Vaki had a rough outing as RB2 behind workhorse Gibbs. Despite playing a decent number of snaps (22 per PFF), his impact was more negative than positive. On his first snap, he missed a blocking assignment that resulted in Jared Goff getting hit by a blitzing Kaden Eliss. Later in the first half, he clipped Penei Sewell while engaged with Chase Young, leading to Sewell losing the edge and Goff getting hit on a play that would have been a strip-sack touchdown without an obscure NFL rule. He was largely relegated to third-down duties but produced minimal impact: two carries for seven yards and one catch for 11 yards. The source questions whether Jacob Saylors, who showed more in preseason, might warrant the RB2 role instead.
