0:00Mhm, good morning Matt Waldman. Time to be feeling a [ __ ] things and there's plenty to get busy with. What do you got
0:05going over at the RSP headquarters?
0:07>> Nothing. No, actually. We're um just finished spending uh all this week studying Brendan Salisbury. So, we're going to start off
0:15with him, I think, today.
0:17>> I wouldn't have bet on that.
0:18>> Yeah, I wouldn't have bet on that. But, uh you know, looked at about five charted about five games of him. Um and
0:25and I'm going to be taking this week off, probably. And then when I get I've got other things to attend to, you know,
0:33that are outside this cave. Um you know, things that are I'm a little behind on, you know.
0:39>> It's weird.
0:39>> Yeah, I know. Like real life type of stuff. Last week and this week kind of catching up with all of that.
0:44>> Imagine that.
0:45>> Car maintenance, stuff like that.
0:47Dentist appointments, all that kind of stuff.
0:49>> Oh, okay.
0:51>> so yeah, that's why things aren't happening and Bob Harris has has some ideas for me that that I need to get get
0:58rolling on and I've had to But, I'm taking a little bit off and then I'm going to be working on projections and rankings
1:06for the RSP subscribers um to that service that's available for 24.95.
1:11And you what you get with that is projections for every startable and reserve player on every team um in the NFL. And then I rank them for
1:22dynasty leagues and um start up, you know, kind of more of a rebuilding um ranking type of perspective as well as win now type of
1:32perspective. Um so, and you get the first update in June.
1:37Um you also get the last update in June.
1:39So, if you were subscribed last year, this will be your last one. Then you got to you got to fork over the money again
1:45if you want the um next year's. But, you'll get them June. You'll get at least two updates in August. You'll get
1:52one in September. Um likely in October.
1:55And then there's usually one or two between November and January that I provide.
2:01And then the last one's in June. So, if you just want the answers, I'm going to I give you both a cheat sheet style
2:08ranking with tiers, and then I give you a linear ranking with commentary that I update the commentary every two to three cycles that I do an
2:19update. And I, you know, with the other stuff. So, that'll be out sometime in early June. Football Guys rankings and comments that I do, I comment on every
2:30player. Um that'll be out sometime in early June, obviously, as well, as I This is a good exercise for me to get
2:37ready for all of that. Um and then, you know, I don't know. Somebody's trying to scam, so we'll just >> It's not me.
2:44>> We'll tell them to [ __ ] >> Well, I might be, but I haven't like done it on the phone.
2:47>> We'll tell them to [ __ ] off. So, there we go. I should have just answered and told them to [ __ ] off. That might have
2:51been more fun there.
2:54>> Take an opportunity to tell someone to off when you get a chance.
2:56>> That's right. Yeah, exactly. But, you know, >> hanging up on those.
2:59>> Yeah, I'm not going to do that. But, um yeah, so that's what's that's what's happening, Bob. How about you? What
3:04about your world?
3:05>> Uh usual stuff. Just got grinding away.
3:08Fantasy notebook out at Football Guys every week. Uh rankings are available.
3:12My rankings are up there at the projections, all kinds of stuff available Football Guys. So, go check that out. My hot seat program has
3:19resumed. I've got a couple good shows in the can there with Mike Dempsey and Terra Roberts. Check those out this week. It'll be the great Pat Fitzmaurice
3:27uh from Fantasy Pros, one of my faves.
3:29So, uh that'll be up about the middle of the week. So, uh all kinds of stuff going on. It never ends. The fun never ends
3:36when you're Bob Harris.
3:37And it And let's uh extend that now. Uh so, you mentioned uh this Brendan Sorsby, the Texas Tech quarterback. Um sounds like there's
3:46some legal hurdles for him, you know, in the collegiate world. But, but if he's if he goes in the supplemental draft, if
3:53he applies for it, would he be worth a worth a pick for a team?
3:57>> Absolutely, he would be. Um, you know, after watching his game, he started at Indiana or he began his career at
4:03Indiana and then he the bulk of his career where he's had playing time has been with Cincinnati. So, he moved on to
4:10Texas Tech, but the investigation into his his gambling, most of it was on DraftKings, most of it was small-time betting.
4:18A lot of it was betting on his own team.
4:22So, um, you know, things that they they frown upon, but >> would say that that doesn't really matter.
4:28>> Yeah, you know, I mean, I understand you know, to me, you should just avoid this [ __ ] all together, but in the
4:37scheme of things, I'm I'm not so concerned about it in this in the way things are going, you know. So, if he
4:45can't get back onto Texas Tech's playing field and be the starter this year, um, then based on the five games I studied I
4:53charted um, this week you know, at Cincinnati, he's he's a good player. He's someone that when you when you he's 6'3, he's
5:05235 lbs, he's pretty mobile, he's not going to give you breakaway runs on a regular basis, um, compared to somebody like Josh Allen
5:14or or, you know, um, even a Caleb Williams, but he's someone that can move move the chains pretty well. And then as a thrower, he you
5:24know, he plays in a he played in a spread offense. He's going to Texas Tech spread offense. So, a lot of his work is
5:29under pistol. If you're going to ask him to give three, five, seven-step drops, um, he's going to have to work on that.
5:36Um, from what I've seen, that the drop game needs a little bit of work, so the fundamentals to that are are something
5:44that you know, he's going to have to pick up and get a little bit better at when he did get a chance to drop from
5:49center. I watched him trip over linemen's feet. I've watched him you know, have some stumbles out of there just cuz he's not acclimated to doing it
5:59on regular basis. But in the pocket, once he drops once he drops back from you know, pistol sets and you get him
6:05give him a chance to assess the field, he reads information well for a college starter.
6:12He processes the field reasonably well in terms of when he sees cover one versus say cover three or cover two, he
6:19understands you know, he can spot pre-snap pressures and make adjustments. He's good at being able to find the open hole in zone and
6:29throw the ball where he's not throwing hospital balls, where he's throwing the ball where the the leverage advantage is to the receiver to protect the receiver
6:38or to get it away from the defender. He can he can you know, hit those tight windows and in in against man coverage or even
6:47zone coverage that's playing tight at the at the at the catch point and he knows where to place the ball pretty well. He's got a
6:54good arm. You you know, and he's got good accuracy down field. And it's not just like pinpoint from this in this
7:01standpoint of like throwing the ball in stride or hitting back shoulder throws.
7:06It's also when he spots blitzes or certain looks where early early enough in the either late pre-snap or late post-snap process that he sees
7:17that a receiver's going to get behind the defense or he's scrambling on a scramble drill and spots a receiver behind the defense and he knows that
7:25he's got a safety over the top. And he does a good job of throwing the ball in a way where it's not pinpoint in stride,
7:32but he's giving the receiver a chance to just turn around and catch the ball as if he was you know, you're out on the
7:38beach or something and throwing and playing catch with somebody. And to me that's often a very smart indication that this guy understands let's just
7:46throw the ball safely and and get a good 30 40 yard gain and not run him into a safety or make the catch any harder than
7:54it needs to be.
7:55Um you know, so when I look at those aspects of his game those are very strong. If you're going to talk about
8:02how is he how good is he is versus current pros that's where you're you know, he's going to have to get better
8:09at cover for four he's going to have to get better at different disguises like most other quarterbacks do and you're going to see instances where maybe he's
8:18too aggressive in the red zone things that top quarterback prospects often aren't good at and I already mentioned the drops and he's playing in a spread
8:27system. So if he was getting you know, his play action can be slightly better.
8:32He has pretty good mechanics as he releases the ball and he can throw it at a variety of arm angles. He reminds me
8:38of like what how promising Jay Cutler once was when he first entered the league. I think he's got that kind of
8:46promise. So that's a you know, and that and that's it worth an early pick for a team in the supplemental draft.
8:53>> So if he lands and so and by the way I heard this morning Mark Kaboly who covers the Steelers say the Steelers
8:58might be secretly interested or have an eye on him.
9:02>> they should be.
9:03>> And so let's say he lands somewhere. Is he worth you're in a dynasty league super flex non super flex you can kind of define
9:10that for me. Uh you've already had your rookie draft would he be worth burning some fab on?
9:15>> Absolutely. Um he's someone that probably is worth saving up some fab on because if I were to rank him based on what I saw right now and I I
9:24watched five games and and charted them and they it was good charting for him.
9:30Um he was one of the best if not the best in most of the accuracy chartings that I I Um his decision-making
9:38I would have wanted to watch maybe I would have wanted to watch a couple more games and chart and I probably would
9:45have wanted to watch a lot more um, and pinpoint some things that I have some questions about because if I if I had zero questions about the things
9:55that I saw, he would he would be neck and neck with Mendoza. He would be under he would be number two. Um,
10:05if there were things that I that I felt like he showed repeatedly that were a problem that I didn't think were as much of a problem uh, on this
10:16first round of viewing, he might have he might have been slightly above um, Ty Simpson. Um, or or maybe even slightly
10:26below Simpson pre-draft, but I'd say most likely he is where I have him, which is um, kind of on par where I had
10:35you know, Michael Penix a couple years ago as a as a guy that could handle starting right away if you threw him in
10:43um, as long as the system is conducive to what he does well. I can't say that that was always the case with Pen- with
10:50Penix. Um, but so, you know, he's he would even right now he's firmly number two pre-draft. Post-draft where he goes
10:59could put him behind Ty Simpson just because Simpson has such a nice landing spot long-term to sit and learn behind a
11:08a veteran player. Um, so if he winds up in Cleveland, you know, maybe you'd I could see the argument that he's number
11:15three in a long-term build dynasty, number two in a in a win-now situation and hope that it that he survives that
11:24that's that situation in Cleveland. Um, if he winds up in Pittsburgh, you could probably say and if Rodgers is still going to play.
11:33Um that could be a good setting for a Sauce B as well where you could probably put him equal with the Rams and have him
11:41as a number two in in that realm as well.
11:44>> All right, fair enough. That's interesting. Um so Cam Ward reporting this week is is that he's making progress in Brian Daboll's offense.
11:53Brian Daboll there because Cam Ward is there so we've been told by Robert Saleh is Cam Ward in good hands with Brian
11:59Daboll?
12:00>> I think he I feel it. I think he is because it's more about Cam Ward than it is about the coach. Um
12:06Cam Ward is a is a dedicated professional who's work who basically really want he wants to be very good at football and and you can see you
12:17could see that for years in college, you could see it with his attitude pre-draft and the way that he wanted to approach things. Um
12:26this is a mature kid who who's willing to do what it takes to become very good and I think that the the Titans did a
12:33good job of getting the right combination of recei- receiving talent for him to have a full-fledged game. And Daboll
12:43you know, Daboll's issue more than anything is like most offensive coordinators, you get saddled with quarterback projects when you're known as a quarterback guy because
12:53you know, the Bills did the right thing with Josh Allen and Josh Allen did the right thing to for himself and things
13:01worked out. Now you're labeled a quarterback guy and then you get saddled with Daniel with Daniel Dones or Daniel Jones or whatever version he was and may
13:09still end up being down the line.
13:12Um and then that doesn't work out and then you've got Jackson Dart who you probably didn't want um from what it sounds like. It sounds
13:20like more that there were a couple other um there were a couple of guys in that Giants room that didn't want him and
13:27they got saddled with him, too. You make the most of what you have.
13:30>> chicken salad.
13:31>> They did for a little bit. They did, but they still got rid of They still got rid of Dable. Um so, I think that Cam Ward
13:37is an upgrade to Jackson Dart. Um and I think he's in good hands with Dable.
13:43>> Let me ask you this then, sir.
13:46Uh so, let's say you were in a superflex dynasty league and you just moved up from 103 to 102. You swapped the picks
13:52and sent the Tua Tagovailoa to the other party in that draft who happens to have Michael Penix, so good move for them. Also, I don't know what
14:01Tua Tagovailoa is doing for the team that shall be remain nameless, but might be mine. And now, I'm at number two and the the move was to land
14:11Fernando Mendoza, right? Cuz I'm like I have Lamar Jackson, but I also have Aaron Rodgers and and not much else at
14:18quarterback. So, I want to set something up for the long term. The trade offer came in after I acquired number two from the
14:25number one who happens to have uh Cam Ward. Cam Ward for the 102 plus another Cam Ward plus another player for
14:34the 102.
14:36>> So, you're going to You're going to give him the 102?
14:39>> or Fernando Mendoza?
14:41>> I would Ooh, that's close. I would say probably if you're in a win-now situation, but it's a startup.
14:48>> It's a startup.
14:49>> It's not a startup, but I I'm I'm probably like I'm still building a little bit.
14:54>> Um if you think that and you're getting you're you're giving up You're basically giving up Fernando Mendoza
15:03>> for Basically, Mendoza for Ward plus I could get maybe Gunnar Helm or some ancillary player thrown in.
15:10>> I'd still I'd probably still stick with Mendoza.
15:14>> That's where I'm at. That's where That's what I'm thinking right now. It's Would the mobility be a factor in that?
15:19>> No, because um Mendoza's mobile himself even though >> No, I Well, that's what I'm thinking.
15:25Maybe Mendoza is more more more mobile.
15:27>> Yeah, I would >> we've seen from Cam Ward, anyway.
15:30>> Yeah, I think that I think it's close, but um but I would still go Mendoza, probably every time in that scenario.
15:40>> That's where my unnamed friend named Bob Harris was was thinking of going.
15:44>> Yeah, I think you're all right.
15:45>> Um all right. Now that we've cleared up all of my issues, uh Carnell Tate uh will lead rookies in wide receiver
15:51production this year. Feel it or [ __ ] it.
15:53>> I'm feeling that he's got a strong chance to do that. Yes, because in this offense, he's going to be the main guy.
15:59I mean, certainly Wan'Dale knows Daboll's offense um or the variation of it of that they'll probably run, and he'll probably have a chance to be a
16:07catch leader in that in that sphere.
16:11Certainly, Calvin Ridley has enough left that if he's focused, he's he and he and um Reggie No, I was going to say Reggie
16:20White. Jerry Jeudy. He and Jerry Jeudy are kind of cut from the same cloth.
16:25>> Got you.
16:25>> Just kind of like if they're inspired, they play inspired, they they can be awesome, but I don't think Calvin Ridley's been inspired for a few years,
16:33at least. Um >> It seems not. He had brief moments last year, but they were brief indeed, and it was not great stuff. Um I'm I'm kind of
16:40with you on on Tate. I think like if I'm drafting a rookie receiver, that's the one I probably want to get. Um would you
16:45say So, and just, you know, kind of spin off that a little bit, what would be the argument for taking somebody over Mecole Hardman as the
16:55second rookie receiver off the board?
16:57>> Um that the that the you know, the argument would be that you don't believe that the Eagles have solved their offensive woes um with
17:06their offensive coordinator, that this team might be on a bit of a downswing from a coordinator standpoint, um a chemistry standpoint, and that when you
17:15lose A.J. Brown, that they're going to ask Mekhi Leamon to do A.J. Brown-esque things, and he's not A.J. Brown. Um that would
17:23be the the argument, but I don't think it's a good argument. Um I think that, you know, Leamon will probably, unless
17:31this whole thing falls apart, and even if it does, um they will likely hire talent that will take advantage of what
17:40Mekhi Leamon does. They'll be heavily invested in what he does well. So, I would still probably stick with Leamon.
17:47In terms of Tate, though, back to him real quick, you know, Cam Ward likes to go down field, and Tate is excels at that. And then And
17:57then also, Tate excels at the routes that break back to the quarterback. Um so, you're going to see him use quite a
18:04bit as the primary in this offense. Um so, I I think it's a safe bet to say that he's no worse than a low-end wide
18:12receiver two in fantasy this year.
18:15>> I think that's a reasonable expectation.
18:17Uh I And you won't have to pay that. I mean, I don't think he's going that high, and so uh that would be So, that's
18:22a price I'm willing to bet on. Quentin Johnston, according to Mike McDaniel, uh Quentin Johnston is all the qualities of players like Julio Jones and Andre
18:31Johnson. Uh is this worth our attention, or is this just happy talk? Feel or [ __ ] it?
18:36>> Well, Mike McDaniel's just happy to be out of the situation that he was in, and safely landing somewhere where Daddy
18:43Harbaugh's going to take care of him for a little bit of while. Um you know, he got his nice little start there, and I I
18:49don't you know, I like a lot of what Mike McDaniel does as a coordinator.
18:53He's very good in that realm, but I think he was in over his head as a coach, um now that we look back at it in
18:59hindsight. And he needed a little more seasoning as a as a coordinator and a leader, and an understanding of how to
19:06deal with personnel versus his scheme. I think he's a little raw in that area, kind of more of one of those West Coast
19:14guys who who scheme scheme scheme and everybody's a cog, you know, and and he didn't know who to baby and who to work
19:23with and who maybe he needed to be a little harder on. Um Johnston I think comps well to what we the way Julio Jones was
19:34used um in Atlanta, you know, in in breaking routes, occasional you know, occasional work along the
19:43boundary. If Johnston can show up at the boundary and really show that he's rehabbed his game and he was on his way
19:51last year. He made a lot of strides. He can do that. I think Julio Jones is is a good ceiling comp for him. Um not
19:59necessarily believing that he's going to get there, but I think he'll get closer than people realize and I think he's I think the team has has fully invested
20:10in him being one of their top two receiving options. Um and he's shown the ability to get better at that. So,
20:19you know, I had a I had a good grade for Johnston when he came out, but I didn't have but I had major concerns that I
20:27highlighted a lot about the catch point and that it would take him longer to get up to speed than a lot of people were
20:34saying right away out of the gate. And I think he's getting up to speed.
20:39>> Yeah, it certainly looks like getting and again, we're all interested in this Chargers offense, not just Mike McDaniel, but the pieces they've added
20:45on the offensive line and uh uh the health of the tackles, which we expect to which was a big issue last year and
20:52the I'm told the quarterback is very good there. His name is Justin Herbert.
20:55>> And they signed that in Njoku guy who can run well in a straight line.
20:59>> Yeah. They did that and that you know, that's that's a superpower in Mike McDaniel's offense, it turns out.
21:07All right, uh Nate Peterman now worked out for the Denver Broncos in mini camp.
21:10They say he looked good. Should we monitor him? Is this like nothing nothing burger or is there something something you're interested in here?
21:17>> The reason why I want to bring him up is that you know, there was a lot of hot talk about him years and years ago in Buffalo
21:24and then he really played poorly and they just got rid of him and it was over.
21:30Um but >> My guy Will five interception game or something ridiculous.
21:34>> Yeah. My My guy Will Hewlett has been working with him for years and he mentioned a few years ago that
21:41Nate Peterman was one of those guys that has been labeled in the league.
21:46Um but he actually believes has starter ability at this point. Um but no one's going to give him a
21:55chance or very very unlikely to give him a chance to ever compete for that type of gig cuz once you get labeled, it's
22:04kind of over. But sometimes these players sneak through because there is a coach that may say, "I don't care what the label says. He looked good and on
22:12top of that, we don't we need a backup."
22:14And then somehow that backup winds up in a game and plays well. So, I would say if Nate Peterman winds up Sean Payton's
22:21backup um you know, Bo Nix's backup um it might be time to when you hear his name get called due to an injury that
22:31you have more confidence in giving him a shot rather than just writing him off summarily. So, that's that's the only thing that I would say about monitoring
22:39him.
22:40>> Yeah, I'd have to tell you here's what I'm monitoring in that situation. I mean, Bo Nix I don't know that all the
22:44things we were told early on in the process of his ankle surgery have come to pass.
22:50Uh and and and so, you know, when I start seeing those differences and start seeing extra quarterbacks, now Sean Payton talking about maybe
22:58maybe it'll be okay to have an extra quarterback. You just wonder how that healing process is going. I don't you know, it's not something that would keep
23:03me off drafting him right now, uh but it's definitely something I'd be I'd be monitoring, that's for sure.
23:09All right. C.J. Daniels, Rams wide receiver, practice video. We got a lot of practice video talk this week. Um he looks like a good piece in this offense.
23:18Is this practice video being overblown?
23:20>> Well, you know, it's a good question, um because I really screwed this up cuz I I meant C.J. Allen, the the Indianapolis
23:29Colts linebacker, and I screwed that up.
23:32Um I see I'm feeding Bob stuff to to just make us look bad, but like I I haven't seen any C.J. Daniels practice
23:40video, but C.J. Allen and the Colts, he had some practice video where he was slow. He looked slow moving around with
23:48his drops. Um and yes, [ __ ] yes, it's overblown. It's It's one of It's the same thing that we see with um
23:57Mendoza, where he looks awkward running.
24:00He looked awkward running at Indiana.
24:02I've We've talked about that that he he looked like Bernie Kosar with like a jetpack on him. Um you know, but he still was getting a lot
24:11of yards. He just looks gangly the way he runs. People judge these practice videos so harshly and don't even understand the context of what's going
24:20on. And you know, I'm sure C.J. Daniels is making nice catches and with the Rams.
24:26>> Well, this this would all explain why I was unable to find any interesting practice video >> I'm I'm [ __ ] with Bob. That's what's
24:32happening. Feel it or [ __ ] it. Matt Waldman [ __ ] with you on air.
24:36>> I did see Drew Aller though, and I saw a lot of conversation including Kurt Warner I jumping in on the conversation,
24:43and you know, he was working some drills and going through some, you know, looked like working on technique, and people were complaining about the way he was
24:50moving. Is that overblown?
24:52>> Oh, absolutely it is. As much as I don't think Drew Aller is was a a strong pick at the range that they picked him. If if
25:00you're going to give him a chance to to work on things, you got to start slow.
25:05Every time you work on technique, you move slowly. That's the That's the thing that you because your muscle memory has
25:14to absorb the information. And you have to build that muscle memory slowly. The the you know, this goes back to learning
25:22technique with music. When you learn something, you play it as slow as you can and as evenly as you can so that
25:30you've that your body, you know, picks up the rhythm of what you're trying to do and you internalize it and you're
25:38doing everything as precise as you possibly can and that starts slowly. And even the best musicians with the most blindingly fast technique
25:50play everything super slow. It's It's counterintuitive, but that's how that works.
25:55>> Also, if you're taking a you know, you're you're reprogramming, right?
25:59Basically, you know, he has done things a certain way and Mike McCarthy wants things done a different way and he's programming it in. Makes perfect sense
26:06to me. I thought the talk was overblown.
26:08I thought Kurt Warner was interesting.
26:10He seemed to be a little critical of the approach.
26:13>> Yeah.
26:13>> Uh not necessarily the the drill or not necessarily the the performance of the drill, but the purpose of the drill. Did
26:21you see any of that?
26:21>> Yeah, there's two There's two ways of looking at this with Kurt, okay? The first way is that Kurt has learned
26:28things a certain way and then he he has talked about on his on his social media that he found his own way of approaching certain
26:39techniques and that those are things that he learned as he was in the pros and so he has a different point of view
26:47than what say McCarthy does.
26:49The other point of view is you could take the Kurt Warner's approach and say, well, we know that Kurt Warner's a good
26:56guy and everything, but Kurt is very good at promoting himself and he has a Patreon page where he's charging a lot
27:03of money to for people to learn things and he's coming up with a program of content and so now whenever there's an
27:10opportunity for him to say, hey, this this isn't exactly something I agree with. This is what I would teach and here, let me show you how I would teach
27:19that. If you go over to my Patreon, I I can show you for a certain price on how to do that. That's the that's the
27:25skeptical way of looking at it. Um, but either way, he obviously, you know, Kurt's a Hall of Famer and he know and
27:33there's things that he's learned that are probably very worthwhile even though they go against the grain of what other people teach.
27:41>> Is it Is it possible some of this is is scheme dependent or where they played and offenses they played in or just It
27:46seemed like more general to me, but but like maybe that's his experience comes from playing in a different scheme?
27:51>> It It could be partly a different scheme and also just part of what he's comfortable with. You know, one of the
27:56biggest things about quarterback coaching that people need to understand is that you're that one size does not fit all.
28:04Um, so the way Tom Brady did things isn't always mechanically the way another player should try to learn it.
28:11Um, you've got to develop in a way that um, is it makes sense for your body, your body movement, the engineering of
28:20what you're you're doing well and there's tweaking with that. So sometimes you start off learning the way that the coach wants you to learn
28:27and then after you've learned the basic rhythm of it all and the concepts that are embedded within that rhythm, what you're mentally should be doing with
28:35each step cuz that's what McCarthy's trying to drill into him, then you can tweak some things so that it biomechanically fits what you do
28:44best.
28:45>> Jauan Jennings goes to the Vikings. I know there was some disappointment out there. People thought maybe he would land a more prominent role in an offense
28:53like Miami's where there's not a lot there. He's probably not going to be your alpha there in Minnesota. I'm just guessing Justin Jefferson will have
28:59something to say about that. But is he a good fit for the offense?
29:02>> I think in theory he's a great fit.
29:04Let's talk about Miami first cuz that's interesting that people talked about that. I always liked Jauan Jennings when you saw him at Tennessee, but he's not
29:12extraordinarily fast. He's not a complete route runner. Um now Miami wants to run a lot of crossing routes and over routes and seam routes and you
29:22could see how Jennings would be a fit there, but all the guys that they do have there are better athletes than
29:27Jennings in terms of the Bob Harris, you know, centerfold specials. Um so you this they have speed and Jennings doesn't have great speed. Um so you
29:37ideally Jennings does his best work when he's cushioned between guys who do have speed and who do for safeties to account
29:46for those outside guys and then let him dominate one-on-one inside um or if at least create enough room inside that when the quarterback gets the ball to
29:57him and the and the safety recovers, he can there's still enough room there that he can win the ball against two
30:02defenders. And that's what in theory what the Minnesota Vikings offer him unlike any other team because you have two excellent starters in Jefferson and
30:13Addison. Um the question is which quarterback is it going to be?
30:19What you're hoping for in my opinion is J.J. McCarthy getting it all together because he's got a better knack for spreading the ball and distributing it
30:29across the offense and not leaning on just one player and then running around.
30:34And that's where Kyler Murray has to prove that he can graduate beyond that type of play because if he's just going
30:42to do what he did in Arizona, then Rondale Jennings is Michael Wilson, a worse version of Michael Wilson um in terms of how he's going to get
30:53production.
30:54>> I just you know you know got to piggyback off what you were saying. I was listening to Tom Pelissero discuss
30:58and he's you know national reporter but well really well connected in Minnesota.
31:02And uh Rich Eisen asked him if that's a real competition at quarterback. He like Eisen, that's not a competition, right?
31:07This is Kyler Murray's job.
31:10But Pelissero at least credibly suggested it was a competition. I don't think it is. I think a lot of the beat
31:17writers I talked to this is Kyler Murray's coming in and and maybe giving J.J. McCarthy a year but but there is
31:22there are people out there who think this is a legitimate com- competition.
31:25>> I think that and I think I'm going to say it is just because we all know I'm not a fan of Kyler Murray's game.
31:32So we all know that I've I've pretty much buried that horse so deep that I think it's hooves are sticking out in China right now. Um but
31:41but the the thing is is the thing is is that Kyler Murray's likely Kyler Murray looks like the kind of pick
31:50that that they made so that they felt like they could win now. And it's it's kind of a a PR win now now satisfy the
32:01ownership executive move but I think the coaching staff knows that maybe what they that having better options you know was that they've got to satisfy
32:12the maybe we have another option thing but McCarthy's the guy. They got to give him a more of a chance. I mean I doesn't
32:20mean that I loved McCarthy coming out but if you're going to draft that dude in the first round, you got to give him
32:25a longer leash than what you did.
32:27>> Yeah, you never know anything. They might turn into Sam Darnold or something but sometimes that happens like 14 later or three teams later.
32:33>> Yeah, or just a team later.
32:35>> Or just a team later. So that'll be something to watch there this summer. Um I'm putting my money on Kyler Murray
32:41getting the job, but uh but I'm open to the notion that it that it might not happen.
32:45>> I'm I'm I'm I would also if What's that site that you could you can take insider information politically and and bet on
32:53it?
32:54>> You can count see or you have all of the prediction markets.
32:56>> Yeah, the prediction markets. I I'm in one of my prediction markets. I might bet a few dollars if the odds are high
33:02enough and I can create it to that uh that there's a fight in the locker room between Justin Jefferson or Jordan
33:08Addison and uh Kyler Murray. Like some some receivers going to want to kick Kyler Murray's ass um after the first five games when they have like basically
33:17three catches for for 70 yards and that's it, you know.
33:22>> Tank Dell, is he worth a late round pick this year feeling to [ __ ] it?
33:25>> I'm going to say [ __ ] it. Um unless it's a super deep league with, you know, uh super deep league with taxi quad
33:33squad spots and you're rebuilding building and you just want to take a a just a long shot chance that Dell actually is going to be healthy enough
33:42and return to his form. And I just think with the the knee dislocation, the ACL, you know, multiple injuries, it's going
33:51to take multiple tears. It's going to take a little bit of it may he may never get back to where he was muscle memory
33:58wise. That's one of the things that Brandon Angelo talks about a lot and his game is so built on that quick twitch
34:04change of direction movement. Um and I think that the ship sailed. I think Jaylen Jaylen Dan Jaylen Nowell is that guy. Jaylen Nowell's going to be
34:14Dell's replacement um long term and and I don't think he's getting coming off of that spot.
34:20>> think, you know, last year's draft they certainly set themselves up to not not need Tank Dell to come back at the very
34:25least, right? Uh so, yeah, I'm kind of with you. I've I'll let somebody else be the hero there and look, I'm hoping Tank
34:31Dell makes a remarkable rebound, but we may have seen the magical season and that's all we get from one Nathaniel "Tank" Dell. Klay Cade Klubnik, I had
34:42ankle sprain and wrist injuries last year. Um I think everyone thought expected more of him last year. You think the injuries
34:49were a factor in the in the in in the decline?
34:52>> I definitely think the ankle was because watching him watching his release last year and I studied I charted most of the games from
35:00last year.
35:01He had this weird release flaw at points during games where he would push off of his front toe rather than really get his feet deep into the
35:12ground to get the rotation you need to to generate velocity and the ball often sailed there and it didn't have quite
35:19the velocity it needed. Um and I think that that may had to do with him dealing with pain, with how his ankle was taped,
35:26what they needed to do with him to trot him out there. So I think that that may have had a factor in his velocity not
35:33quite being as good as people wanted to see.
35:36Um and so we'll see if you know, what we need to see is how does his velocity look now that he's healthy. Um and also
35:44you can see how that that type of mechanism impacted some of his accuracy. Um and if the wrist if it was his wrist throwing wrist, which is
35:54what I needed to look into if it was, that also can impact you know, placement and velocity. So if that's the case, um
36:03I would be a little bit more excited about him as a player if we see that that um that the velocity is there in camp.
36:11>> Feels like if you're a dynasty investor, especially in superflex, he'd be a guy to have around just based on the
36:16circumstance he finds himself in, right?
36:18Yeah. On a team that's going to need a quarterback or seems to perennially need a quarterback and we've got the stopgap
36:24in, you know, Smith and you know, maybe Smith can put together a more more than one year, but uh it's been a little year
36:30since he's done that. So, we'll see.
36:31DeeJay Dallas, uh in Seattle, the running back. A lot of people interested in Zach Charbonnet. Price, I think the price, if you're out there drafting like
36:39I've been, has been pretty reasonable, kind of baked in the possibility there's going to be some degree of split. Is Dallas a guy that maybe people should be
36:47more interested in drafting later, a sleeper? Feel your pocket.
36:50>> I think so in deep leagues. I think he's one of those guys you need to be monitoring and definitely at the top of
36:55your waiver wire list as you're looking at Seattle running back situations. Um mainly because Dallas has worked his way from being a special teamer um
37:06to being a low-end contributor in that offense even last year. You saw moments where he got opportunities to play. He has good burst. He is a tackle breaker.
37:17He's an excellent receiver. Um I think he's endeared himself to the staff. Um and while Emmanuel he's also a special teams guy. So, he's probably labeled
37:27more special teams, but Emmanuel Wilson is going to be the guy that gets the bulk of the load split with Price at
37:35least while Charbonnet is on the mend.
37:37And it's going to be a while, I think, before Charbonnet plays to his ability.
37:42I think we're going to It might be late October before we really even see Charbonnet be a huge factor. And if that's the
37:49>> If at all.
37:49>> If at all. Yeah. So, if that's the case, then it's the it's going to be the Wilson and Price show, most likely. And
37:57if one of those guys gets banged up, just one, Dallas could factor in there.
38:02He's got the size to be an every down running back. Um and I thought he was one of the unsung players a few years
38:09ago of his draft class that you could that you'd want to keep an eye on, and I think he's worked his way there. I know
38:16Kenny McIntosh is the guy that he competed heavily with, and he lost out to him in the first year by just by a
38:22hair. And then last year, um, you know, it was uh, McIntosh who got the ACL injury.
38:29>> Yeah.
38:30>> So, I think a lot of it is a good good guy to consider.
38:32>> of talk that Holani is like, you know, got the receiving chops. McIntosh is the most explosive. I think I think uh, uh,
38:40McDonald, the coach, said that. He said he's our most explosive back. So, it'll be interesting to see how this backfield plays out. Again, I think people are
38:47being responsible in their drafting Jaret Patterson right now. And probably they all should be, but these other pieces are interesting. We're out there
38:54drafting the the other pieces in ambiguous backfields all day long, and I don't see Holani going much. I I do see
39:01Emanuel Wilson going some, but not as much as I would have thought I would.
39:04So, >> Yeah, Emanuel Wilson is a guy I would be picking up late.
39:08>> Right.
39:08>> Easily. Holani's just someone I want to I I just think it's good at this stage of the game while everybody's talking
39:15about whether or not Drew Aller moved fast enough or CJ Allen is, you know, and they're they're spending the half hour
39:23on that kind of that. CJ Daniels, whether or not he can move at all.
39:27Um, >> Like a buying him receiver.
39:29>> He's he's he's >> watched that, I couldn't find anything wrong with him.
39:32>> He's got glue hands, that's for sure. I don't know if he's got He might have a little glue feet, but uh, but I love his
39:38hands. But yeah, you just look at this and you know, sometimes it's good to highlight players that people go, "Where the hell did that guy come from?" I
39:46think it's worthwhile to just plant that seed in case that happens.
39:49>> Let's plant a seed here on Antonio Williams, the Commanders uh, wideout. Is he a slot only, or could he be like the
39:55Could he be a more versatile threat in in Washington? Feel or [ __ ] it?
39:58>> Oh, yeah, [ __ ] that he's only a slot guy. This is a This is a guy who can definitely play flanker, too. Um, is he
40:06Is he a better flanker than he is a slot? I would say probably not right now. Um, but at the same time,
40:14uh, uh, you're projecting long-term. But at the same time, it might actually be easier to play flanker first year because you don't have as
40:21much to read in the middle of the field as you do in the in the slot. So, who else do they have? Luke McCaffrey?
40:29Luke McCaffrey might might emerge. He might.
40:32>> Noah Brown?
40:33>> Noah Brown, but do you really want Noah Brown as your as your second receiver or more of your third big slot guy? He's a
40:40better big slot than he is a a flanker.
40:43>> I was I'm sorry, it's Dyami Brown.
40:45>> Oh.
40:45>> the wrong Brown.
40:46>> Dyami Brown? Well, you don't Yeah, same thing. I mean, >> both of them.
40:50>> They do have both of them. And that's the thing is Dyami Dyami was um Dyami is a good fourth receiver, you
40:58know, that's basically where his fit is.
41:01He's one of those guys that I think fantasy folks have been waiting for a breakout that's never going to come.
41:05>> I got you.
41:06>> You know, so but I think that Williams is as in terms of what he does as a runner, what he can do as a contested
41:13catch player, um he could be a good flanker to start. Think of a Jayden Reed, Randall Cobb-esque type of player.
41:20Um and that suits him well.
41:23>> All right, I'm going to ask you a painful question. I hope you're going to be okay with it. Uh Jamar Chase over Taj
41:28Boyd in Cincinnati, field or [ __ ] it?
41:30>> Um I'm going to say [ __ ] it. I I'm going to say Jamar Chase and Taj Boyd in Cincinnati.
41:36Um that's what I'm looking at as a possibility. Samaje Perine still there, but it's he's on his last legs most likely
41:44um in terms of just age. Um and they they're going to have to develop a little bit more. And when you look at
41:50Taj Boyd, you know, I know that there's impressions that he didn't do much last year, but he didn't do much last year. That
41:58doesn't mean he didn't fail That doesn't mean he failed to impress. Maybe he failed to impress fantasy analysts um because he didn't get enough
42:05opportunities to play. Um but that doesn't mean anything to me. That you know, he um I think that the fact that
42:13he made the team as the as essentially the third running back um, was good. And from the the carries I saw, he didn't do anything that you
42:25would say, "Oh, he didn't impress."
42:27He just didn't He just didn't have the situations to impress that I saw. But, Jamal Haynes is worth keeping an eye on
42:33because he could be as explosive of a back as Chase Brown. He's a pretty good pass catcher. Um, and he's someone who
42:42runs hard for his explosive abilities.
42:45So, if they're looking for someone who can finally be a redundancy plan for Chase Brown, Haynes' archetype is the closest. Brooks is more of a Samaje
42:56Perine type with um, more with I would say more lateral explosion um, and and better receiving skill. Well, no, similar receiving skills. I mean, I
43:07think that Brooks can still be part of a one-two punch at some point. Um, and we can give him another year, see how that
43:13progresses, and if you know, if he gets cut or and doesn't wind up in a good situation, or you know, we're looking at
43:21year three and he's still not what running back three entering this time next year, it's probably time to part ways with him.
43:27>> Fair enough. Xavier Thomas, the speedster wide receiver. Or is he a running back, Matt Field or [ __ ] it?
43:34>> Well, they're talking about him saying that he feels comfortable as a running back there.
43:38>> Between the tackles.
43:39>> Between the tackles. And I've seen a little bit from him. I'm going to have to study a little bit more of him as a
43:44runner. Um, I think that he's more of a long-term project from that standpoint.
43:49He might get some selected looks that get people excited about him as a runner. Um, and maybe they saw a little
43:56Tyrone Tracy-esque type of stuff with him as potentially, and they decided we're going to draft him early because we think we can convert him
44:03fast. Um, I'm uh, you know, I I think that if you're going to think about drafting him, if you can get him in like the fifth round of a
44:12draft and you're rebuilding and you need running back talent, maybe you can consider him in the fifth or sixth round as a running back talent, but I think
44:22he's getting a little bit over drafted right now. He's not going to I I would be surprised if he beat out D'Andre
44:28Swift for the lead role and he I don't think he's beating out Tomonaga either.
44:34>> All right, fair enough. Uh your guy, Skylar Thompson, ends up in Baltimore along with a cast of thousands at the
44:40quarterback position. Uh uh what do you think what do you think what do you make of that depth chart at quarterback for the Ravens right now?
44:48First of all, why so many? I mean, it's uh what we've got Lamar Jackson obviously at the top there. Who who do
44:53we got underneath him? You got Pavial?
44:56>> Yeah, Pavial.
44:57>> Pavial, Tavia.
44:58>> And >> And another >> Fagnaldo.
45:00>> Okay.
45:01>> Yeah. And now you got Thompson. So, I think the thing is this is looking at Skylar Thompson, I think, you
45:08know, my my stick with him has always been that I think he got misused by Mike McDaniel who who whenever he had to put
45:17reserves onto the field, look at Malik Washington as another example, that he had a very tight role for those guys as
45:24contributors and then when he had to put them in the field and expand what they did, he was afraid to do so. It was
45:29like, "My offense, I can't I can't let that guy take chances, you know, and he got and and Mike got extremely
45:37conservative and kind of constipated in how he looked at at off you know, at offense and play calling with those guys. Um Thompson goes to Pittsburgh and
45:49they weren't counting on anything from him. They had Rudolph, they had Rogers, they had Howard. Okay? They knew that that's what they they were going to
45:56have. They brought Thompson in just in case Rogers wasn't going to join the team.
46:03And Thompson played so well that there was a thought that maybe he would compete with Mason Rudolph, but they decided to just stick with the
46:11veteran at this point. They weren't going to come off of Howard cuz they traded for him. They I mean they acquired him early enough in the draft
46:18that they were invested in him. So, when they interviewed, you know, Thompson became a favorite when interviewed, he said what was the difference and he
46:27said, "I just decided finally that I'm going to play my game and not really listen to, you know, and not try and
46:35you know, cramp my style for basically Basically Basically what he was saying to me was Mike McDaniel cramped my style and made me do things that I really that
46:46didn't allow me to show my game and I'm going to I'm going to play my game full-fledged like I did at Kansas. And I think it
46:54showed up on tape in the preseason and I think that the I think that the Steelers knowing, you know, looking at their their division
47:03rivals and probably studying them closely probably saw enough of Thompson that said, "You know what? Fagnano is probably a few years away from becoming
47:11a backup.
47:13He's a He's maybe a guy that we like his traits, but may not We might not like what we're seeing with him picking
47:19things up. Huntley, we know what he is.
47:23There's, you know, it's He's not going to superly He's not going to embarrass us as a starter, but he's probably not going
47:30to win big games for us either.
47:33And then there's this And then there's Diego Pavia who we talked about enough that the the tabloids can't get enough of him. I mean
47:40even even now even now he he tried to pick up a an employee in the in MMA. It's not okay to shoot your shot anymore. I guess not.
47:51You know, I'm I'm like that was not a big deal in the scheme of things compared to, you know, I think we're going to get more
47:59coverage of this than we might get of Vrabel and and Rossini, you know, down the line.
48:04>> interesting times I believe is the phrase I'm looking for.
48:07>> We're certainly not We're certainly not going to get the McVay coverage that that some rumor-mongers are are spreading out there about this type of
48:14stuff. Um we'll probably get more Diego Pavia. He'll be the He'll be the whoop the whipping boy, you know, so that they
48:22can save the coaches for him just doing it things that are like a lot less serious and quite okay from what it
48:29looks so far at least the way it's reported is, you know, asking someone out never seemed like a a big deal when
48:36you're single. Um but you know, as long as you do it in a gentlemanly way. But hey, listen, you know, that's his
48:43that's his thing is that maybe they feel like he's on thin ice and Thompson gives them a chance to have a little bit more
48:48competition in the room. Thompson's a pro, he can move around, he throws the ball pretty darn well.
48:56Um I wouldn't be surprised at all if you know, he um if he has a factor of being the quarterback three.
49:04>> All right, so I should not be dumping Tyler Huntley as the as my third quarterback in my superflex leagues where I have Lamar Jackson and
49:12>> Not yet. But keep an eye on the situation. It's a little fluid.
49:16>> All right, fair enough. That's it for this week's episode of Feel Her [ __ ] Fine. Matt on the X device at Matt
49:21Waldman. Tons of interesting uh comments and clips and whatnot you'll find there uh far more than you'll find at mine at
49:28Football Diehard where I just share links to my work. Uh but nonetheless, it's a good place to find links to my
49:33work if you're so inclined. Otherwise, we'll be back next week and I'll uh I'll not screw up as bad as I did this week.
49:40>> Well, you didn't screw up at all. I'm the one that [ __ ] up that whole thing.
49:44I set your ass up. But you know, I'll try not to I'll try not to mess up Bob Harris and make him trying to make him look bad cuz
49:52you can't make Bob look bad. It just makes me look worse.
49:56Um but we we appreciate you, Bob, and we appreciate you guys listening.
50:00>> Thanks, everybody. Goodbye. Love you.
50:02>> Love you, too.
