1:04Not too bad. How are you doing? Doing well excited to talk some Browns football.
1:10You know, we were shooting, shooting it back and forth a little bit before this and I feel like there's some excitement
1:19around Browns football and these rookies and just what's happening.
1:22There is, you know, there's some excitement around Browns football and these rookies and you know, we're shooting, shooting it back and forth a little bit.
1:32And I feel like, you know, we can't even see what's happening.
1:37And, you know, you're like, can you replicate that?
1:40Because that's not, you know, let's be honest. That hasn't been Andrew Barry's strong suit, you know, in Cleveland, you know, over, over his time here.
1:50And, you know, they go out and you know, Okay, Spencer Fano guy, you know, that's a good pick.
1:58Even you picked up and you added picks with, you know, to get them and Casey Concepcion and Denzel Boston is like,
2:06see on another heater and, you know, Emmanuel McNeil Warren.
2:10I mean, you just kind of go through and you're like, you know, by God, he might've done it again.
2:18Maybe it was just the lack of first round picks that we, you know, we were kind of sort of clouding our judgment.
2:27But, you know, it certainly has because you can see the nice, a nice nucleus.
2:32Now these rookies have to go out and do like last year's rookies did and show that they can do it.
2:41And last year's rookies, these second year players have to go out and show that was, you know, we've, we've seen it.
2:49I can remember, you know, 2002, 2003, something like that.
2:53Anthony Henry going out 10 interceptions as a rookie.
2:56And, you know, so fitting in for the cold jacket now, right?
3:01No, no, you never heard from Anthony Henry again.
3:04Um, because, but you know, that's so that, you know, that that's the, you know, so yeah, there's excitement and springs, you
3:13know, eternally optimism time and, you know, Cleveland, but, you know, obviously like anything else every other year, it's going to come down to the quarterback.
3:23So sure. But the rookies, at least you feel like if they can, you know, maybe build the team around and then
3:31figure it out, you know, 27 or, you know, yeah, we'll just, we'll just leave it maybe in 20.
3:39Well, let's, let's dive in because obviously there's a new coach in town brings a new offensive scheme.
3:46You know, you've got to see some of this in person.
3:50What, um, what do you see that Todd Munkin brings to this offense?
3:55That maybe wasn't there in the past. You know, I saw yesterday, I believe it was, you know, a designed Deshaun Watson run.
4:04I almost fell out of my seat when I saw the video.
4:08We almost, I mean, it was like, we just see that.
4:13I mean, because look, Deshaun, I mean, I get you your question.
4:17Deshaun's not, you know, when you think runner, he's not, that's not what you think of.
4:23It was in his tool bag, but it wasn't, you know, he was more, his escape, it was more escapability.
4:31It was sort of, um, wasn't quite Lamar. I don't want, because Lamar is such a unicorn, but I think, think of
4:39how you see Lamar more use his legs, which is, you know, maneuver on the pocket, extend plays, that sort of thing.
4:48I think that's where the athleticism, Deshaun's athleticism has typically, you know, shown itself, but, you know, getting to the question, I
4:56think that's what Todd Munkin brings to this offense is, you know, he's working more of his background really isn't.
5:04We think of him as, because of what he did in Baltimore.
5:09We think of him as, you know, this NFL guy, but he's really a college guy going back to, you know, most
5:17of his career is, you know, is in college.
5:21Mm-hmm. He's going to have a lot of classes, but he's going to have a lot of classes, but he's also going
5:29to want to take his shots, you know, because that's what that one can, you know, think back to when he was
5:38in Tampa Bay and, and, and first time in Cleveland, you know, he's going to want to take his shots.
5:45But I think right now they're so in the install portion and we've only seen them on the field three times counting
5:54of mini camp day that, you know, that, I mean, they might as well have not done anything that day.
6:01Sure. But, but, but I, I, I'm, I'm fascinated to see as, because I think it's going to be Deshaun Watson's the starting quarterback.
6:11I just, he's looked the better, looked better than Shedeur in, now it's, that's not to say Shedeur can't, because they haven't
6:19named it, you know, they keep saying we haven't named one, but I, I think they're going to play around the quarterback strengths.
6:28And, and I think, you know, as with any Todd Munkin offense, they're going to, they're going to, they're going to run
6:36the football, but they're going to do it with a lot of, you know, a lot of motion, a lot of movement
6:45just to, just to kind, and a lot of tight ends, you know, notice multiple tight ends in various spots in the formation.
6:54So, but that's again, it's two OTAs that we've had an opportunity to see them.
7:00So I think they're still trying to figure out exactly what they want to do.

8:43No, and I mean, I think that's a great transition because, you know, we bring in this offensive talent kind of starting here with Casey, right?
8:53Someone who adds some excitement. Someone who, man, has shown some quickness, right?
8:58From what at least I've been able to see.
9:01You know, how do you think he kind of fits into that Munkin scheme?
9:07Any strengths? Any weaknesses? You know, what's your take on Concepcion from what you've seen so far?
9:13I think Zay Flowers. I mean, I think that we all fall victim to that sometimes when we have the unknown.
9:21It's, well, how can I explain it best with, you know, by, you know, a comp?
9:27And Zay Flowers is the best comp because what he's got a lot to say.
9:33Very angry. Very angry. He's excited for you. He said the Browns are on this podcast.
9:39I got to raise up for it. But, you know, they're going to move him around the formation.
9:46You know, that's one thing that's been noticeable. They don't believe he's inside or outside.
9:52You know, I've seen him a lot inside. You know, a lot of get him matched up on a linebacker.
10:00Get him matched up on a safety. Let him use that athleticism and quickness because he's absolutely athletic.
10:07You can see the quickness. And let him make plays because, you know, he really does it.
10:13I mean, he's made two or three really impressive.
10:17But yesterday he had a really impressive goal line catch.
10:21You know, I mean, contested multiple defenders around him.
10:24He had one in the end zone. He actually had a couple.
10:29Yesterday was probably the best day of all the, including rookie minicamp, the times we've seen him.
10:35He went up and he outfought two DBs to come down with a touchdown.
10:41Um, um, so, but, you know, there's still work to bring you down.
10:46The drops are something. And the biggest thing is, I think, not letting it be a mental thing.
10:52No, he's working. He's talked about working on it.
10:56Travis Switzer's talked about working on it. The office quarter.
11:00Uh, Todd's talked about him working on it. Um, he's talked about it, but it's just, I think it's.
11:07Sometimes you talk about too much. Sure. And it becomes a, you know, it becomes something he didn't really have.
11:15Didn't really have many yesterday. You know, we, we saw him.
11:19He had, I don't even want to call it a drop.
11:23You know, it's a kid. He's battling two guys that, you know, on across the middle for a ball.
11:31You know, sometimes you just give the defense, the defensive back or the linebacker, whoever's on the receiver.
11:38Sometimes you got to give them credit for making a play.
11:42And, you know, you know, you bring your arm down, you know, but that's the biggest thing.
11:48If there's a thing, it's, can he clean up the catches because, you know, clean up the drops, I should say, because
11:57that's while they didn't, they weren't actually top 10 last year as a team in drop rate.
12:03They have a veteran on this team who has a history of drop.
12:08It would be nice to have a wide receiver who you can count on catching the football, but in, you know, but
12:17you can see, you know, you can just see the work case he's putting in.
12:23And, and there's absolutely a reason for optimism to what he can bring to this offense.
12:29No, that's amazing. I mean, I feel like I always really dropped in training camp back to, you know, Jamar Chase, just
12:37because of the high profile of it. Well, I think I don't mean to cut you off, but, but you look at
12:46the guys that are typically at the top of the drop and it's high volume guys, right?
12:52It's high volume target guys who they're not perfect.
12:56You know, Jerry Rice, I think, I think even Jerry Rice dropped a pass or two.
13:02I'm not sure, but I think he did even.
13:05So, I mean, if you get that many passes thrown to you, it's, it's only, you know, it's only going to, I
13:14mean, it's only going to stand to reason that there will be drops and the percentage will be higher than somebody.
13:22A guy who's getting 12 targets a game is, you know, the, you know, it's simple math.
13:28I mean, I'm not mad at the sports writing, but I even know that.
13:34Sure. No, it's not. It's an interesting point. Nonetheless, you know, it, in a tier to even go deeper near point, like
13:42it is something that can be cleaned up, right?
13:46Right. Right. I mean, it's something you work on and, you know, if it continues, then you start, you know, it goes
13:54from the physical to, you know, then you, you think that then it's, it's in their minds.
14:01For sure. I think that's the pattern effect, right?
14:04Like you see a time over time. And this brings us to an interesting little segue here because I don't want to
14:13say completely different receiver, but definitely a guy who has different strengths, different weaknesses in Denzel Boston.
14:19Another super exciting pick from our standpoint, you know, let's kind of run it down.
14:25What you were saying, like, or what we covered with conception on, but talk about it with Boston the strengths, the weaknesses, how he fits.
14:35What are your thoughts on Boston? This is my guy.
14:38Okay. I mean, if you're talking, excuse me, two rookie mini camp practices, two OTAs now have seen him and every single
14:47time it's like, Oh, 12 over there. She knows that.
14:51I mean, because he is, he is the one that stood out of all the rookies.
14:57He's the one that has consistently, it's been like, Oh, I see what now again, they're not they're in, you know, jerseys
15:05and all the usual caveats that you have to put in on May at the end of May.
15:12But boy, he, he made a play yesterday where look, it probably should have been picked.
15:18The pass should have been picked, but it didn't.
15:22It went and he made, I mean, there's a defender right in front of him flashing right in front of him and
15:30this tight window, he makes the catch and turns it turns up feel for a, a touchdown.
15:37Excuse me. You know, the, the OTA before he out jumps Tyson Campbell and Ronnie Ickman for a touchdown.
15:44I mean, it just every single day that we've been out there, it's been, Oh, Denzel's made another play.
15:52You know, and you see, he's just stretching the surface.
15:55And specifically if you talk about him, I don't know what the usage rate is going to be in terms of targets,
16:04target rate or whatever, what have you. Um, but if you talk about somebody who I think in the red zone, you
16:12know, when, when, you know, when they, you know, maybe they want to take a shot, you know, just sort of, I
16:21really think he's got a chance to be a guy who, who puts up some nice numbers in those situations.
16:29Um, you know, there's, you know, the, the, obviously Fannin is going to get his share and, you know, but, but I
16:37just, and I look at him in the frame, you know, he is legit six, three you, I even think, and, and
16:45I, I bounced this off some colleagues as we've sat there and I look at him, I go, man, is there room for a little 10 pounds?
16:56Just not, you know, just, you know, you look at the arms and they're not small.
17:02This is not like some wiggy guy. I mean, but you're like, man, just, you know, because you know, what it's going
17:11to be, you get up there and you're battling a corner on a fade route or something.
17:17Just maybe, I mean, there's even, you know, I think his frame can hold it more than, more than anything is, but
17:26even in the, as he stands now, I mean, he's, he's showing, he's willing to do the, you know, fight for it.
17:34And I, I'm, I'm the speed. I mean, it's not, he's not the blazer, but he is a guy who can, you
17:42can stretch the field with a little bit and he's going to make plays for him.
17:49I think. No, that's great. I mean, obviously two very exciting wide receiver rookies there, hopefully pairing up with Jerry Judy, you know, fan.
17:58And I mean, that's a, that's a pretty solid young core.
18:02You add Judkins into the background and then, you know, you got maybe grandpa Watson holding it all together up top there by age.
18:11I mean, it gives them weapons, right. To succeed.
18:15No, and that's what they haven't had. It, you know, you know, I'll throw another guy in, you know, he's not a
18:23rookie, but he was a rookie last year. And I, Isaiah Bond.
18:28Okay. Um, you can, you can toward the end of the season.
18:33And I don't know if it was because they put Shedeur in and Shedeur was only Dylan Gabriel just, you know, I
18:41think Dylan was taking the smart play sometimes sacrifice of, you know, trying sometimes you just got to take shots.
18:49And I think toward the end of the season, December, you could see, you could see Isaiah Bond start to emerge and,
18:57and, and what a role could be for him as that stretch guy, that legitimate stretch guy.
19:04And I, you know, come back to, you know, the, these two OTAs and, you know, you can, you can see some progress.
19:13You can see, he looks a little bit more comfortable because, you know, he had the legal issues last year that, you
19:21know, he didn't get in until the week of the last preseason game, the Browns signed him.
19:28And, you know, so you're, you're, you're starting from, you know, you're starting from behind, but you know, I, he's just another one.
19:36I, you know, you throw up, but you're like getting back the weapons is what, what stands out.
19:43Yeah. And kind of what's, we're going to transition here a little and talk about, I mean, maybe I'm crazy here, but
19:52I've been super excited about what I've seen from Taylor green in just, and maybe it's cause he got every single rep in rookie camp.
20:01Right. And that could definitely play into this. Um, but you know, the athleticism, the, I'm guessing you've heard the, the slight
20:10online chatter about, Oh, is this our taste of the whole kind of baggage guy?
20:16And if you want to throw an eye roll on that, I'd love it because I think, because I think that's when
20:24we assess this quarterback room, look, just being, being fair, the two OTAs we've been out there, Taylor green has basically been
20:33an observer now that it's May and you know, there, there's still time, but we also know those of us who went
20:41through the Shadougar wars of, uh, of 2025. You know, when you get into Trent, you get into the season, if you're
20:50not the number one quarterback, you're really not getting work.
20:53You're not getting snaps. You're not getting reps. So I, it's going to be curious to see how he sort of evolves
21:02because I think that's where we see something in that Taysom Hill, maybe a smaller Taysom Hill, you know, where you, you
21:10bring them in on short yardage, you bring them in because look, when Deshaun was healthy previously, Deshaun would never do the quarterback sneaks.
21:20They, I mean, they, they, they were almost putting up in neon lights when it was Jameis, they would bring Jameis in
21:28or they would bring a tight end in to do it, you know?
21:33I, so I can see a package with Taylor green because, but I also think they, they want to develop him.
21:41And I think, I think he has a year to develop shooter would show to him.
21:47He can play quarterback in the NFL. I think a year from now though, I think there has to be a conversation.
21:56It's like, look, you have the, this skillset, you have this side.
22:00He is legit. I mean, you see him in person and he is an impressive physical specimen.
22:07Do you want to make money playing football? You can make a lot of money playing football.
22:13The Terrell prior, the, you know, and I hate that because I, I hate, you know, the, the, the connotations that, you
22:22know, the, the, we, we do that with, but look, it's true.
22:27I mean, Terrell prior was a thousand yard wide receiver in Cleveland.
22:31Yeah. So, I mean, and he could do it, but I, you know, I do think they want to, you know, give
22:40him every opportunity to be a quarterback because if he can, if he can, I mean, they've never had something like that
22:48is, that is a one-on-one, one-of-one physical package that, that he possessed.
22:53I mean, the, the physical side of it alone, right?
22:57It's exciting. Yeah. That I, I got to ask this then to the Browns.
23:02Do you feel the Browns carry four QBs this year in, in theory, let's call Taylor and green, a athlete in this moment.
23:11But how do you see, how do you like, I feel like this isn't a guy that you can necessarily practice squad.
23:19Do you feel like it is? Well, that's the, that's the question is, I don't know who the, if I, I don't
23:28know if they can get him through waivers. If you.
23:32I don't either. Yeah. I think somebody looks at him and says, excuse me again.
23:37I apologize about that. Somebody sees the same thing that we all see is like, oh, we'll grab them and we'll put them on our roster.
23:47We'll bury him and we'll, we'll develop him. You don't want to, you know, but if I had.
23:54And I don't want to put you on the spot.
23:58No, no, I'm not. I'm just trying to, I don't think they carry four.
24:04I don't think they carry four. And I think there's a world where, and again, we're, we're, we're late May.
24:11So we're allowed to hypothetical. We're allowed to, you know, you sky this a little bit.
24:17Um, you know, I think there's a world where they carry three active quarterbacks on a, on a game day because tailing,
24:26you know, going back to the taste on package, tailing won't be your backup.
24:31Gabriel or Sanders is going to be the backup, but you need them active for, you know, to, to be able to use them.
24:41So, um, I think there's a world where they carry three active quarterbacks on game day, just so they have the ability
24:49if they want to put tailing, you know, put tailing in those situations.
24:54But again, we haven't seen, you know, they're still in the install where they just got the tempo, you know, in the, they said this week.
25:04So there's, there's still, you know, there's still a long way to go.
25:09And, and certainly, I mean, he's only been in for, for a month on this, on even on the roster.
25:17So, you know, it's going to, it's a, it's going to be a developmental curve.
25:22That's going to be fun to, to kind of follow just to see if there is, you know, what, what kind of, of, of world they can roll.
25:33He can, he can carve out. We were spot on, right?
25:37It's the excitement around them that keeps us interested.
25:41That keeps, it sounds like potentially other teams interested.
25:44I mean, I, I don't want to quote this exact cause I don't have it up, but I want to say he's
25:53like six, four in, you know, is that, does that sound accurate?
25:58Is he six, five, six, five. There you go.
26:01I was wrong. Like to your point, I'm actually going to do this live on it because, um, because I can't, uh,
26:09I want to say it's six, five to 12.
26:13I mean, that's not small. Even if it's six, four to 12, you know, I apologize.
26:19I have, I have massively short changed and he is six, six to 30.
26:24Even, I mean, you know what? He is every bit six, six.
26:29He's every bit two 30. And, but the main thing is, is it's two 30, but it's, I'm around two 30 ish,
26:38but on a five, nine frame, you don't get to strip that out.
26:43No, I looked the way I look, you look at him and go, Oh yeah.
26:48That's what he happens when you have that frame.
26:52Yeah. It must be nice. So, yeah, but I know it, I think that's why, I mean, I think that's why they
27:00find a way to keep him on the end because you just, you cut them and then you're just not sneaking that
27:09through because somebody jumps on that in a heartbeat.
27:12Makes perfect sense. All right, Chris, let's finish this off.
27:16Kind of give you a sandbox. Can this can be good, bad left to right?
27:22The old line, the often anything you want, something you feel people need to know about this Browns offense.
27:29Quinshawn Judkins. My guy looks, I paid close attention to him yesterday because I didn't know if he'd be on the field
27:38the first time we got to the OTAs a week ago, but I knew going into this one, I was like, Oh,
27:46Quinshawn's going to be, you know, I want to see how he looks a little.
27:52And when we do this, another colleague was like making fun of the, Oh, he looks bigger.
27:58And I was like, what is that? How do you, you have to be measuring them?
28:05Well, no, I mean, just, he looks like he looks healthy.
28:09He looks, he looks like the guy that, you know, I know that everybody remembers the Ohio State Quinshawn.
28:16Think back to the Ole Miss Quinshawn, who, you know, who was leading the SEC in rushing.
28:23And I mean, he's, there's a world with, I mean, we've seen it with Todd.
28:28What he, I mean, we saw it with Derrick Henry, you know, and there's a world where, you know, I think, you
28:37know, he was leading all rookies in rushing when he got hurt.
28:41That's without a training camp, without an opener and without an offensive line or a passing game around him, everybody knowing he was getting the football.
28:51So I think the offensive line has a chance to be better.
28:56We'll see. I'm going to be curious. I mean, there's, there's still sort of mixing and matching right now.
29:03I think the passing game might be better, even if it is the Sean Watson.
29:09I think there are enough tools around there that he can, you know, they can make plays.
29:16And if you've got to actually worry about the pass and there's actually holes for him to run through, I think you're
29:24going to see why Quinshawn Judkins was one of the top running backs in last year's draft.
29:31And why I think, you know, he's perfect for a perfect fit for, for Todd Munkin's offense.
29:37Now I was, I was kind of secretly hoping you were going to say Judkins, because I feel like everything we talked
29:46about kind of correlated back to the run game there.
29:50So that is an absolute great way to end this segment.
