Yahoo Sports NFL on Fernando Mendoza

Mendoza's arrival as first-overall QB provides offensive direction and upside for skill players.

The Raiders selected Indiana Heisman winner and national champion Fernando Mendoza with the first overall pick, positioning him as the franchise quarterback capable of changing the math for the entire offense. The source notes that if Mendoza needs time to develop, Kirk Cousins can steady things early, but either way the offense now has direction and a quarterback upgrade that should benefit skill-position players like Jeanty and Bowers.
