McCarthy competing with Winston for Giants starting job; Harbaugh weighing up-tempo fit.

McCarthy was acquired via trade a couple weeks ago and is competing with Jameis Winston (2-1-1 as starter) for the starting job against the Texans. Head coach John Harbaugh is evaluating whether McCarthy's fourth-quarter performance against the Saints—where the Giants snapped the ball every 14.6 seconds in a no-huddle, up-tempo offense—indicates he should be the starter and whether the Giants should shift to a more pass-oriented identity. Harbaugh expressed concern that the no-huddle style 'hasn't really proven to be sustainable' and is 'one-dimensional,' preferring a balanced 60-40 run-pass range attack.
