0:00School is in session here at School of Scott. I am your host, Brett Whitefield, joined by my usual co-host, Mr. CEO
0:06himself, Scott Barrett. And today we are joined by a very special guest, friend of the show, Danny Kelly of the Ringer,
0:15is coming to us to give us eight guys he isn't letting his league mates draft ahead of him.
0:30fellas, how are you? I am doing great.
0:33Thank you for the intro. How are you guys doing?
0:36>> I'm I'm doing good. I'm really excited for this. So, uh I asked you for a list of your guys, your mustdraft targets,
0:43and your opinion holds a lot of weight in my eyes. I I really think I've said this on the show without you many times,
0:50but I really think you're one of the sharpest minds in the space. um really respect your opinion a lot. If we ever
0:56disagree in a player, you know, it really makes me want to circle back and and investigate. But luckily, I I told
1:02you that I you gave me your list. I I'm looking at the list right now. I told you I agree with every single guy. I'm
1:09above consensus on every single guy.
1:11Some of them I love. Some some are must draft players for me. That's what I told you. That was a lie. I I wrote an
1:19article last week. It is my must fade targets. You're an idiot if you like these players. And there's a ton of
1:26overlap between my faves and so I hope you're ready for a vigorous debate between the two of >> This is great. Yeah, I feel like I'm,
1:33you know, like a in a Senate hearing or something like that. Let's do it.
1:36>> So, so let's dive right in with your the first name on your list, JJ McCarthy.
1:41Explain [laughter] this one.
1:43>> Yeah. Yeah. He's going to win the the quarterback competition is what I've heard. Um, we'll see. when I when I saw
1:48that the tweet that's like, you know, the real competition uh real real training camp battle and I like wanted to like post the Joseé Aldo Conor
1:59McGregor fight and be like this this is what the battle is.
2:03>> Oh wow, good way back when.
2:04>> Before we do dive in, Danny and Scott, I want to get your guys' take on uh the whole concept is you know leaving a or
2:12not letting our league mates draft ex player, which implies a reach to an extent, right? So, what is your guys take on reaching? Like, how far are you
2:19willing to go? What does it mean to not let someone leave a draft with one of your guys kind of thing, you know?
2:24>> Yeah. Danny, do you like to reach a round in a guy or >> I do like to reach a round. Um, exactly
2:31one round uh is is kind of my my deal.
2:34Yeah. I lit I quite literally was like, I'll I'll reach a round. One round. Um something like that. As you get later
2:41into the draft, obviously, you can do lots of reachounds. You can reach reach many rounds for it. and it really doesn't bother me. Um, [clears throat]
2:48so yeah, good great start, guys. Let's do this. This is great.
2:52>> Yeah. Can we [laughter] can we hit record?
2:56>> Uh, so I'll just say it really depends on the player. Like my Exodia players in my draft guide are players you can feel
3:03comfortable reaching a full round or more on. Like that value is already baked in. like last year Cam Scataboo um you know Theo and I were were getting
3:12into fights on our FFPC live stream drafts because you know he he would be like listen he goes in round nine we
3:19could just take him round eight or hope he falls to us in round nine. I'm like no you don't understand he's mispriced
3:25by four rounds like let's just take him and he's he's significantly better than anyone else in the last round of drafts.
3:32Let's let's so let's take him here in round seven. Um, and so yeah, it's just really case by case basis. Generally,
3:38you want to get the best value. You want to have like the lower co dollar cost averaging, whatever low, you know, the
3:45your portfolio as cheap as possible.
3:48But, um, yeah, certainly some players are just so egregiously mispriced.
3:52>> Uh, you just want to acquire them like even reaching a round is still good value.
3:58>> Yeah, I tried to do I tried to do a sprinkling of guys that were from different rounds. So, like a couple
4:03early guys, couple >> slightly later guys, and and a handful of, you know, further down the list guys. Um, but yeah, I mean, I' I'd say
4:12like when I go into a draft, and I'm sure Scott and both of you guys probably do something similar, it's like you just
4:18have guys like in the area that you just want want to target, and you know, you don't really have to think too much
4:25about it. you just kind of even if they're not the top of the list in the little draft thing that you're using,
4:29whatever draft uh format you're using, just go get them. Um, so that's kind of like how I thought of this. You know, I
4:35don't necessarily think these guys are like egregiously mispriced necessarily, but I just these are the types of guys I want to really target as I'm going
4:43through my draft. Yeah, Brett Brett and I were recording earlier today and we really lambasted the diversification players who are like I I I need to
4:53diversify my portfolio and spread my exposure and my shares and it's like I don't I don't like that. You know, it's
5:03like when I have a clear edge, when I really like a guy or really dislike a guy, like I want to just keep pressing
5:08that button to the max. It's like, you know, there here's a market in efficiency. Let me just max that out rather than like, oh, let me, you know,
5:18I really like this guy, but I I don't want more than 40%. Because [laughter] So, >> uh, well, yeah, because we we manage
5:26probably, I don't know, how many teams do we manage together? Like six or seven teams like at this point. Um, and we
5:32have like all the same guys on every single team because we're just like constantly doing the exact same.
5:36>> But here's the thing, all those teams are freaking awesome.
5:39>> I know. absolutely killing it. So, so behind the scenes, we're building our out our new league importer draft generator tool. We're calling it the
5:48front office, and it's legitimately like going to be the best on the market, especially for Dynasty. And so, we're playing around with it. We're trying to
5:56like find bugs and like add, you know, different things to it. And so, uh, everyone at the company imported all of
6:04their dynasty leagues. There's like 150 Dynasty Leagues, all of Thomas Tipples, all of Jay's, all of Joe Joe Dolan's, and uh dude, all of our teams are like
6:14all the way at the top in terms of in terms of dynasty value, overall dynasty value in terms of odds to win uh the
6:23championship this year. We have a ton of juggernaut dynasty teams.
6:27>> Yeah, we've got some >> Did one of those juggernauts recently lose to me in the finals of a league?
6:33Just asking for friends.
6:34>> [laughter] >> just I've heard people want to know, >> you know, you got lucky in, you know, one week and that that can happen is you
6:40get lucky in a week. But >> well, yeah, I I wanted to ask about the reaching thing just because I know a lot
6:45of analysts when they give their my guys, myself included, it's usually based on ADP. So, it's like once the ADP changes, it's like, well, their guys
6:52kind of change. Like [clears throat] I like Romeo Dubs as the wide receiver 52, but if he jumps up to wide receiver like
6:5840, >> I might I might not have the same tone, you know? So, >> well, let's get started. I'm going to
7:03start at the bottom of your list if that's okay. Cool. Sure.
7:05>> I'm going to go Ricky Pearl, wide receiver, San Francisco. Danny, why don't you make the bull case for for Ricky?
7:11>> So, he just feels to me like a classic post type sleeper. I think people were excited about him going into last year.
7:16Obviously, former first round pick and and he to me checks a lot of the boxes that you're looking for in a guy like
7:22that coming off of an injury. Hopefully, he's healthy now. Um, you've seen some workout videos of him. Although he was wearing a sort of like a knee sleeve
7:29type of deal, he was moving really well.
7:32Um, but he's in a good offense, a good quarterback, good route runner, good hands. To me, the big thing is just
7:37whether he can stay healthy, but that, you know, you can have that with pretty much any player in the NFL at this
7:42point. Um, the 49ers, I think, are going to score a lot of points. They could have a worse def like last year, their
7:49defense was super super injured, but it wasn't good um all year. And so, that kind of put them in that category where
7:55you're going to see some, you know, shootout type of games. It's not like a super slow offense or anything like that. Um, and you know, George KD is not
8:04going to probably be playing for the first few games. At the very least, I would just guess right now on the fact that he got
8:10a he had a Achilles tear in the playoffs last year.
8:14>> So, I'm just looking at Pieraw. Some of the underlying numbers are very good for him. If like you look at what he did the
8:20first three games last season before he hurt his PCL, which is a knee injury that kind of like lingered with him
8:25throughout the rest of the season. um 22% target rate, five catches a game, almost 100 yards per game. He had a four
8:32catch, 108 yard game against the Seahawks in week one. It kind of looked like he was really primed to be a top
8:37tier breakout player. Um and then yeah, injuries just kind of got to him. I think in this 49ers offense alongside Mike Evans, who kind of I think will
8:45actually help him too, >> free him up to, you know, move around a little bit more. Um do some of the short
8:51and intermediate stuff a little bit more. Um, I think his his route running, his hands, and just his savvy as a
8:56receiver is gonna really pay off. And and like I just like Pertie. I think he delivers the football. I like Shanahan.
9:02Um, even though in the past he's been a little bit all over the place with how he plays his players, like the whole
9:07Brandon Iuk thing. I think >> Sure.
9:10>> You know, kind of I in the end it looks like Shanahan was probably right on that one. The way that I has been acting
9:16lately, but um but yeah, I do just look at this offense. It's a good situation, good environment, and he's he's a good
9:24player who if he could stay healthy, I think could could really break out.
9:27>> Yeah, I love this one. This this was an Exodia for me last year, and I feel like I kind of just run brand dab at the
9:33injuries. Like I we kind of knew he was injuryprone coming in, but >> you know, week one 108 yards, then 56,
9:40then 117, >> then he got hurt, >> and you know, he didn't come back to to full strength until week 15 had 96
9:48yards. the next week he had or missed another game and then came back 85 yards. And so, uh, certainly productive within that small sample. And one of our
9:57metrics we have is separation win rate.
10:01>> Yeah.
10:02>> And, uh, here are the top wide receivers by separation win rate last year.
10:06Devonte Adams one, Mike Evans two, Ricky Persaw three, JSN four, Romeo Dobs five, Puka Nua six. And so it's like all the
10:16best wide receivers and Ricky Pearl and Romeo Dobs, who's a guy I know Brett is very high on in that Josh McDaniel slot
10:24role.
10:25>> I had that's a that's the exact stat I said on our show the other day actually because I was I was just like
10:31>> trying to digger dig a little bit deeper on kind of like what the underlying metrics were. I think like the eye test
10:37is that he to me he just looks good. Um but it's it's cool. It was cool to see that his his metrics were lining up with
10:44that. And like I said, you know, in this offense, I think there's there's an opportunity for even more volume with Jawan Jennings gone. Um, you know, KD
10:53potentially hurt for a little while. I is not coming back at this point. Um, so it's basically him and Mike Evans and
10:58then, you know, smattering of other guys, but um could be, you know, more focused on him.
11:04Excuse me.
11:05>> Yeah. If you extend that sample out for the last two years as well, he's still top 10 in win rate. He's top 30 in
11:11separation score. And the route running coming out of college is one of the big draws for me. The reason I had a first
11:16round grade on him was the route running and separation ability. I also comped him coming out to a blend of Brandon
11:21Iayuk and D.Vo Samuel, which is really funny. The 49ers drafted him to kind of replace both guys, I think. And he's got
11:28a little bit of untapped potential, I think, as a as a design touch gadget player where he was really dynamic on
11:34that stuff at Arizona State and early on in his Florida career. So, I I love this one, Danny. If he can stay healthy, that
11:40I haven't talked about him a ton this off seasonason just cuz I'm concerned about the health, but if he can stay
11:44healthy, it's an awesome opportunity for him to kind of take the reigns and be the the future pass catcher here.
11:49>> Yeah. I mean, and I also I also like Mike Evans in this offense. I mean, I think he's he's obviously priced a
11:55little bit higher, but um you know, he's a >> I think he still has this the skills.
12:00He's not like falling off dramatically.
12:01Just it's a matter of staying healthy. I think everybody on the 49ers, it's like, can they stay healthy? If it if yes,
12:06then you have a you have a very uh you know, productive fantasy player. But we'll see how that all goes with the the
12:12way that they've had bad luck. Who knows?
12:14>> Yeah, Pertie's an underrated quarterback as well. Shanahan's a great play call.
12:17All all the stuff is there for those guys for sure.
12:19>> All let's move on to number seven on the list. Skinny Batman, Devonte Adams, the you know, Eagles New Sorry. Did I say
12:27Dvonte Adams? Gosh, >> Devonte Smith. The >> slip there. Yeah.
12:31>> Right. Right. Um, you know, we talked about him on the the SOS live earlier today. Um, someone asked about his press
12:38coverage metrics, but anyways, Devonte Smith, where you at on him?
12:42>> To me, it's just I look at this guy, you know, the the Eagles offense isn't necessarily attractive from a receivers's point of view. That was a
12:50big reason why AJ Brown wanted out. I feel like, you know, the the connection that he had or the lack of connection he
12:54had with Jaylen Herz um the run the rate at which they run the ball um is a little bit worrisome. But I just think
13:01Devonte Smith is a really good player and every time that AJ Brown has kind of been off the field for the Eagles. He's
13:07kind of assumed that number one role. I don't know if he's necessarily a prototypical quoteunquote number one receiver, but I do think he can put up
13:14volume um >> just because of his mix of route running. He has great length hands. Um and I just think he is the clear-cut
13:23number one in this offense now. Like with with AJ Brown gone, like Goddard's getting a little bit older. Dantavian Wixs is there. I think he's more of kind
13:30of a sacrificial. He's just gonna be kind of running around out there running a lot of routes, not getting a lot of
13:35targets. And then, you know, Mai Lemon, I I like him, but he's, you know, in his first year, I don't think necessarily
13:41this is he he he m he he matches Jaylen Herz's skill set super well. At least I think maybe he was drafted in order for
13:48Jaylen Herz to improve kind of like throwing over the middle field and some of the things that he's just he he
13:52doesn't do that. He's kind of like a Russell Wilson quarterback where he likes to push it to the outside. He likes the safer throws, protect the
13:58football. Um, and I don't know necessarily if he can see that well over the middle field. It's kind of like the
14:04exact same issues that Russell Wilson ran into for much of his career. So, you know, I don't know if Mai Lemon is going
14:08to be a high volume guy early on. So, I think Dvonte Smith is going to be like the clear-cut number one. And I just
14:13think he's a really good receiver. Um, and so kind of just betting on that. I don't have like a ton of underlying
14:18stats. You guys said you were looking at some of his numbers. I'd love to hear what you had on him.
14:22>> Well, we had a we had a question about like, hey, can't teams just press him?
14:26and he stinks getting off press and the the separation metrics are true. The yards per route run, they both plummet when he's pressed, but it was like
14:33>> 56 routes total of the whole sample last year. And yeah, >> press is just not super common. Like Jamar Chase led the NFL in
14:40>> in routes that were pressed at like 112.
14:43So it's like even if he doubles the sample, I think the added opportunity of AJ Brown being gone and being really the
14:49only boundary threat on the team I think is like >> far outweighs a team pressing him into oblivion at like 20% of his route share.
14:57So I'm with you on that one.
14:58>> I think and that's a great point. I think last year it the offense, you know, was static and unc it kind of uncreative like is that
15:08even a word? I don't know. Uncreative.
15:10Not not creative. And um I just you know we don't know a lot about Shawn Manion.
15:15I think what he is going to do and what he'll bring is more motion more you know moving guys around the formation kind of
15:22just like doing things to try and get guys the ball in space and trying to get the ball out of Jaylen Herz's hands a
15:28little bit just like make it easier on the quarterback make it easier on the receivers. Um because last year just when I think of the Eagles offense it
15:33was just static and kind of predictable.
15:35Um, and obviously a lot will depend on how the offensive line does this year for the Eagles. If they can stay
15:41healthy, then I think it's wheels up for this offense. Obviously, just they they have a chance to be one of the better
15:46offensive lines, but last year they just kind of, you know, they were still a good offense, but their offensive line was hurt. Saquon kind of took a huge
15:53step back um from a stats number at least. And, you know, I think there's a chance that we could see the Eagles get
16:00back to to being really efficient at least when they get their offensive line going. Yeah, I'm curious too because like Manion's bringing he's coming from
16:08an offense that was top three in extra tight end personnel groupings, >> right? And they they drafted another tight end in the second round. They have
16:15Gddard. It's like are they going to try to live in more 12 personnel than they have in the past? And like your point
16:19about Herz is such a good one. Like he wants to live in this realm of late down passing and see it throw it kind of
16:25thing. He doesn't like to throw into tight windows, right? So he actively avoids the middle of the field smartly because if you're going to throw late,
16:31it can't be across the middle. Y >> and uh so it's like are they going to force him to change that with the
16:37personnel groupings with Mai Lemon or is Dvonte Smith really just going to catch all the passes this year? So I think
16:43it's a really nice upside swing. Scott, where you at on Dvonte?
16:46>> Yeah. Yeah, I am. I'm I'm super bullish.
16:48Uh you know, I wasn't expecting him to to be one of my draft guys, but that's certainly the case on Sleeper. He goes
16:56wide receiver 20 on Sleeper. He's after Ted McMillan, Garrett Wilson, Luther Burden, Vlad Mcconi, Zay Flowers, then Devont Smith. So [clears throat] that's
17:06exceptional value there. So on Sleeper, Musdraft, and then maybe I'm a little bit more lukewarm on on ESPN and Yahoo.
17:15>> Word. All right, let's jump to your first non-wide receiver on the list, tight end from the Indianapolis Colts, Tyler Warren.
17:23>> Yeah.
17:24>> Yeah, go for it. I know he had a fantastic rookie season. This is another Scott. It's like we did the show before
17:29the show. We talked about Tyler Warren on our show earlier today as well. So, this is kind of funny, but uh yeah, give
17:34us your your bull case on Warren here.
17:36>> So, I think the you know, the bull case is that the Colts were are going to be somewhat close. I don't think they're going to do
17:44what they did at the beginning of last year necessarily. Obviously, they they were, you know, one of the best offenses in the NFL or even one of the best
17:51offenses if you look at like points per drive and all this. One of the best offenses we've ever seen. like they were
17:55up there with the 2007 Patriots.
17:57Obviously, I don't think that's something that they can, you know, continue over the long term, but I do think there will be a little bit of
18:03regression to the mean where they're going to get a little bit closer back to where they started and um you know,
18:08before everything fell apart with injuries and things like that. Um to me, the the the Warren thing he he was a
18:15tale of two seasons before he got before things started to fall apart. In the first 10 weeks of the season, he was the
18:20tight end 11. Um, you know, he had a 21% target rate in that stretch. He was being used all kind of in a lot of
18:27different ways. They were scheming up ways to get him the football run after the catch. He had over 600 yards in that
18:32stretch. And then, you know, he basically from week 11 on, he fel it completely fell apart. He averaged like five points per game in fantasy. Um, but
18:41I do think it going forward, you know, with Pitman gone, I think he can replace a little bit of this the stuff that
18:48Pitman was doing in terms of the short and intermediate area. Um, getting the ball, trying to get him in space. I
18:54don't think he's necessarily like he he's it's funny because he's he's a different very different style of quarterback or a tight end than Coulson
19:02Loveland where Lovelin is kind of a >> precise route runner. You can line him up all over the formation. He's going to
19:08win. Warren is more just like a blunt instrument. He's like a hammer looking for a nail kind of guy. Like go around,
19:14you know, get him the ball and he can make things happen type of deal. And I do think that they're going to make a
19:19focus in this offense next year on getting him the football a lot because he's one of their best player. He's one
19:24of their best offensive players. Um and with Pitman gone, I think there's going to be more concentration in the top few
19:31guys. Um you know, Alec Pierce, I think he's a good player, but he's more of like a really deep threat type of
19:36player. Josh DS I think has a chance to be a breakout player. He's another guy I kind of considered for this. I think
19:41Josh D's a good route runner and it'll be interesting to see how he is utilized and how they line him up if he gets
19:46outside a lot. Um but I just think Warren, he's going to be on the field all the time. That's always kind of a
19:52good starting point when you're talking about fantasy tight ends. He's he's just going to be on the field a lot. Um but I
19:57do think his his uh usage in this offense is going to go up in year two and and it'll be a lot more consistent,
20:04more in line with what we saw at the beginning of last season. The the Colts thing is interesting because everybody I
20:08talk to has Colts on their my guys list.
20:10Whether it's Josh DS or Tyler Warren or Alec Pierce. I've liked Alec Pierce at ADP just because like logically speaking, I can't imagine an NFL team
20:18paying a guy $30 million a year to not increase his target load to like at least 120. And if he gets 120, it's
20:24going to be nice. But >> they vacated a bunch of targets in Michael Pitman Jr. They basically made room for Pierce to ascend. But they also
20:32made room for Tyler Warren to ascend. I think you're right on some of these short design targets. That's where he dominates. He's in this Tucker Craft
20:39vintage George KD kind of archetype where it's like catch and run opportunities, get him in space and and let him wreak havoc on the defense. So,
20:47somebody in Indianapolis offense is going to boom, whether you know it's it's DS or Warren or or Pierce getting, you know, another step.
20:54>> But I I definitely like the call. Warren was one of my favorite prospects I've ever evaluated. I I loved him. Just a
20:59throwback type player. Yeah, >> a ton of fun. Scott, where were you at War? Oh, sorry, Danny. Go ahead.
21:04>> I was just going to say I agree with you. He's just like one of those guys that is it's all the cliches, you know
21:09what I mean? It's he's a lunch pale guy.
21:11He just he's a hard worker, you know? He goes out there, he can do all different types of things. There was a play from
21:17college where >> uh he threw a touch he he like he was a former quarterback. I want I'm saying against USC, he like threw a touchdown,
21:24I want to say. Um so he can just kind of do everything. He he's a run after the catch guy. He's got good speed, good uh
21:32power in terms of breaking tackles and things like that. It just like I'm looking at the stats yesterday last year he had he was the third most uh targets
21:39in the NFL. Um and I think and that includes like a a second half of the season where he did very little like
21:44they had Philip Rivers for God's sake playing quarterback. Um so I just think there's meat on the bone there. Second year breakout um Pitman gone. It all
21:53just kind of adds up together.
21:54>> Yeah, I I'll just reaffirm that. You know, this is a very uh highly regarded prospect, one that you and I both love,
22:01Danny, and we have him on a ton of tight end Premium Dynasty leagues. He had the most yards from scrimmage by any power
22:08conference tight end in any season ever, >> uh, which is like super predictive. And then what happened his rookie year?
22:15Yeah. To your credit, up until Daniel Jones fractured Fibula, which is around week 10 or so, uh, he was the tight end
22:22too in fantasy. He was behind only Trey McBride. And then I it's up on the screen right here. 2.13 yards per route
22:29run. That was better than Brock Bower's rookie season, which was a historically great all-time great rookie year. And then what happened in the second half?
22:38He was catching passes from a literal grandfather, [laughter] Philip Rivers.
22:42So I I'm with you. Another uh a nice little cherry on top, by the way, is uh the rushing touchdowns. You could see him in
22:50the QB sneak roll perhaps, especially following this Daniel Jones injury. But I was talking to uh I think the best injury expert in the game. We we just
22:58hired him uh to come right over at Fantasy Points, Jeff Mueller. Uh he mentioned being worried about Daniel Jones injury uh particularly with the
23:08deep ball, but saying that Warren and D should benefit. And then we both sort of agreed that we're kind of out on Alec
23:15Pierce. Sorry. Sorry, Brett, but um it's there was a video a couple weeks ago uh of him like walking around with a slight
23:24limp, but worse than that is his left calf looked like 20% smaller than his right calf. And so there's a real chance
23:31Alec Pierce isn't 100% in like week two, week three of the season, and then on top of that, you're expecting him to
23:38take on this new role where he's a more complete receiver. I I don't think so.
23:44Uh, and so that really just makes me more bullish on Josh DS and Tyler Warren. So, uh, yeah, again, I I I don't
23:53like drafting tight ends too early just because of the opportunity cost. Um, so I don't know if he's going to be one of
23:59my guys, but but certainly from a dynasty perspective, certainly from, you know, like current ADP is not bad at all uh on on Tyler Warren, a player I'm very
24:08bullish on overall.
24:09>> Right. Last note for me is like we live in this new too high middle of the field open era. Tyler Warren is the exact uh
24:18comeback for that. It's like cool. You want to sit back and play shell coverage.
24:22>> We're going to annihilate you. You saw Tyler War that last graphic we had up over seven yards after the catch is what
24:27he averaged as a rookie in that, you know, first 10 weeks of the season. So, he's an absolute monster after the
24:32catch. He's the perfect counter to two high middle of the field open coverages.
24:36And uh yeah, that's that's the new wave, man.
24:40All right, number five on the list, Terry McLaren. Scary Terry, the literal only pass catcher in Washington over there for the Commanders. What What you
24:49got going on here, Danny?
24:50>> I mean, I think that's pretty much all there is to say about it. [laughter] The only pass catcher in Washington. I
24:56think, you know, going into the season, it looks like Terry McLaren is the clear-cut number one, and then the number two guy is going to be maybe
25:01Antonio Williams, maybe Chigga Conquo sort of finally emerges um on a second contract as the high volume pass catcher. Um you know, Tayen Burks is
25:11there. If he can stay healthy, he might have a chance to play a role, but I don't know know if he's necessarily a
25:15high volume guy. Um so it's to me it's just Terry McLaren and a bunch of other dudes that probably won't be big-time
25:21producers. Um and you know, this is also just a bet. I number one I think Terry McLaren is a good player. Um he's the
25:28type of guy that I think can get open.
25:30He can go he can catch passes deep. He can score touchdowns. We saw it two years ago. He scored second most
25:35touchdowns in the NFL. Um so you know it's it's basically just a bet that Jane Daniels is going to bounce back from
25:41what was like a horrific sophomore slump injury marred season. He was basically like healthy I don't know like one game last year basically if you look at all
25:50the different stuff he he fought through. Um, so you know, and then I guess the only other question I'd have on this other than to get to avoid
25:59getting too bullish on it is like what do we get from the offensive coordinator, David Blau? I don't really know a ton about what he's going to
26:05bring. He hasn't um we don't know a ton of what he's done and and what he will plan to bring, but you know, I I just
26:12have faith in J Daniels kind of getting closer to what we saw as a rookie. Um, I think he has the poise, the accuracy,
26:19the dynamic ability to create, you know, second chance opportunities for his receivers. Um, yeah, basically it's just the Commanders are one of those teams
26:30that could have a huge bounceback year.
26:32There's a Jared Smaller from Draft Sharks put together a fantasy environment ranking, which I thought was interesting, and he and that was looking
26:38at implied spreads, implied points, and and all the Vegas numbers. And the Commanders were 10th in that because they have what could be a good offense,
26:47what should be a good offense, what's expected to be anyway. Um, and a bad defense. I mean, if like their entire
26:52defense is free agent, I would say like 75, if you look at just the depth chart, it's like 75% of the guys on their
26:58defense, they signed in the offseason.
27:00Um, so this could be a shootout type of team and obviously you want that for fantasy. So kind of just all those
27:06variables. I like Terry McLaren a lot as a player and he's in a situation now where he's going to dominate the target
27:11rate. Let's let's assume Stfan Diggs is basically already on the Commanders. How much does that change things for you?
27:18>> Yeah, that's definitely a variable here.
27:20Um it would probably dampen my enthusiasm a little bit, but I still think McLaren is the number one guy there. Um so it we'll
27:28have to see how that goes. I think the the IU crash on social media made me excited. We'll see if Stefon Diggs ends
27:35up there. Uh made me excited for McLaren. Obviously not for uh not that not that I'm like celebrating Aayou kind of having a a breakdown but um it it
27:45does you know if if Diggs ends up there then you kind of you have to take it with take the like McLaren thing down a
27:52bit. I think >> I I don't know that you do like uh Mclloren's on your list and Mclloren's on my list and I I think feel like I'm
27:59already baking in Diggs being a foregone conclusion to sign there. Like I don't know that it doesn't help open things up
28:07for McLaren, you know, keeps defenses more honest and it's like they really have no one else surrounding him that like you can you could pencil in like
28:16six targets per game to Stfan Diggs. Uh what was most notable to me was David Blau. He's he's announced as the OC for
28:25the Commanders and they're like, "Well, what's your offense going to look like?"
28:28And he says, quote unquote, "First and foremost, this thing is going to be built around how we can get Terry McLuren 10 targets a game." [laughter]
28:36>> Did he really say that?
28:38>> Yes. That's a direct quote. And that was like the quote of the off season for me.
28:42And it's shocking like you don't hear people tweet about this every single week. Yeah.
28:47>> Uh and this is like especially notable for McLaren because don't forget he's coming from the Cliff Kingsbury offense which is notoriously hard on wide
28:56receivers. Speaking of static, yeah, >> you're not moved around the line of scrimmage. You're just alone on an island and the volume's not great. In
29:042024, which was his last season healthy >> with Jaden Daniels, McLaren finished as the wide receiver seven in total fantasy points, but he was just the wide
29:13receiver 19 by total targets. So now his OC is basically saying he's going to get a 50% increase in targets.
29:20>> And he already showed he could finish top seven with way less than that. Um and yeah, and and last year too, like it
29:27wasn't even like a total lost year after he held out in the off season. When he came back, he um from week three on, he
29:36ranked behind only Puka Nua and JSN and yards per route run. He was actually pretty solid from a on a per route
29:43basis. So, um yeah, a player I'm really bullish in. I'm expecting good volume with or without Stfan Diggs and uh really agree with you on this one,
29:52Danny. Yeah, I'm hoping uh Blau is, you know, subscribes to some of these I don't know what the word is like gen the
30:00Gen Z play callers where there's a lot of like movement, a lot of play action, things like that. Obviously, there's a
30:06little bit of I think um you have to design your offense around your quarterback, Jaden Daniels. And that's actually, not to spoil it, the next guy
30:13that we're going to talk about here, >> but um >> because Jaden, I think, is mainly primarily an under or a shotgun
30:21quarterback. So, like, you know, we'll have to figure out how that works together and everything. But, um, yeah, David Blau, 30 years old. I'm I'm just
30:27like hoping he he subscribes to all the sort of stuff that we constantly, you know, talk about ad nauseium on here,
30:35which is like motion, you know, misdirection. Just make a little play action move your guys around. Just make it a little bit harder on the defense.
30:44Like, don't don't just line up in the same spot every freaking time. I'm just really hoping kind of that's what happens here. And I think
30:49>> Blau Blau is a Dane Campbell Ben Johnson guy. So I think that's the hope is that he uh >> he brings more of those elements of the
30:56offense rather than the Cliff Kingsberry nonsense. So >> Right. Right. So that that is projection obviously, but I I just you know what I
31:02mean? It's just one of those things I get really excited about and that's like why I'm excited about Jane Daniels. I
31:06mean Jaden Daniels, you know, in his rookie year was he was an incredible like story. One of the most poised and
31:15confident looking quarterbacks. like it was it was crazy how quickly he sort of just came into the NFL and did it did
31:21not look too big for him. Um went 12 and five as a starter as a rookie, took his team to the uh deep into what did they
31:28did they went to the NFC championship or was it the divisional round? I can't remember off the top of my head. Um I
31:33always get those mixed up, but um you know obviously took Washington into the playoffs. It was really really electric uh performance as a rookie and then
31:43everything kind of fell apart. And and I will say like this was one of the main things I was worried about with Jane
31:49Daniels going into the league was that he is a very skinny man who does not shy away from contact and um you know and
31:57him being hurt for most of his second season. That is like the exact worry that you have with the type of player
32:02that he is. But if you go back to his rookie year, he was a QB4. If you remove week 18, which is essentially the
32:08fantasy season, um you know, he's a he's passed for 3,500 yards, 25 touchdowns, ran for almost 900 yards rushing and six
32:16touch uh six touchdowns on the ground.
32:18He had 75 scrambles, which was most in the NFL in 2024. Um and 62 design rushes. So, it's like he was
32:27when they weren't using him on design rushes to kind of like keep the defense on their heels, he was, you know,
32:31scrambling. He was he's basically a drop back. If he doesn't see it, he's going to take off and run and gain some yards.
32:36really, you know, important for fantasy purposes because it's not just reliant on what the court or what the play caller calls for you. Um, so yeah, I
32:45mean, I I just kind of look at it. I think, you know, he he's going to throw the ball deep. He's going to run a lot.
32:51Uh, he has a chance to be a top five quarterback. I think you're getting him, you know, kind it's not like it's a huge
32:56discount necessarily with him, but he has that overall QB1 upside and you can get it a little bit later than some of
33:03these other guys. So, um, it really is just a matter of, you know, what what do we get from Blau? How how different is
33:09the offense? Can he, um, harness some of Jaden Daniel's talents as a quarterback and kind of get them back on track?
33:15Yeah, >> I really hope they dial up some more like design deep shots for him that are, you know, conceptualized well. Like I
33:22think his rookie year is like a 9.6% deep throw rate, which was like 28th in the NFL.
33:27>> Um, his average depth of target was really low as I think like under like 32 in the NFL or something like that.
33:35>> But the things I really love like catchable ball rate top five in the league >> and then you combine that with like a
33:40really low turnover worthy throw rate.
33:41He was like mature beyond his years, you know, ball was coming out quick. Kind of the opposite of what we saw LSU actually
33:47where he was throwing the ball deep a ton and uh ball was not coming out quick and then he really sped up his process
33:53as a rookie which is super smart. So I'm I love Jaden Daniels. I think he's in for a big season. Terry McLaren part,
34:00you know, paired with him is is a is a really good pair because McLaren can do literally everything. Great ball skills,
34:05great route runner, run after catch stuff.
34:07>> And I know Scott loves Jaden Daniels. He weren't Wasn't he an Exodia for you as a rookie, Scott?
34:12>> That's right. Yeah, that worked out really well for us.
34:14>> I think there's a and and and this can be I think it depends on how you view him, but like
34:21there's like a Russell Wilson vibe to him a little bit as a deep thrower where he can just drop it in a bucket
34:26>> deep down the field. He gives his receivers a chance. It reminds me a little bit of like the DK Metaf Tyler
34:32Lockett connection that Russell Wilson had early on in his career where they were just throwing it deep and it was really effective. Um, I think the
34:41Commanders probably have to get like a a run game going this year in order to like really tap into that where they can
34:46kind of, you know, like play the run against the pass and all that stuff.
34:50But, um, I think Jay Daniels has it in his bag to like, you know, hit on a lot of deep throws, a lot of deep
34:56touchdowns. um and you know obviously have a huge bounceback year. I just think he's a really good player and like you mentioned the wise beyond his years
35:05type of vibe that he brought like he immediately just like I said he just did not look like it was too big. He looked
35:10like he belonged right away. Um and you know I think he can get back to that.
35:15>> Yeah. My my Lions I'm a Lions fan for those that don't know. You know they were the number one seed in the playoffs
35:20that year. They go in, get the first round buy, and run into rookie Jaden Daniels and the Commanders who absolutely clapped them.
35:28>> Dude, it was that was a crazy game. Just off of them. It was wild.
35:33>> Yeah, to be fair, the Lions were they had like one starter on defense that played, >> but they lost like one starter a week
35:40for the whole season. It was like crazy.
35:42>> Um, but yeah, uh, I don't know. I don't think I don't necessarily think the commanders are going to be like getting
35:47back to doing that, but I do think Jane Daniels has it in them to kind of turn back into the magician we saw as a
35:53rookie.
35:54>> Totally agree. All right, number three.
35:57Another wide receiver, one in Tampa Bay, Mecha Ebuka, Ohio State guy. I feel like Danny, when he was coming out, you and I
36:04argued about him on my show, I think. I could be wrong, but um so I'm curious to hear your take. This is this is a fun
36:10one. Yeah, I don't I don't remember exactly what we what we said about it, but I think to me he's just um he's he's
36:17a professional receiver. He might not be the fastest guy ever, um but he knows how to run routes. Uh he generally has
36:25good hands, although he famously dropped a >> touchdown last year. That would have been I think it would have been a
36:30game-winning touchdown he dropped it.
36:31But like for the most part, very reliable receiver, just kind of knows where to be and how to time his routes
36:36and how to get open late and all that stuff. Um you know, the beginning of the year is a tale of two seasons. This is
36:42like a very similar argument, I think, to the Tyler Warren thing, which is the beginning of the season, he was absolutely going bonkers. A lot of that
36:51had to do with touchdowns, but he was still, you know, he was a big part of their offense early on. Um, and then as
36:56the season went on, he got hurt and he kind of faded down the stretch. And you know, I think those injuries always kind
37:02of can paint a picture of kind of like what a player is and and I think he has a chance to get back and and just
37:08looking at the the overall build of the the offense for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, like Mike Evans is gone. Um I think IA has a chance to be the number
37:17one target guy in this offense. I think Chris Godwin still a good player, but I don't know if he's ever going to get
37:22back to what he was earlier in his career. He's like coming off of multiple injuries. He's 30 30 years old. Um, I
37:29think Ibuka, the way that they've talked about him with Zach Robinson coming in and taking over play calling duties, they've talked about making him their
37:37sort of Z movement guy, move him around the formation, get him opportunities to get the football. Um, I'm just kind of
37:43betting on the upside. I don't He's probably not a good value right now necessarily um because I think he's getting steamed up, but I just believe
37:50in him as a player and I think this in this offense, I think Baker has a chance to have a big bounce back. I mean, two
37:55years ago, Baker had like 41 touchdowns.
37:58Um, he's a gunslinger who is willing to pull the trigger and willing and able to put up big numbers. So, I just kind of
38:04look at this if the if the Bucks offensive line can stay healthy, this is it's almost similar to the Dvonte Smith thing. If the if the
38:12offensive line can stay healthy and this offense the structure of the offense doesn't completely crumble under the weight of all so many injuries on the
38:18offensive line, I think they could be much much more efficient and Ibuka could be a big beneficiary of that. I I've
38:24said on this podcast multiple times that AMA Acha Ibuka is maybe the trickiest player for me in all of drafts right
38:33now. Uh but shout out again to Jeff Mueller. We're working on this injury article together and uh yeah, so I'll frame it like this with Ibuka. The first
38:43five weeks of the season, he was a top five fantasy wide receiver. It was the third most fantasy points by a rookie
38:48wide receiver through first five career games since the fall of the Berlin Wall.
38:54All time great all time great start to a year. And then for the next like seven, eight, nine weeks, it like he was the
39:02least efficient wide receiver by fantasy points over expectation. And then over the last four weeks of the season when Chris Godwin was healthy, Mike Evans was
39:11healthy, Jaylen McMillan was healthy, he was like the wide receiver four. like he had a 50% route share. So it started off
39:17amazing, went really bad. And so it's like what's the explanation for that?
39:22And I'm talking to Jeff Mueller, our injury expert. He puts it all on injury.
39:26He he said, you know, the injury he suffered in week six was was an injury that you need to take one to two weeks
39:33off of, but like Tampa Bay's training, you know, co training staff is like notoriously awful. and they, you know, didn't give him time to rest and
39:43recover, which means like he he never had a chance to recover from that injury. So, he's just playing at like 80
39:4990% effectiveness for the next however many weeks. And you see it in the data.
39:54Ben Solak dug into the NextG stats, mile per hour, speed, and whatnot. And you really see a falloff from Igbuka, but
40:01it's not just Ibuka. It's also Baker Mayfield.
40:04>> Mayfield was on the injury report >> with an injury 11 times last year. He had like eight separate injuries.
40:11>> Foot, toe, biceps, knee, oblique illness, left shoulder, right shoulder injuries. And so in that middle bulk of the season I was talking about, uh,
40:22Ibuka ranked dead last in catchable throw rate. Um, and Baker Mayfield's completion percentage over expectation was only better than Shadur Sanders. Uh,
40:31so yeah, you really saw, you could blame it on Baker's injuries, you could blame it on Ibuka's injuries. either one is
40:38sufficient and you could really also point it at both. And so what you're left with is just a player with immense
40:44upside. No Mike Evans. We know this is a great passing offense. Um and you know he's playing the Zack Robinson Z role
40:53that Cooper Cup played. Uh could catch a ton of balls be a PPR cheat code. Um not playing out of position in the Z
41:01anymore. Uh in the X now move to the Z.
41:04So yeah, I I I like this.
41:07>> Not to uh you know, be >> rain on the parade, if you will.
41:11>> Well, I was going to say like how is he like the 1500th wide receiver to be in the quote unquote Cooper Cup Z role?
41:17>> Yeah.
41:17>> It's like you know that that that's a new guy every year and it usually doesn't work out that way. I don't IA
41:23didn't really play the X that much to me last year. You know, I looked at our data. We have we do track that. I mean,
41:29it was 40% of the time, you know. How often did the Lions press him last year and how do you do how often did the
41:35Saints press him last year and how do you do >> that was actually concerning he got completely blanked by a Lion secondary
41:40that was missing every starter >> right and so when you're the correct me if I'm wrong when you're the Z you see
41:45press coverage less frequently than the X right >> yeah but even as we stated earlier in the show even like the most prominent X
41:52type is getting pressed at most 100 times a season >> yeah it was still 80 routes it's still like 20% of his routes and he was the
42:02worst wide receiver in football >> by ass against press coverage. He had like a 0.23 yards per route run. So it's
42:10we're talking about hey 20% of routes that that makes a big difference. So >> sure.
42:15>> Yeah. You know if you if you go back to his college career I think that was kind of a story too. He's like 73% slot. I'm
42:22looking at the numbers. Um he was much more of a you know power receiver, power slot type of guy who can find open space
42:30in the zone. Um reliable hands and low >> he also wasn't a deep threat at all at all.
42:35>> He was like yeah he was intermediate threat you know and I think uh a change mover type I guess you'd say even though
42:41he can't necessarily he's not necessarily a prototypical lineup and beat a guy off a press type of receiver.
42:46I think he could still be um a high volume pass catcher, but it just the role needs to be like suited to his
42:54skill set. I think >> it is really interesting how we give like certain offenses like benefit of the doubt because of injuries. Like the
42:59Chargers for example, like everyone has a really bad taste left in their mouth from this Tampa Bay offense last year.
43:05But they forget >> all of the offensive line injuries. They forget that Baker Mayfield tore like his upper body in half in like week 15 or
43:12whatever it was. literally couldn't throw a football but still played.
43:16>> And then Ibuka was dealing with his own injuries. I I do think there's like a lot of grace that needs to be extended.
43:22And if we're going to give these other guys a pass, I'm guilty of doing this myself.
43:25>> Mhm.
43:26>> Then we probably need to give Tampa Bay a pass. And and Ibuka is probably a guy that is rightfully being steamed up, I
43:31guess. No. Evans and and you know, I think Jaylen McMillan's okay. I think, >> you know, Ted Hurst is okay, but there's
43:38not a ton of target competition here.
43:40There's there's role players in the mix, you know, so he he could be pretty big time.
43:45>> All right, finally >> to just to tack one last point onto that and this might just be more personnel than uh quarterback, but I think I was
43:53looking it up the other day and and Baker Mayfield was one of the guys who threw the tight end the least. He But it
43:57just kind of makes sense to me because he's like a a gunslinger. He's like >> if he sees something even remotely close
44:03to open, he's pulling the trigger. He's not going to like check it down. Um >> it's very true. you know, his first
44:08couple of reads. And so, you know, like like what you were saying, there's not a lot of target competition and it's not
44:13like they're going to throw a ton to uh Kateton or whoever. I don't know if they added any other tight ends this off
44:18seasonason, but um but yeah, I think yeah, they didn't really. So, so yeah, I'd say there's a chance that he gets a
44:25lot of upside, a lot of targets in this offense.
44:28>> How how fun is Baker tape, by the way?
44:30>> Oh, it's the best.
44:31>> So, so that's an added bonus here is you you draft a Bua, you get to watch a bit more Baker every week. Yeah, my my
44:38ongoing bit at the at our show, the Ringer Fantasy Football Show, plug um is >> best podcast best fantasy football podcast by far. I tell you this all the
44:46time. It's it's wildly [laughter] entertaining. It's so good and Danny's sharp as as hell.
44:50>> It's the only non-fantasy point show I listen to if I'm being quite honest.
44:54That is high high praise. I appreciate that. Um my bit with Baker is just like he just wants to rip passes. That's all.
45:00He was born to rip passes. He's going to be ripping passes, you know, for the rest of his days. He's going to be
45:05sitting on his porch ripping passes. He just wants to be ripping passes at all times.
45:09>> Hell yeah. That's why he's the best. I Top of the list and dog rankings. Top the list and gunslinger rankings.
45:16>> Yeah.
45:17>> Ripping passes. Ripping sigs.
45:19>> Ripping sigs.
45:20>> I love how emotional he plays. Like you can tell when he's pissed, he plays pissed. When he's happy, he plays happy.
45:25Like it's just it's kind of funny.
45:27>> All right, we're seven deep and we're getting to our first running back.
45:29Kenneth Walker III.
45:32>> Had to do it.
45:32>> The Kansas City Chiefs. Yeah. Uh there's been a lot of talk about him all off seasonason. I think >> for a lot of people the take comes down
45:40to whether the Chiefs go through an identity change or not because of the Mahomes injury and and the offense basically sucking for three years. Where
45:46are you at on Kenneth Walker? [laughter] >> I I think every year of his career I've been in on Kenneth Walker. That hasn't
45:53necessarily worked out great for me. Um but I just I just remain confident that he is a awesome runner. Like you know
46:01what I mean? Like even looking at your guys' numbers, uh first a miss tackles force per attempt last year with guys
46:06among guys with 50 rushes. Third, an explosive run rate. Um he's an explosive play waiting to happen. That to me is
46:13the definition of what you want to get out of a running back in this day and age. I know that like
46:20plotting tackle breakers that can get like get you four or five yards or whatever, those are those guys are important. They're not not important,
46:27but big plays, explosive plays, getting those explosives out of a run game are is so crucial for for an offense because
46:35it's it's just um it just helps provide so much more balance. It helps get the defense um you know, on their heels and
46:42that allows what the quarterbacks to do what they want to do with their arms.
46:45And so um I just think Kenneth Walker, there's a reason they went out and signed him. There's a reason he left
46:49Seattle, which is every time the Seahawks got even close to the end zone, they take him off the field. Um, so I
46:56think there's a chance that he could have a lot more touchdown up outside than he has in previous years. I think
47:01that's like the first thing. And then I also do think, you know, we've seen it in the past that uh Andy Reid offenses
47:08love the screen game, love dialing up screens, creative screens, get a guy in space, let him do his thing. Keith Walker is one of the best run after
47:14catch creators. He's just one of the best space players in the NFL. Um, tons of broken tackles, big plays, he has the
47:20breakaway speed. Um, I think the only kind of two hang-ups with him, there's one is the injury history. He's just been hurt in his career, but I mean, you
47:30kind of have that with every running back. Like, you just have to you have to accept that some running backs are going
47:35to get hurt. And then, you know, the the vision slash uh decision-m sometimes has been called into question with K Walker,
47:42like his success rate isn't necessarily as high as some other guys. Um, but success rate doesn't count how many yards you're getting after the catch. It
47:50doesn't count big plays. is just did you get the x amount of yards on a play? Um and I think that is kind of like a the
47:57hidden thing with success rate where Kenth Walker is creating those big plays for you. So um you know when he got when
48:02he got full like in at least in the Seahawks context like Bellcow usage which was in the the playoffs division round uh championship round and Super
48:12Bowl all three of those games he had over 60% snaps which I think was like the first time all year he'd done that.
48:18He averaged 23 points per game at half PBR, almost 25 touches a game. Um, and I think he's a better pass catcher than
48:25he's given credit for. He's not like he's not like a Christian McAffrey by any means, but he can catch the ball and
48:29he can run after catch. And I think in Andy Reed's offense, there's a ton of upside there that we maybe haven't seen
48:35in a little while because they've just had jags at at the running back position, for lack of a better word. So,
48:41um, I'm just excited to see a a highly highly talented runner in this offense.
48:45I mean, he he could do kind of what Craig Hunt was doing when he was healthy and in his prime.
48:50>> Sure. Yeah. I think Kenneth Walker's like the perfect roar shack test of NFL philosophy. It's like >> Yeah.
48:56>> We like having a running back that keeps you on schedule and opens up those play action shots that that's really
49:01valuable. But also, we know analytically like any drive because of the way field position is now, any drive that gets one
49:08explosive play, it increases your your chance of scoring points like exponentially, like almost 2x. So >> there there's like this hidden value
49:16with with Walker where like his EPA per attempt when he's on the field hasn't been great, but I think it's masked
49:22because those explosive runs usually wind up with the drive ending in points.
49:26And he does he over the last two years he's number one in the famous points data suite in four miss tackles per
49:31attempt ahead of James Connor and Jir Gibbs and Bejian Robinson, the guys that you would probably expect to be above him. So I think he is definitely a
49:39special player. He's got some Saquon to him as you mentioned where the vision gets a little he's a little home runheavy at times, you know, trying to
49:46search for those creases. But >> I'm just curious like is this Chief's offense finally going to evolve? They've been bad for three years, like
49:52legitimately bad and they've really haven't been they've been such a pass heavy team pass rate over expectation in the top three each of the last three
49:59years, but it hasn't manifested in good passing offense. So, it's like, are we finally going to see them protect Patrick Mahomes with a good run game
50:06here? that. Yeah. Yeah. I'm inclined to believe they will. They spent the money on it. They also drafted Clyde Edwards air in the first round and did nothing
50:13with him. So, I don't know.
50:14>> I know. But like Clyde Edwards was a fine that was a reach based on pretty much everyone, right? Like everyone was
50:21like, "Oh, okay." That >> Brett had a day three grade on him.
50:24>> Yeah. I mean, he he was an interesting player for like he was a good pass catcher. Like there's theories that he
50:29could be used as a pass catcher in this offense, but no one ever thought he was like this explosive make you miss
50:34runner. And Kenneth Walker on the other hand, I I loved coming out. He was just so explosive, so elusive, big plays, and
50:41we've seen that translate to the NFL. I just think he's on a different level.
50:44Um, but there is a chance like, so there's a lot of variables here obviously like Patrick Mahomes is the big one. Um, can he be healthy? You
50:53know, big part of Patrick Mahomes's game quietly is scrambling and not necessarily scrambling to get yards, but scrambling out of the pocket and keeping
51:02the play alive so he can spin around six times and then finally find a guy down the field. Um, you know, and so his lack
51:09of movement ability early in the season will be interesting to see how that like looks and how he if he has to get rid of
51:14the ball quicker because he's kind of one of those guys that can just make magic happen, you know, when when he
51:21doesn't see the first read or first two reads. Um, and their offensive line, I think, has a chance to be good, but
51:27there's just so there's so many question marks like is Josh Simmons gonna be playing and healthy? Um, you know, and so I think the theoretically I think
51:36they could be really good and get back to what they are. It's going to take a few things clicking. The other thing
51:39here, the big one is the offensive coordinator. Like Matt Naggie's gone.
51:44They just let him leave, which is like kind of one of the more underrated storylines of the offseason. the Giants signed Matt Naggi and it was just like
51:53>> you just like they just let him leave.
51:55They didn't even want him. They're like, "Yeah, could you just go? Thank you." Um so bringing back Eric Benemy as the
52:02quote unquote offensive coordinator um will be interesting. Not that not that you know you know obviously Andy Reid's the one that's really running the
52:10offense but um I think the the idea is Bene is much more of like a drill sergeant type of coach and maybe he can
52:17get the team kind of back in mind and and executing at a higher rate. So we'll see. Ultimately I trust M Patrick
52:24Mahomes. I trust Andy Reid even though he's had a couple of down years. And I do think Kenneth Walker is a better
52:30running back than they've had basically since the prime Kareem Hunt years. You know what I mean?
52:35So it could be it could prod it could translate to a lot of fantasy points.
52:41>> Yeah. Benemy too worth noting was like the running back's coachruname coordinator in Casey before he became the offensive coordinator. So I think
52:48there's some truth to that like bringing him in to help fire up that run game a little bit. Um and it's been bad since
52:53he left if we're being honest. So yeah, Scott, do you have anything on on Kenneth Walker? Are you ready to move
52:57on?
52:57>> Uh we can move to the next one.
52:59>> He's like I don't want to talk about Kenneth Walker. Yeah, I mean like our our subscribers definitely have some Kenneth Walker PTSD after last year and
53:06like this. So, you know, throw out injury risk. To me, the medium projection is like 2017 Kareem Hunt, >> which was freaking awesome. He had 1,300
53:17rushing yards, 455 receiving yards, and 12 or more touchdowns. Um, so the big concern here is injury risk where you
53:27see the soft tissue sports hernia injuries. You see, hey, he was load managed last year. He was stuck in a 5050 committee with Zack Charbanet who
53:36stinks. He's so much better than Zack Charbanet. Is that some injury risk that's not being priced in? According to Jeff Mueller, yet another shout out to
53:45our new injury expert, not really. He's he's not worried. said, "Hey, hey, he didn't have any sports injury, uh, sports hernia in injuries for over a
53:54year." Um, you know, and it's like, what did Kansas City do? They paid him a ton of money. The no one behind him on the
54:00depth chart. All the coaches are saying they want him to be a a bellcow. He's going to catch a ton of balls. Um, and
54:08so, yeah, he's he's not really worried at all about the injury. I he thinks Derrick Henry carries more injury risk.
54:14And that was kind of, you know, I I had them neck and neck in my rankings and I assumed I had to rank Walker a little
54:20bit lower just because of the added injury risk. And no, if if not, no, he has way more upside, I think. Although
54:27this this might just be the perfect segue into your number one, Danny.
54:32>> Yeah. And I'm actually looking at my rankings. I have I maybe gave this to you guys backwards because I have
54:37Derrick Henry one spot below uh Kenneth Walker. But >> there we go. We have the same rankings then. But Dererick Henry, I mean, to me,
54:44it's just a matter of >> I don't like he's just gonna keep going.
54:49Ride this thing until the wheels fall off. Like, honestly, you know, >> I'll fade him after he retires. Maybe.
54:54Maybe.
54:54>> I'll fade it. Yeah, I'll fade him when I'm dead. You know what I mean? Like, he is just continues to do it
54:59year in and year out. Um, he was the RB7 last year in points per game. And this is basically on rushing production only,
55:06you know what I mean? Because he's not like a passcatching type of player. Um, Henry is one of those players, it's very
55:10funny. We talk about this on our show all the time. He is there are plays where he looks like the worst running
55:16back in the NFL. Like he gets if he gets caught behind the line of scrimmage.
55:21This is a hyitz joke, but he looks like the the the video of Saddam Hussein statue like toppling over. You know what
55:26I mean? Like from like the Gulf War, like he just like just can't move his feet. He gets hit immediately and he
55:33just goes ah tips over. Um and it's like my god this looks like the worst running back in the NFL. Then if you give him
55:39literally one step in any direction, he is unstoppable. He's a freaking titan out there. Um and so, you know, he's an
55:47explosive play guy. Um he finished, and I think I didn't check this, but if you look at it, he probably finished over
55:54expectation and fantasy points every year of his career. He finished almost I that's I'm just guessing. I didn't actually say that, but he is. Last year,
56:02he finished almost three points over expected in fantasy points just because he's Derrick Henry. is hitting like huge plays. Um second in yards uh on
56:10explosive runs last year over 600 yards rushing on just explosive plays. So he's a big play guy. 10th in explosive run
56:17rate. Um fourth in yards after contact and this is as a 30-year-old, you know, freak of nature type running back. Um
56:26and crucially, and this is probably more important because you can't expect him to necessarily keep going forever. Yeah, 85% of the team's carries inside the 5
56:32yard line. I don't really see that changing this year. Um there's basically no other there's not much competition in this Ravens backfield in terms of running
56:42backs like right now. Like right now Justice Hill remains the number two receiver or running back. He's basically there to >> play on passing downs only and that's
56:51not Derrick Henry's game anyway and it has never been Derrick Henry's game really. Um so I see a very similar role.
56:58I see a path to a ton of volume. Um the only worry I guess would be that Declan Doyle comes in here and just decides to
57:06do a full committee which I think would be probably not very smart. Um because it just you know it kind of changes
57:13Derrick Henry is one of those players who does need volume. He does need to keep you like going throughout the game
57:19like and and he is a cliche machine like wear down the defense. The 18th run is going to be the one that he busts for 70
57:26yards whatever. Um, [laughter] so yeah, I just think he had a stat he's going to continue to do what he's done. Yeah.
57:36>> Yeah. I just sat like that with Derk Henry where like it's like first quarter he averages like 3.5 yards per carry for
57:43his career. Second quarter 3.7, third quarter 4.5. Fourth quarter like 6.7.
57:50And it's also true by the month. If you go like September, October, November, December, he's like 7.6 yards per carry.
57:58>> He's a He is a walking cliche and I love it.
58:02>> Here's here's a crazy Derrick Henry stat. We always say he owns November, December, seven of the final eight games last year. Uh went over 100 yards total.
58:11>> Mhm.
58:11>> Receiving, rushing, and had 10 touchdowns to finish your fantasy season. It's disgusting.
58:16>> He was He was one of the most valuable He won people championships last year.
58:20>> Yeah. 216 yards and four touchdowns in championship weekend last year. That's that's absurd.
58:25>> I know. I lost to highs because of this guy. Uh he tried to the the in our league that we do together, he tried
58:31to trade me Derrick Henry right before the playoffs and he was like trying to get me give him a a first round pick.
58:36I'm like, "Fuck you." And then Dererick Henry won him the championship. I was like, "Shit, I should have done it."
58:42>> Um >> I mean that has to be a good sign for a 32-year-old running back, right? That like, you know, as the season goes on,
58:48typically the old guys suck. their bodies start to fall apart and that's when >> Henry was at his best. [clears throat]
58:54>> It's the inverse. It's all the other guys that are like, "Fuck, I gotta tackle this guy." Like, are you kidding
58:59me? Did have you seen Derrick Henry?
59:01>> Exa Exactly.
59:03>> He's also chasing history and this could keep fueling him. He's currently 10th all time in rushing yards.
59:08>> Wow.
59:09>> I think fourth all time in rushing touchdowns. So, if he just this year, if he goes for like another 1,400 yards,
59:15he'll be sixth all time on the list >> with like a very clear run rate at number two overall. I don't think he'll
59:21ever get to number one, obviously, but he could finish his career number two of all time just in the next two seasons.
59:27So, >> and then touchdown wise, he could be, you know, number two within a couple seasons here. So, >> well, that that's my big stat on Derrick
59:34Henry is that he could easily lead the league in touchdowns this year. Two years ago, he had 18 touchdowns. Last year he had 16. The crazy thing about it
59:43is in both years he'd be one of my top touchdown regression candidates cuz two years ago Baltimore went like flukily
59:53pass heavy inside the red zone and Lamar Jackson completed like every single red zone pass attempt like that's never happened before 40 touchdowns didn't he
60:02that year.
60:03>> Right. So he he ran really unlucky that year and then last year Lamar Jackson missed a bunch of games. So it was
60:09Cooper Rush and Tyler Huntley and then even when Lamar Jackson came back it was he was like worse than Aaron Rodgers and
60:17so like if we expect a fully healthy Lamar Jackson that's more red zone drives more scoring opportunities. So it's crazy to think a guy 16 18
60:27touchdowns there's room for even more.
60:30And you know as we know touchdowns are worth a lot of fantasy points.
60:34>> He's got 10 plus in eight straight years. [laughter] He is as close to you get as printing money in fantasy. I mean, obviously it
60:42could everything could fall apart and we could look stupid now, but like I'm just I'm I'm riding this till the wheels fall
60:48off. The other thing that we should mention, too, which is >> it's like investing in Apple in like 1991, you know?
60:54>> Well, yeah, they probably peaked, right?
60:56No, they're like Yeah. Um the the other thing that's really important here that I think is going to only help him as his
61:03career goes on too is like when he was with the Titans, you know, he was the offense. He was the engine of the
61:09offense. He was the only one the defense had to really account for. Um well, I guess they had AJ Brown, but still like
61:16the offense wasn't designed to like get the most out of Derrick Henry, whereas um in Baltimore these last two years, so
61:232024, he had almost 2,000 yards. He had 1921 rushing yards and only didn't win like everything because Saquon Barkley just had a freakishly awesome year too.
61:34Um but then last year he had 1600 yards, 16 touchdowns. I mean, he is when you pair him up with Lamar Jackson in the
61:41backfield, like one of the greatest, coolest, and most scary from a defensive point of view combinations of players we've ever seen in the NFL in terms of like, you
61:51know, even they're just like handing off like with a the mesh point thing. Like you have to have a little bit of
61:56reaction time saved up or like you get frozen a little bit for the Mar Jackson keeper. like it creates just an extra
62:03little half step of room and that sometimes is all a Derrick Henry needs to get rumbling downfield. Um, and you know the other thing here is like Ben
62:11Johnson, Shawn Payeyton acolyte here, Declan Doyle. I don't know what to expect from him necessarily. Brett, maybe you have some insight on what to
62:19expect, but um, you know it if we if he's anything close to like the guys that he kind of came up under, this
62:25offense could make a massive jump, too.
62:27Yeah, the Lamar thing is insane because you're basically getting a free plus one at least on every rush. Yeah. Which is
62:34why his yards per carry jumped back up into the fives, right? He was like 44, 43, 42 to end his Tennessee career and
62:40now it's back >> into the fives pretty comfortably here.
62:43So, yeah, that that's a great point. I think Declan Doyle, the one thing Shawn Payton's always been good at >> is
62:49maximizing player talents. Like, hey, I have Michael Thomas. I know he does these two things insanely well. I'm gonna spam this until the league stops
62:57it. Right. And like yeah, I I think you know Declan Doyle has seen that both with Ben Johnson and Shawn Peyton. And
63:03that's gonna be modus operandi. It's like, hey, let's take advantage of this insane combo we have in Lamar Jackson, Dererick Henry.
63:09>> And they got they got Vego Wani, you know, they did they lost their center, which is obviously an important thing
63:14and we should mention um >> improve both guard spots though, >> right? And that's huge. I think that's huge for Lamar because Lamar was
63:22constantly just I mean he took way more sacks last year I think than he ever has in his career. It was like a huge
63:28problem the interior pressure. Um so yeah you know John Simpson at right guard, Vega Yanni uh at at left guard I
63:35assume and they just signed Ethan Posic.
63:38Um so yeah I think they're they they could be all right offensive linewise.
63:42They could even be better offensive linewise.
63:44>> Yep.
63:45Scott, anything else? I think yeah, I think something really interesting here about Henry and Walker. You're you're listing them both as my guys, but you
63:53can't really draft both of them in a snake league, but it it hits on something I I I just wrote about earlier
63:59today as I'm going through my rankings.
64:01So like tier one is at the running back position is Gibbs, Bejon, CMC, but then that tier two is like really tight where
64:09I I think I have Jonathan Taylor RB4 and then I have Walker and Henry like RB10, RB11. Uh, and so it seems like there's a
64:19big gap, but in an auction league, like I only want to be spending a couple of dollars more on Taylor than I would
64:26Henry, where they're very similar.
64:28They're very game script dependent. They don't catch a lot of passes. They really live and die on the >> Yeah. the strength of the offense as a
64:36whole. So, um, >> which offense do you trust more?
64:41>> Baltimore. Yeah.
64:42>> Yeah. I think pretty easily for me.
64:44Yeah.
64:45>> Sweet. Danny, this was awesome. Thank you so much for doing this. I told you under an hour. I lied. It's We're We're
64:51over an hour by a few minutes here. So, >> Right. Sorry.
64:54>> But, uh, that's okay. You did warn me that you like to yap, so like here we are. We're all yapping. But it was
64:59awesome. Thank you so much for listening. We can find Danny's work at uh the Ringer Fantasy Football Show.

65:32subscribe to the Ringer Fantasy Show.
65:36>> Yeah. And I don't, as I said, I don't listen to fantasy football content, but that show is the only one I do that's
65:41not one of our own shows. So, um you guys are tremendous. seriously like the the vibes just the you know you guys are
65:48all just bros broing out and it's just it's a it's a great time and we get a fair amount of fantasy points references
65:54on there too so I'm a little biased because you guys you guys give us props but uh >> oh yeah we we love everything that you
65:58guys do I mean you guys have like a super team you have amazing amazing data suite like I use the data suite every
66:05day legitimately um so >> Scott have you shown him 2.0 yet >> no no uh no one's supposed to know about
66:13that right now but [laughter] Uh we are gonna we are going to blow your mind with that and and yeah that's the perk
