0:00I like gum. I chew it all the time, every day.
0:03And lately I've been trying this Underbrush from Nathan & Sons.
0:07It's remineralizing chewing gum. Basically an oral care routine in gum form.
0:10You brush in the morning and at night, but after lunch there's a big gap where most of us do nothing for our teeth.
0:18Underbrush is made for that moment. Chew it for 5-10 minutes, spit it out, move on, or keep chewing if you like the feel of it.
0:25It's made with hydroxyapatite, the same mineral your enamel is made from, as well as natural saps like mastic and spruce.
0:32So it has that firmer, really satisfying chew. To say it's all natural would be an understatement, because they make it themselves
0:39from scratch in Northern California, where the biggest, best trees are.
0:42I'm so glad I found this company when it's only a few years old, and the team is literally making, packing, and shipping gum every day.
0:50So if you want a simple daily upgrade for your teeth that tastes great, check out Underbrush.
0:55Order now at NathanAndSons.com. That is NathanAndSons.com. Try it now.
0:58Class it up with Crocs. You know back to school is coming in fast.
1:02So why wait to find your new fave footwear?
1:05Step into a local Crocs store and step into your new look.
1:09Try it. Style it. Make it yours. Because the right pair doesn't just show up.
1:13It shows off. First day fits, handled. Walk out ready for whatever's next.
1:17Visit your nearest Crocs store today. Futures now. What it do?
1:20Best ballin' for you. This is Future First Podcast, where we help you win today with a future first mindset.
1:27I'm your co-host, J-Mac, here with my co-host, Jose.
1:29What's going on, dude? What's up, J-Mac? Yeah, shout out to the Future First gang.
1:34Got an awesome episode for you guys with an awesome guest that we're very lucky to have.
1:39It's a beautiful Saturday morning here on the West Coast.
1:42A little bit later in the afternoon over there on the East Coast.
1:46Hope everybody's staying cool. You know, summer heat waves hitting across the land.
1:50But yeah, man, it's a great day to be talking fantasy football and specifically Dynasty Best Ball.
1:55So I can't wait to get into it. Yeah, let's get into it.
1:59That guest you're talking about here is Scott Connor with DD Fantasy.
2:03Scott, what's going on, man? What's up, fellas? Glad to be here.
2:06Couldn't turn down an opportunity to talk Best Ball Dynasty, which is becoming ever more popular in the Dynasty game.
2:12Seems like there's a lot more opportunities to jump in Best Ball leagues, a lot more people talking Best Ball construction.
2:19But we're still in the early stages. There's still an edge, boys.
2:22So we're going to talk about it today. Hopefully the listeners leave this episode and this series that you guys have done
2:29with an edge going out there, maybe doing a Best Ball league or two before this season kicks off.
2:35We certainly hope so. And yeah, we're going to find those edges today as we have in our previous episodes so that
2:41you guys can get into those Best Ball Dino leagues and dominate.
2:45And if you want to join a Best Ball Dino league, we got some starting up.
2:50As of today, we're going to be getting those links out there.
2:54So if you're looking to join one, we got some 12 by 11 Superflex tight end premiums.
2:59We're going to do both auction startups and snake startups.
3:02So reach out to us if you want to get into one of those.
3:06We're just going to be doing like a $20 buy-in.
3:09They're going to be 27-man rosters total. Something fun.
3:12Just get in there, get your feet wet for all you guys who are listening and want to jump into this kind
3:18of content and this kind of league. Hit us up, drop a comment, futurefirstpod at Gmail, whatever it is.

3:53So we had another Process First episode drop on our YouTube channel and podcast feeds today where we break down the 10th
4:00team in that startup where we go over each manager's process, their trades, their decisions, all of it.
4:06Check that out over there. Shout out to Fox who's been helping us with our graphics.
4:10You can follow her on X at bfoxworth07. Fox, we hope you're having fun at the Fantasy Football Convention.
4:16All right, boys. Enough with the house cleaning. Let's get into it.
4:20We're going to be talking wide receivers for the Dynasty Best Ball roster construction today.
4:24But first, as always, let's do a quick hit.
4:27What do you say, guys? Let's do it. All right.
4:30For the quick hit today, we wanted just to kind of talk about the best ball meta itself and some of the
4:37trends we're seeing here in our Dynasty Best Ball leagues.
4:40And hopefully we can kind of find a way here to have an advantage on these trends that we're seeing.
4:46So we were kind of chopping it up here before the podcast, talking high level of things we see.
4:52Scott, why don't you go ahead and lead off with kind of what you've been seeing in your leagues, man?
4:58Yeah, it's such an interesting question because when you're trying to find a big picture thing that's going on without Dynasty or
5:04out there in Dynasty Best Ball, it's as the game grows, I think more people are really starting to understand the differences
5:11between a traditional Dynasty League where you have to set a lineup or you really are going to go super heavy at
5:18a certain position because maybe there's a scoring premium that's completely out there.
5:22We've gone through the iterations of heavy tight end premium, heavy point per carry.
5:26I'm sure we've all been in a league where those just dominate everything else.
5:30And it's everybody understands it after a few years.
5:33And it's like, man, you can't get a tight end.
5:36You can't get a running back, etc. But then you go into best ball and everything resets.
5:41Everyone understands the best ball process of every roster spot matters.
5:44You don't want to take zeros. There's probably a little more of an active trade market in the gross ranges of players.
5:51You know, guys for seconds, thirds, fourths, even fab dollars, etc.
5:55But when you really get into it, you notice some leagues are super sharp.
5:59Others are very, very elementary. And so I think that the meta is really understanding where your league is at and being
6:05one of the first people to understand that. Can I go in and just apply some of my traditional best ball principles
6:12and go build my team exactly how I want?
6:15Or have I jumped in a league and I'm in a ton of leagues with people from our community and they're like
6:22basically following everything that I say to do with best ball.
6:25And so I'm up against nine other people that are essentially mini-me's.
6:28So what do I do when everything I'm trying to get done, especially after the fact?
6:33The team has been built for a year or two.
6:36And I'm trying to go use what I thought was going to be the edge by maybe getting some extra picks in the startup or whatnot.
6:44And then I go try to liquidate those or cash those in for what I want.
6:49And people understand the market. People understand the value of that archetype of player or that position in the league.
6:55And it's a lot harder to build the team the way that you want.
6:59So it's this constant, what's the market? How optimal is it?
7:03And if it's too optimal, then I almost have to go away from that to win against seven, eight, nine, ten other
7:09people that are building the team from an optimal perspective.
7:13And I'll just say that a lot of what we're going to talk about and a lot of what you guys have
7:19talked about with your prior guests is the optimal way of building in best ball.
7:24But what happens when you get in a league and all 12 people are trying to build optimal?
7:29Everything just kind of neutralizes, right? And it's who got lucky, who had the best players, who had the least amount of injuries.
7:36There's not really an edge in the optimal construction anymore.
7:39So it's understanding where your league is with that.
7:42And there's difficulties maybe in certain leagues in getting to that optimal.
7:46So you might have to be able to adapt on the fly if you want to win.
7:51Did I articulate that right? Kind of what we talked about pre-show?
7:54Because I think it's a big topic. No, that was perfect.
7:58And I think that sets the stage here for us to kind of reply and maybe agree or, you know, depending on
8:04what we're seeing in our leagues too. So Jose, why don't you take the spotlight here, man?
8:10What are you seeing? Are you seeing the things that Scott's saying?
8:13And how are you combating it? Yeah, I mean, you could definitely feel it when you go, especially to trade with someone, how they're viewing.
8:21I think something Scott said, he said off camera that he didn't mention right now, but it's actually been sitting in my brain since he said it is.
8:29He doesn't view the players by names, right? They're just like a mathematical almost equation.
8:34And at first in my brain, when I hit, it was like a shock.
8:38It was like, I don't agree with that. But then I started thinking about my own process and how I view players
8:45by the points per game and how many points they're going to provide in a dynasty best ball.
8:50And I kind of realized that that is the same way.
8:54It's just a more like, I guess, jarring way.
8:56And I think very quickly you learn when you come across your trade partners, how they value players.
9:02Are they still hanging on to this guy's name, Justin Jefferson, or this guy's name, you know, XYZ?
9:07And that's something that I can pick up on.
9:10I know Scott mentioned he's in quite a few leagues, quite way more than I am, especially for dynasty baseball.
9:16So I haven't had as deep of a feeling.
9:19Obviously, you know, our podcast doesn't also have as deep of a reach.
9:23So I haven't run into people throwing, you know, I love this player on the podcast in my face when I'm trying
9:29to trade negotiate with them or anything like that yet.
9:32But I'm sure it's coming. I mean, you know, so but you definitely can.
9:37And it's in any league, but especially in dynasty best ball, some of those basic things that we've talked about that Scott
9:43was mentioning in terms of just how do you view your lineups?
9:47How do you view those end of the benches?
9:50You don't want to be taking zeros like you can see when you come across those people in your leagues, especially if
9:56you're playing in shallower formats or just with not experienced players because they just tell you, hey, I've never done a dynasty best ball before.
10:04So there's definitely a lot of that, you know, in getting to know your league.
10:09And just as soon as you get in trade negotiations, when I feel it the most that I could tell, okay, this
10:15person's not in tune with like the like we're talking about here, the dynasty best ball meadow.
10:20Yeah, no, well said there. And I agree with everything you guys are saying.
10:25And I have an idea. So I'm going to run by you guys here.
10:29And I haven't really figured this out how to implement something like this inside of an existing league.
10:34But for a startup, nonetheless, you know, as you're saying, you know, like everyone's kind of caught on to the ideal build.
10:41And essentially like the recipe for that is to, you know, tear down, you know, the opposite of consolidate, you know, split
10:48your assets, get those starters on your teams, find the points, build through the running back room.
10:53Well, I mean, because people are doing that, especially in a startup, everyone wants to move back, right?
10:58And with this new trend too, of, you know, more tight ends becoming popular, I'm kind of thinking, and we'll get into
11:05this and my thoughts on how we build a ideal wide receiver room moving forward.
11:10But what if you just build a more elite wide receiver room?
11:13So you only have, you know, like four or five guys that you're counting on to get into those wide receiver spots,
11:20but you know, they're like top 24 wide receivers.
11:23They're going to hit that, that spot more often than not.
11:26Then you can maybe go with some sort of hero RB build where you get one stud running back.
11:32And then the rest of your guys are these lower tier guys.
11:35And in that tier with like a Gainwell or Rashad White, or, you know, Zach Charbonnet, like that kind of tier players,
11:42guys that, you know, are going to get touches, but you can't really predict exactly when they're going to go off.
11:48And I mean, you could even throw in some starters in there, like a Montgomery or like a JK Dobbins, like those types of guys, right.
11:56Just to give you a little bit more of a floor, but then you got to worry about those flex spots, right?
12:03Well, that's where the tight ends and the new, you know, personnel trend going on, especially this is really only true in
12:10tight end premium leagues, which is, you know, kind of what we're talking about here.
12:14Those guys can fill your flex spots probably more, more often than, you know, those wide receivers that we'd be trying to attack.
12:21And, you know, those guys that are running like 250 to 350 routes a year, and they're getting maybe three to four targets a game.
12:29You're just hoping they get one for 40 yards and a touchdown, something like that.
12:33But my thought is that consolidate up into the wide receiver room, consolidate up for one running back, and then just build around those running backs.
12:41And this frees up space on your bench too, to where you can start rostering those running backs that are going to
12:48step into roles from a promotion role. They might be a zero for you, but they might, they might actually get you
12:55something guys like a Sean Tucker or like, you know, a Samajay Pirine or, or a guy like Ty Johnson, like those types of guys.
13:02They're not zeros every week. Like they'll, they'll spike and get a touchdown and, you know, maybe hit your, your flex or
13:09a running back spot for, for 10 points or something like that.
13:12But just stacking more of those guys on there, instead of these wide receivers that we've been building around.
13:18So that way, cause they're the more likely the boom bust profile, so that we want them on our team.
13:24This, this approach really only works in like a deeper league.
13:28And honestly, like, I don't know how to build this in an existing league, but coming out of a startup, I don't know.
13:35What do you guys think about something like this?
13:37Scott, give me your thoughts, man. Yeah. I mean, I, I see your point.
13:42I think one thing to remember about best ball and Jose, you kind of mentioned this, but if you really think about
13:48best ball, it is just a giant algebra equation.
13:51And the good news is we have some variables that aren't going to change.
13:55We have four positions. Generally, most leagues are 12 teams.
13:58When you're getting into 10 and 16 and 14, that changes the math a little bit, but I would say the majority
14:05of best ball leagues are 12 teams, right? So the 12 is a variable.
14:09That's not going to change the four positions are variables that are not going to change.
14:14Now, obviously we can have two QPs or super flex or start two tight ends.
14:19Like those are some of the nuances, but we know we have those things that are true.
14:24The 12 teams and the four positions, but then it becomes a teeter totter approach with the biggest and most important thing
14:30to me is how many roster spots period. I don't care about the starters.
14:35I don't care about the scoring. I care about how many roster spots do I have.
14:40And I look at that as how much insurance do I have to have?
14:44How much of my investment can I kind of let ride understanding the distribution of the entire NFL player pool?
14:50That's the main thing. One great thing about the NFL and about fantasy football, the player pool and the distribution of how
14:57the scoring happens over the course of a season does not change from year to year.
15:01I'll say that again. If you just take the last five years of X amount of running backs, X amount of receivers,
15:08X amount of tight ends, X amount of quarterbacks, those generally are repeatable from year to year might be a little higher,
15:15a little lower, but like those are the constraints that are not necessarily going to change.
15:20Then we introduce a lot of other variables. So to your point, I think it comes down to when you start inserting
15:26different variables and different constraints based on your league, it does become a teeter totter approach of, okay, if I'm going to
15:33go five really good receivers, I'm going to have to roster extra volume somewhere.
15:37Now we can debate whether Ty Johnson and Samajay Pirine are more efficient uses of volume versus lesser receivers and then more volume at receiver, right?
15:45That's kind of what you're saying, but I think it still comes down to, if you have to build a team differently,
15:52if everybody in your league is taking the Scott Connor approach of, I got to go heavy RB, heavy quarterback, make sure I have those locked down.
16:00And then I'm going to just dart throw at tight end or receiver.
16:04That's the optimal, but guess what doesn't work when you have 12 managers that are all trying to roster between 15 and
16:1120 tight ends and receivers, they are going to get depleted at some point, right?
16:15Like there's not going to be enough waiver wire receivers for everybody.
16:19Believe it or not, they do run out at some point.
16:22So I think it's just a teeter totter approach and understanding if you're going to do that, if I'm going to go
16:29in a startup and I'm going to draft three top 10 receivers, I, I have to budget the other parts of my roster differently.
16:36And that's where people mess up. They will not roster all because they're you're, I'm right.
16:41You're right. There's a ton of, you know, guys like D Mercado, George Helani, Xavier Scott, Ty Johnson.
16:46Those are kind of the dark throw running back versions that nobody thinks to roster.
16:51But for every one of those guys, you probably have to change the numbers that you have at the other positions.
16:57Otherwise you're going to be a little bit inefficient in your roster construction.
17:01So it can work. It's just understanding that teeter totter.
17:04And the ultimate goal of best ball is to try to balance out your entire roster.
17:09And then within those four balanced positions, mixing in the spike weeks, mixing in some of the value liquidity that still is
17:16important in case you want to change things up.
17:19That's what Jose, you were mentioning about players don't matter.
17:22Value still matters, right? If I want to change my best ball team over from year to year, like I want to do something drastic, guess what?
17:30I probably don't want 30 average or below average or aging assets, right?
17:34Cause then I can't fix it. I got to have something, a young QB, a young receiver, a young tight end that
17:40I say, yeah, I don't really want to split Trey McBride, but if I had to, I could probably turn him into a first and Tucker craft.
17:49And I could still probably construct the same way, but I could find a way to add to my team, but you
17:55have to have those pieces in the form of liquidity somewhere on your roster.
18:00If you want to fix stuff. Yeah. Yeah. So, so smooth.
18:03And yeah, we're going to get into all that, the value and how much we want to invest in these wide receivers and other positions in general.
18:11We'll, we'll qualify all of that. Jose, any last thoughts here before we move on into the main segment here?
18:17No, I mean, I think I completely agree with what you're both saying.
18:21And yeah, I mean, values still matters. Just like the, like the part about not getting so stuck on the name and what that player means.
18:29But I mean, like Scott saying, if you're playing in a league where 10 people are all playing the same, that you're
18:36just never going to be able to play that same way.
18:39Right. You got to find a different way and a different angle to attack the problem.
18:44So I think that's basically what we're all kind of saying here.
18:48And it's just going to be, you know, who gets in first, right.
18:51If you want to be the optimal build, then you got to get in first, especially in a, in a startup.
18:58Yeah. A hundred percent. So maybe we didn't quite solve it.
19:01Maybe we didn't quite find the edge. Let us know what you guys think.
19:05Give us your thoughts on all of this down in the comments, but we're going to pause here to hear a quick word from the pod father.
19:14And we'll be back with you guys on the other side to talk wide receiver roster construction.
19:19If you play in dynasty, you need dynasty deluxe, our premium package for dynasty leaguers.
19:23We rank over 300 players updated every week, all year long.
19:27And there's a wind now mode and a rebuild mode with super flex and tight end premium controls and a dynasty league
19:33sync where you can say, sink down all of my sleeper teams, all my FFPC teams.
19:38And then you can browse around your leagues for who has needs.
19:42And then you can use our trade finder to see what kinds of trades are happening in leagues that are similar to the one I want to do.
19:50Then you can analyze trades using our trade analyzer, which balances the lifetime value, which includes pick values out to like 20, 28, all of that.
19:58Plus the rookie guide, $25 value is included. So if you're just in one dynasty league, dynasty deluxe is well worth it
20:05and use your hosts promo code and you can bump up to all in and get $25 off.
20:10Right now, get up to 15% off select storage solutions.
20:13Put heavy duty HDX totes to good use, protecting what's important to you.
20:17The solid impact resistant design prevents cracking and the clear base and sides make items easy to find.
20:23Even when the totes are stacked, find select shelving and tote storage up to 15% off at the home Depot to organize
20:30every room in your home from your garage to your attic.
20:33Visit homedepot.com. How doers get more done. All right.
20:36Welcome back. Let's get into it here, guys. We're going to be talking dynasty best ball roster construction for the wide receivers specifically.
20:43I think for this purpose of today, like we have done in our previous episodes, let's assume a 12 by 11 super
20:49flex tight end premium, assign it a 1.0. If you need to put a number to it, and we're going to be
20:56talking 27 deep rosters, not shallow, not super deep, right in between there.
21:00So as we've done with these other episodes here, let's start off with just saying, and we kind of answered this in
21:07the quick hit, but what's your process for evaluating a roster build, particularly for wide receivers?
21:11I know it's going to start with scoring settings and stuff, but after that, are you looking at your league mates and
21:18what your, your league mates are rostering in terms of numbers, and quality of wide receivers here is just take it from
21:25top to bottom here, Scott, when you're looking at your team for the first time in the off season, and you're looking
21:31at your wide receiver room, what are you looking at to kind of start that build and go forward for that season?
21:38Yeah, I think with receivers is first of all, it's the most elastic position, meaning I think you have the most flexibility.
21:45If we're using this format, 27 man rosters, start 11, the very first thing you have to figure out is what are the flex values?
21:52That is huge because we're assuming what three receivers, you have to start here.
21:57Start three is probably pretty standard. I would guess in most best ball leagues.
22:01So right there, where you start at receiver is understanding that I have to have at least 51 starting receiver weeks that are optimal.
22:08Now we keep using that word optimal, but we're also assuming this might be a brand new league where nobody has a team yet.
22:15You don't know who the managers you're going up against.
22:18So I'm going to approach it by default. I'm going to try to build using some optimal principles.
22:24And I'll just give you guys this because I've calculated it before for a very similar format.
22:29The optimal to be like above the median is around 12 points per game to get into like a flex or above.
22:36Obviously, like you don't want your wide receiver one at 12 points per game.
22:40But if you essentially said, I want to try to shoot for at least 12 points per game in the weeks where
22:47I get a player to hit into my lineup, that's kind of the baseline.
22:51So when you just assume that you really have to understand, like based on your scoring, what are the flex values of receiver?
22:58So if we're assuming a 1.5 premium, there's no point per carry here.
23:02Receivers are going to populate your flexes almost half the time.
23:05Last year was about 16 out of 36. So if we're doing three flexes here, it's about 50% of the time you're
23:12going to want a receiver in your flex. Okay.
23:15So I have to start three receivers. I have to play for 17 weeks.
23:19What is that? It's 51 times. I need to hit that 12 or higher mark.
23:23Right. And then in my flexes, if you take one and a half, so half the weeks, I need to start a receiver in the flexes.
23:31Basically multiply that 1.5 by another 17. Jose, you got that math in your head?
23:361.5 times 17. We're around 20, 26 ish, right?
23:3925, 26. Yeah. 25.5. Totally did that in my head.
23:42Okay. So 25.5 and 51. You add those together.
23:44That is like the minimum pool that I need from my receivers.
23:48And it's easier if you see this in a visual, but if you just start looking at your league like that, I'm
23:55looking at this like, okay, I have to hit at least 76, 12 plus point per game from my receivers that I have on my roster.
24:03So I'm curious at how many receivers last year.
24:05So I'm just talking 2025. 25. I'll ask you both.
24:08How many receivers hit that mark at least 12 times last year?
24:12Ooh, 12 times. That's a important variable there. I'm going to say 30.
24:16No way less. At least, at least 12 times.
24:19They were over that 12 number. I was going about half.
24:22I was going to say 15. No, it's even less under 10.
24:26Wow. And so like it, at the top, when you're looking at like the elite, elite receivers, it's very rare that they're hitting that number every single week.
24:34Right. But you get a lot of them that end up hitting that number.
24:38Or nine times, 10 times, 11 times, 12 times.
24:41That goes back to your point about if I'm going to draft Jackson Smith and Jigba or Jamar Chase or Puka Nakua,
24:48like I can almost assume they're going to hit that number.
24:51Now, of course I want them to be my wide receiver one.
24:55So the number is a little bit higher, but you get the point.
24:59I'm assuming they're going to make up that 17.
25:01They're going to do it like 14, 15, 16 times.
25:05Right. If I'm drafting in the first round of a startup.
25:08So then if you just think about, okay, how many of those guys would offset the fact that I can roster, gosh,
25:15the number of guys that only hit that one time.
25:18I think there were over 40 unique receivers that only did that one time.
25:22And we can all think of those guys. Those are the guys you get off waivers.
25:27Those are the Roman Wilsons or Isaiah Hodgins, you know, those types.
25:30So I kind of look at that as I can always get that type for free.
25:35So it's just balancing out those numbers. I mean, that's my approach at receiver, whether I'm going to say roster 15 receivers,
25:42or I'm going to say roster seven receivers, anything in between can be correct.
25:46But understanding that I do need to make them as at least a half of those flex weeks that I have have to be at receiver.
25:54So I'm not just budgeting for the receivers, but I'm also budgeting for the flexes at the same time.
26:00So that that's where it really comes down receivers.
26:02The one spot where I can be flexible based on how efficient I can get at the other positions.
26:08You know, I know you guys have talked quarterback and running back already, but those seem to be a little more non-negotiable, right?
26:15Like I probably need at least three starting quarterbacks in best ball.
26:19I probably need at least five running backs in best ball just to get through the season with bi-weeks with injuries, especially if those running backs aren't elite.
26:27Like I'm probably only going to hit that number half the time.
26:31So I'm looking at receivers as largely that's going to be the majority of my flexes.
26:36How many do I need based on the quality that I have at the top?
26:40That's how I would say the approach is it's very much who do I draft?
26:45What's the best value? Who do I prefer? Do I want to draft some of my liquidity at receiver?
26:51You know, I don't like a guy like Luther burden in best ball because it feels like I can just do something
26:57better with the pick that I can get for him or where I have to select him, but he could be one
27:04of the spots where I say, you know what?
27:07If he's pretty good, that feels like a guy I could easily down tier off for another receiver in a second or
27:14something like that, because he still is in his liquid market period.
27:17So hopefully that answers the question, but this is the most flexible and variable spot and understanding that in 27 man rosters, what's going to exist for free.
27:26A lot of times I'm going to be able to find that one or two time per year guy off waivers.
27:32So maybe you do build a little bit differently at the higher ranges of receiver with the shallower rosters, where if it's
27:3932, 33, 34 man rosters, believe it or not, six Roman Wilsons probably equals one, like Devante Smith or Jordan Addison or somebody like that.
27:46And people don't like to hear that, but the reality is like Jordan Addison hit that number.
27:51I believe five times last year. If I have the capacity for five Mitchell Tinsley's or Isaiah Hodgins, they're one in the same.
27:58So that that's kind of how you would look at this number as how much leeway do I have to build out with the receiver pool?
28:06Mitchell Tinsley. It feels like only the Bengals fans know who that guy is.
28:11Hey, he had a game though, right? Like that.
28:13He had a game. Hey, no shade, no shade at all.
28:17I have a question for you, Scott, when it comes to, you know, projecting how many starts you're assigning to one of
28:23these players, are you looking at past seasons, what they did last season, or are you looking at projections and kind of going from there?
28:31Is there a tool you're using? How, how are you evaluating how many starts a guy has given you?
28:37Honestly, I don't overthink it because I think in this range of players, I mean, you guys have probably listened to some best ball redraft content out there.
28:45And people are drafting 50 different receivers in the last round or two.
28:49And it's always the same narrative, right? Like, that guy could be the wide receiver three.
28:54And he could have a week where, you know, he gets six targets or spikes for a touchdown.
28:59I mean, I think it's very unscientific because right now, I mean, I'm looking, I'm looking at, I pulled five best ball
29:06leagues just for this show, just to kind of give the average of number of players rostered at each position.
29:12So I'm curious, what do you, what do you guess, Jose five best ball leagues?
29:17They're all between 12 teams, 27 and 12 by 32.
29:20What's the average number of quarterbacks rostered in these five leagues that I looked at?
29:24Let's take a guess. Probably like six. I don't know between the backups.
29:28They were counting like, no across the league. Oh, across the league.
29:32Yeah. So project it out. If you think it's six, it's probably around like 70, 72.
29:37Yeah. Yeah. So the average, it's a little lower, but it's around 65.
29:41You guys know that's inefficient, right? There's not 65 quarterbacks worth roster spots today in best ball.
29:46I would much rather roster the last receiver on waivers than roster will Levis.
29:50You know what I mean? Like that, that type of QB.
29:53And if I see 65 quarterbacks rostered, if I see a hundred plus running backs rostered, that, that is already the inefficiency.
30:00You know what that tells me? That tells me there are some receivers and tight ends that I can get for free.
30:07So if you go in your league and you see that that quarterback number is extremely high, you see that running back number is extremely high.
30:15I can assure you there are not going to be a hundred plus running backs relevant in best ball.
30:2025 of those are people thinking they know this guy could be relevant, but they're like, man, it's hard in best ball
30:27to roster Jarquez Hunter in week one. You can hope, but you only have so many roster spots to allocate to a
30:34guy that probably isn't seeing the field. So that's where that'll give you kind of that idea of how accessible are those free receivers?
30:41And I don't have a way to project who the wide receiver a hundred is going to be.
30:47There's a hundred of them that probably could make up about 30 to 40 spots that we just don't know.
30:53And that's why those rosters are so high in the off season.
30:56Cause everybody thinks it's Jeff Caldwell or Cyrus Allen or Josh Cameron or whoever it might be.
31:01The justification is they're one of those dark throws.
31:04That's why somebody would pick them up in best ball.
31:07So that's the answer. I don't, I don't use projections.
31:10I just kind of go, will this guy be on the field?
31:14If so, he probably fits into that. 124 different receivers in 2025 had at least 12 points or more in a single week.
31:21So that's a reference point. 124. Now, some of those were at the end of the year, but you get the point.
31:28Like it probably goes at least a hundred deep, but it's not 150 deep.
31:32So there you go. No, that's totally fair. Jose, what about you, man?
31:36What's your process here for building a roster for wide receivers?
31:39Yeah. I mean, not to say too much that Scott already said, cause he kind of hit all the nails on the head.
31:46I think one of the things he's talking about in somewhere where you can gain those edges is being really plugged in
31:53and avoiding a lot of the noise of like training camp, for example.
31:57But there's a lot of nuggets you can get about who's that third wide receiver, right?
32:02We all know that Puka and Devante Adams are running, but who's that third guy running with them, right?
32:07In Jacksonville specifically, right? This year, who's that guy that's going to be on the field in two of the running two tight end sets.
32:15And there's only two wide receivers out there. And then who's the third guy?
32:19Who's the first guy who's getting the shine? I think that's where playing attention to the NFL, right?
32:25A lot of people, you know, they like watching the NFL, but they watch for their player.
32:30How do they do it in fantasy? I think if you're plugged into the NFL, you can get some of those edges.
32:36There's been plenty of times at dynasty basketball where teams are heading into, you know, the end of the season week, 16, 17, right?
32:44Those are very important weeks for us, but sometimes for the NFL, it isn't.
32:48And then you got to have a Zacchaeus, Oliveira, or whatever his name was pop off, or it was a guy for
32:55the chargers two seasons ago, like their fourth wide receiver.
32:58Right. And I think that's when, you know, waivers are obviously open all the time.
33:02Like you don't need that guy on your roster week one, as Scott's saying, you can find throughout the entire season, paying
33:09attention to injuries, not just the injuries to the main guys, but you know, who was a wide receiver two on the Raiders that got hurt.
33:17Okay. Now let me go find who's that wide receiver three.
33:20Right. And maybe your league mates, if they're rostering seven quarterbacks, as Scott is saying here, being extremely inefficient, because you see
33:27that a lot, especially for like rebuilders and stuff.
33:30They're like, Oh, well, I'm going to roster every backup quarterback under the sun, because then when he becomes a starter, maybe I can flip it for something.
33:38And it's like, sure. But is it, you know, that's a viable strategy, but it was, it was finding that wide receiver.
33:45That's going to have two or three weeks. Also just as a viable option to, as a trade piece to trade down later.
33:52Right. Like we were saying earlier, trading for thirds and fourths, that's sort of like dirty work.
33:57But yeah, in general, I think I agree a lot with what Scott's saying.
34:01I think they're just by the nature of the NFL, when they have more wide receivers on the field, there's more chances
34:08for you to be able to stretch your wide receiver room into, you know, different tiers and across different players where you
34:14don't necessarily need, you know, that stud or, or that Jamar chase to hold down your room, the way that I think
34:21you might need in a running back room, for example.
34:24So yeah, I mean you know, obviously you're taking into account the scoring settings and all those sorts of things, but as
34:31a wide view, that's kind of what I would add to what Scott said.
34:35Yeah. Good point. I mean, you don't have to have it figured out going into the season.
34:40You can definitely backfill some of those guys and some of those starts in season.
34:45So it's a, it's a good valid way to approach a roster build also.
34:49All right, let's get into the next question here.
34:52How does roster size affect how you want to build a wide receiver room?
34:56Scott, you kind of already alluded to, you know, the number one thing you look at is how many roster spots do I have available to me?
35:04So what does that look like? What are the nuances to consider in a shallow league versus a deeper league here?
35:11Yeah, I think I've made the mistake too. I have a couple of leagues that are dynasty best ball and they are,
35:17uh, the FFPC does this where they're 22 man rosters.
35:20I have a few others that are 23 or 24 and you can go a little extreme.
35:26And go too gross at receiver or go too gross at tight end.
35:29And then all of a sudden, you know, I equate it to this.
35:33If I knew that in a certain market, I could just pick up dollars for free off the street.
35:39I wouldn't really value dollars in a trade, right?
35:42I mean, we would say, well, you all value dollars, but that's kind of what it is in a shallower best ball league.
35:49You're, you're looking at waivers and you're like, man, there's a couple of tight ends out there that are available on waivers.
35:56You know, another shout out to a Bengal, but somebody like Eric all or Charlie Kohler, you really do the projections on those guys.
36:03And if they hit, you know, 35 catches, 30 catches or something like that, they're not that different from somebody like a Evan Ingram.
36:10You know what I mean? But yet one's probably rostered and one might be available for free.
36:15And that's what you notice in those shallower leagues is I constantly find myself looking at waivers going like, man, kind of
36:22want to pick up Taequann Thornton, or I kind of want to pick up Yoshi Voss or somebody like that.
36:28And they're on waivers. And I know in best ball, those are guys I do want to pick up because they will
36:35hit your lineup a couple of times. But then I look at my team and it's like, man, I went too gross at receiver.
36:42So I'm already not, I'm not strong enough to where I'm basically just cutting another player similar to that to pick up one of those guys.
36:50So unless I can find somebody to do what I call like a sucker trade, where basically I give you two pieces
36:57and you give me one, and then you let me backfill with the dollar for free that I already know I can pick up shallower formats.
37:04You're much more likely to play it more like a lineup league.
37:08Hey, I'll, I'll give up two, three pieces for one, knowing that what's replacement.
37:12It's not replacement value. I think people hear replacement value and they think war.
37:17This is literally like, what's the replacement value of a roster spot?
37:20And in shallower leagues, it's often pretty high, right?
37:23You guys probably in some shallow leagues and you look at waivers, you're like, damn, that guy on waivers isn't much different
37:30than the two guys I'm rostering on my team.
37:32Like they're literally interchangeable. When I see that, it makes me want to add more of them for nothing.
37:38How can I consolidate? How can I trade two pieces for one?
37:42And especially if I can do that in like a non impactful range, that feels like that's the mistake people make in
37:48shallower leagues is they, they don't balance out enough.
37:51They'll go too much into the extremes and say, I'll just roster with volume at tight end or at, at receiver.
37:58And then they'll realize, man, that the free version of receiver in tight end is actually higher than what it should be.
38:04And it doesn't really help their roster anymore because they're already expanded there.
38:08So understanding shallower, you probably have to be a little more balanced in terms of being strong at all four positions rather
38:15than leaning into the extreme, like volume over quantity at wide receiver and at tight end.
38:20Yeah, for sure. Jose, why don't you speak to that, man?
38:23Yeah. I mean, I think that's just a much more eloquent way of the way that I think about it, which is
38:30just like, yeah, like if you have less roster spots, things are at a premium.
38:34There's not as much space to waste on, you know, frivolous, like things that like we're talking about, if you have five, six extra roster spots, right?
38:42Like you. And I think the biggest thing for people, if we're talking about like the, you know, dynasty best ball basics
38:49and, and ideal builds is always paying attention to that, right?
38:52Like you, we say you should pay attention, but what does that actually mean?
38:57Right? Like I guess it's a little bit of my teacher brain.
39:00Like when I'm telling students to pay attention or I want them to understand something, like, I don't want you to just
39:07like look at it and say 12 by 11 superflakes sign of room and then be able to repeat that to me.
39:14But what does that actually mean? What does that 27 at the end actually mean?
39:18Instead of it was like a 23 or a 22, like what we're saying, right?
39:23Like you need to have an understanding of what those settings say, not just understand that they're different, but what does that actually mean?
39:30And how does that change your strategy? Especially, you know, if you're taking over a orphan or something like, right, we always
39:37talk about startups, but if you're coming into a league, what does that mean?
39:41Right? Like how, what does that team have? What does it have at the end of its bench?
39:47Don't just be looking at the starters. Like Scott was saying, look and go through the other teams.
39:52How are they rostering? Are they doing that? Do they have, you know, a bunch of wide receivers wasting the end of
39:59their bench instead of optimizing how they should be based on the format and the roster size.
40:04So that's, those are things that, you know, I think also people should be thinking about, especially taking on orphans or just,
40:11you know, in, in leagues that are already established.
40:13Like these are things that we're saying are dynasty best ball principles, but I can tell you 90% of people out there,
40:20you know, are not playing like Scott or like the things we're talking about here.
40:24They're kind of, a lot of people are still pretty new to this dynasty best ball thing, even if it's growing.
40:31And a lot of people just haven't really flipped that switches.
40:34Uh, we were saying earlier into this mode. So, um, even in set leagues where you're playing with sharp players, I think
40:41some of these things can still be very, um, applicable and things you can, you know, take advantage of now.
40:47Yeah, Scott, I've never really played in an FFPC league in those 22 man roster best ball leagues.
40:52Do you still have to have the cut down to 16 as the new season rolls over?
40:58So it cuts down to 22 in the off season or in the in season.
41:02And then in the off season, it cuts down to 16.
41:05To 16. So you still have that cut down.
41:08So even it's very similar to like, uh, it it's like this, but you just cut off five rosters bots, but yeah,
41:15it cuts down even more extreme in the off season.
41:18Yes. Yeah. Which, you know, makes it even harder to roster those gross guys because I mean, yeah, they're easy cuts, but
41:25they're going to be easy to pick back up.
41:27But you know, if your 15th and 16th best player are also gross guys, like you'd just rather cut them also.
41:34Right. But you can't really get to that. Cause what I was going to say too, is I feel like in shallower
41:40leagues, I like where you can, as a rebuilder, especially in season, you're, you're really likely to be able to, to consolidate
41:47and, you know, make those three for ones or four for ones.
41:51And that's kind of how I build my wide receiver rooms.
41:54When I'm, when I'm rebuilding is I, I'm just collecting guys, especially in season.
41:58People are dropping guys that, you know, like if they're injured, like, yeah, put them on my team.
42:04Like I'll be able to trade them next year, probably for, for something valuable, or maybe they come back in a few
42:10weeks and then I can package them up in something and consolidate into, into, I was talking, you know, an episode or
42:17two ago about how I made a trade. I got CD lamb and a first, and I think I traded away like
42:24Travis HN, you know, like Dallas Goddard, like Jacoby Brissett.
42:27And like, I don't know, like, uh, another like low end white running back, but the guy was competing and that dude
42:33ended up winning the league, you know, but I got CD lamb and a first for, you know, four assets that I
42:40just don't really feel like whatever equate to that.
42:43And, and when I'm rebuilding consolidating into those wide receivers, like Scott saying, you kind of want to play in that lineup,
42:50you know, version of your brain when you're doing that.
42:53Like I'm getting myself into a position where now I have the ammunition to actually fill those back, fill those spots, those
42:59holes that I'm creating with those first. But then I also have a stud inside that wide receiver slot there too.
43:06So it just changes, you know, everything changes between shallow and deep leagues in a best ball league.
43:11And I, I really liked the shallow leagues and kind of being able to, to turn over those spots and get into them.
43:18All right. Any last thoughts on, on this before we move into the next one, guys?
43:23No, but I would suggest you guys do an episode on how to rebuild in best ball, because it's exactly what you just said.
43:30It's leaning into these markets that, you know, other people are going to be interested in, in buying into during the season.
43:37So everything we just talked about, what are more likely to be the things people want to buy during the season?
43:43It's probably the things that they've already tried to set and forget.
43:47And then they now have to fix right. Backup QBs.
43:50Like Jose was saying, if I'm tanking in a best ball, I'm holding every backup QB.
43:55That's more likely the thing. Somebody goes, Hey man, I could really use this backup QB this week because I know it's
44:01one of four that I need to have to hit my lineup.
44:05I'll give you a third. Same with running backs.
44:08Like that is the situation where you would say, I will roster the third RB because if there's one injury, the third
44:15RB becomes the second and they might be a guy somebody would roster and then injured players.
44:20Hey, you have a receiver that's injured. I have a similar valued receiver.
44:24That's not injured. How about you toss me your second?
44:27You give me the injured CD lamb and I'll give you the plain Mecca Buka.
44:31And sometimes the team that has the injured CD lamb, they either break them up into multiple pieces, which a lot of people don't want to do.
44:39Or they'll pay the tax of an extra second to get to another guy in the same tier to try to keep that same production.
44:47Cause that's what they're banking on in their team.
44:50So if you're rebuilding, that's the kind of, if you're rebuilding in best ball, you need to be more active than if you're trying to win.
44:58Exactly. You need to be looking at every other team and saying, where could those nine, 10 other competing teams need to be pulling weekly to get stuff.
45:06You become the store that has that stuff for sale.
45:09You want to, you want to become everybody's best friend in the league when you're rebuilding.
45:14Yes. What do you need? Come to me. I think we got the next episode, you know, to hook Scott to come back on here.
45:22I think we just, I think we just set it up right there, but yeah, I mean, I think that's extremely valuable information.
45:29And like we've talked about too, it's, it's way different.
45:32We don't want to get too far in the weeds here in terms of rebuilding.
45:36But yeah, I think, I think that's all super insightful and helpful stuff.
45:40Yeah, very much. So yeah. Being active nonetheless is, is, is the key to it all.
45:45I think in that trade where I traded away Dallas got it.
45:49I think I got them for free off of waivers this season prior.
45:53People gave up on them and I was like, you know what?
45:56Like I got, I got the roster spot. I'll throw them on the bench.
46:00So just a cherry on top to, to that rebuilding story there.
46:04Let's get in to the next question here, which is how much does the much discussed NFL personnel and formation trends change
46:11roster construction for our best ball teams in terms of wide receiver?
46:14Right. I mean, we talked about this or I talked about it a little bit earlier about how these tight ends are becoming more prevalent.
46:22They can kind of, especially in a tight end premium league, they can fill in those flex spots a little bit more.
46:29So you don't necessarily need as many wide receivers.
46:31I'm going to talk about here about the, the JJ Zachariasen article and let's see, I think I got it up.
46:38I don't have it up actually, but that's okay.
46:41We're going to keep going with it. He has the wide receiver share and slot targets of slot targets between the wide receivers and the tight ends.
46:49And it's a graph that goes all the way up, up, up, trending up, trending up from 71% to 76% from 2014 to 2020.
46:56And now it's on a decline from 76% to 72% from 2020 to 2024.
47:00So that just means the wide receivers are getting more of the slot targets in recent years.
47:05How are you utilizing this trend change here for, for this in our best ball teams here, Scott?
47:11Well, I'll give a shout out to JJ. Cause I remember listening to this pod and it's actually something that I'm listening
47:18to it and just shaking my head the entire time.
47:21Like, yeah, that totally makes sense. Cause it has happened the last three years, a wide receiver scoring, not even like wide
47:27receiver threes, but just like the wide receiver to all the way down from picture, like season long, maybe like wide receiver
47:3410 and below like that, the impact, the war impact of those types of players has dropped year over year.
47:40So it's reflected in exactly what he's talking about.
47:43And I think this is a bigger trend across the NFL from a best ball perspective.
47:48And I would encourage everybody to go listen to it.
47:51Cause it'll really kind of put this stuff. He does a really good job in like 20 minutes of articulating something that
47:57would take us two hours to articulate. But I think for best ball, this doesn't have that big of an impact for me.
48:04I think what it does do is it does change the receiver market a little bit, but picture one of those guys
48:11that everyone would say could be impacted by this.
48:14The Jane and Reed as archetype for this, right?
48:16For me, he's not that different in best ball though.
48:19In best ball, he occupies one of those like small innings eaters.
48:23He's like a middle reliever that I know I'm going to need to give me a couple innings once or twice a
48:30week in a baseball game, but I'm never expecting him to come in and pitch six innings.
48:35I'm never expecting him to come in and absolutely dominate or win me my league.
48:39Right? So maybe he is going to hit my lineup one less week because of this trend.
48:45But I think the overall impact here is maybe that 124 number from last year goes slightly down.
48:50Maybe that's more like 115 to 120, but in the grand scheme of things, is that really that impactful in terms of best ball construction?
48:58I don't think so personally. Like, I don't think this trend is going to be impactful enough to say that it changes
49:04overall how we approach the receiver position. I think what it does do, and I'm curious on Jose's thoughts on this, I
49:11actually think it takes, it creates an even bigger blind spot in best ball.
49:15Now, those wide receiver twos or threes that people view as like safe, or they're valued in a range because they have a little dynasty liquidity.
49:23I think as the average best ball manager gets smarter, think of like the Jalen Waddell archetype.
49:28Like, he could be a wide receiver too, pretty easily, I think.
49:32But if you actually think about what is his liquidity in your league versus what is his impact?
49:37Like, I can tell you probably based on last year's numbers, he projects to hit your lineup right around six to nine times.
49:44That's it. Now, I can give you many other players that probably project to hit that number three to five times.
49:51And I'm going to tell you is the value of those guys relative to Jalen Waddell, it is not a two to one value ratio.
49:58It's probably like 10 to one. Right? Like Jaden Reed, right?
50:02A lot of people would say, oh, Jaden Reed is not worth 60% of Jalen Waddell.
50:07Yet, from a best ball impact perspective, he probably is.
50:10So, I think it creates this vacuum effect where unless a wide receiver two slash wide receiver three is truly going to
50:16take a leap into the next tier, I think this trend impacts those players most.
50:21And those are probably the market you want to try to exploit some of the other managers if they still hold those
50:28guys of pretty high value because it's Dynasty. Yeah, I think those are the type of guys, I think when we've been
50:34talking about, right, like one of the best ways and especially at the wide receiver room is maybe tearing down, spreading across,
50:41you know, a wide net, so to speak. I think a lot of people think of like just the big guys like
50:48Jamar Chase, JSN Puka that you could be splitting.
50:50But I think, you know, Jalen Waddell, Tee Higgins, those other wide receiver twos like you're talking about, if you're in a
50:57team like, you know, I have a team where like Jalen Waddell and like Tee Higgins, those sort of guys are kind of my lead wide receivers.
51:05It's something that I've been trying to do and it's hard because, people are a little bit afraid of doing like two
51:12or three for ones when it comes to those players because they don't see it as such an easy asset.
51:18But I think that is definitely a place like if you can go split Jalen Waddell and get three guys back in return.
51:25And now, you know, like you're playing the numbers game.
51:28Now you have more guys that are hitting your lineup more often because of Jalen Waddell's, you know, he's not going to
51:35hit the 12 points per game at that tick rate.
51:38Then I think that's also a great way in a great spot where you can be tearing down and gaining, you know,
51:44more assets, more startable players because like you said, those players have a cache.
51:49They carry a dynasty value. They have more name than some of the guys that you might be splitting into.
51:55And I think it's particularly like into rookies. I think that's a different, definitely a way that you could, you know, garner more value.
52:02Some of these rookies are not nearly as coveted.
52:05So I think those are easy guys that you could, you know, kind of trade down into specifically.
52:10Yeah. Well said. Yeah. I hadn't thought about how this would affect those wide receiver archetypes.
52:15In my mind, it just meant that there were going to be a smaller pool of wide receivers to play from, but
52:22I actually dug into the numbers here quite a bit.
52:25Cause I was, I was thinking like, okay, in general, right.
52:28That means that there should just be less wide receiver routes run over, you know, the past couple of seasons, there should be a decline.
52:36And I didn't really see that as I was kind of looking into those numbers.
52:40It seemed to be that they, they held steady.
52:43They kind of spiked, they went up, they went down, but in general, like last season was also just a down season in general for passing.
52:51And I have thoughts into why that is, but I won't dig into here, but it seemed to be that there was just more wide receivers.
52:59It's substantially more right receivers running between 200 and 250 routes than previous years.
53:03And that might've been because, you know, there was a couple injured guys.
53:07Like I think Godwin landed in that range. I want to say Mike Evans landed in that range, Ricky Pierce saw, but
53:14there were also a lot of like guys that got in there.
53:17And there was, you know, I think I counted 22 spike weeks of over 10 points per game in a PPR league
53:24from, from that range of wide receivers. So, I mean, in general, like I kind of agree with Scott.
53:30Like I don't necessarily buy into this. I think if anything, it just makes tight ends a little more relevant and you
53:36can kind of get even a little grosser with them.
53:39Uh, and rostering those guys, like you don't need these top end ones.
53:43You can kind of roster, you know, like Scott's always saying roster, you know, five is the ideal number for them, but
53:50you can get even grosser with them. Like Mike Kisecki is a guy that is left for dead right now.
53:56Another guy's Tyler Higbee. Everyone is, you know, treating Terrence Ferguson as if he's just going to rocket ship emoji to the moon here.
54:03But I don't think that Tyler Higbee just got a two year extension.
54:07Like, I don't think he's dead. He's going to factor in like, especially since they just drafted another tight end, you know, with, um, Max Clare.
54:15And then they also have, um, who's the other guy, Colby Parkinson, right?
54:19I think that's just how McVay wants to operate.
54:22He has all the same type of arc build.
54:25He has four different guys that he can throw the ball to at any time.
54:29He likes to disguise his, his routes and, and his looks at on the offense.
54:34And so all those guys are going to cycle in and any of those guys are valuable and a best ball build for me.
54:41So that's kind of my takeaway here. All right, guys, we got about three minutes left here before we got to jump
54:48into the outro, but let's give our closing thoughts here on kind of, you know, roster construction for wide receivers in general, or maybe just this trend.
54:56Scott, lead us off here, man. Well, it was a great discussion.
54:59I think you summed up a great point with, I don't think it moves the needle.
55:04I don't think it moves the needle a lot in the format we're talking about on this show.
55:10I think it certainly moves the needle. If you're talking shallower, redrafts or dynasty lineup leagues, because typically what have we always kind of overvalued?
55:17A lot of those receivers in that range. Cause there's always somebody, you know, that's the range of Brian Thomas, Marvin Harrison, Roma, Dunze, those types.
55:25The reality is the majority of those guys will never escape the range.
55:29They're currently in yet. Their dynasty market until they're in like year four and people go, yeah, they're probably not going to become a wide receiver.
55:37One people value them like they could. And that's where this gap is in the end.
55:42I think really what this equates to is you said it perfectly.
55:46Instead of it being like a two to one ratio of receiver to tight end spike weeks, it might be more like 60 to 40%.
55:53That's not a huge change, but across the course of a season in a best ball league, you say, yeah, I probably
56:00can go find another really nasty tight end or roster in lieu of maybe carrying another receiver or two.
56:06But if we're talking 27 man rosters, maybe I'm looking at roster in six tight ends and 11 receivers now, instead of 13 receivers and four tight ends.
56:14Like that's how small the difference is. And then everybody in between, I don't think it changes a lot for the receivers that already have a moderate role.
56:23Like you were saying the part-time, you know, seven to eight point per game receivers or guys that are slightly lower than that, or maybe injury replacements.
56:31Like, I don't think it impacts them at all.
56:34It adds a few more relevant tight ends, probably puts a couple more tight ends on the field for more snaps, which
56:40makes them much more best ball worthy. But I just, I don't think that trend really changes how we're constructing our teams,
56:47except for maybe a couple spots here and there between tight end and receiver.
56:51And I do think we have to watch this trend because people have jumped on it.
56:56The NFL adapts as well to think teams are, I mean, I'll never forget that the two different ways that the Rams
57:03have talked about this and the Rams are credited as being the team that like led the charge.
57:08Right. And then the Jags GM during draft day going, man, we need to load up on tight ends.
57:14And it's like, that's exactly what the teams that had success with it.
57:18Want all the other teams to do. We want all these teams to spend precious draft capital and money resources to chase.
57:25Because we did it. Meanwhile, the Rams are probably sitting there going, man, we're going to catch everybody off guard in 2027.
57:31And we're going to go away from it entirely because that's, what's going to work then because the Jags drafted Nate Bokertcher.
57:38Well, and guess what? It also works for teams like the Rams.
57:42Cause they have Puka Nakua. They can put him on the field by himself and he can occupy spaces that not every
57:48team has the right formation and the right construction to do that.
57:52So I think we may look up in a year or two and go, yeah, all those teams that are now trying
57:59to pay and use three tight ends. Like that's actually some of the worst offenses that could be the case in like two or three years.
58:06And we're talking at the complete opposite where we have a bunch of roster clogger tight ends that are now losing snaps.
58:13Yeah. A hundred percent. And when we get there, we will adapt and we will change.
58:18Stay plugged in to get to that. Scott, thank you so much for coming on, man.
58:23Why don't you take a minute here? Tell everybody, all the listeners where they can find you and what you're working on, man.
58:30Well, first off, thank you to both of you for doing this series.
58:34Continue with it. I think this is the future of dynasty.
58:37There's going to be more players coming into dynasty than ever before.
58:41You know, as sleeper expands, as some of the platforms start to incorporate dynasty, but we also know like the dynasty.
58:47I know when I first started playing in 2013, it doesn't exist anymore.
58:51It is very much a immediate gratification. I want a game that I can play right now.
58:56I don't want to have to set a lineup.
58:59I don't want to have to do a lot of tedious management.
59:03And that leads towards best ball that leans towards vanilla settings where it's just best ball, but they call it dynasty.
59:09So I think that's the future of the game.
59:12We talk a lot about it on our community over at dd fantasy football.com.
59:16We have a discord. We have a brand new website that's coming out here on right around the 1st of August.
