Traded from Los Angeles Rams at cutdown deadline to fill void at true Y tight end (Packers disappointed no value on board in draft due to run on position starting in round 2). Coached by Mike LaFleur (head coach Matt LaFleur's brother) when Mike was Rams offensive coordinator in Redman's 2025 rookie season. Looks the part of blocking tight end based on preseason film (did not play regular-season game in 2025); has more wiggle than John FitzPatrick who previously played this role.

Redman's ability to contribute on special teams is a key X factor in determining the Packers' gameday roster construction. If Redman can play special teams, he could potentially displace off-ball linebacker Nick Niemann on special teams units, which would affect whether Niemann remains active on the gameday roster.

Redman is a true Y inline tight end who might be able to help as a blocker on special teams, which gives him an advantage over move tight ends like Smith and Whyle. He hasn't played in a regular-season game yet in his career, so his special teams contributions are still to be determined, but his role as an inline blocker helps his case for staying active on the 48-man gameday roster.

The source explicitly states they do not have high hopes for Redman's production this season. While his blocking and limited receiving role fit the Packers offense, his lack of speed will likely keep him in a somewhat limited role overall, constraining his fantasy upside.

NegativeRoleSep 1, 2026Yahoo Sports NFL

The source conducted film review of Redman's three preseason games and identified his core strength: elite in-line blocking and gap movement on run plays, plus solid pass protection against edge defenders. His receiving game is limited—he operates mainly within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage on quick concepts and occasionally vertical routes, but lacks the athleticism (6'6", 263 lb, 4.95 40-time) to win consistently downfield. The Packers traded for him to fit a zone-oriented running game where his blocking prowess and limited but functional receiving role complement the offense without asking him to do things he cannot do.

Redman (6'6", 263 lb, 4.95 40-time, 24 years old) was acquired by the Packers as a blocking-first tight end with limited receiving upside. Film review shows elite in-line blocking and gap-moving ability on run plays, solid pass protection against edge defenders, but limited receiving skills—mainly operating within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage on quick game concepts and boot routes. His lack of speed will keep him in a limited role, though the Packers' zone-oriented run scheme and boot-heavy passing game can work to his strengths. The source does not project high production this season but views him as a functional addition whose blocking opens up play-calling.

Tice notes that Redman is a strong blocker who fits the zone-blocking scheme the Packers are transitioning toward, which should provide a boost to the efficiency of the running back room, including Marshawn Lloyd.
