Smith was reunited with the Jets this offseason as a bridge quarterback. While his numbers in Las Vegas last year weren't pretty, he was still able to complete 67.4% of his passes (11th among qualifiers) and has posted a passer rating over 90 in three of his last four seasons as a starter. That baseline alone puts him ahead of most of the passing production the Jets got out of the position in 2025, when their quarterbacks combined to finish 31st in the league in passer rating and dead last in yards per completion. New York also overhauled its pass rush, offensive line and skill positions this offseason, giving Smith more support than he's had in years.

Geno Smith's return to the Jets is not as a savior emerging from a breakout elsewhere, but as a cheap veteran with starting experience willing to suit up for a rebuilding franchise. After his 2022 breakout in Seattle (QB8 per game, 21.5 PPG), Smith declined to QB24 (18.2 PPG) in 2023 and QB19 (19.1 PPG) in 2024, rendering him unstartable for long stretches. He was arguably one of the worst full-time starting quarterbacks in the league last year. Now 36 years old, he must adapt to another new roster, coaching staff, and playbook.
