Yahoo Sports NFL on J.J. McCarthy

McCarthy's strong relief appearance sparks Giants QB controversy with Winston.

McCarthy was inserted into the game in the fourth quarter with the Giants trailing 34-10 and completed 11 of 21 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown with 26 rushing yards, leading three scoring drives to cut the deficit to a single touchdown and reaching the red zone on the final drive. Head coach John Harbaugh praised his performance, saying he 'did a heck of a job, given the circumstances and the desperation' and 'made some plays, got us back, and gave us a chance at the end to win the game.' Harbaugh kept the door open on a possible quarterback change ahead of Week 7, stating he 'can't answer' who will start next week.
