0:01Hello everybody. Guess what? The draft is over. Fantasy football season can start now. Everybody has a helmet on.
0:08Everyone has a landing spot. Well, not everyone had a landing spot. Some people are getting some after the draft, though. We'll maybe touch on some of
0:15those as well. I'm Bob Harris. He's Matt Waldman, author of the Rookie Scouting Portfolio. This is RSP season. Matt, tell us what the plan is uh in the
0:24coming days with the postdraft edition.
0:27Well, if you're a subscriber, you got in your mailbox this morning at about 6:15 a.m. I did not a list of um Yeah, I need
0:34to send it to Bob because he's my guinea pig. If you bought it, you got it. But it's a list of it's a list of the top 52
0:43um prospects um for your rookie drafts.
0:46It's a tentative list because I'm going to have a cheat sheet in the RSP postdraft that'll be out sometime probably by no later than Saturday
0:54night, but most likely earlier than that, probably closer to like Thursday or Friday. We'll see. Um, and the post draft gives you, you know, two-page
1:02cheat sheet that gives you rankings, tiers, um, also, you know, a lot of, um, abbreviated kind of intel that you
1:13that's easy to access, things like their value relative to, um, what the ADP of various leagues are showing. Um, so I do
1:24these ADP studies with leagues that I track that are a long-term dynasty format so that you can kind of see if I
1:30say, "Listen, I would rather you draft this undrafted running back over this mid-tier wide receiver." Um, I'm going to show you where you can draft that
1:40that running back. Um, you know, things like that. Um, you're going to get, you know, my assessment of players who were
1:46good fits, bad fits, players who I think are long-term projects based on where they landed. Um you're going to get a
1:53complete like Excel looking grid with um depth chart analysis that shows you the players that they're the the depth charts are these players are landing on
2:03my assessment of their competition whether these what um what stage of contract these players are in at least whether they have one or two years left
2:11on their contract. So you can see, you know, short term whether this is a, you know, a good landing spot at least from
2:17the financial st implications before um the team changes its mind and decides to draft somebody else next year um into the mix. Um so you you get a ton of
2:29information. It's about usually about 120 to 150 pages that I turn around in the span of about a week. Um, and people
2:36love this, especially new subscribers who who want to see updates after the draft that include considerations of draft capital. Um, but you also get the
2:48po the pre-draft guide, which is really the goods, if you ask me. And I usually tell people who are overly excited about
2:54the post-draft guide, that when you start looking at the waiver wire and everybody's all excited about, you know, where their favorite tight end with big
3:04speed and suspect hands landed wasn't all that great of a spot. um that that maybe that maybe, you know, when they
3:13they're surfing the waiver wire, you know, they can look at their their pre-draft RSP and start to get some sense again about their team. Um and
3:22most people find that that does tend to be the case, but um you get both for n for 21.95 at mountwaldman.com.
3:29Um, if you sign up, if you signed up after um, midnight on Sunday, um, you probably didn't get the the postdraft
3:40cheat sheet preview. It will be resent for tomorrow. So, I will So, as long as you, you know, get your ass over to
3:47mountwin.com before, say, let's say 11:00 p.m. Eastern time tonight, I'll probably be able to include you on that email list. If not, I'm just going to
3:56say, you know, you'll you'll be in luck for the RSP postdraft in its complete form with updated rankings probably before probably before Friday night. I'm
4:07I'm going to imagine no later than Saturday night. Um otherwise, you're so damn. So, a little behind the scenes here. Uh, I have multiple accounts at
4:17mattwalman.com and the one that I don't think is the official account, but is the official account, I did receive my uh,
4:25>> see, there you go. You weren't so >> I wasn't So, and I'm also told uh, since you're still working on the postdraft
4:33for quick turnaround, you won't be answering any questions except here.
4:37>> Yeah, pretty much. I you know, if you have questions about how to access something that you got, you know, I can
4:43answer that. if you're having trouble logging in, that kind of thing, I'll be more than glad to answer. But if you're
4:47going to ask me about where you should draft somebody, what do I think about this landing spot, things like that, um,
4:54you know, I'm trying to pour all my energy into getting this done so that I can answer a lot more questions than
5:00just, you know, a few dozen.
5:02>> All right, so check it out. Go to mattwalman.com. Order up if you haven't already. If you have, like me, eagerly
5:07anticipate the arrival, follow him on the X at Mattwman. Follow me at football. Go read my fantasy notebook. I touch on some of the topics we'll be
5:15talking about today. It's about the truth told in the form of draft capital on draft day. And we'll get into a
5:19little of that here as well. Let's start out with this man. Jeremiah loves landing spot sucks. Feel it or [ __ ] it.
5:26>> I'm trying to see you smile because you already know. You Yeah, [ __ ] that. It's definitely >> I feel like I like I just like put the
5:34ball on the tea and I'm stepping back.
5:36>> Yeah, I'm I'm I'm happy Gilmore in this one. Um for sure. This is definitely that [ __ ] that idea that it sucks. Okay,
5:45first of all, among the among the places that he might have gone were the Giants, the Commanders, and the Titans. All of
5:53those spots sucked worse. Okay, the Giants, they have Cameron Scannabo. If he stays healthy, um, you know, he's a plus version of David Montgomery. Why
6:05you want having Jeremiah Love split time with that in an offense where Jackson Dart still hasn't proven he can throw downfield with any level of consistency.
6:15So yes, >> and still going to run the ball.
6:18>> Yeah, they're still going to run the ball.
6:20>> He's still going to run the ball guard.
6:21That's going to be a limiting factor.
6:23>> That's right. And so at best Jackson, this benefits Jackson Dart more than it would benefit Jeremiah Tate. And then the offensive line is basically Andrew
6:31Thomas. Thank you, goodbye. Um, then you look at the the Washington Commanders and yes, they're switching to a new offensive scheme. It's the second scheme
6:40for Jaden Daniels in in three years. Um, I imagine he'll be okay with that, but his ability to throw downfield is
6:48excellent, but until, you know, if they had picked Love, they wouldn't have picked Antonio Williams. And they still didn't pick anybody else to really help
6:58out old scary scary Terry McLuren. So, it's kind of a it's kind of a a a change in a way that I could say this might
7:07have been a decent opportunity, but Rashad White is an okay back. You know, they've got >> bring back three two years ago.
7:15>> Exactly. So, they've got some decent talent there. While yes, Love would be an upgrade on paper, um it's the offense
7:24still has some suspect. It's a little suspect. the Titans. I mean, yes, in in a year, Pard and Spears are going to be
7:31gone. Um, but then you wouldn't have you've had these so- so receivers that maybe are de, you know, guys that might
7:38be able to develop into decent players, but you didn't have a primary option.
7:42This is the second offense in as many years for Cam Ward, who's in year two.
7:46And I like Cam Ward, but again, this team doesn't have a great offensive line either. So, you you're looking at less
7:54experience here. So, now we're at car at the Cardinals. Cardinals probably have the better line of most of those teams.
8:03Um, they have a quarterback who actually will distribute the ball in various spots. Um, which makes the offense less predictable, Kyler Murray. Um, you know,
8:14they got rid of the quarterback who was l basically an anchor for this offense unless you give fantasy points for highlight worthy plays that show up on
8:23ESPN. Okay, you've got a you've got a Pro Bowl caliber receiver in Michael Wilson. You have an emerging talent in in Marvin Harrison. You you have a Pro
8:34Bowl caliber player in Trey McBride.
8:38Now, people look at the backfield and they get all freaked out, but as Bob reported, Trey Benson was still limping in November last year. Um, this is
8:47probably a referendum on Trey Benson probably not being healthy enough to have the career that they hoped they did. or it's a referendum on the fact
8:55that James Connor isn't going to be there very long. It might be a referendum on both. And Tyler Algier playing the the downhill tossplay um
9:05screen back role. It didn't kill Bejian Robinson's value in the least. And if anything, Jeremiah Love is an Alvin Kamar like player who now with Greg
9:16Dorch gone, you can put him in the put Love in the slot. And now you can have Connor or um Algier or Benson as the
9:26back and put Love out, you know, in the slot and get value out of him that way, too. To me, this is actually a pretty
9:35good landing spot despite the doom and gloom. And I'll say, you know, look, we all miss on stuff, but I I I tend to
9:41think that when I feel like I'm on an island about good landing spots versus the fantasy industry, um I've had a
9:48pretty good track record with that with, you know, with Jefferson, with Justin Jefferson and AJ Brown, um you know, and a variety of other players that I I just
9:59woke up, so I'm not going to remember everybody, but those are a couple that that come to mind. And I just this one
10:06just seems weird to me that people are saying it's bad. And even Ashton Genty landing spot wasn't what wasn't as bad
10:14as they made it out to. It was bad in football terms. It was awful. But the difference in that too is that Pete
10:19Carol didn't want to throw him the ball.
10:22So they didn't throw him the ball um as much as they could have and that would have elevated his opportunities. With
10:28love, we see that I I think we're going to see that he's going to get thrown the ball.
10:33>> Yeah. I think uh and and Mel Kyper Jr. I don't often cite him in this space, but he did make a salient point. You know,
10:40the difference between Love and Genty Lafleur is going to line Love up in the back field and let him break home runs
10:44with four 36 feet and he's going to get Love in a slot and also out wide. I mean, I think we're going to see all
10:49that. I think the touches are going to be fine. You're right. This is like where we've been told something leading up to draft. it was going to be one of
10:56these three teams, you know, and we had the the Titans and we decided that was the best landing spot because damn it,
11:03that's what everyone said. But I think you're exactly right. I think we're overreacting to this. Landing in Arizona is fine. If he gets 300 touches, he's
11:11line up and al Algier last year, by the way, you know, out Rob Bjan Robinson outnapped him 860 to 328. He's not a time share. It's a
11:22spell situation, but also in situations when Robinson was still running back too, even though Algier had the career-high eight touchdowns. So, uh,
11:29it's not necessarily >> it's not a death nail on his fantasy prospects as a running back one.
11:37>> I would agree with that. All right, we've we've hashed this one out. Let's uh So, in case anyone missed the subtle
11:43shot at the opening, uh, Matt Walman thinks bad hands don't trump 439 speed.
11:48I don't know. We can have that discussion. Well, let's talk about Kenyan Sadi's landing spot. Also bad feel.
11:54>> We can have it, but you don't want to have it.
11:57>> You just want to troll me with it.
11:58That's right. But yeah, look, Kenyon Sadi could become a very good player.
12:03He's, you know, that the athletic ability is there, the speed is there, his ability to make some really big time catches is also there. But across the
12:12board, his hands, his blocking ability, his route running are all worse than Mason Taylor. Mason Taylor is a legit um starting tight end in the league who had
12:22to play with Justin Fields for much of the time and are playing with quarterbacks who made him leave his feet to catch the football in scenarios where
12:29he should have been able to maintain it and head downfield. Um I think that with Gino Smith, we're going to see a little
12:36bit better play hopefully out of the quarterback position that will help Mason Taylor. But here's the problem with Sadique now the the first round
12:45pick. What are we looking at here?
12:47Because if it's a two tight end offense, which you would imagine the Jets want to run because of the fact that they have a
12:52strong running game. Well, then who's really the blocking back? Is it Taylor?
12:57Taylor's pretty good at that. He can get better at it. Um, and that may reduce his value. Um, but then there's Jeremy
13:05Jeremy Rucker, who might be the best blocking guy and the best all-around rot runner. The guy who's not going to have
13:10as many goofs and and adjustment issues, acclamation issues, is going to be Taylor. You would think Taylor Rucker would be the best combination. Now,
13:18they're going to force feed Sadik there.
13:20Does do they use him as a second receiver ahead of Omar Cooper Jr. If they use 12 personnel? Are they going to
13:27use him in more an 11 personnel and use him as the slot receiver um and match him up that way? That could be all
13:34right. But again, what we saw at Oregon is that he looked particularly slow on a lot of routes that he's going to need to
13:42read the field and be on the same page with a veteran quarterback. So, I would say that it's not as strong as it looks.
13:50There's a chance for it to be decent, but I think that he's probably one of the more boom bust early round t he's
13:57the there's two early round tight ends in my opinion, and he's the boom bust one. So just something else that that
14:04adds to this here, you know, like I think this is going to end up depending on the formation slot, but isn't Cooper
14:10better best suited the slot? Like if they're going to three receiver personnel, is that maybe not the spot for Cooper to to get a chance to shine
14:16or or is it going to be is it going to be Sadique? What are they going to do?
14:19Yeah, I mean I would see Cooper as more of a flanker, but um but at the same time, you could see how they might put
14:25him in the slot, too, depending on how fast he acclimates because of what he does, you know, with his skill after the
14:31catch. Um so that's very possible. They might, you know, at moving them around's fine, but my the problem is is that Sadi
14:39to me didn't look like a guy who was fast on the uptick with reading defenses at the college level. So, if he's going
14:45to get to the NFL level and there's going to be that as an even greater requirement, I think that this my
14:51concern is is that the Jets have inadvertently turned Sadiq with just picking him into a gadget player who doesn't have a huge role. um and that
15:00they start him as a guy that they wanna that you know Brick and Brick and company are going to want to put him in
15:06there as a full-time guy and by week six and they've lost four games they're and Sadique has made multiple mistakes they're going to have to tailor back the
15:15role or change around what they do and then Sadi gets kind of buried and gets scapegoated by the by the brickster and
15:22I and I'm not sure >> that's like that's like three shots of brick in the single >> I just think that I just think that
15:29You're I I think that you are I Well, I was going to say something. I probably You're You're just You're a dumb [ __ ] to be using like like
15:40ratings from a video game to force feed onto your grandpa. And the fact that I don't know who's worse, the grandpa
15:46who's listening to that or the or the kid who's doing that and then also just like coming into a room into a locker
15:55room and grabbing a grabbing a game ball away from a player and giving it to another player. Um that just tells me
16:02what kind of like what kind of spoiled privilege this human being has and probably, you know, doesn't even understand the value of work. So, I'm I'm just Yeah,
16:13that's my take.
16:14>> All right, fair enough. I I you have strong feelings about this? I'm not hating. Uh Cleveland Browns, Matt, it's safe to say that they win more drafts
16:24than they do football games. Perhaps at some point that that will even out. I don't know. Uh Casey Conpsion, 24th pick
16:32overall, Texas A&M wide receiver. Uh Denzel Boston then seventh pick of the second round, the Washington wide receiver, bigger fella. Um, are these
16:42the starting wide receivers for the Cleveland Browns field or [ __ ] it?
16:45>> I'm feeling it could be. I would say more likely Conpion will be a starter. I think Ben Boston will wind up a starter
16:52by the year's end. Um, it's just that, you know, will he will they both deliver starter value? I think that's the big
17:00question. if Deshun Watson is actually the starter. And every time I say that to somebody outside of fantasy football, just a fantasy football um you know,
17:09player, they they all like moan and groan and say, "No, that can't happen.
17:13It can't be." You know, but um but I would say, you know, it's a possibility if that happens. Certainly Conpsion is
17:22probably the player that's going to get the most opportunities playing in the slot um and being fed the ball as an
17:29extension of the ground game and what will likely be a spread offense. I mean Todd Monkin is going to use he'll use
17:36multiple tight end sets, but he's also going to use he's going to spread the team spread teams out with a lot of
17:42these heavier personnel packages as much as he keeps it compressed. He does a little bit of both. But we know that the
17:49guy in the middle of the field tends the guys in the middle of the field tend to be the players that he has their
17:55quarterback target and I think that you know Conpsion could be that Boston I think has more upside than Tilman. I think he has more upside than what we've
18:03seen from Jerry Judy at this stage of his career. Um so I think that it could have it could happen for him but he has
18:11a little bit more of a hill to climb. Is it possible the Browns on Saturday in the sixth round drafted their
18:18quarterback of the future? Feel it or it?
18:20>> I feel it. Tayen Green of Arkansas.
18:22Listen, I mean, I think, you know, he needs more experience. He's going to need to develop some more um some more
18:30skills that are going to make him a higher level quarterback for the NFL. Um and and people are going to talk about
18:36his lack of accuracy, but I think that he's very The guy he reminded me of was Colin Kaepernick. just a more athletic
18:44version of Colin Kaepernick. And I could see how the Browns and a Todd Monkin offense you could use a guy like that
18:51and that they drafted him because they felt like that he would be a match for what Monkin can do with him. And so he won't be I
19:00don't think he'll be as unlimited of a conceptual player as Lamar Jackson is.
19:06Um, but he could grow into enough that that he won't be as shackled as Kaepernick was in the 49ers offense. And
19:14when I say shackled, I mean that, you know, Kaepernick was a good quarterback, but I think that the um I think
19:21conceptually he was not as strong as say a guy like Lamar Jackson. He was not they he needed an offense the way that
19:29the 49ers ran it um for him to really thrive and needed that strong surrounding talent. And I think that the Browns are going to build are going to
19:38try to build strong enough surrounding talent that Green at least early on can be in that Kaepernick type of role and
19:44then maybe grow into enough of a role that it may never reach Lamar Jackson levels but it'll be good enough that you
19:51know maybe Jaylen Herz levels that could be a certainly a potential area there.
19:56The >> Buffalo Bills in the fourth round of this draft uh made a move that uh that Matt Matt Wman approved. Could Skyler
20:03Bell be the skill position uh player steel of this draft? Feel it or [ __ ] it?
20:08>> Oh, absolutely. He could be the steel of this draft. I mean, we look at, you know, Keon Coleman has had fans in the
20:15locker room in terms of teammates who but they were like, "Listen, cousin, we we need you to like figure some things
20:22out. Like, we like you, but you and we see your talent, but you got to do your homework. You got to work."
20:29They they had offers their they talked about this morning. I think Brandon V talked about the they had offers for Coleman and they told everyone to get
20:36the hell out of there.
20:37>> Yeah. See? Well, there you go. So, sometimes ego saves the day for a player, you know, >> and not his own.
20:43>> Sunk costs. Exactly. Sunk costs. Um I don't know. But I I think that also they probably foresee this as they maybe can
20:53move Keon Coleman inside eventually now that they have an outside presence with speed and Skyler Bell who can go up and
21:00get the ball. And they and I think with Bell opens up this offense along with DJ Moore. And I think that with Moore and
21:10Shakir, they they create a buffer in a way that Bell's going to get some featured matchups like he could be the
21:17Gabe Davis with better hands that the that they used to have in, you know, in that lineup and we could see a 900 to,00
21:26yard season out of Bell just even in with limited types of looks that they give him where it's just very matchup
21:34heavy and matchup favorable for him and then he can throw into the role and eventually supplant I would bet supplant DJ Moore and then they their hope is
21:44that Keon Coleman gets it and they can they can listen to a lot of us who said use him as a bit a power slot. That's
21:51probably the best place he could be.
21:53>> All right. So, by the way, Skyler Bell, in case you somehow missed it, and I'll give away a little bit from the store,
22:00wide receiver five on the pre draft RSP.
22:03Let's talk about number three, Malachi Fields.
22:07Uh maybe I foreshadowed the answer here.
22:10Giants fans disappointment over his selection uh is warranted. Feel it or it.
22:15>> Yeah, you did a real good job of that one.
22:20But that's okay. I'm half awake and I I can't even I I listed Jeremiah Love as Jeremiah Tate this morning. So, you
22:28know, if you want to see the goodness, if you look watch Bob, watch Bob all weekend with all the stuff that he did.
22:35It's amazing. This dude's even standing up and coherent right now. So, >> who says I'm coherent?
22:40>> That's right. Well, I do, but I'm in a dream right now. So, I don't even know if this is actually happening. But, um,
22:46no, seriously, yes, it's warranted. And I know that fans are disappointed over it because they see a 46 player. They might have even seen that they wanted a
22:55different position. Maybe they wanted a faster player downfield. But, you know, really for his size, his size strength, his ability to go up and win the ball.
23:04Um, he also has excellent quickness and excellent short area change of direction skill. This is a player that you he's going to get you yardage. He's going to
23:16get you after the catch and he's going to get free from defenders early. He's a very good route runner. So I think
23:22compliment he's a very strong compliment to Malik Neighbors and you could find yourself having a Jamar Chase T. Higgins type of complimentary wide receiver core
23:33right here with these two guys. I I think Fields is is a good pick and I didn't move down on him very much. Um,
23:40the only reason I did is Jackson Dart, but um, but I think that that era, he will either get better or it will be
23:47over very quickly. With the uh, eighth pick of the fourth round, the Denver Broncos got the attention of fantasy nation uh, by selecting Jonah Coleman,
23:57the Washington bowling ball of a running back. Um, and and I guess the there's only one obvious question, uh, uh, Coleman to the moon. Feel it or [ __ ] it?
24:07Um, I'm, you know, I I would say it took us a few times to get those rockets up into space. So, I'm I'm kind of feeling
24:15that this is not it. I think Shawn Payeyton has some curious moves with picking players at running back. There's a lot of players he's picked who just
24:24really aren't that good. And then the player that he really didn't want to pick was Alvin Chimera. Um, you know, so
24:31it I look at Coleman and I see a Lendale White clone. um a player who just doesn't have that much burst, who
24:39doesn't um he who needs to run with his pads better downhill. Um that the tackles I see him break are against
24:46lower level competition and their arm tackles through big holes. Um his pass protection while he gets in the way of people, he doesn't use the technique. So
24:57he he is to the moon, but he may not be on the field to the degree that people expect. This feels like an Audrey
25:03Estimate pick if you ask me a little bit. So I and JK Dobbins isn't going anywhere. Um at least as long as he's
25:12healthy.
25:12>> Is it could this be an indict an indictment of RJ Harvey? This is what is widely been suggested uh in coverage
25:19over the course of the weekend.
25:20>> It could be. It could very well be an indictment of R.J. Harvey, even though they're both very different backs in
25:27terms of style. So, it's, you know, maybe Jonah Coleman gets some short yardage love, but I >> or maybe they just think JK Diamonds is
25:35going to get hurt.
25:36>> Maybe that's what they think, you know, and that's very the case, but this feels kind of And then I think Royce Freeman
25:42is another one. And I liked Royce Freeman better than I like Jonah Coleman. So, I don't know. This is one of those picks that I I'm not all that
25:50I'm not all that impressed by. So, if you if you want to, you know, if you want to play, do the opposite. Maybe
25:56Coleman will be a massive hit for you.
25:57But I'm not there.
25:58>> Do we do we just not have to come to grips with the fact that for the most part NFL teams don't view running backs
26:03the same way we do from from a fantasy perspective? Not from from a scouting perspective. Just like we see a landing
26:09spot and we see the draft capital being kind of minimal, you know, like it was three running backs in the first two
26:16days and one of them nobody expected. We can talk about that separately if we want Kaylin Black going to San Francisco.
26:21But then, you know, it just seems like teams feel like, ah, we'll be fine with whatever we get and they'll take some
26:28shots on guys and maybe maybe we should be viewing it a little differently.
26:32We'll talk about this.
26:33>> Yeah. I'll just say this real quick. I think NFL teams still believe that it's an instincts thing and they don't watch
26:39the they don't watch running backs as carefully as they need to.
26:42>> Well, let's just spin this forward just so feel it. Take a chance on undrafted running backs ahead of mid-tier wide
26:48receivers, quarterbacks, and tight ends.
26:50I'm beginning to feel that and that may end up being my default strategy. It's the one that's kind of showing up in my
26:55top 52 in the preliminary cheat sheet.
26:58And the reason being is this is that when you look at the tight ends just to start well with the wide receivers and
27:03the mid-tier wide receivers, many of them are stuck in this ground where the grade looks pretty good and promising um but their ability to actually develop
27:11and become anything more than a Chris Connley um type or a Demarcus Robinson type of player is probably minimal. they clog your roster up and then you you
27:23missed out on a player who might give you one or two years of strong starter or fantasy value in one of those UDFA
27:31types. And I I would in this type of a draft, I would rather go early on receiver and then the mid to late rounds
27:40just start taking chances on some of these backs. you may miss big time and it may not pan out your rounds three
27:47through six or four through seven or you know don't really pan out but there are going to be so many tight ends available
27:54there going to be some receivers available that are going to be discarded on the waiver wire you're going to be able to go pick up a lot of these guys
28:01back and I'd rather be in on the running back who maybe gives you early value immediately and then you look at him and
28:07go he's not that fast he's not that big he's probably going to get replaced let me trade pay him while it's, you know,
28:13while he's doing well, gets get extra value for it for next year. And I and you end up profiting because, you know,
28:20with the tight end positions in flux, you know, we're going to talk more about that and with the wide receiver position. I mean, like Trey Harris might
28:31end up being a good receiver at with the Chargers, right? But Trey Harris is in that tier of players that could wind up
28:37easily being again Chris Connley or Demarcus Robinson. And there's and year after year I see this all the time and I'm thinking meanwhile you could have
28:47gotten you know you could have gotten Jaka Kroski Merritt for about 6 weeks and then traded him or a Kyle Manan guy
28:54and you know may and looking what the Bears haven't done at running back you know and meanwhile this guy's you know
29:01working out with one of my favorite receiver coaches down here in Atlanta and I'm thinking this guy might end up turning out to be give you two to three
29:10years of good value. So to me, that's the rationale here is that why do I, you know, why am I taking a guy who's the
29:18fourth or fifth receiver on the depth chart right now who might have an early early, you know, round two, round three,
29:25round four draft capital, but has like three guys to get ahead of. And maybe he'll maybe he'll get the chance in year
29:32two. But I I just don't see him fully replacing the stud that he might be in front, might be behind, and they might
29:41be drafting somebody else next year.
29:43You'll often hear Matt on this very program denigrate the logo scouters of the world. If you listen carefully, you'll hear him uh denigrate the uh
29:5040time scouters of the world. That would be me, Bob Harris. I'm the 40 scouter of the world. Deshan Stribbling, Old Miss
29:57wide receiver. Uh he qualifies in my book, the 436ish uh speed. impressive at the size 207 pounds. Uh
30:07landing spot seems like an opening, but the draft capital is what catches everyone attention. He gets a draft capital bump going in the second round.
30:14Matt feeler, [ __ ] it.
30:15>> I'm feeling it, even though I'm probably not going to draft him. Um he he certain I'm feeling that idea because the early
30:22draft capital signifies that they want to have him um involved reasonably early at least as a role player or that they
30:29believe that the promise for him to become a good player is going to be high. The problem is that Mike Evans is
30:34in town um and that's the X. So if Stribbling is best fit is as an X or a big slot, you still got Ricky Pierce
30:43Hall. you probably don't have Brandon Iayuk, but um you know, you still got enough talent on that roster that I'm not sure you're seeing anything more
30:52than than team wide receiver three value this year. And I'm not sure and he's going to probably be asked to learn all
30:59three roles. and I didn't think he was all that versatile in one role um with miss and miss is if we're gonna if we're
31:09gonna um logo scout an an organization it would be that they've not been very good at delivering wide receivers who
31:18actually understand um the conceptual um intricacies of pro football or are nearly ready for that at all um when they come out. And so I'm a little bit
31:30worried about that with Stribbling. He seems like a size speed guy. And Bob, you wear the costume well as a 40 as a
31:3640 guy to denigrate. But we all know that that's just that you're just you're just sitting in the dunk tank and you
31:43like the water.
31:44>> The old miss related shot at Trey Harris wasn't lost on me either. I try to support all the Harrises even when Matt
31:50Walman takes bale dunk.
31:52>> Now we know the Harris thing is real.
31:54That's for sure.
31:55>> Dispersions on my Harrises. Uh, we'll see what stribbling is. I It's interesting and I know, you know, while we're out there indicting people, I
32:03think people are saying, well, if Ricky Pieraw had been more available, perhaps they wouldn't have felt this need. I mean, Jawan Jennings, same story. I
32:10mean, they get they get a lot. I think the overlooked thing about scribbling maybe is that he is a excellent run
32:16blocker. It's >> the best in the class, >> right? So, I think that matters to Kyle Shanahan and my old high school teammate
32:24Chris Fster. uh you longtime offensive line coach and uh now an assistant head coach there uh for Kyle Shannon. So So
32:32we'll see how that goes. Uh so drafting a tight end. So two tight end first two tight ends off the board. Uh you know,
32:38no surprise how that how that played out, right? Um the second one was Eli Sters. Should should any wide rece tight end should
32:49have been drafted after Eli Sters.
32:50Tortured that. Feel it or [ __ ] it? I think for fantasy GMs, I wouldn't be drafting a tight end after Eli Sters.
32:57And I'm rating Sters first. Um, that's where I'm looking. I mean, if you want to take a chance on Sadiq, I can see the
33:03upside with that, but I think the downside is as strong, if not even stronger than his upside. Um, there are a lot of good tight ends in this group.
33:11It's a very deep group. The problem is is that you saw by the way these players were getting drafted that a lot of them
33:18might be block first tight ends that are getting drafted earlier now. Maybe they go the route of Tucker Craft and and
33:25Tyler Warren and they get fed the ball in open space and they start and they rumble. Sam Roush is an example of a
33:32player like that. Will Casmar is an example of a player like that. um those are guys that might get that opportunity. But we we're this is a year
33:43where I believe that the players and the players getting drafted show that teams are in flux with what they're about to
33:51do offensively and trying to predict what that's going to be might be fraught with error when it comes to drafting a
33:59tight end this year. I can tell you Nate Borker uh that was a very wellreceived selection in the Jacksonville media said
34:08somebody who works with a member of the Jacksonville media and couldn't have been more horrified at that selection and if they thought that one was bad
34:17Tanner Cohole in round five >> they doubled down baby >> they doubled down so there's going to be exceptions people are going to draft
34:24some some of these tight ends in their fantasy leagues let's decide whether they should or not Do you believe Max Claire went to the Rams to join a cast
34:33of thousands at the position is an exception to the point of not drafting tight ends, feel it or [ __ ] it?
34:38>> [ __ ] it. I don't think so. As much as I like Claire and I think that he might have the best shot of being the the a
34:44real move tight end in that offense. Ty Simpson's likely coming in next year. We don't know whether Tai is going to favor
34:51that tight end or not. Um so that's kind of tough. you still have this offense may change and and add or different
34:58players. So, I I think Claire Clare if you could get Claire later than what his value probably is, um then I I think it
35:07might be a possibility, but I I would lean towards no.
35:11>> All right, fair enough. What about Oscar Delp, who goes to the Saints? Is he an exception? I would say this is probably
35:19this is one I'd like to say is a possibility because you look at Noah Fant who's just a journeyman first year
35:27starter bridge player now with teams um he'll pro even though he has a two-year deal in with New Orleans he's probably
35:34only starting for one year. You've got Jawan Johnson who's their their biggest production guy, which means that that probably Delp won't play much this year
35:44except in maybe as a third tight end in sets and then they'll lean on him more, but it's like a two-year plan they've
35:50got for him.
35:52>> I'm going to say [ __ ] it. As much as I'd like to say feel it, unless unless one of these guys gets hurt and del winds up
35:58on your waiver wire, um, you know, then I think the skills are there for him to prove something.
36:04>> Uh, fifth rounder Justin Jolie. I feel like but you landed Denver like Denver has been where tight ends go to die. It
36:09seems like not you know it's like a black hole of tight ends. Is that going to be the case for Jolie or or could he
36:14maybe be the exception?
36:16>> I would love to say he'd be the exception because Evan Ingram probably isn't going to be around forever. Um but
36:21they do spread, you know, they kind of spread the ball around a lot to their tight ends in terms of who, how do I say
36:29it, they they give the tight end crumbs, but they mash those crumbs up into nanosized pieces. Um, and so no one even
36:36gets a crumb. Um, I I think that Julie has the talent to be the exception, but I again agree with you that it's
36:43probably not not a good >> I I'm going to bet that you think Michael Trigg is the exception to the same point. Except he was not drafted.
36:50He went undrafted and was signed by the Dallas Cowboys.
36:54>> I would take a chance on Trigg only because yeah, he was undrafted. You're going to be able to get him late. Um,
36:59and the reason he was undrafted, at least according to one scout who who was very vocal on X yesterday, um, is that
37:08everyone I I'll just quote it. Everyone knew in the NFL that he's an [ __ ] Um, so what that tells you is that it
37:17was not skill.
37:18>> He landed in the right spot then.
37:19Welcome to Dallas, my friend.
37:21>> They said they everyone knows he can play. Everyone knew he was an [ __ ] Um, so if he can if he can wake up and
37:28and hear that and see that maybe he needs to unavail himself of that label and prove to people how good he is, he
37:36might have a shot in a couple years.
37:38But, you know, again, a nonsholist Jake Ferguson who's versatile, >> very nice man, >> is a very, you know, probably going to
37:46be a guy that you're you're not going to displace. So Triggs, Trig's a late round big roster exception to the rule that
37:54you just hold on to if you if you don't see anybody else who has high upside available.
37:59>> Also, before the comments start rolling in, I was talking about me when I talked about the [ __ ] in Dallas. Come on.
38:06Not the rest of you out there in Dallas.
38:08I'm sure you're very nice. Uh except for Jerry Jones. Uh the Bears had a good draft. Feel it or [ __ ] it, Matt.
38:14>> They did. Even though um Adam Rank and I had to tag team Philosian and uh and Shane Marsaw on the on the Tape Never
38:23Lies network um podcast that we were on there. It's a Bears podcast. Here's the thing. Um, I I think a lot of people
38:31would have liked to have seen the Bears take a pass rusher. Um, and instead they took a second center after they added
38:40Garrett Bradberry in free agency and they took a center, you know, in the second round. Then they also took a tight end in Sam Roush after they
38:50already took Coloulston Lovelin and and resigned Cole KT. People are like, "What gives? This seems awful." But if you look at it a little bit deeper, Garrett
39:00Bradberry is not getting any younger.
39:01And when you have a better prospect that comes along on your board that you didn't expect to be there at center, one
39:07of the most underrated and important positions along the offensive line, a guy that that Dane Bugler compared to Tyler Lindenbomb, you take that guy.
39:18Especially when you could probably package and trade Bradberry if you really need to. Or if you want Bradberry to help show this kid the ropes a little
39:25bit early on and then if Bradberry gets hurt, well, your team's not sunk at center, one of the most important positions, and you can keep Caleb
39:34Williams rolling. The same is can be said about tight end. Cole KT had his his deal re um structured this off
39:41seasonason. So it made cap space made cap space for the team and it made it easier to trade Cole KT if they needed
39:49to. But they could also use three tight end sets if they want to inside and Roush and Lovelin are both really good
39:57as red zone go up and get it threats.
40:00Um, you know, to me, Sam Roush was the top ranked tight end if you're looking for an inline tight end. So, again,
40:09better blocker than Cole KT. You're going to put him in there. And I just I just look at it this way. The the
40:16Chicago Bears are going to go to fields near you in the NFL, and the fields are going to be green to start the game, and
40:25they are going to be brown and lumpy at the end of the game. And you might find the defense underneath some of that with
40:32the way they run through teams and then use the play action game. I think it's fantastic. I think >> he even get to Xavier Thomas who by the
40:41way you might be surprised to learn Matt runs a 42840.
40:45>> He does and sometimes he catches the ball too.
40:48>> I don't care about that.
40:49>> So I know you don't but that's all right. So you know Henry Rugs all the way. You know that's that's that's where
40:56that's the type of thing we all want.
40:57Now Thomas can play special teams. He's a better pass catcher than Bailis Jones was. Um but that's by degree but that's
41:05by degrees of hell. He might be in the first second gate of hell as opposed to the seventh gate of hell. Um but yeah,
41:11there we go.
41:12>> Fair enough. It was a good draft. I agree with you. Antonio Williams goes to the Commanders. One of the best landing
41:17spots among the early round wide receivers. Feel it or [ __ ] it?
41:20>> I'm feeling it because I think they need a flanker or or and a slot. Either one.
41:24And I think Williams can do both. Um, maybe he wasn't the best player to pick for that flanker slot role. He's better
41:33slot than he is flanker, but he can do both and should be able to grow into it.
41:36I like his skills. He can go up and get the ball. Um, he can give you potential.
41:40He gives you skills after the catch.
41:42Kind of a Jaden Reedesque type of player, an aspiring, he's aspiring to be that. And the and Washington has not drafted a wide receiver that's worked
41:51out well enough for them or added one in free agency that has worked out for them long term. So, Williams is Williams is
41:58probably one of the best options that they've um picked in a while.
42:02>> What about Zachariah Branch in Atlanta?
42:04>> Up and down. I mean, I think that I think that we can see him having some decent potential for production. Um
42:13because that team, you know, you've got Zakayas back. Um you've got Drake London and then that's basically it, you know.
42:21Um you know, so you could see how Zakayas plays a flanker role. you could see um how you know or you could put you
42:31know bet London you'd like to see more in the slot role. So again I just don't know from a standpoint of how they
42:37respect defenses are going to respect these receivers. Um there's potential there for him to be very good but the route running is going to have to
42:45improve dramatically. He's he's again one of the bigger boom bust picks to take in the early rounds.
42:51>> Let's touch on something you've been harping on since last year. here. I'm getting tired of it. So, let's get it
42:56out of your system. Chris Brazzle 2 will save Teteroa McMillan's career in Carolina. Feel it or [ __ ] it.
43:03>> Well, it's a it's a hyperbolic statement for sure. So, [ __ ] that statement.
43:07Whoever wrote that was really getting under Bob Harris's skin, you know, he was definitely getting under Bob Harris's skin. Yeah. Look, McMillan's
43:17career does not need saving. That's for sure. Um but augmenting his career absolutely because we saw that McMillan made did made made most of his bones as
43:28a as a receiver who faced zone coverage or contested catches um against off coverage. And when he did get tight man
43:39coverage, it was against linebackers and safeties. I think Carolina realized that they had to manufacture a lot of this for for McMillan because they saw that
43:48he was not going to get off the line of scrimmage against tight man-to-man coverage very often. And he didn't. When they put him in those situations, he
43:54failed um more often than not. J um Jaylen Coker is the best press man guy that they had on that team at that
44:02point. Um, I think Brazil comes in. You can put him on the outside, play the true X and you can have um, Coker as the
44:11flanker and then you can move McMillan inside as the power slot in like a Drake London-like role. And at that point now
44:18you're looking at wide receiver one value um as a guy that now I'm going to look at and say yes he I agree he can be
44:26a fantasy wide receiver one but you've got to understand that they're doing it as a slot not as a as an X and that was
44:34has been my contention all along with him.
44:36>> All right. Well that's a good starting point for just after a beautiful run of NFL draft. super exciting even if it was
44:44a lousy draft as everyone claims it was and apparently if you're a running back probably yeah you agree um unless like
44:51you're one of three guys um we'll talk about some more of these players going forward probably going to touch on Jarian Price at some point the new
44:59Seattle running back and have a good time with >> we may do all running backs all the time next week just for the fun of it
45:04>> it's possible it's possible I was so go to footballguys.com check out my fantasy notebook column this week on rookie landing spots Next week I'm going to do
45:13uh rebound player. So that's always something I enjoy doing as a good way to gain value as you head into your drafts.
45:20I've been out there drafting in best balls. I can now see how much and and I've drafted in a dynasty draft before
45:27the draft where I have uh Michael Trigg >> character.
45:34Well, team [ __ ] Come on.
45:36>> Yeah. There you go.
45:37>> What else are we gonna do? Also have Ty Simpson. It's a super flex. Nice.
45:42>> So, the landing spot does not bother me much. Deont Clayborn, the landing spot there doesn't bother much in Minnesota.
45:50Yeah. And uh who's your guy? Who's your wide receiver you like? Uh >> Skyler >> Coleman.
45:55>> Coleman.
45:56>> I know.
45:58>> Why is it Why is it eluding me?
46:01>> Uh he went to uh where did he go? I gota I got to think about it here. Let me get it. Let me get
46:09it. Let me bring it up. I don't know why I can't think about Oh, it was Josh Cameron.
46:13>> Oh, Josh Cameron.
46:14>> And he went to Jacksonville, so I'm not that enthusiastic.
46:16>> Yeah. Okay. Yeah.
46:18>> Not not the best landing spot for him.
46:19>> No, not not at all.
46:21>> But when you're drafting before the draft, that's what happens. But we'll talk about all this stuff. We'll feel it all. [ __ ] it all. Uh get you ready for
46:26your season as we head into the uh OTAA season. It begins in earnest. Mini camps will be coming this week, so we'll have
46:33plenty of grist for the mill right here on there. You go >> there. Get your rookie scouting portfolio. Your postdraft edition will
46:41be out momentarily.
46:43>> Yeah.
46:44>> Check your email people. All your addresses. You might have already got something. Thank you, Matt. Love you.
46:48Bye.
46:48>> Love you. Bye.
