1:18I'm back. Joining me today, the guest is so nice.
1:21We brought him back twice. Be back. Oh, sweet.
1:24Baby. Sweet Prince, let them know who you are.
1:26Dad. Everybody, appreciate y'all for pulling up to the party.
1:29It is the savvy one, Mr. Sports Savvy himself.
1:32Find me on said platform, on the tube, on the TikTok, on the Twitter machine, aka X for the youngsters.
1:38Let's get this party started. Yeah. Appreciate that, Steve.
1:41We got a kind of a hot roll coming in.
1:44We got some steam coming in, man. Fresh off of our interview with a PlayerProfiler.
1:48Hey, by the way. He's talking about we. I wasn't there.
1:51We. We. Oh, we speak fresh now. Shout out to my dog, Joseph.
1:55Come on, Steve. That's championship behavior, isn't it? Here.
1:58Let's go ahead. Hit him with it. Hit him with the champion.
2:01I had to bring this on my phone. He out here.
2:05Listen, he out here. Y'all clapping up on himself real fast.
2:08First of all, he out here buzzing moves. I was like, it's only right that we bring the championship special in here.
2:14And if you guys didn't see, he is talking about our interview with Matt Kelly on Player Profiler.
2:20We are now a proud partner of Player Profiler.
2:22Thank you very much. We appreciate you. We're going to be using your stats all year long.
2:27In honor of that, Frank, hit him with the lights.
2:30All right. We are lighted up in blue in honor of Player Profiler.
2:34But without further ado, we're going to go ahead and jump into it for y'all, man.
2:39What are we doing, Steve? Roster construction. It's very often overlooked for some reason.
2:43Everyone wants to talk about, you know, rankings and stats and which player they're going to take in the first round.
2:49Talk to them. But ain't none of that matter if you don't know how to build a roster.
2:54Player. It's true. And especially, like, we've been doing this so long at this point, man.
2:59Like, we just get in and we know what we're doing.
3:02But for, like, a lot of you, if it's your first time playing fantasy, you might not know how to build a team.
3:09Like, going into these drafts this summer, you're like, who do I pick?
3:13Like, how am I building a roster? You might just, like, see you need to fill roster spots.
3:18Like, okay, I'm just going to go quarterback, running back, running back, and draft in that order.
3:23If you want to win and you want to have fun with fantasy, we're going to help you out today.
3:29I, uh, you know what's crazy about you saying that?
3:32I know a person who, uh, when they first came in, that's how they drafted.
3:37They just looked at their, uh, they looked at their starting lineup and went down and filled the starting lineup.
3:43But if you think about that, like, if they get the right quarterback, it could pay off.
3:48Because there's going to be good running backs in the second and third round.
3:52Yeah. I mean, there's going to be good wide receivers in the fourth and fifth round.
3:56I'm not saying. There's going to be a superstar tight end in the sixth round.
4:01It happens. But, like, if you're going for consistency.
4:03If you're going for consistency in every spot. And not even that, but across multiple different fantasy scoring platforms.
4:09So, whether it's PPR, whether it's a dynasty, whether you're talking tight end premium or anything like that.
4:14Like, if you're new, like, a lot of that's probably, like, over your head.
4:19And you're like, what the hell is he talking about?
4:22But, like. A little bit of it's over my head.
4:24There's different scoring formats. And you're, like, tight end premium.
4:27And that's kind of just, like, a branch of PPR.
4:30It's just your tight ends get an extra receiving point for each reception.
4:34So, it boosts their value. Kind of like how PPR does for wide receivers and receiving backs.
4:39Exactly. Which is why Trey McBride is, like, a first round tight end in tight end premium lineups.
4:45Touche. That part. The more you know. What we're trying to do is help you get set up so that year after year after year.
4:52Doesn't matter what league you're in, what the scoring format is.
4:55You can be competitive and you can win championships.
4:58That's a fact. I think I'm going on, what, six in the last five years now.
5:03You've got, like, two. I'm fresh off one. Yep.
5:05It's like, we're. We got what we're doing here.
5:08Currently a defending champ. Yeah. So, we got five little outlines today for you.
5:12We're going to keep it real simple. Keep it organized.
5:15We'll have descriptions in the timeline for you. But, yeah.
5:18Without further ado. Let's get this party started, ladies and gentlemen.
5:21Where we at, my boy? Talk to me. Step one.
5:24Call them steps or what are you going to call them?
5:27We'll call them steps. Yeah. We'll call them steps.
5:30We'll call them steps. You know. Got to take a step at a time.
5:34Wow. We will do our best to keep this as service level or maybe one level under the surface as possible.
5:40This is really your basic starter pack. Yeah. From our point of view, if you will.
5:45If that makes sense. And this is something I like to go back every year and kind of like refresh myself on as well.
5:52Because when you're in multiple leagues, you kind of like, you just get used to it and you become numb to news and all these other things.
6:00So, going back and just make, oh yeah, yeah.
6:03I remember this. In the comments, tell us how many leagues you guys are in.
6:07Me, currently, four. Yeah. I think four is kind of my max.
6:11I usually do like three, three to four. But like I said, step number one, know your league and know your scoring.
6:17Yes. Anytime I join a new league, the first thing that I do is go right to the scoring system.
6:23Yeah. Because you've got to, that is probably one of the biggest keys that gets slept on, in my opinion, on drafting
6:30your team that's going to be elite for what you're looking for.
6:33Yeah. Because if you don't know how, if you're just position hunting, it's got, so in my opinion, you can position hunt with a combination of score hunt.
6:41If I'm keeping it basic. Like. Yeah. Some of your middle name, I'll say not as big name players are going to
6:48be better scores than even some of your favorite players.
6:51Yeah. And like I said, when you go into your leagues, whether it's ESPN or Sleeper or any of these other platforms
6:57you're playing on, go into league settings, check the scoring.
7:00Like, is it PPR? Your receiver is going to get an extra point for each catch.
7:05In Kwan's league that he runs, he does an extra point, a tenth of a point for each rushing attempt.
7:11Like every league's a little bit different. Just talk to your commissioner, know if there's any special rule changes.
7:17Is it standard scoring? Is it PPR? Is it half point PPR?
7:20Get your basics down. So you know what you're going into.
7:23Cause rankings don't mean nothing. If you got the wrong scoring system.
7:27That's a fact. Yeah. If you don't know how you're making, if you don't know how you're scoring points, then what does
7:33it mean that you're looking at rankings? Yeah. For just a quick example, like Derek Henry is a perfect example for running
7:40backs who in non standard scoring leagues, Derek Henry is like a first round, second round quality running back.
7:45But because he doesn't get a lot of reception work in PPR formats, his value gets pushed down because he doesn't get that extra work.
7:53Wow. Whereas guys like Devon Achan, Chase Brown, Jameer Gibbs.
7:56That's why you see running backs like that in the first and second round.
8:00Yeah. I forgot. You got his Atlanta love. Don't forget.
8:03Peace up. Plus. Hey, town down. Yeah. So those running backs, that's why you see like know your formats, man, because your rankings will slightly adjust.
8:11Not a lot, but the chance changes a little bit when they're not giving you that extra for really.
8:16So receivers and running backs really get extra just for touching the ball.
8:20Yeah. So unless they drop it. Yeah. I do like the, those leagues that actually penalize receivers for drops.
8:26Now that gets interesting. See, I like that too.
8:28That gets interesting. I want to get into a league.
8:31That's, that's probably it. Cause that's along the lines of the tight end premium style.
8:36Yeah. Yep. Similar. I think there should be points awarded for penalties on DST.
8:40That's interesting. Not a lot, but like 0.1 or something like that for every penalty yard.
8:44Because sometimes those effects though. I never thought about that.
8:47I think that would be fun. I never thought about that.
8:51Like if your defense gets a pass interference call, it's like takes away points.
8:55I think that'd be cool. But anyways. Shutting down.
8:57Yeah. Yeah. Um, but for step one, man, that's kind of about it is just know your system.
9:03Um, some of the stuff here, no one here that says don't draft based on rankings.
9:08Yeah. Um, I will piggyback on that real fast for some basic knowledge.
9:11Don't draft based on rankings until after you know your league scoring system.
9:15Yeah. There are places where you can put an entire league into a thing and it'll give you rankings based on the settings of your league.
9:23Hey, shout out player profiler. Check out the website.
9:26Shout out player profiler. I'll have the link in the description for y'all.
9:29Yep. Um, but some other little things before we get into the next step, it's just like little vocabulary things like PPR.
9:36If you don't know what PPR is, it's a point per reception.
9:39So every time your receiver gets a point, Hey point.
9:42Yep. Like he said in my league point. Yeah.
9:45Like you said in my league, um, it means, it means points per reception and it also means points per rush.
9:51Yeah. So which was a nice change. I actually like it, especially for your Russian quarterbacks.
9:56It makes it even more valuable. Yeah. Everybody in that league.
9:59I, uh, my, my personal example, there's going to be some less or deeper level fans that listen, but, uh, you know what I'm about to say?
10:07March action. Yeah. Every year. If Lamar Jackson's there for me at the end, if I'm the end of the second round
10:14guy, like last year, I was like the number two pick.
10:17So you're talking about in your league specifically with the boosted rushing about the boosted point one for the Russian.
10:23Yep. So in my league is point one for it's point one for everything.
10:27So like receivers are more watered down because I felt like there was more of them at the time.
10:33And that's why I did that. Not wrong. But, uh, now that running backs are at much more of a premium, I've
10:39had thoughts of switching the scoring system. We'll talk about that at a later date.
10:43Okay. But, uh, yeah, Lamar Jackson is my favorite case of fully healthy Lamar Jackson with that Russian upside.
10:49I wish I would let him get past the second round.
10:52I mean, I think I've seen you take him four years in a row.
10:56At this point, if you've got a Lamar Jackson tattoo, like I wouldn't be surprised around and I'm saying it on purpose in the second round.
11:04It's like you live and die by Lamar over there.
11:07You better believe it. You know what? Lamar Jackson was my two first picks in the draft last year.
11:13It's like Lamar is taking a fourth quarter potty break.
11:16Quan's taking a fourth quarter potty break. You better believe it.
11:19Yep. We all signed. Are we in? We in?
11:22We in? We'll be back at three minutes left in the game and we're going to win.
11:27We're going to win. And he's going to score 12 fantasy points.
11:30Uh-huh. That goddamn part. All right. But in your regular scoring, uh, rushing is not rewarded.
11:35And touchdown passes are only four points. That's another thing.
11:38In most standard leagues, yeah. They get point one for the rushing and, uh, touchdown pass are six.
11:43Yeah. So it's like quarterbacks and running backs get a little bit of a fluff.
11:47It changes your whole strategy. Mm-hmm. Uh, we won.
11:50I think I watched in our draft last year, um, Jamar Chase went first.
11:54Yeah. And then there was like seven or eight running backs in a row.
11:58Yep. Before the next receiver went. And then seven or eight more.
12:02By the time we got to the third round, we was in like fourth or fifth tier.
12:07Yeah. It was, it was bad. It was, and it's going to be.
12:11Like, I, I, it actually made me happy that I, that it felt like my league did more research than normal that year.
12:18Yep. And I won that, by the way. Respect.
12:20I'm just throwing that out there. Yep. Like, the fact that they knew that the running backs was going to be doing
12:27what they was doing or they had did the same research that I did that led them to said suggestion.
12:33Mm-hmm. And running backs was at a premium by the fourth round.
12:36You had to, you had to go get you somewhere I received because it wasn't really nothing good.
12:41You was looking at that muck like, uh, JK Dobbins.
12:44Yeah. Uh-huh. You're just like, uh, I'm trying to think of another bad one.
12:49Ja'Kory Krosky-Mirrett. Uh. All right. With that being said, know your rules before you draft your players.
12:54We're going to go ahead and take a quick break.
12:57We will be right back. Are all batteries the same?
12:59That's like asking if all soccer players are the same.
13:02Take Messi, the most decorated player ever. Is there any other player who has achieved that?
13:07No. Just him. Now take Duracell. Is there any other battery with power boost ingredients inside?
13:12No. Just Duracell. Remember, goats only trust goats because they're built different.
13:15And Messi only trusts Duracell. Pays Checkout is offered by your banks and credit unions.
13:20So when you shop online at participating merchants, your cards appear in one place, ready to use, and kept up to date.
13:26And the best part, your actual card number isn't shared when you check out.

13:33One small step for boundaries. One big leap for checkout.
13:36Pays, it checks out. Activation required. See Pays.com to learn more.
13:40Terms and conditions apply. Jumping right back into things again.
13:43Starting with step number two. Step two. Baby steps, man.
13:46One foot in front of the other. A little bit at a time.
13:49You know, slow and steady wins the race. The turtle taught me that.
13:53Uh-huh. We know our rankings. We know our scoring format.
13:56Yeah. We might even have a team name picked out right now.
14:00I do. You? Actually. Do you have one picked out for this year?
14:04Yeah. What you got? The champ is here. Oh, really?
14:06Boo. Yeah. Right down with everyone. Boo. Boo. I burned from my dog because he's on the championship behavior.
14:12It is. Hey. You know what? You got yours.
14:15I got mine in Willie's Metro League last year.
14:17Yeah. So, I mean, he's going to hear. We're not competitive.
14:21Hey. He can hear about this chip. He gets on me all the time about what happened during the draft in his league.
14:27So, you got to hear about this type. Uh-huh.
14:30That part. It's okay. Appreciate it. You know what?
14:33I'll eat it. It's all right. Competition never dies.
14:35No, it does not. He's going to come back strong.
14:38With that being said, build a strong core is step number two, man.
14:42So, when we draft. That's a good one, too, by the way.
14:46A lot of the times we want to, especially when we're new to this, we want to draft quarterbacks because they score the most points.
14:53But that's not how you want to build a championship roster.
14:56Yes, quarterbacks score the most points. But if you value quarterback, you lose so much value at every other position that it
15:03puts you at a disadvantage all season long. The man preaching right now.
15:07So, when I say build a strong core, we are talking about running backs and wide receivers specifically or elite quarterbacks and elite tight ends.
15:14Now, we're speaking in a general sense here. Yes.
15:17By the way. Fantasy, elite. I would probably say this a lot in this.
15:21Every single league is different. Unless they just came in and clicked okay all the way down, then they'll have every basic scoring setting.
15:28Yeah. But I know that there's something different about the way I score.
15:32I know there's something different about the way that he scores.
15:35That one dynasty league scores different than that other dynasty league.
15:38Everybody got something different going on. And that's why we're laying this out for you.
15:43So, it doesn't matter what you're in. You know, okay, this is what I need to do.
15:48These are the steps to succeed. So, I mean, unless you're in.
15:51You guys are listening to the same people we're listening to probably for the most part.
15:56Yeah, I think we're early enough in the year.
15:59They're going to have the same general idea. So, how do you differentiate what's really going to work?
16:04Yeah. I mean. For you. And if you guys like this, like, tutorial video, I mean, we can get deeper into roster
16:10strategy, draft strategy, zero RB, all that sweaty stuff.
16:13But, I mean, we're just kind of. It's actually harder to keep it basic because we're so in-depth.
16:18Yeah. So, this is a fun little challenge right now.
16:21Like, trying to, like, not dig deep. Yeah. It was like to go back and put yourself in, like, all right, I don't know anything about fantasy football.
16:30What do I want to know? Yeah. But, yeah.
16:32I mean, these are, like, the steps. If someone had told me, like, the first 10 years I was playing versus the
16:39last 10 years, I'd probably have five more championships under my belt at this point.
16:43I definitely co-turk it when I showed up and just so happy.
16:47I stumbled into a title because I was broken with a whole bunch of other people who had never done fantasy before as well.
16:54Yep. So, when we're talking about building the core, like, yeah, you can draft Josh Allen in the first round.
17:00My wife does it every year. I was going to say, we know somebody who do that.
17:05Hey. Shout out to you, P-Lock. Yep. She drops him every year.
17:08She won in the jersey for Christmas. I mean, she's in the playoffs every year.
17:13But you know how many championships she's won? One.
17:15Zero. She got second last year. She's the asterisk champion right now.
17:19That's okay. Yeah. But, yeah. She got second. But, I mean, like, it puts you at such a disadvantage because, yeah, you can have quarterback one.
17:27But you'll have RB8, RB15, wide receiver six. I would rather have RB1, RB4, wide receiver three, wide receiver five, quarterback four.
17:33You are at quarterback four later on. Yeah. And, of course, we'll get into roster construction and that.
17:38But, yeah. Running backs and wide receivers. Running backs specifically.
17:41I'm a big proponent of drafting running backs early and often.
17:45I am a robust running back drafter. I'm not sure about you.
17:48You're kind of the same way. It depends on your format, though.
17:52It depends on where we are. Yeah. I know.
17:54I like to have one by the second round no matter what.
17:58Be a running back? Yeah. Yeah. Always. Especially when you're drafting, man.
18:01You kind of want a draft balanced. Well, for me, you know, I'm going to my league.
18:06I'm going on season 12. Yeah. We've been doing it for a minute now.
18:11I usually have two core pieces that I want to start with.
18:14I don't know who they are. I just got to figure out what's going to come to me.
18:19And then I read the board after that and see what people are taking.
18:24But, yeah. I mean, especially once you get into, like, because your leagues aren't done when your draft's done.
18:29At all. You can't win the league in a draft, but you can lose it.
18:34Yeah. Part. So, by drafting running backs and wide receivers early, by building a solid core and foundation, you're setting yourself up
18:40for success for the entire season because there's going to be injuries.
18:44People are going to drop players. Waivers are going to happen.
18:47Oh, my God. You want to have options. I have so many stories on drop players that I could have won a title with.
18:54Yep. You want to have options on your bench in case something happens with injuries.
18:58And you want quality depth. You don't want third string running backs that you have no business starting at all sitting on
19:05it because you're never going to start them. What he means to say is you don't want third string running backs that don't get field time.
19:13Exactly. If you ended up with, who's a good example of something that I could think of?
19:18Somebody who touched the field that will be explosive when they're on the field but doesn't touch the field much.
19:23Jaden Blue. Oh, Keaton Mitchell. That one, too. That's a good one.
19:27I said Jaden Blue. That's a good one, too.
19:30Justice Hill. Mitchell saw more field time than most people that I thought of.
19:34Yeah, Keaton Mitchell was popping up last year. However, he's a running back three on his own team.
19:39He didn't score for me very well. So he was just sitting down there and I'm like, damn, if I drop him, he going to go for 20.
19:47And so I just looked at him down there, not ever scoring 10.
19:51But yeah. You're one time scoring 12 and being like, damn, see, that's the potential.
19:56Yep. So each one of your roster spots has a value.
19:59And the less value you put in there, the less value your team has.
20:03Which so. It's a fine balance of star power value and upside.
20:07Yep. Thank you. Balanced construction. Yeah. This is how we win championships, people.
20:10Anything else to add on top of that? Anything for you?
20:14Anything specifically from other leagues? As far as roster construction?
20:17Well, as far as keeping balance or anything like that.
20:20So. Because I know some people like to go wide receiver heavy.
20:23I would throw in the super flex conversation. Yeah.
20:26Right now. So super flex, if you don't know, is normally there's one flex spot which can be filled by running back, wide receiver, tight end.
20:33However, a super flex spot is an additional flex spot that a quarterback can also fill as well.
20:39So it boosts the value of quarterbacks because there's so many more or so many less available on waivers.
20:44By the third round, do you have, you're in the third tier of quarterbacks?
20:48Yeah. Because I'm seeing in the first five picks, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Joe Burrow out of here.
20:54Yeah. Because in most startups, like super flex startups, quarterbacks are going to be the first things off the board, which I
21:01know is kind of what we said not to do.
21:04But in super flex leagues, like I said, know your system and know your scoring.
21:08People know that quarterbacks. Your rankings change a little bit.
21:11People are going to, people know that quarterbacks are going to end up scoring the most.
21:16Yep. So, you know, if you have a two quarterback league and, you know, you know, teams have to buy.
21:22And that's because. You have to cover for them.
21:24When there's two quarterbacks on each team, the dichotomy at quarterback becomes so much thinner that there's.
21:29Yeah. And that's too. So. So you want to make sure you load up and have depth on your rosters.
21:35But yeah, man, we're going to go ahead and jump right into the next step.
21:40Yeah. Now that we know scoring, we've got depth on our rosters.
21:43We want to know who to target in our drafts going in.

22:27There's no place like Chrome. Check responses set up required compatibility and availability varies 18 plus.
22:32And it doesn't matter what the format is. We want...
22:35It doesn't matter what the format is. It doesn't matter.
22:38Wayne Johnson voice. Appreciate that. Sorry, I had to get my plug in.
22:42It's going to be a meme and everything. I promise you, you're going to see it when I edit.
22:47Oh, I'm going to find a way to work Stone Cold Glass into something at some point.
22:52Real fast. Quick plug. Did you see the Varsity Blues plug yet?
22:56Yeah. Have you made it to that part of the last one?
23:00Oh, I did. I had to get my boy...
23:02You know what's funny? I thought I heard you say something when I recorded.
23:06I was like, Varsity Blues. And he was like, I had to get the Twitter reference in there.
23:12I was like, okay, he got it. He didn't pick it up.
23:15I was like, sweet. Definitely use that. Yeah, man.
23:18But yeah. Volume. We look for volume. See how easy it is for us to get distracted?
23:23Yeah. We've been doing this for a long time.
23:26Volume. When we're looking at depth and we're trying to draft players, we want volume on our rosters.
23:31Players that get targeted. Players that are on the field.
23:34Facts. You want to know. You want to know that this is the...
23:38Specifically in your standard scoring leagues. I'll start there.
23:40Yeah. Touches is king because touches equals yards. Yep.
23:43And all you... Points. It's a basic scoring system over there.
23:46It's yards and touchdowns. This is a crazy concept.
23:49The more you touch the ball, the more you score.
23:52The more you have of the potential to score.
23:54I mean, it's kind of... They got to stop you, but if you get opportunities...
23:59I mean, it's a square peg in a square hole, but it's that damn simple.
24:03Draft players who get targets and opportunities, and you will be okay.
24:07Know who the quarterbacks trust. Yep. And that's how...
24:09That's also, you know, looking forward a little bit when we project sleepers and breakouts and things like that.
24:15That's essentially what we're looking for in those double-digit rounds.
24:18Are the players that we might not focus on who are getting those opportunities, who are getting touches, who are getting a bigger target share on each team.
24:26So I'm... For my second-level fans, think... Yeah. Think Austin Eckler.
24:30Your PPR monsters. Think... I'm trying to think of a good one.
24:33What's up? We'll go farther back in time. Think Brian Westbrook for the Eagles.
24:37Uh-huh. I'm digging into my archives right now. Your white gym rats?
24:41Yeah. Going back that far. Yep. You know what I'm saying?
24:44Scrappy players. So think... Let me see if I can get a current day reference that's pretty good.
24:49Just people who... Think Tyler Algier in Atlanta. When he was...
24:53Yeah. He's gonna... He touches the ball, and it's five to seven yards a carry.
24:57So in two touches, in my league, that's 1.2 points.
25:00Oh, he's not in Atlanta anymore. I don't. Oh, yeah.
25:03Oh, you said from... When he came to Atlanta.
25:06He hasn't played a down for his own either.
25:08He's still down bad. He misses them. It's a little bit I do.
25:12Yeah. That was a great... Sorry. B-John ain't been smiling the same since he left.
25:16I'm holding Brian Robinson Jr. to a high standard because of Tyler Algier.
25:20Yep. Tyler Algier. Appreciate you, sir. Sad. I miss you, my boy.
25:24You do good out there. But yeah, things we look at.
25:27Targets, touches, route participation. Red zone work. I know red zone works, especially in touchdown-only leagues.
25:32You'll see some of those around, too. Like your league, I value touchdowns more in your league specifically because your scoring system is so specific.
25:39Touchdowns account for a lot more. That's a fact.
25:42But snap share also. The biggest chunk you can get is a touchdown.
25:46Yeah. And when you're looking at your rookies and your sophomores, you want to see that increase in snap share after year.
25:52So, like I said, volume and opportunity are what we look for when targeting players later in these drafts.
25:58Last show, we talked, we were a little bit more in-depth.
26:01We were talking about it. Hey, plug to the last show.
26:04We were talking. If you ain't watching, go ahead and watch it.
26:08Go ahead. Go ahead and watch that. There's an episode on each of our platforms, by the way.
26:13Two different versions. Yep. Go catch both of those.
26:16Mine's way longer than his because, you know, I put all the extra.
26:20Uh-huh. Steve B. trimming the fat. I chop and screw it.
26:23Yep. But we were talking about our potential sleepers from the draft and the guy that I brought up, it was because
26:29his other backfield mates aren't even like the same stature of running back as him.
26:34Mm-hmm. There's going to be somebody who's got to get those two yards at the end of the drive, right?
26:40That's the type of stuff we're speaking on just to keep wrapping back around to the basic.
26:45Like, you want to know who they have on the field, especially like if it's a running team.
26:50What running back do they trust when it's third and goal from the two?
26:54Yeah. You want to know what identifiers to keep an eye out for?
26:58That kind of stuff. Like, just, that's just a little example as a one layer deeper, but, uh.
27:03I mean, just for an example, like Cam Scadabo, who we knew last year was probably going to be touchdown dependent.
27:10I love him. But he was on a running team.
27:12I bet against the touchdowns, which, you know, that's my personal take.
27:16But I knew the opportunity was there. Yeah. I decided not to bet on it.
27:20Lil' Bolinbaugh. It worked out pretty well if you did.
27:23Lil' Bolinbaugh be trying to run through him. Yep.
27:26That's how Mike Allstott ran, man. Yeah. That's exactly what he reminds me of.
27:30It was like Allstott, Pacheco, Kittle. That's his nickname.
27:33Lil' Bolinbaugh? Dynasty team. Y'all calling him Lil' Bolinbaugh.
27:36He's trying to run over. He don't care. Like Mighty Mouse, man.
27:39Uh-huh. Remember y'all, man? Yup. People like a pancake.
27:42The WWE Bushwhackers. Anything else to cover when we're talking about volume?
27:45Volume? I mean, being on the field. That's his route.
27:48Yeah. I will say this. We haven't touched on injuries yet.
27:51But certain players do have a tendency to be injured.
27:54My advice with this is sometimes availability is the best ability, especially when we want dependency.
27:59That's a fact. You can't get any reps if you're not on the field.
28:03Exactly. So, I mean, injuries happen. I try not to take them into account too much when I'm doing my rankings.
28:09Specifically, sometimes they do affect it a little bit.
28:12Like, for instances, if it's a habitual issue, like for Christian McCaffrey, I know when he gets a lot of work, usually
28:19the following year, it's usually not as good. I have Christian McCaffrey PTSD.
28:22Yup. And a lot of people do. And I have taken advantage over that the last four years in a row.
28:29I watched him be the number one running back in fantasy last year.
28:32And he was there for me, too. Yup. And I took Jameer Gibson instead in the league.
28:37Uh-huh. Who was like number two. So, I guess I really didn't do that bad.
28:42But then I ended up trading him. We'll get back into all that.
28:46So. But my Christian McCaffrey PTSD of the injury thing that he's talking about, when I tell you that I will look
28:52at him and be right there and available and sexy and shiny and not hurt.
28:57You get that feeling. And I'm like, nah, I drafted him.
29:00He was in this spot before. And he started first two weeks of the season, number one in fantasy.
29:06Number one in fantasy for the rest of the year.
29:08And I'm like, I know he was about to win us one.
29:12And you want to know why he was number one in fantasy?
29:16We talked about it last year. He had 100 receptions.
29:19I had 100 catchers. Jesus. Greg. That's more than most wide receivers.
29:22He was seventh. Yeah. Most starting wide receivers. Across the league.
29:25That's with all wide receivers included. As a running back.
29:28As a running back. That's the type of volume you want to hunt for.
29:32Yep. And that's why these running backs go on the first round.
29:36The three down volume workhorse running backs go on the first and second rounds.
29:40Because they get opportunities and because they get volume.
29:43Christian McCaffrey has returned to alien status. Yeah. The man is healthy.
29:46Ladies and gentlemen, you can go ahead and judge him as a healthy human.
29:50Appreciate that. Until he isn't. He's back. Judge him as so.
29:54Derek Henry too. Yep. Watch out for the drop off on that if you do dynasty.
29:58But as long as the train is chugging along, you better not miss that ride.
30:03Yep. I'll leave that there. And then especially with wide receivers, I look for targets more than receptions.
30:08Facts. Fact. Opportunities. Yep. Because targets are earned. Receptions are, you know, you have to get them.
30:13But targets are earned. You have to get open in order to get targeted.
30:17So your better wide receivers are often targeted more.
30:20And you often see like a 20% target share is what you want to see on teams.
30:2518 is okay. But you want to see at least a 20% target share.
30:29I'm going for the, uh, I'm going for the X receiver in a Kyle Shanahan offense.
30:34Yeah. Please and thank you. Or you can be.
30:36That's a little bit deep. Like the insanity that JSN was last year.
30:40It was like 32% target share. I was aware of what that young man was going to do before he was on my championship team.
30:48You know, I would just like to flex a little bit.
30:51That was my third round pick. Jackson Smith and Jake.
30:54Mine too. You know what? I got to pull them out and whip it out real quick on these Metro idiots.
31:00Yeah. They let me draft Christian McCaffrey in the first round from the four spot.
31:04You did let him do that. Came around. That's still real high for me, but I see why you did it now.
31:11Yeah. And then I forget who my RB2 was.
31:14I drafted JSN in the third round and then drafted Drake May in the 10th round to pair with a Mecca Egbuka.
31:20Drake May in the 10th round is the craziest of work.
31:23So I had the number one quarterback, number one running back, number one wide receiver.
31:28Y'all can suck it. I told you all to watch this show.
31:31Nerds. All right. With that being said, we're going to go ahead and jump into our last break here.
31:37Ladies and gentlemen. We feel better now. Sometimes you just got to put flex on them, man.
31:42All right. You got to flex on them a little bit.
31:45Hey. Don't I know it? I brought the belt today, ladies and gentlemen.
31:49I'm right there with you. All right. We'll be right back.
31:52All right. We are back. Baby. My voice. Yep.
31:55Can't forget about the savvy crew out there. Hey, I'm coming for a title this year.
32:00Y'all better get ready. They're waiting for me to lose.
32:03I'm the champ. I will say this. Don't forget.
32:05So you talked about how last year in the draft, it went Jamar Chase and then running back, running back, running back.
32:12I was on the 12th spot on the one, two turn.
32:15So I went wide receiver knowing exactly the situation I was in.
32:19And I was like, all right, well, Justin Jefferson is here.
32:22I like the upside at the last pick. It was all downhill from there, man.
32:26Like not having a running back in that league sucked.
32:29Sucked. And. Okay. It's my league. That's got me traumatized about having a running back by the second round and every other.
32:36Yep. And that was. Whatever PPR machine is still available in that second round pick.
32:40That's my strategy. Every draft I go into. And you unfortunately were the recipient of a lot of the headaches.
32:46I was like, hey, I need somebody on my wrist.
32:49Like just the conversations about like who I'm even thinking about picking up just to have a shot at anybody.
32:55And then we hit on players and they get injured the next goddamn series.
32:59I'm not even. All right. That's not what we're doing right now.
33:03All right. Next step. Step four. Step four. Step four.
33:05We're looking for volume. But in the later rounds, we're also looking for ceiling.
33:10We want to talk about embracing volatility. You want to win championships.
33:13You don't want to finish in third place. Also known as upside.
33:17Ladies and gentlemen. Yes. That's what we're talking about here.
33:20The potential to be more than what has been sold to you is what we're speaking of.
33:25Exactly. Absolutely. League winners. I want to. Breakouts. I want to say I want to league off upside.
33:30Sleepers. Because let's talk about George Pickens real fast.
33:33Ah, yeah. All right. I already gave my George Pickens apology.
33:36You get one, sir. That's it. I'm not apologizing.
33:39I was wrong. I do not have to apologize.
33:41It is okay. I do not. I am a truther.
33:44By the way. Hey. No big deal. Appreciate that.
33:47Y'all know who I am. Should have known. But I was a.
33:50I've been a George Pickens truther since his freshman year in college.
33:54I saw the talent then when we was losing Alabama by two or three points.
33:58Bulldog. That's when we had George Pickens. And there was one receiver that they couldn't stop.
34:03And it was that guy. And we finally got the chance to be number one in a good system that threw to the wide receiver a lot.
34:11And he was top ten. Thank you, George Pickens.
34:14Yep. Shout out to you, George Pickens. I tried to tell them.
34:17They didn't want to listen to you, boy. I was on your side the whole time.
34:22And we all get these flex moments, right? This is mine.
34:25I tried to tell y'all about George Pickens. Yes.
34:28Nobody wanted to listen to me. I was like, it's going to go real, real good out there in Dallas for that man.
34:35Then CD got hurt. Now everybody want George Pickens.
34:37That was the part. Yep. Now everybody want George Pickens.
34:40I was like, well, you all knew the talent was there.
34:43You watched him play in Pittsburgh, didn't you? Mm-hmm.
34:46Just because he couldn't deal with whatever was going on on the sidelines and in the locker room doesn't mean the talent wasn't borderline elite.
34:54Yeah. I was going back and kicking myself for not looking harder at Dak Prescott because he was another one of those
35:00quarterbacks that we've seen give you top five value going in double-digit rounds.
35:04Oh, yeah. He was top five last year, too.
35:06Appreciate you. And we should have known that with CD healthy and with getting Pickens.
35:11I think the offense scared me because of the running back situation, but I should have known better.
35:16Yeah. Dak top five. Appreciate you. That's another one that I was a truth on.
35:21I'm not trying to listen to none of y'all.
35:23Like we said. Dak Prescott. I told y'all top five.
35:26Opportunity and volume wins you championships, but we're drafting for stealing.
35:30And like a lot of that you'll find in the double-digit rounds.
35:33And you find that by finding these players. Perfect segue.
35:36When you said double-digit round, did y'all hear my boy Steve say he got Drake May in the 10th round and Drake
35:42May was quarterback two at the end of the season last year?
35:46Oh, you know my thoughts on quarterback, man. I refuse to draft quarterbacks.
35:50This is his victory lap. Take your victory lap, sir.
35:53Yes. On Drake May in the 10th round. He won a title off of that.
35:57And I was high on Drake May back in April last year.
36:01And it was after Bo Nix had started going up in drafts because Bo Nix was my target last year.
36:07But when I went back and did the research, I was like, oh shit.
36:11Drake May had almost 500 rushing yards and his offense is about to get better.
36:15And I was like, it just, I was like, and he's going five rounds later than Bo Nix.
36:21A.K.A. Northeast Drizzy. That's what I call him. Coming off of a freshman year, going into this year two campaign.
36:26Like I liked what I saw. He was accurate.
36:29I liked everything about him. Like he was, I forget where I had him ranked.
36:34It might've been five last year, but he was up there for me.
36:37I took him in every single league. I've been saying this every show since we started talking.
36:42And, um, Drake, Drake May is going to be uncomfortably high in my quarterback rankings for some of y'all.
36:48I'm letting you know right now. I mean, he's top three in the rankings.
36:52So I'm not surprised at all. God. Uncomfortably high, ladies and gentlemen.
36:56The headache this year. I'm going to hear from Willie.
36:59I know what's going to happen. About? Kyler Murray.
37:01Oh, I'm on board. Because the value's there. I take him every year because the value's always there.
37:07Drake May first. I'm not drafting Drake May. I'll.
37:09It's going to be too hot for you. Yeah.
37:12I wouldn't draft. Like if I'm building a roster for me personally, I'm going running back wide receiver.
37:17Often. I'll go all the way into the eighth, ninth round, taking nothing but running backs, wide receivers.
37:23If I like, if a tight end. Pulled up on something great.
37:26Yeah. I feel that. If a tight end doesn't fall to me, like I'll just running back wide receiver, running back wide receiver.
37:33I'm not drafting quarterbacks in single digit rounds. I only draft quarterbacks high in my own league.
37:38So we talked about this last episode. If you didn't watch, I'll let you guys know again.
37:43Blue. Blue. How many quarterbacks in the top five last year were double digit round quarterbacks in drafts?
37:48Yeah. So we're talking about, you say out of the top five?
37:52Out of the top five quarterbacks. I know the answer.
37:55In fantasy football. How many were double digit round quarterbacks in our drafts last year?
37:59Four. Four out of your top five quarterbacks were, yeah.
38:02Four out of your top five quarterbacks. Who's Jimmy one?
38:05Josh Allen. Okay, cool. And then everybody else after that was a late round quarterback.
38:09Yep. Because it was what? Drake May. Drake May.
38:12Matthew Stafford. Matthew Stafford. Appreciate that, Dak. We just brought up.
38:15And who's the last one? We got who was number five, but it was somebody later.
38:20Yeah, my ring through. Might have been Bo. Bo was, I think, six.
38:24Six or seven. He was six. Yeah, I got to do that two episodes in a row.
38:29I had to do that. Damn, come on. Ruining our credibility here.
38:33But that short going to go off, though. Uh-huh.
38:35This, I like, so I'm looking inside the syllabus right now.
38:38Yeah. I like this that you wrote right here.
38:41I want to say this out loud. Okay. You are not trying to build a safe team.
38:46Nope. You are trying to build a championship team.
38:49No risk it. No biscuit. That's what the later rounds are for, ladies and gentlemen.
38:53Lottery tickets. But he's calling them upside rounds. That's what you pick up.
38:57Now, depending on how you play. Like, me personally, I say my kicker and defense for the last way down there somewhere.
39:03Everybody. That's streamable for me. That should be. Right?
39:06You know, if you're watching this channel, stream defenses.
39:09You don't have to stream. Stream defenses and kickers.
39:11No. Kickers and defenses should be your last picks and drafts.
39:15No. Don't get cute. Okay, cool. He can say stream them.
39:18Yeah. Stream them. Trust me. I stream. I mean, they are two of the most matchup dependent positions in fantasy.
39:24Unless you stumble on like a Seahawks defense like this lucky asshole did last year.
39:28We just keep bringing up. Yeah. So, when I'm telling y'all about these championship moves, he's telling you guys that we made championship moves.
39:35Like, getting Drake May in the 10th round, drafting Jensen in the third over there.
39:40I also drafted Jensen in the third in one of my leagues.
39:43And the reason we're doing this stuff is because of the steps that we previously laid out.
39:48They had opportunity. They have involvement. They're high upside.
39:51They're year two guys. This is like, when we're talking championships, this is how you do it.
39:56You build stability, but you also embrace volatility and upside.
39:59This is how we do it. My little Jordan mean.
40:02So much room for activities. Yeah. Yeah. I love it here.
40:05But yeah, ceiling. Don't forget, it's not a safe team.
40:08We want titles. Exactly. I want titles. I only play fantasy to win titles.
40:12Even when my first two years in the league was free, I still wanted to win because title.
40:18Those two titles count my title count. So, when I say I've been doing fantasy for 12 years and I got seven championships.
40:24Lucky. I got my first five years ago. So, it's been, yeah.
40:28That was the first one of the OG one.
40:31The one we just got was my first one in six years.
40:34Yeah, it's been. You've been on a little streak there.
40:37So, I was in a little decline. I've been close.
40:40I've been in some title games the last few years.
40:43Yep. Losing in the finals. Like, so I was slowly building, getting my little rhythm back.
40:48Once I found Whitefield, I told you. That's when I started clicking, remember?
40:52Yep. And then I had that 11-3 season in the OG league.
40:55That's when everybody got nervous. That was year two.
40:58You were in there. Yeah. Popped off on them.
41:00And then got knocked out in the playoffs. First round.
41:03That run. That's a cool shot. He won that.
41:06Appreciate that. But when we're drafting for ceiling, some things we want to look for.
41:10You brought it up earlier, like target share. We didn't really go into role expansion too much.
41:15But like a lot of your rookies, if you haven't watched football long enough, your rookies are getting like a significant year two bump.
41:23I think it's like 60% more is what their stats increase by for your rookie quarter or rookie players who have broken out.
41:29So you want to target year two opportunities because that's where the most value is at in drafts because they're going in eighth, ninth, tenth, double digit rounds.
41:38But they're going to get target value later that's comparable to these wide receivers and running backs in the first through fifth rounds.
41:44So you want to be able to target and look at key metrics.
41:48Metrics like, you know, participation, things like that. Role expansion issues.
41:51Yep. Are they on a new team? Did the coaching change?
41:55Is it a run based offense? I mean, this is just like this takes five minutes on the toilet, man.
42:01I forgot to show y'all that. My bad game.
42:03They can see a little bit of the shine.
42:06They can see the top. It's really in the camera over here.
42:09But yeah, I mean. I got y'all. These are just little things we can like just reading the news.
42:15Like you sit on the toilet for five minutes.
42:18You can win a fantasy championship every year. I check my fantasy team every time I sit on the toilet for more than five minutes.
42:25That's what I said. I'm not even going to lie to y'all.
42:29During the season, I don't go to the restroom without checking my fantasy team.
42:33I have a long, I used to have an alarm set.
42:36They was running. The waivers were clear. And they couldn't even be 30.
42:40They would wake up 30 minutes after the waivers clear.
42:43I had to set my alarm for 3.30 a.m.
42:45because I know that's when ESPN starts running waivers in the morning.
42:49But we own that. Yep. Especially like on Tuesday night when I'm about like waiting to pick somebody up.
42:55Yep. Because I have backup plans. Uh-huh. So I got to be ahead of them.
42:59If someone, yeah. If someone else drafts them, I need someone else to pick up.
43:03Yeah. Yeah. Uh-huh. But yeah, that's it. But it's like that over here though.
43:08Like we compete like that. It's happening. Like we sat in the loft in the middle of the night just to check waivers.
43:14I'm going to go to the bathroom. But I'm going to check this phone for us to see if these waivers cleared.
43:21These waivers cleared 45 minutes before these waivers cleared.
43:24So now I got to wake back up again an hour.
43:27Yeah. All that. But yeah, I mean, draft and going back to embracing volatility, like that's how you win championships.
43:33You don't win by being safe and having, you know, middle of the tier players on your entire roster.
43:38Yeah, maybe you put up 90 points a week.
43:41But if you can't put up 140 against me in a championship round, that 90 don't mean nothing.
43:46So you have to be able to identify these players, know your metrics you're looking for and build your rosters appropriately.
43:52Yep. As you get deeper into it, you, uh, like, uh, I think we talked about this earlier.
43:58You learn, we were talking about learning your league.
44:00One key that I brought up. I was like, if you're in a league long enough, you can pick up on the strategies of your league mates.
44:08Yeah. Know your league. Another key in knowing your league.
44:11Exactly. I was just telling him right now, I was like, I can, because I do the podcast on a regular.
44:18I know that I have a little bit of influence and I push on those nerves.
44:22Yup. I'll flick something out there into the atmosphere, have people jumping all over when I'm really looking at something else.
44:28I did that last year. That's how I got changed in.
44:32So when I'm on camera, like I'm, I don't care about sharing anything.
44:36I'll share everything who I got on my rosters.
44:38When I'm in the league and I'm texting you dumb dumbs, like I'm holding stuff close to the chest.
44:44Dumb dumbs. He's like, what do you think? Talk about us like that game.
44:48What do you think about Devon A-chan? He's like, oh, Devon A-chan.
44:51Man, he's kind of small. I don't know. He's got dependability issues.
44:55He's also. Yards per carry, number two in the league.
44:58Reception, 70 points. He's also their leading receiver. Exactly.
45:01But yeah. Know your league mates, man. That's what makes fantasy fun.
45:04That's why I love it so much. It's like.
45:07A lot of people that have been in my league for every season, one on our 12th year.
45:12There are people that have been in there since the beginning and never left.
45:16I mean, that's what makes this fun. That's why I built all this and started this is because I loved hanging out with you idiots so much.
45:24I wanted to do it every year. So. Steve's the bully.
45:27Thank you. Hey, I learned from the best. I love you too, Steve.
45:31Hey, I love y'all. You know, I love y'all.
45:34Say it every episode. Remember, like, like Steve and I, we, we, we worked in restaurant kitchens.
45:39Yeah. Hey, shout out to all my line cooks, man.
45:42So like, if you ain't holding it down, baby.
45:45Dang, this little banter ain't gonna never end. Man, we talk, we just, we talk like that with our boys.
45:51All day long. And girls. Yep. Because girls in the leagues too.
45:54This is part. Speaking of girls, ladies. Hey. I'm going to go ahead and plug this real fast.
45:59Ladies, fantasy can be for you too. For multiple years in a row before I won my championship, a lady was winning.
46:06Like, last year, my semifinals was me and three girls.
46:09Yeah. They really be out here doing this for real.
46:12But like, bumping him out in the, uh, in the first round.
46:15My old boy, Joey, who I made fun of in the whole championship.
46:19Oh man. Joey got salty, boy. Bumped him out in the first round.
46:23Like, these girls come to ball over here. Like.
46:26That boy be crying. And Joey, he ain't going to say nothing on this podcast either.
46:30He's not going to say anything in the comments.
46:33He's not. He's going to be quiet until like August.
46:36Joey. Yep. Uh, real fast. And I'll tag him in this too.
46:40Joey. He's quiet. Remember I won that championship last year, my boy.
46:43That's the salt in the wound right there. Sounds like crickets.
46:46Joey. I love you. But you got to watch this title.
46:50Like I said last year. Yep. That's why we play.
46:52Big champ over here. Appreciate that. And that's why we do this, man.
46:56Because it's fun. But yeah, I think it's going to bring us into our last little step we got for you.
47:03Staying flexible. It's about to be smoke. Ain't nothing but some shit I wrote about a rich ass.
47:08Yeah, Utah. We're staying flexible. Like I said, you talked about it earlier.
47:12When you're in your drafts, like you'll see a lot of things on like Bleacher Report or ESPN.
47:17Like go into your zero RB draft. Go into a hero RB, wide receiver, like draft balance.
47:22Don't go into a draft thinking this is how I'm going to draft.
47:26You will have so many headaches. You get so tilted.
47:29You're going to have a frustrating time. I told y'all when we were talking about it earlier.
47:34That's why I only go in. I go in with the only strategy that I actually have is positional.
47:39Yeah. Like to start out. So in a full PPR, I'm getting a wide receiver in the first round.
47:45But because of my RB trauma, I'm getting a running back in the second round.
47:49May that be the wrong strategy for whatever league I'm in?
47:53Absolutely. But I'm scared. Yeah. I'm just I'm telling y'all that.
47:56Like that's my own personal. So I'm scared that if I wait till the third round for a running back, I'm not
48:02going to get one that's good enough. And that's my RB one.
48:06Another thing that's great about this is you can build your rosters however you want.
48:10You don't have to take our advice. Yeah. He doesn't take my advice at all.
48:15Exactly. Like I'm telling you how I win championships when it comes to fantasy because it's easy for me to remember and to do over multiple leagues.
48:23We don't draft anywhere close to the same. We both be in the playoff.
48:27Yeah. And I my strategy work for me, his strategy work for him.
48:31And then when you do four leagues and we have our rankings done, so we all of our rankings are definitely write
48:37them down before I put them in. But when we are in four different leagues and all four of our rosters are
48:44different, all four scoring systems are different. We have a couple of guys we look at and target like are my guys
48:50like Jalen Waddle's a my guy this year. Yeah.
48:53But besides that, our rosters are pretty different across each platform in each league because we're drafting on value and what comes to us.
49:00We're not going into drafts looking for, oh, I need a wide receiver in the first round.
49:05Can you do me a favor? What you need?
49:08Can you come up with a new name for your guy that you're riding with?
49:12Can I call it what somebody else calls it?
49:15A my guy? Not right now. I'm just saying for the future.
49:18I think everyone calls them my guys though. Matthew Berry calls it a ride or die.
49:23Ride or die. That's a good one too. All right.
49:26In the comments, let us know what we should call our my guys, our ride or dies.
49:31I'm just trying to figure out what you can.
49:34We on your show right now. Oh, yeah. They already know.
49:37They already know. We lock in. We locked in.
49:40Farm superstar. Farm superstars. Yeah. Farm superstars. Yeah. What you mean?
49:43No, we'll figure out a name. Let me know in the comments if you guys have any suggestions.
49:48It won't be PS. It'll be PPS. Potential platform superstar.
49:51Ah, okay. Jumping back in to stay inflexible. Anything else you want to add in?
49:55How do you draft? I see on the note right here you said adapt to a room.
50:01That's my, for me, after all this time, and I've been in, oh my God, so many.
50:06I've done drafts on the clock. I've done multiple drafts at the same time.
50:10Yep. Like, all these things, right? I've drafted on the clock before.
50:13I feel like. Thanks, Aldi's. You have to know, or you have to learn.
50:17It's a good quality to have to learn how to read whatever draft room you're in.
50:22Yeah. Like, our competition is so strong because we've been doing this in the same space for a long time.
50:28I've been putting this on the internet for, this is about a fifth year now.
50:32Yeah. Right? So, like, for his invested, he'll watch my episode before every week starts.
50:37So, when I lay out my potential game plans and all that, I got somebody who's going to see my whole strategy laid out for the people.
50:45It don't matter. Be able to move around that.
50:47Right? If I'm going to deliver informed analysis, like.
50:50You have to be flexible. So, one of the things that I feel like people don't do when it comes to that is read the draft room.
50:58So, this is why I drafted so well last year because I'm like, I've been rocking with a lot of these dudes
51:05in a lot of different spaces for a long time.
51:08And my scoring system is so different. That's, we'll talk about Joey a lot.
51:12That's my boy. I love Joey. Yeah. He was definitely going off of a PPR ranking system.
51:17Absolutely. That's why he didn't draft a running back in the first round.
51:20Yep. And I'm like, okay, cool. You didn't read the scoring system when you came over here.
51:26You know how to play fantasy. You'll adjust to it.
51:28He did make the playoffs. Yeah. Right? I did the same thing, but I knowingly went into it.
51:34I was, by the time the end of the season came, I was two games up on the rest of the league.
51:40Yeah. Which is hard to do, to be like, even just like have one.
51:44It's usually tied, tied. Oh, but I beat this person.
51:47All right. And this was also because you had Tyler Warren at tight end, who you took upside value on in double digit rounds.
51:54Who did you? It had been the ninth round I got Tyler Warren, but it was late.
51:59Yeah. I mean, even that for a rookie tight end, that's a good value to have.
52:04And then you had Daniel Jones to stack with him.
52:07I picked Daniel Jones up on waivers. And we're not having touched on like stacks or like other weird stuff like that.
52:14We'll do that later. I brought up Kyler Murray earlier.
52:17In my dynasty league, I have a Kyler Murray, Justin Jefferson stack right now.
52:21Yeah. I remember you telling me about that one.
52:23And my other quarterbacks are Drake May and Bo Nix.
52:26That's, yeah. That's nasty. That's about 10 years. That's nasty.
52:2910 years. That's how you build a roster, people.
52:32Stay inflexible. What are you talking about right now?
52:35I drafted Kyler Murray, by the way. Appreciate that.
52:37Yep. So I've had the faith. While he was in Arizona, I drafted him.
52:41I will say that. All that. So he just so happened to end up in Minnesota where I have their number one receiver.
52:48It just went like that for me. I don't love Kyler Murray.
52:52I just love the rushing upside he brings for quarterbacks.
52:55If Kyler Murray was healthy, he'd be in the LeBron Jackson tier for me.
52:59Yeah. Or if he was over 5'8". Nope. That doesn't matter to me.
53:03Because I've seen them wheels be wheeling. I mean.
53:05I mean, he's older now. Yeah. He's getting a little bit older.
53:09That's what he's got to be taken into account.
53:11We won't get too deep. Yeah. He's been in the league for a minute now, though.
53:16Yeah. But like, at full, this is another one of those Christian McCaffrey situations.
53:20Yeah. At full health, the man top 10. When Kyler Murray went through a whole season, was he not top 10?
53:27Yeah. He's a top five quarterback. He, for me, and he top 10 with top five upside.
53:32He's going to win for 1,000 yards. He's volatile.
53:34Because he'll give you those weeks where you're going to get eight points.
53:38And you're like, don't rollercoaster. Got to ride the rollercoaster.
53:41And then we play an Eagles defense as top five.
53:44And we go ahead and put 30 points up.
53:47I was just going to say, from eight to 39.
53:50Exactly. Got to ride the rollercoaster. But the good thing is, when you draft quarterbacks late like that, you can take multiple quarterbacks and play based off matchups.
53:58Which is exactly why I say stay flexible. Give me quarterbacks.
54:01Hey, almost, huh? Yes. In regular standard PPR leagues, if I don't hit on a quarterback that's going consistent every week, I'm streaming.
54:08But like we said in our earlier steps, build depth and target value.
54:12And that's exactly what you did. That's how you won a championship.
54:15That's what I did. That's how I won a championship.
54:18Yep. Yep. It's a fact. Don't go into these things with expectations about who you're going to get or how you're going to draft.
54:25Know your rankings and adjust accordingly based on how drafts go.
54:28Know which moves you're going to do. And by the time like mid-August, September rolls around, which is when most of us
54:35are doing our drafts anyways, you've done sat in the toilet three, four, five times, done your mock drafts.
54:41Like, you know where players are going. You know where to bounce.
54:44Like, you've practiced. You got some steps out the way.
54:47It's going to make your life so much easier.
54:50These are facts, people. So, um, ask Steve. The last few drafts that I've shown up to, not even a computer.
54:56Yeah. Because I've looked at it so much. Yep.
54:59He's like, damn, you didn't bring nothing? I was like, it's all here, man.
55:03I like my paper rankings. And I'm like, and I'm picking quick, too.
55:07Like, I don't be like, damn, y'all taking a long time to make me.
55:11You know, we're going to touch on that real quick here because, you know.
55:15It's like the 12th and 13th round. Yep. I got some little, like, nitpicky league things like that we're going to touch here at the end.
55:23But, um, finish wrapping up our little, uh, keys to building championship rosters.
55:26Is there anything else about, you know, staying flexible you wanted to add?
55:30I think we covered it pretty well. Oh, let me see.
55:33I would say. Yeah, draft doesn't go exactly as planned.
55:36That's 100% of the time, by the way. Absolutely.
55:39I will not remember a draft that I went into that I got every single person who I wanted.
55:45Never in the history of draft. What I would recommend for a lot of people, do your mock drafts a couple of times.
55:51The next one you do, draft somebody completely different you would never draft just to mess with your roster construction and see
55:58how it shakes things out just so you're ready for it.
56:01When I do mocks. Get them reps in. When I do mocks, I do mocks by strategy.
56:06So, I'll be like, okay, I'm going to do this with a hero RB strategy.
56:11I'm going to do this one with a take a quarterback what feels like too early strategy.
56:16I'm going to do this with a zero running back strategy.
56:19Yeah, that's what I said. Don't have a plan.
56:22Don't marry the plan. And I do like to be like, I don't like the way this roster looks.
56:27I don't like the way this roster feels. I feel like I'm weak here.
56:31But if I say I feel like I'm weak at running back and I did zero RB, I'm supposed to be weak at running back.
56:39Yeah. If there's good people drafting, right? Because you should have value at other positions.
56:43You should have value at other positions. You should be elite somewhere.
56:47But don't go into these things like cemented into an idea like, okay, I'm zero RB.
56:51You're zero out of position. You should be elite somewhere.
56:54Yep. Like elite. But yeah, I think that's about it for that.
56:58I mean, that's the best managers, like championships, like they don't force their drafts.
57:02They let value come to them and adjust accordingly.
57:05I like what I say. I said, if the value, if they drop to me, I'm finna grab it.
57:10Yep. All right. We're going to take a quick second.
57:13We're going to wrap it up here. We'll be right back with y'all.
57:17Yeah. All right. We are back wrapping it up here.
57:20I like it's brown, baby. That was it. That was it?
57:23Yeah. Quick little recap. Quick recap. Yeah. I mean, so it's, you know, know your league settings.
57:28That's first and foremost. Please go in. Go in and read them.
57:32The rest of the steps don't matter if you don't know how your players are putting points up on your team.
57:38So know your scoring system. Know your league. Know the dummies in your league.
57:42And you know when your wife's going to take Josh Allen in the first round year after year.
57:47I'm sniping her one year. I thought about doing that last year.
57:51I'm doing that. Like he's the only quarterback I would do it for.
57:55Doing that. It hurts my soul. I can't do it.
57:58I can't build a roster. It'd be so hard for me, bro.
58:01I tried building them. I've been before her most of the time and still I got to go get me a wire.
58:08You know what? As a practice, when you do a mock draft, take Josh Allen in the first or second round and
58:14then see how the rest of your roster looks.
58:17She ended up in the playoffs. I mean, you can do it, but you have to.
58:22The needle you have to thread in order to get to a championship is so narrow.
58:26Bro, it is so hard. And I like being able to win on a consistent basis.
58:31So I do like the confidence of knowing that there may be some consistency there.
58:36That peace of mind is so nice. But I do also like knowing that a position is on lock and I don't have to think about it.
58:44That is very nice. So that's a different space to come from.
58:47I'm glad you brought that up because we had said that like you don't have to listen to You draft Josh Allen?
58:54Yeah. Until he go on by, you don't worry about a quarterback.
58:57Nope. And some people love having that stability. So I get it.
59:01I mean, there's years like during prime Travis Kelsey years, he was going in the first round for what?
59:06Six years in a row. Was going in the top 10 overall.
59:10Yeah. As a first round pick and across all formats, PPR standard.
59:13So like I said, man, know your league, know your settings.
59:17Yeah. Definitely special cases. And some people drafted them every single year because the tactical advantage of nailing down a position.
59:23Especially the onesie. Is there or in smaller leagues.
59:25Onesie is a position where there's only one of, like I saw in your regular score leagues, there's only going to be one quarterback.
59:33Oops, excuse me. There's only going to be one tight end.
59:36If you do kickers and defense, there's only going to be one of each of those.
59:40But we're not drafting those for value. We're streaming those.
59:43That's just me. Those are some little vocabulary. That's just me that he wears onesies.
59:48Now, later on, we'll get, like we get a little deeper.
59:51Like there are some, there's a few kickers that have become special lately.
59:55Yeah. Like the Brandon Aubrey, you know, the Justin Tuckers, the, what's his name?
59:59Cam Littles of the world. We're not going to get canceled for saying Justin Tucker.
60:03No. No. Because he played football. Yeah, but he's Justin Tugger.
60:07Did he play football? Yeah. He also got massages.
60:09So I can say Justin Tucker then. We can say Justin Tucker.
60:13I'm talking about fantasy football. I'm not talking about what the man did.
60:17Listen. Hug it. Jug it. I can't judge the man who he's doing his free time.
60:21That's his wallet he's messing with. That's on him.
60:24That ain't got nothing to do with me. Washing my hands of this whole situation.
60:29Clear. That part right there. My boy, I hope it'll work out for you.
60:33Whatever you're trying to do. Yep. Anyways. But yeah, the onesie positions as the slang goes.
60:37Yeah. Quarterback tight end. Your roster spots that only have one spot.
60:41There is a strategy to where you lock down your onesies.
60:44Travis Kelsey made this a thing. Yeah. Where you could get...
60:47I could go Travis Kelsey, Lamar Jackson in my league.
60:50For years, I could have done that. And been just fine at those two spots until either of those guys went on by.
60:57So... Still fill out my other spots. I'm going to add this.
61:01The onesie strategy, I like a lot in smaller leagues.
61:04Because you're like eight in your ten-man leagues. Because your rosters are so smaller, that middle group of players is all ranked so close together.
61:11That by drafting an elite player, they score so much more.
61:14You don't hurt your roster because that group in the middle is so solid.
61:18Fucks. So you gain an advantage by actually drafting a top-end quarterback and a top-end tight end.
61:23Because you don't lose that much value between running backs and wide receivers going five rounds later.
61:28Because there's only eight people instead of 12 or 16 to go each round.
61:33Right. So like I said, know your league, man.
61:35Know your settings. Absolutely. Yeah. Building a strong core.
61:38I think that's just... We kind of touched on that just there.
61:41It's just running backs, wide receivers. You want to have options.
61:45You want to have depth. And you want quality options and depth.
61:48Anything else you need to add there? Knowing your league, no.
61:52Building a strong core. I think that was about the same.
61:55Pretty self-explanatory. In my first pick, I'm shooting for elite.
61:58Volume. Step three. Yeah. We want volume. As a matter of fact, in my first pick, I'm shooting for elite volume.
62:04Yep. You want your 30%... I'm not volume chase.
62:07I will not lie and say that I don't.
62:0928% target share. I volume chase. 30% target share.
62:12Except, so we'll get back to that on a deeper day.
62:15So target share is not something that I really chase.
62:18Depends. I lied. I lied. Target share is something that I really chase.
62:22Yeah. However, I'm definitely bouncing it off of the percentage in which that team throws.
62:26Mm-hmm. That's big. Yep. I'm not such deep. Volume.
62:29He's talking about volume. Yeah. Yep. How much does a team put the ball in the air?
62:34Yep. So if they're 32nd in pass opportunities, 30% target share could be 62 targets.
62:38Yeah. It's low. Oh my God. Draft for ceiling and stay flexible, man.
62:42Like that's... Draft for ceiling. I would say start out drafting for elite, end up drafting for ceiling.
62:48How I like... I feel like a lot... The people in the first and second round, they get drafted for what we think their ceiling could be.
62:56Right? Or they get drafted at their ceiling. Usually it's what their ceiling could be.
63:00Yeah. Right? I mean, that's how we usually rank the top.
63:03So... But in the... When you're drafting later in the rounds, you're drafting them what their upside could be.
63:09Exactly. Right. What you see their projected usage is in the back half of the seasons.
63:14Yeah. Which is why we target rookies because we generally see that curve happen towards the back half.
63:19Things start to click. Things start to happen. And their target share and usage...
63:23Yep. Their opportunity and volume increase. Increase. But yeah, like Pilar's first year, like shout out to her.
63:28She picked up Aminra St. Brown in like week eight after taking over a garbage team from another manager.
63:34And then she brought that donkey into the damn playoffs.
63:37And I was like, okay, for someone who doesn't care about fantasy football, she's just going to be long.
63:42Uh-huh. I ain't even going to get into all that.
63:45She be long. Yeah. I love her, but she be long.
63:49I do too. Alrighty. I'm just in the playoffs every year or every other year for nothing.
63:54Stop it. But yeah, I think that's going to wrap it up for our little, you know, 101 video, man.
64:00Our tips and tricks, roster construction. I need y'all to understand.
64:03You know how hard a 101 video is when you're so in-depth all the time?
64:07Yeah. It was fun to go back. It was fun to take a step back and just like try and keep it simple.
64:14Well, it's fun to think back like when we first started playing.
64:18Do you remember who your first player you drafted was?
64:21I remember mine. Toby Derhart. I drafted Calvin Johnson with a number three pick overall.
64:25Wow. I was not very good at fantasy. I was not either.
64:29Derhart. When he was a Jacksonville Jaguar. Aw. Back then.
64:31You were a hometown fan. Yeah. No. Yes. The team that I was paying attention to, I was outside of my home because I lived here.
64:39Yep. Another thing. It wasn't very good for me.
64:42No. All right. We just got to chit-chat. No.
64:44But another thing, like don't draft like your hometown quarterbacks or team players.
64:48You can. I try not to, but. You can have fun with it.
64:52Bro. And you got your kids playing with you.
64:55That was the number two pick in the draft.
64:57I told everybody. I said, if B. John make it to me, he not making it to y'all.
65:03Oh, I already knew he was gone. Because of what B.
65:06John is actually doing. Yeah. In the landscape of fantasy football.
65:09Not necessarily because he was with Atlanta. Because he so happened to be a Falcon.
65:14Mm-hmm. I typically, I used to be one of the ones that stayed away from drafting Falcons until Falcons started being elite.
65:20And I was like, I can't just let them get away from me.
65:24I was like, B. John, top three. Yeah. And then even on like the opposite side of that, it took me forever
65:31to draft Ravens players because I can't stand the Ravens.
65:33Yeah. You got to get out your heart. And I think I'm still cursed for my Tom Brady decision.
65:39Like I didn't win my first championship until I drafted Tom Brady as my quarterback in like the seventh round of the OG league.
65:46I think that kind of occurs. It's Tom Brady, bro.
65:49It's because he's fucking Michigan. It's Michigan. But it's Tom Brady, bro.
65:53Yeah. Which is why I sucked it up, drafted him, and won a championship.
65:57There you go. Thank you. Thank you, Michigan. No.
65:59No. No. God damn it. You're tarnishing my ring and I don't like it.
66:04That Michigan boy won you a title that you didn't.
66:07God damn it. Listen, let me tell you something.
66:09Julio Jones. Hey. Let's talk about rival schools. And Kyle, he went to Alabama.
66:13I don't care anymore because he played for the Falcons.
66:16Yeah. I don't care. Like, I watched it. Once he came over and did elite things from my squad in the league,
66:23I mean, I'll be like, he could have went to a better college.
66:27I'm always randomly plugged that. But Julio Jones. All right.
66:30Let's steer her back. Yeah. Because we need to go on all day, man.
66:34Like, I know we could because I'm ready to go keep talking for an hour.
66:38Yeah. But we're going to wrap it up. We got to leave.
66:42Yeah. We got to leave. It's all good. We'll be back.
66:45We never want to leave, bro. Quick housekeeping stuff real quick.
66:48Willie should be back next week. We are going to start doing our divisional breakdowns.
66:53Shout out to the bearded one. Yep. Dad management is complete.
66:56He on the way back to work. That part, baby.
66:59That part. We will be posting content fast and furious over here now.
67:03We got some responsibilities to attend to. But yeah, man.
67:06Like, get ready. Like, this is. We're going to start taking over, man.
67:09So I'm excited for it. One city at a time.
67:12Moving on up. Anyways. Appreciate y'all for pulling up to the party we left, y'all.
67:17Any camera special? It'd probably be a week for me before I edit it.
67:21It's all good. I was telling people. Oh, yeah.
67:24I know you were. I don't think I got nothing else.
67:27No. Any updates for your fan base? For the OG fan base?
67:30Updates for your channel? Anything moving forward? Anything you want to plug?
67:34As we get more well-rounded in the field, you will see the advancements.
67:38I will say that. And we are an independent entity over here.
67:41That's both of us, by the way. It's all funded from our own pocketbooks.
67:45So we appreciate all the love that you give us.
67:48Right now it is. We're trying to fix that.
67:51I will plug that shamelessly. Appreciate that. Like, we love all the support we get.
67:55It helps. Yes, it does. Y'all back out on me.
67:58Built the man studio in here. All that. I mean, y'all.
68:02I use my hands, but. Y'all the built the man studio.
68:05Steve Hand did it. But y'all support did it.
68:08Vicariously. I appreciate y'all. Don't worry. Every time y'all do something for us, we love y'all.
68:12I appreciate that. That's why I keep coming back, man.
68:15Yeah. Coming back week after week. So yeah, we're gonna do at least two episodes a week here on OG.
68:21We'll have shorts coming out. Try to do at least five a week for you.
68:26You know, we'll try to keep content pumping out.
68:28Fun, educational content so you can win championships. That's what we're trying to do here.
68:33That's a fact. But yeah, man. Like, I think that's about it.
68:36That's a good way to close my boy. Absolutely.
68:39I love that. Shout out to y'all. We see y'all.
68:42We love y'all. Peace out. That's per usual. Love y'all.
68:45Bye. With another banger. Are you one of those media strategy people clicking through slides, scrolling spreadsheets?
68:50Yes? Good. This is for you. Because on Spotify, there's an audience that's different.
68:54Locked in. Loyal. Invested. They're called fans. Fans don't just listen to music.
68:58They feel seen by it. Like it belongs to them.
69:01So when your brand shows up on Spotify, that's who you're talking to.
69:05And you're right next to artists like me, Lizzo.
69:07So, are you ready to talk to fans? Spotify Advertising.
