Giving up after 10 starts would be incredibly misguided. If he goes on to become a great quarterback for another team and we're back to square one in five years with no Super Bowl appearances, it could fracture a large part of the long-time fan base.

McCarthy traded to Giants; Vikings gave up on 23-year-old after 10 starts.

Traded to the New York Giants for a 2027 5th-round pick after the Vikings organization, particularly Kevin O'Connell, apparently lost confidence in the 23-year-old quarterback. Despite a 6-4 record as a starter and road wins against the Lions and Cowboys, plus a comeback victory against the Bears, McCarthy was benched behind Carson Wentz when games began to count, suggesting the QB competition in training camp was a ploy to maintain trade value rather than a genuine development opportunity.
