my own. Speaking of kids' birthdays, when you have five, like every other day it is someone's birthday.
2:05It gets really, really difficult. It's like, I love cake, but like, wow, we just had the cake.
2:11Everyone's always competing, like, who's got the next birthday?
2:14Who's got the closest birthday? I love all my kids.
2:17It's a little difficult to keep track, though. I thought when you said that, instead of, I thought what you were going
2:25to say is instead of, I love cake, but we just had cake.
2:29I thought you were going to say, listen, I love kids, but we just had a kid, honey.
2:35Yeah, no more kid talk. Like, I can't deal with it anymore.
2:39Yeah, can we figure out something else to do than, you know, that?
2:43Everyone tells me, you know, Pat, there are ways you can fix that.
2:48Yeah. What can we say, RotoPat, but your boys can swim.
2:51Everyone knows that, you know? Not only are you the star of the RotoWorld football show, but your boys can swim.
2:58You're very fertile. Are you the most fertile fantasy football analyst out there?
3:03Because I think you are. Because while I have five kids, as people know, my wife and I, it's a blended family.
3:10It's a second marriage for both of us. We've been together for 20 years, my wife and I have.
3:16But, you know, it is, both of us got married young, and so it's a blended family.
3:22But you, you and your wife, it's your only marriage, as I understand it.
3:27It's your first marriage. So, you know, I think you are the most fertile fantasy football analyst in the industry, RotoPat.
3:34I give you that title. Well, when you're descended from German farmers, you're, like, biologically attuned to, you're supposed to have, like, eight or nine kids.
3:43So we're actually undershooting what we're supposed to have with only five.
3:47But we try to do our best. Yeah, do me a favor right now.
3:51Say, we got about 48, the furtier, the furtler, says, sweep the leg, the furtler.
3:56RotoPat, as you can imagine, the regulars are on fire today, especially given that you are back here.
4:02You're one of us. You know, loved working with you for four years at NBC.
4:07You've been a friend for a lot longer, but we had a lot of good fun at NBC, and I appreciate you doing this.
4:15But just do me a favor, as you mentioned, you know, you guys are short eight or nine.
4:21Do me a favor, just yell off screen, like, honey, I got about 45 minutes left.
4:27Get ready. Put something on. I'm coming in there.
4:30We're going to have a, we're going to see if we can increase the squad size.
4:35Oh, dear. Just, you know, trying to, you know, we're going to go back to our German farming roots.
4:41All right. So listen, RotoPat, you are the defending champion of the League of Assholes.
4:46I know people were asking about, is there going to be, is that continuing?
4:51And the answer is yes. We're in the middle of that draft.
4:55You are the defending champion. Of course, I am a two-time champion of the League of Assholes.
5:01And last year made what I thought was the most, you know, did I miss the playoff?
5:07Sure, on a tiebreaker. But, you know, the strongest finish of the season anyone had, seven in a row.
5:13Anyway, you and I are in the middle of a draft.
5:17I'm actually up right now. Wow. But it's a super flex league.
5:21What pick did you have? And we're going to sort of talk about it.
5:25So here's your team right here, as you see.
5:28Super flex league. Take me through your team a little bit.
5:32What pick did you have? And let's just sort of talk about your strategy as a defending champion of this 12-team super flex league with standard scoring otherwise.
5:41So first off, in our guillotine league, you had the first pick.
5:45I had the 16th. There was some light ribbing about it maybe being rigged.
5:50How I know it was not rigged is last year in the League of Assholes, I had the number one overall pick.
5:57I believe I took Josh Allen. This year, I had the number two overall pick.
6:02So clearly not being rigged. Clearly, I did not go quarterback this year, which leaves me feeling a little queasy in a super flex.
6:10But I think even in a super flex, if you get one or two, you have to take Bajon or Gibbs.
6:17Whoever falls to you, this is kind of your duty to do it.
6:22I took a Bajon Robinson, felt really good about it.
6:25But then it's so long, the wait, when you're on the one or two turn.
6:30And a super flex especially. You start seeing the quarterbacks come off the board.
6:35You get nervous. But it worked out pretty well for me.
6:39So I got Bajon. Then I did – I got – I forget who my second pick here was.
6:45Justin Herbert, I believe. Yeah. In the second round, which I didn't love necessarily, but I was still happy for that.
6:52Like in the 25 to 26 overall range. So even at a super flex, though, I didn't overthink it at number two.
6:59I took Bajon. I still got Herbert, who I think is a legit top seven or eight quarterback.
7:05I was very happy with my start to the League of Assholes, whatever you have to say, 7.0, 8.0.
7:12Yeah. AJ Brown, by the way, my number one receiver, I didn't like that as much.
7:17I'll say that. See, no, I really – I don't love Trayvon as your number two.
7:22But I think, you know, I think – I think Abuka, especially after a Bajon, you know, getting Bajon and Herbert and Goff, I think you're totally fine.
7:32But I think the important part here is that if ever there was a year – every super flex league, you mostly see quarterbacks.
7:40It's quarterback, quarterback. Or you see a lot of the quarterbacks fly off the board.
7:45But, you know, our own friend Lawrence Jackson, Lord, don't lose, last year absolutely crushed us in the league.
7:51He went, I think, Jonathan Taylor – did he have Bajon last year?
7:55I know he had Jonathan Taylor and James Cook.
7:58And he had a third running back as well.
8:02I forget. But he had like three unbelievable running backs in our league last year.
8:07And he just mowed through us throughout the entire season.
8:10And I think especially, A, that kind of all shook us a little bit.
8:15But beyond that, just the fact that quarterback is so insanely deep this year that you can truly wait on a quarterback.
8:22So that's who you have. Here's my team. I'm – look, you will clearly – tomorrow is love-hate day.
8:28And a lot of these names you will see.
8:31You will see tomorrow. You know, you will see tomorrow.
8:35So obviously – I'm going to pull it up on my app right now because I'm actually on the clock.
8:41I've got it if you want me to read it to you.
8:45Okay. Yeah, well, I was just going to say my – in order of my pick.
8:51So I picked in the nine hole. And so my first round pick was Drake May.
8:56But then I went Ken Walker, ride or die Devontae Smith, Colston Loveland, runner-up to ride or die.
9:02Kyron Williams, who I have. You've got Brock Purdy, Mike Evans, Christian Watson.
9:06And now I'm up. And so I can talk about this with you because people – I will pick again before you pick again.
9:14So I'm thinking about at running back, I have a choice between – among the players that are available right now that
9:22I like in this spot right here. Kenny Gainwell, Jonathan Brooks, you know, are the two guys.
9:28And I want to go running back here because there's a few wide receivers that are right now that are available that I really like.
9:36And so that will come back around. Matthew Golden's there.
9:39I already have Christian Watson, so I'm not going to double up there.
9:44But there's other wide receivers in this range that I think there's going to be, you know, six picks between now.
9:51I'm at nine, so there'll be – after I pick, there'll be six picks.
9:55And I think one of the wide receivers that I really like will still be there when it's my turn, I hope.
10:03So there's a number of them there that I like.
10:06So I'm going to go running back here. And it's weird to ask you since we're in a league together, but who
10:13would you – do you – who do you like more between Kenneth Gainwell, Ja'Cory Krosky-Meritt, and Jonathan Brooks?
10:20All of whom I have right in the same range.
10:23And it's going to be one of those three guys.
10:26It's kind of – they all are a little something different.
10:30Ja'Cory, I feel like, is the touchdown floor, at least hopefully.
10:34Jonathan Brooks, we know, is just kind of the overall ceiling.
10:37Kenneth Gainwell, though, I think is maybe the best mixture of those two.
10:42I went Kyle Minungai my last time around. I was strongly considering Kenneth Gainwell.
10:46The bullet point I can't really get over with Kenneth Gainwell, maybe it's kind of a silly one.
10:52$14 million for Kenneth Gainwell. Like, that signals an extremely strong commitment.
10:57He's just a high-value touch guy. I love Jonathan Brooks.
11:00I would love him more if he had been doing anything in the preseason.
11:05Two kind of shaky preseason performances. They seem so committed to him, the way they're talking him up.
11:11Kenneth Gainwell kind of feels like the most sensible overall pick there to me, Matthew.
11:16Well, Roto Pat, there's a reason why you're the defending champion, not only of the League of Assholes, but also the two-time
11:23defending champion of our guillotine league that we're doing.
11:26And we're in the middle of the draft of that as well.
11:30All of our NBC, me and all my NBC friends, past and present, doing the guillotine league.
11:36So we're doing all that. So you're absolutely right.
11:39I took Kenneth Gainwell. A couple of reasons why here.
11:42And actually, I mean, in my rankings, I don't mean, they're all right there bunched together.
11:47But I agree with you. I think that there is the easiest path for Kenneth Gainwell to have consistent fantasy success.
11:54With Jucori Kroski-Meritt, what's this offensive line look like, especially with Tunsil?
11:58Is he going to catch passes or is that going to be Rashad White and Jeremy McNichols?
12:04Do they, you know, do they, is his, how big is his potential touchdown equity?
12:09Because again, they might do keepers with Jaden Daniels or sort of mix it up there.
12:14They might use Rashad White at the goal line.
12:17I don't know. I don't love the Panthers offense.
12:20I don't think Chuba Hubbard goes away. I will tell you that you're right.
12:25Not only did Kenneth Gainwell get paid, but you just sort of think about Bucky Irving, who so far we, you know, we had Dwayne McFarlane on earlier.
12:35And we were talking about sort of the preseason usage.
12:38And it just doesn't seem like they want to use Bucky Irving in the passing game.
12:43And if Bucky Irving doesn't, isn't used in the, if Bucky Irving doesn't get involved in the passing game, I think there's a challenge there.
12:52Injury issues, you know, as DM Gazooz says, Kenneth Ketchwell as well.
12:56He's not only Kenneth Gainwell, but he's also Kenneth Ketchwell.
12:59And I will tell you, I have a really good Buccaneers source.
13:03I have a really good Buccaneers team source that I talked with a couple of weeks ago and I was asking how it was going in practice.
13:12And I got two nuggets from my Buccaneers team source.
13:15Really good one. Number one is Ted Hurst is having an unbelievable camp.
13:20Having an unbelievable camp. And so I think there's a chance that before not too long, like he's playing, he's the number
13:27three wide receiver after, you know, Abuka and Godwin.
13:30He's opposite Abuka on the outside there in three wide receiver sets.
13:34And the other one was that Kenneth Gainwell is the real deal, that it's not just a pass catching back, but they've been using him between the tackles.
13:43They're not scared to run him. Like even though he is a smaller sized running back, we saw this in Pittsburgh last year as well.
13:52Like he's not scared to go between the tackles.
13:55He's not scared to do all the things a running back can do.
13:59And so I just think there's, and I like the Buccaneers offense.
14:03Like I feel better about the Buccaneers offense overall than I do the Panthers or even my Commanders.
14:09I think my Commanders will be a good offense, but I don't know.
14:14Like I feel, I feel pissed off Baker Mayfield goes scorched earth.
14:18And so I also, and this is something that's probably unique to me and you and not necessarily everyone watching.
14:24And we'll move off Gainwell here in a second.
14:27But you and I both do that, you know, that you and I both do so many drafts, Roto-Pat, that sometimes we do so many drafts.
14:36We're always in a group chat together. Always in a group chat.
14:40Well, you and I do so many drafts together.
14:43Just you and I, we do mock drafts. But beyond that, I mean, you and I are both in so many leagues,
14:50friends league, industry leagues, business leagues, et cetera, et cetera.
14:54I have two different leagues. I mean, I'm in the middle of like six different slow drafts right now.
15:00I have two drafts tonight. Like it, and, but I just don't have a ton of Kenneth Gainwell exposure.
15:06No. This year. And sometimes you're just like, you know what?
15:10I just, I like the player, the way drafts have fallen.
15:14I just don't have a lot of him this year.
15:17So you know what? Give me some Kenneth Gainwell.
15:20Matthew, I think that speaks to Kenneth Gainwell is really not ever a player you're looking to draft because there's always someone
15:28who's going to have more theoretical upside. In this case, it was Jonathan Brooks.
15:32Just seems like a guy to me that you might, maybe didn't want to draft him.
15:38But then October, you're like, you're like, I'm sure glad, like I got boxed in to drafting Kenneth Gainwell.
15:44My final word on Kenneth Gainwell too. It's kind of like how, one thing I always said about Taysom Hill, however old,
15:51however old you think he is at two to three years.
15:55Kenneth Gainwell, it's like however many passes you think he caught last year at 10 to 20, like 73 receptions.
16:02It just absolutely blew the doors off for Kenneth Gainwell.
16:05And it's not a sexy pick. I think it's a pick that fantasy managers are going to be really happy they made after the fact though.
16:14Completely agree, Roto Pat. Let's talk about a couple of news items here as Dr.
16:19Dr. What is it? Dr. DeMario said that he, you know, he likes my nugs.
16:24Appreciate that doctor, which is, I believe his given name.
16:27If you're anything like me and my family, there's just nothing worse than opening up the fridge and realizing it's empty.
16:34Being like, oh man, I forgot to thaw meat or I got to go to the grocery store and deal with all that, which is a disaster.
16:43So here's the fix. Keeping Omaha steaks in the freezer.
16:47It's been a lifesaver for us. Genuinely feels like having your own gourmet butcher on standby.
16:52Now look, you guys know Omaha steaks, right? They've spent over a century perfecting their process.
16:57They age the beef meticulously. They vacuum seal each portion and then they ship it frozen directly to your door.
17:04Recently, me and my family seared up their pure ground brisket burgers, the rich flavor and melt in your mouth texture blew
17:11standard grocery meat completely out of the water. I got to tell you, from the tender steaks and chicken to gourmet sides
17:19and desserts, having quality protein ready in minutes is a lifesaver for me and my family.
17:24If you want to experience the difference, check out the Burger Perfection Flight.

17:49Terms apply. See site for details. Alec Pierce is expected to return to practice this week.
17:55There we go. Dr. Deoxide. Sorry, got to love Barry's Nug.
17:58Sorry, I forgot your last name there, Dr. Deoxide.
18:01Anyway, so just curious where you are on Alec Pierce.
18:05I have him lower than consensus ADP because I kind of wanted to see him as we see the tweet here from Stephen Holder who covers the Colts.
18:14Good news. Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce expected to return to practice this week if all goes to plan according to hood coach Shane Steichen.
18:23So, you know, I am lower than consensus because I kind of want to see it here.
18:28But assuming Pierce does return to practice and he looks like Alec Pierce, I'll move him up.
18:34This is somebody who led the NFL in yards for reception each of the last two seasons.
18:40We talked about him a lot on this show.
18:43My man, Jay Croucher, a Colts man through and through at least for the last eight games, loves him some Alec Pierce.
18:50Where are you on Mr. Pierce this season? So Pierce, I just use money as a data point for Kenneth Gainwell.
18:57I should maybe do the same thing for Alec Pierce, but Alec Pierce, I just keep coming back to it's going to be his age 26 season.
19:06He has never caught more than 50 passes in a season and he plays such a valuable real life role for the Colts.
19:14The kind of like downfield dominator role, like barely even exists in the modern NFL, like a really throwback role to average over 20 yards for catch.
19:23And just to have that be the focal point of how he used, they don't do the underneath stuff.
19:29I think they paid him so much money that they might try to expand his route tree, his repertoire.
19:35But then he just missed all of August. Like, how are they going to install that?
19:41And I just think we probably witnessed a career year for Alec Pierce last year.
19:46It seems like a classic pick where I guess you could hit on 17 and maybe you get another step forward for this guy this season.
19:55But I'm letting other people take Alec Pierce. I know when you play best ball, you don't have that luxury.
20:01You kind of get some of everyone, but the leagues I'm managing, I'm just letting someone else take Alec Pierce.
20:08I think that was an obvious career year. I think it will look even more obvious in hindsight.
20:14And as much as I respect the role and I wish this role would make a comeback in the NFL.
20:21It's a fun role. Guys doing damage down the field.
20:24It's really fun to watch. I just don't think the fancy points are going to be there.
20:30Steering clear of Alec Pierce this year. It's just interesting.
20:33I don't know that I'm steering clear of him, but I don't know that I'm actively going out of my way to
20:40get him because to your point, the key to Alec Pierce being a consistent fantasy starter is that he expands the route
20:48tree because there's going to be spike weeks. We absolutely know that.
20:52But last year in his breakout year, he still had an 18% target share, right?
20:57He was averaging under six targets a game. His target share was 51st among wide receivers last year as J.
21:03Ram Forrest has pierced the veil. I like that.
21:07So this is a guy that's never averaged more than three receptions per game in a season.
21:12Now, top 10 rate among, in terms of team end zone targets last year, the pierce slur says aloha bricks.
21:19You know, he's a deep threat. There's going to be big spike weeks for Alec Pierce.
21:24The question is, is it going to be one of those things where you just have to sort of like, I feel
21:32like if you draft Alec Pierce this year in a non-best ball league, you sort of have to treat it best ball,
21:39which is what I mean is, is like, you have to just sort of like, you're starting Alec Pierce.
21:45You can't try to guess, oh, this is going to be an Alec Pierce week or this isn't.
21:51When you sign up for Alec Pierce, you just got to say like, I'm starting them every week and there'll be some highs and there'll be some lows.
22:01And I'm going to hope that there's more, more of the, more of the highs than the lows.
22:07But ultimately, like, you just can't guess when those things will happen.
22:11The other concern here is, is like, again, if he's, he's probably, I think the target share is right.
22:17Does he expand the route tree? A little bit more, but you've got downs.
22:22You've got Keenan Allen, who's going to get, earn some targets.
22:25Obviously Tyler Warren, they want to be run heavy with Jonathan Taylor.
22:29You know, they will take their shots with Alec Pierce, but it's not somebody that's, this is not a, this is not
22:37an eight to 10 target, a guy, a game guy.
22:40This is a, you know, five to six target, a game guy.
22:44And so, like I said, I think he's a top, his current consensus is a top 40 wide receiver.
22:51I think that's right. Um, so, uh, anyway, I think we're on the same page.
22:56You're probably a little bit lower on him than I am in terms of Alec Pierce.
23:01but it's why I'm right at market. Don't mind if I get him, but I'm not going to actively try to expand him.
23:09As Stuntman Chuck says, expand the route tree is another way for Pat to imply he's having more kids.
23:15I like that. It's fair. That's the best euphemism yet.
23:18That is the best euphemism. You hit the nail on the head.
23:22You draft Alec Pierce, don't get cute. You're not going to be able to predict it.
23:28Keep him in there every week. Be comfortable with the zeros.
23:31And then some weeks he's going to only catch two passes, but he'll win you the week because they were for 84 yards and a touchdown.
23:40So the Jets have announced that they are going to scale back Kenyon Sadiq, their rookie tight end, his role early in the season.
23:48Frank Reich talking about the injury right here as you see Zach Rosenblatt who covers the Jets.
23:54Frank Reich on having to adjust Kenyon Sadiq's role because of all the time he missed.
23:59Quote, there's no doubt we'll scale it back. We'll have to work him in slowly.
24:04To me, Roto Pat, this means Kenyon Sadiq is undraftable in redraft leagues.
24:09But I think there's potentially a buying opportunity in Dynasty for Dynasty startups that are happening or even Dynasty leagues where the
24:16rookie draft is happening between now and the start of the season.
24:20I like the opportunity here because people might be down on Sadiq Jets, bad team.
24:25Now he's going to miss a few weeks, but we like the talent quite a bit.
24:30We like the prospect. We know Frank Reich has traditionally used tight ends in his offense, but just given the fact that
24:38he's going to miss time, we don't know what this offense is going to look like under Geno.
24:44We like Garrett Wilson. We like Brees Hall. I kind of like Adonai Mitchell.
24:48I'm hearing a lot of drumbeat about Adonai Mitchell.
24:51And of course, you've got Omar Cooper there. So I just think in normal redraft leagues, Kenyon Sadiq is undraftable at the moment.
24:59We sort of keep an eye on him, see if he develops a role that would be worthy, waiver wire worthy.
25:06I have a scary amount of Adonai Mitchell, by the way.
25:10And Kenyon Sadiq, I think you laid it out perfectly again, where I think you view in dynasty leagues as rookie years,
25:17kind of one of like those tax write-off years, where Trevor Lawrence had the fake first year of his career with Urban Meyer.
25:25Ashton Gentry kind of had the fake first year with that disastrous Raiders setup last year.
25:30You just pretend like it didn't happen. And unfortunately, Geno Smith, I think could be a common denominator in that.
25:37I don't think Geno Smith and Frank Reich are saving this Jets offense, saving this Jets team.
25:43And no one's going to come out of the season looking particularly great.
25:47And Kenyon Sadiq, I just think you're going to have to pretend like it didn't happen, view it as a tax write-off,
25:54make him a buy low, and then yeah, hopefully get some great fantasy points next year.
26:00Roto Pat, you and I got together before the show.
26:03We talked about, you know, so the premise of this is seven upside, seven high upside players you shouldn't overlook.
26:10Kind of those mid-round guys. And, you know, candidly, this was a little bit of an excuse for me.
26:16The SEC man says, I always giggle when someone drafts Sadiq, with all due respect.
26:21With all due respect. Not that there's anything on with that.
26:25Fair enough, SEC man. So, these are seven mid-round, high upside players that you should target, or at least you shouldn't overlook.
26:32And, candidly, this was an excuse for me to talk about a bunch of players that we just haven't, for whatever reason,
26:39haven't talked about in this show yet. So, I wanted to get into them here.
26:44But, these are guys that I think all have tremendous upside.
26:48And, I want to start with the Giants quarterback, Jackson Dart, who had an interesting offseason.
26:53But, among the things that happened in the offseason for Jackson Dart is, he got a new head coach, a new offensive
27:01coordinator, and a couple of new toys to play with.
27:04And, Isaiah Likely, 8 billion different wide receivers. And, oh, by the way, Malik Nabors coming back.
27:10Remember, he, I think they played less than 20 snaps together.
27:14Last year, I think that's the stat, right? In terms of Dart and neighbors, in terms of when they're on the field together.
27:21So, I have, I have Dart as a, at 87 overall.
27:25His ADP is 97 overall. So, I'm slightly higher on him in the overall consensus.
27:30What say you, Rotopat, about J6? I think he's a particularly good buying opportunity.
27:35Because, he's the kind of player where his ADP would typically become a runaway freight train.
27:40He's a dual threat. We saw him already perform well.
27:43He's a dual threat. In the NFL. He gets a lot of new faces.
27:48But, for a variety of reasons, the ADP just never took off.
27:52There's kind of an air of negativity around the Giants.
27:55Because, a lot of questioning of John Harbaugh. Definitely a lot of questioning of his offensive staff.
28:01Question marks about Malik Nabors' health. We think he's going to be ready for week one, but he hasn't been cut loose yet.
28:09Cam Scadaboo having sort of an uncertain camp. There's just been an air of negativity hanging over the Giants' offense.
28:15And, Jackson Dart, whereas I think usually his ADP might have gotten irresponsibly high.
28:20He's on the QB 1-2 borderline. That's a perfect place to draft a dual threat like Jackson Dart.
28:26And, kind of all comes down to it as he run as hot as he did on the ground last year.
28:33But, I don't think the ADP got into that irresponsible range.
28:37And, he might not exceed it. But, if he stays healthy, he's going to be every week in that QB 11-15 range.
28:44I don't think he could really fall outside the top 20.
28:48Maybe he won't tap into that ceiling. The floor, I think, is really solid for Jackson Dart just because the ADP never took off.
28:56That's absolutely right. I mean, again, once he took over to the start on week number four on a points-per-game basis, he
29:03was the sixth best quarterback in fantasy football. He averaged over 40 rushing yards a game.
29:09Now, I will say two things. If you were in a league that where it's six points per touchdown pass, not the
29:16typical four, Dart is a little bit lower because so much of his value comes from the rushing.
29:22But, no one had more rush yards per game during that stretch than Jackson Dart.
29:27He averaged over 40 rushing yards per game. And, the consistency was there as well.
29:32Like, to your point about floor, obviously there's upside to Dart, but there's also a floor there.
29:38He had seven different 20-point games last year. He finished as a top-10 fantasy quarterback in eight of his 12 starts.
29:45Wow. You know, eight of 12 starts, this guy was a QB 1.
29:49And, you know, again, a top-10 guy as well.
29:52So, look, can he, you know, can he throw a little bit deeper down the field?
29:58This is a guy who had 6.7 yards per pass attempt last year.
30:02That's one of the questions. And can he stay healthy?
30:05That's always the big question with Dart. He was evaluated for a concussion five different times.
30:11He missed two games. We already saw him, you know, probably the most famous clip from this preseason was Tyrone Tracy blowing
30:18that block and just Dart getting absolutely lit up.
30:21So, I will say, as Fix It Fire says, I'm scared of Dart, you always worry the next hit will take him out.
30:29That's always the question here. But, I think to Roto Pat's point, the ADP isn't scary enough that you, that you feel
30:36like if you take Dart and he does miss some time, that it just, it tanks your team.
30:42I mean, he's, he's currently going in the 10th round.
30:45His consensus ADP on, on fantasylife.com where we track every single ADP across all the sites, his consensus ADP is 96.9.
30:52I mean, 90, so he's basically going in the 10th round.
30:56He's going as a, to your point, a QB11, QB12.
30:59So, I think the injury concern is baked into his ADP.
31:03The upside is there as Greg Lau 100 says, because the Giants O-line keep the Dartler upright.
31:09I think so. And honestly, I do, I truly believe that clip of Tyrone Tracy is one of the reasons why they
31:16signed Najee Harris who is really good in pass protection.
31:20We've talked about this. I don't think Tyrone Tracy is draftable in redraft leagues right now.
31:25And I think Harris will play, but I think that's good.
31:29And I'm, you know, we'll talk about Isaiah likely here in a little bit, but I'm more encouraged by Dart's weapons this year than he was last year.
31:38Rotopad, I want to move on to Cleveland. This is a game, again, talked about Deshaun Watson the other day, but we
31:45haven't really talked this year about Quinshon Judkins who very highly rated prospect coming out of college.
31:51Like we know the talent, you know, and then he, like there was some off the field issues and a slow start
31:58to his rookie season, but when he's been out there, he's been as good as advertised and now he gets into a
32:06Todd Munkin offense that we just saw what happened with Derrick Henry.
32:10And I'm not saying Quinchon Judkins is Derrick Henry, but I do think Todd Munkin wants to run to both set up
32:17the pass and B, try to prevent Deshaun Watson from throwing it that much.
32:22I mean, like Judkins is the best offensive player.
32:25He's got them running the ball and playing good defense is the Browns' best chance at winning games this year.
32:31So the Browns being such a bad offensive environment might be the best thing for Quinchon Judkins this year and the worst thing.
32:39The worst part obviously speaks for itself. Like there's just going to be a lot of three and outs in this Browns offense.
32:47But the fact that there are almost zero expectations for Deshaun Watson in the passing game, I think the Browns are going
32:54to be one of those rare offenses where the game flow might not really matter that much.
33:00They just are going to have no choice but to run the ball and they're not going to mothball their early down
33:07running back just because they're down 14-3 or 17-7 or whatever.
33:11They're just going to have no choice but to run the ball even if it's not what you would typically do in that game situation.
33:19The other problem though, Deshaun Watson of the two who are fighting for the starting quarterback job is not the check down
33:27guy Shadu or Sanders is Denny Carter reminded me the Browns defense was actually making fun of Shadu or Sanders apparently in practice at one point.
33:35All you do is check down and Deshaun Watson say for better or worse definitely for worse at this point does not check down.
33:43He's not taking nearly as many easy layups as he should.
33:47At least he hasn't traditionally done that and Judkins it's going to come down to touchdowns and he's going to be first,
33:54second, and third in line for their goal line opportunities.
33:58It's just how many times will they be at the goal line but kind of like Dart the ADP typically a guy
34:05who comes to the NFL and does that as a rookie running back, especially a day two rookie running back the ADP
34:13will be stratospheric next year but like with Dart it's baked into his ADP all the risk and he's barely going even
34:20as an RB2 and the upside isn't what you would maybe normally expect with his profile but the downside can only go
34:27so low for a guy with his pure running ability and I feel pretty good about Quinshawn Judkins as a back end RB2.
34:35I do too I'm at running back 22 I love him in like guillotine leagues where like again you're in a guillotine
34:42league which by the way go check it out at guillotineleagues.com Rotopat is our defending champion the app is awesome this year
34:50and 100% free to play and if you play in a paid league we're taking no fees this year so you can
34:57all the prize all the entry fees are in the prize pool a lot of other sites take a big cut off
35:04the top that's not happening at guillotineleagues.com we just what we do is you know everything that you enter you're playing for
35:12again in the states where it is legal to do real money gaming but either way whether you play in a free
35:19private league free public league or paid public league Judkins I really like just because I think there's a floor there I
35:26think there's a floor there as Greg Lau says if it's brown if it's a brown flush it down stop it come
35:34on now come on guys this is a family show I think there's a floor there because I agree with you they're
35:41going to have to run the ball regardless of what the score is and I think their defense is good enough that
35:49they're not going to get blown out of a lot of games again the offense may struggle but I don't think they're
35:56going to get blown out of a lot of games where they're down three scores and they've got to be like alright
36:03then we've just got to start chucking it I think they'll be in enough close games that they feel like they can
36:11continue to run the ball and Judkins very quietly over his final four games 13.5% target share not that it's massive but
36:18it's also not nothing and again that's Sanders checking down but I think we see Shadour sooner rather than later so I
36:25just think I had Andy Behrens on the other day and Andy's like you know he used the phrase as long as
36:33they're like normally bad like they're not historically bad they're just like a normal bad team and he was talking about the
36:40Dolphins but I think it applies to the Browns as well and I think the Browns are going to be a normal
36:47bad team I don't think they're going to be historically bad I'm a believer and Munkin you know I like Concepcion Fannin
36:55Boston from a talent standpoint I like Judkins I think their offensive line is fine and again I think their defense keeps
37:02them in games which I think is an important part for them let's move over to and I have it running back
37:1022 by the way which is exactly where he is consensus wise let's move over to Denver here and Jalen Waddell has
37:17always been one of the most efficient players and this is a guy that Sean Payton went out and got paid up
37:24to go get Rotopad where are you on Jalen Waddell this year?
37:28Jalen Waddell I think there's a reason he's like in this segment guys we haven't talked about that a lot I haven't
37:36drafted him a lot even though he fits the profile of someone who would get steamed a lot because he's always been
37:43efficient he's kind of an all around fantasy threat where he can both compile he is a big play threat it's kind
37:50of hard to remember that because Tyreek Hill came into Miami and like stole all that oxygen but Jalen Waddell could be
37:58a big play threat but since he's just kind of a known commodity since he's not perceived as a super explosive player
38:05since he has had the injury issues he's just a player we don't talk about a ton but the Broncos as you
38:12alluded to like they are pot committed they pay it up for this guy they want to look smart and like we
38:20were geniuses for going out and getting Jalen Waddell and paying up when other teams reports are that they're using him all
38:27over the field I think for a year or two there were signs that they like Cortland Sutton but they had been
38:35desperate for Cortland Sutton to not be a featured player you know they were always trying to take shots and other guys
38:42there were rumors it was like him and Judy were both on the block and Judy gets dealt but Sutton is still
38:49there but now a couple of years older at one point last year they tried to make Troy Franklin the number one
38:57as well I think Sutton will be a red zone threat I don't want to say a possession guy obviously because he's
39:04deep down the field but when you think about a Sean Payton offense and trying to get guys in space and yards
39:11after the catch over the last two seasons the Broncos ranked sixth in wide receiver fantasy points they're sixth and they've never
39:19had a guy as good as Jalen Waddell so you see it there on your screen I'm at 18 his ADP is
39:26wide receiver 21 I'm at 37 overall he's going at 47 overall so I'm higher than the consensus on Jalen Waddell this
39:33year like him a lot I wish I had more of him this year than I do but I think to your
39:41point it's going to be a good offense that's moving the ball and Waddell is going to be the focal point of
39:48it as Brandon Garrett says I like Waddell Bo is the question I get that but actually because of the way Waddell
39:55runs his routes he can go deep but he also can do the underneath stuff and Nux is pretty accurate with the
40:03short stuff so I think you're going to see a lot of crossing stuff a lot of motion trying to free up
40:10Waddell get him some easy touches get the ball in his hand and take advantage of yards after the catch another guy
40:18that is so good after the catch yes you're right the guy that's wearing the Bama shirt does like Jalen Waddell it's
40:25fair enough roll tide roll tide roll it's my show I'll do whatever I want it's my kid's birthday happy birthday Connor
40:32but speaking of you know wide receivers in the same LeVayne how about Jameson Williams right let's keep it going here Jameson
40:40Williams seven different weeks finishing as a top 12 wide receiver last season which is tied for fourth most of the position
40:47so we know the upside there right and over the last two years he ranks second among wide receivers in fantasy points
40:54per targets minimum 100 targets we like the Lions offense we love the schedule we love the environment the only question is
41:02it does feel like with Jameson Williams that you know we have these boom weeks and then he just completely disappears and
41:09it's just it's an Amon Ra and you know Jumeir Gibbs week as well so he's he's a really interesting one this
41:16year Roto Pat you know because he's never had a season in his career with a 20% target share like he's never
41:24gotten to an even a 20% target share on this Lions offense where do you have Jameson Williams ranked Roto Pat I've
41:31got him inside my top 24 and Jameson Williams is a guy I am overweight on for better or worse this year
41:39interesting I think Jmo is one of those players where he was so overrated he said draft himself in fantasy he's just
41:46like he told the I don't know if you saw the clip we put it on the fantasy life social channels other
41:53people did as well but he's he's making the plea to fantasy managers like hey draft me I'm I'm the best so
42:01uh sounds like you at least received that message say yeah Jmo I get uh text alerts for all of Jameson Williams's
42:08tweets on my phone so yeah I'm listening to Jmo I think he was so overrated for so long that he became
42:15underrated because we always waited for like that final piece of the puzzle Jameson Williams like the superstar piece of the puzzle
42:23that hasn't happened yet but he's got the thousand yard floor he's scored I think seven touchdowns each the past two years
42:30I think he could add more big plays to his repertoire Dan Campbell last year I think essentially took over a play
42:37call duties because he thought they were not involving Jmo enough like he was personally upset by they were not using Jmo
42:45enough and I think he's a big believer in Jameson Williams you know Drew Petsing coming over from Arizona I know he's
42:52always run his offense through the X receiver I'd be a little surprised if that continued with Jameson Williams in Detroit but
43:00it's an important spot in any offense of course but definitely in Drew Petsing's offense Kyle Dvorchik always warns us of the
43:07Sam Laporta factor he has kind of concerning splits with and without Sam Laporta I mean Laporta is banged up a lot
43:14maybe he'll miss more time this year I think Jmo just gets penalized where he didn't necessarily become the player we wanted
43:22him to be but we're ignoring the really good player that he is and kind of unlike some of the Marquez Valdez
43:29Scantling players with similar skill sets the floor the floor never really falls all the way out for Jmo he doesn't usually
43:36have a zero catch week his bad weeks are more like three catches for 40 yards usually with his profile his skill
43:44set the floor is a zero his floor isn't a zero thankfully and the ceiling is just almost as high as anyone
43:51at the receiver position on a weekly basis not a season long basis of course but for better or worse I love
43:58Jameson Williams still yeah look I have Jmo at I'm at wide receiver 25 but I have at 54 overall he's going
44:06at 60 overall so I'm slightly higher on him than the consensus ADP I'm with you as well as Wolf John says
44:13another Bama wide receiver Devante my ride or die we talked about Waddle is Barry getting something for these Bama promotion I'm
44:20not but you know roll tide roll but I will do you a favor here Wolf John we'll talk about a non
44:28Bama wide receiver and that's Roma no big deal I'm sorry he's got a Bama connection his old head coach ended up
44:35that's what I was going to say exactly and Ryan Grubbs there and the whole thing yeah so Roma Doonsay but Roma
44:43Doonsay did not play ball at Bama no but you know what it's interesting because I've talked a lot about Luther Burden
44:50this year I've talked a lot about Caleb I've talked a lot about Colston Loveland talked a lot about DeAndre Swift and
44:57I love all those guys it cost big fan of all them but let's get into and let's just do it quickly
45:05here because we're running out of time we've got about 13 minutes left in the show but where are you on Roma
45:12Doonsay who in 29 career games has 27 end zone targets almost 40% of the Bears end zone targets over the last
45:19two seasons again no DJ more and this is a guy that does have a first a top 10 overall pick pedigree
45:27to your point Rome we don't talk about relax I feel like we just don't know what to do with him he
45:34was the number one receiver last year before the foot injury he wasn't necessarily on a breakout course but he was doing
45:41better than he did his disappointing rookie season where I'm at with Roma Doonsay I guess the vote of confidence that they
45:49traded DJ Moore he has legitimate alibis for why he has not broken out or why he hasn't produced I just kind
45:56of come back to the fact a lot of times if you're going to be a truly elite player you just don't
46:04need alibis period you just find a way to produce the foot injury pretty concerning that's hard to produce through that he
46:11did play though and the guys where we end up talking about the alibis well the weeks one through eight last year
46:18he first appeared on the injury report in week nine we just don't know how injured he was down the stretch but
46:26weeks one through eight when he was fully healthy he was wide receiver 11 on a points per game basis he had
46:33a 25% target share again in 9 of the 12 games he played last year he had at least a 20% target
46:40share we like this offense we like Caleb Williams we think it's gonna be one of the higher scoring offenses in the
46:48NFL he's going as wide receiver 27 in ADP low end wide receiver three I think that's about right again the I
46:55think the uncertainty is baked into the ADP so going in the seventh round I don't mind taking a flyer on Roma
47:02Dunze in the seventh again I getting spread around but I think this offense again can Roma Dunze put up wide receiver
47:10three numbers because that's what it's costing you and so I don't know that he even needs to he's got some potential
47:17for various spike weeks but if he gives you wide receiver three production as a seventh round pick I mean again I
47:2510 minutes left here you know what I've talked a lot of Ladd McConkie and Amari and Hampton this year you have
47:32Herbert as your Chargers quarterback in the League of assholes we like this LA offense under Mike McDaniel but guy and he's
47:39kind of an old fashioned football player not quite in the Alec Pierce vein but definitely an Alec Pierce type player and
47:47he feels he's great if you're stacking chargers say maybe if have Justin Herbert in a Super Fletcher not that I focus
47:54on stacking really I'm going to send a text to the League of assholes everyone leave QJ for you you just have
48:01to be comfortable with the variants because unlike Jamison Williams I do think Quentin Johnson has a zero floor any given week
48:09he's got two touchdown upside any given week where he just he's never going to get those easy targets and even though
48:16Mike McDaniel is one of the best play callers in the NFL I don't think he's scheming up the easy targets for
48:23Quentin Johnson why would you do it for your boundary dominator your guy who can make big plays down the field I
48:31think he's doomed to remain a real life role player it's an extremely important role in real life but it's a role
48:38that maxes out as wide receiver four in fantasy I don't really see that changing for Quentin Johnston this year yeah look
48:46I'm at round ahead of consensus because I'm a believer in the McDaniel offense I'm a believer in Justin Herbert very quietly
48:53Quentin Johnson one of only five wide receivers with at least eight receiving touchdowns each of the past two seasons his yards
49:00per target have increased every single season to Alec Pierce similar to sort of big Mike Williams back in the day like
49:08he's one of those guys that like if you draft him you either have real thought that Quentin Johnson is the number
49:15two pass catcher on an above average offense from Justin Herbert you know we know McConkie it's going to run through McConkie
49:22and they'll do a bunch of stuff with Hampton and the running backs you know you're hearing reports of Keaton Mitchell going
49:30out wide and they're using him as a wide receiver some and they're doing a bunch of interesting things with Keaton Mitchell
49:37on I think because he had such a brutal start to his NFL career with all the drops and he's just had
49:44some really bad moments and some really big well televised moments that I think the fantasy community is out on him and
49:52I think you started looking at it like this is a first round talent this is a guy that was drafted in
49:59the first round of the NFL draft and sometimes it with the Chargers in an offense we like and I think he's
50:06got talent it seems like the catching has finally figured this out last one here in our final five minutes Roto Pat
50:14and I sort of hinted about it earlier when we were talking about Jackson Dart but I have heard a bunch of
50:21buzz from guys like Jordan Renan and others that cover the Giants day-to-day all the beats are saying like this guy is
50:29catching every single thing around we think this offense is going to throw after Malik neighbors here's the Giants depth chart in
50:36no particular order for pass catchers Darnell Mooney Malachi Fields Darius Slayton Odell Beckham Jr.
50:41I think as we just talked about with QJ I think there is a likely chance that Isaiah is the second best
50:48pass catcher in this Giants passing offense am I crazy no he really is just the wide receiver too I think and
50:56I can get overly obsessed with one data point last year a data point I was obsessed with was John Harbaugh in
51:03Baltimore saying he wanted Isaiah likely to be an all pro it didn't happen because he got hurt in training camp his
51:10season never took off John Harbaugh clearly never wavered in his belief they went out and signed him in the opening minutes
51:18of free agency as you said that Calvary did not come elsewhere it's a really questionable receiver depth chart behind Malik neighbors
51:25who we don't even know if he's healthy I think every sign points to Isaiah Likely being the number two pass catcher
51:32and Harbaugh loves him like you said the media has liked him in New York and he could be he's burned fantasy
51:40manager several times but every time Isaiah Likely gets a chance to be a featured player he's produced I totally agree he
51:47could be a guy show Roto Pat about follow the money and we talked about it with Alec Pierce we talked about
51:55it with Kenneth Gainwell how about Isaiah Likely John Harbaugh goes and signs whatever it is a $20 million a year deal
52:02to be the head coach of the New York Giants and one of the first things he does as new head coach
52:09of the New York Giants in charge of football operations is goes out and signs one of his former players again John
52:17Harbaugh is not coaching he's not calling the plays but the guy that is calling the plays works for John Harbaugh and
52:24so what are you doing as PJ have gone 11 scam likely I kind of like that scam likely but I just
52:31you know again the favorite I'm a big proponent this year of going tight in early like I like one of the
52:39big four I like crap as well so I guess one of the big five but in a world where I just
52:46get boxed out for whatever reason of one of those top five tight ends likely is one of my favorite guys to
52:53this year too there aren't many breakout candidates in the tight in eight to 14 range I all my friend I wish
