Player insights

24

Amon-Ra St. Brown

PositiveUsage24:19

Matt Harmon characterizes Amon-Ra St. Brown as an elite player who serves as the focal point of the Lions' offense and should never have his target volume reduced.

Insight page

Antonio Williams

PositiveBreakout27:37

Matt Harmon highlights Antonio Williams as an emerging player who is earning targets and deserves more opportunities, noting that his emergence is shaving targets off Terry McLaurin.

Insight page

Chris Olave

NegativeUsage11:37

Matt Harmon is not worried about Chris Olave's target share, noting he is second in the NFL in targets and playing like a top-10 receiver with excellent chemistry with Tyler Shuck. Harmon emphasizes that the team is not pushing Jordan Tyson to take targets away from Olave.

Insight page

Cyrus Allen

NegativeBreakout36:48

Matt Harmon advises keeping expectations in check for the fifth-round rookie, noting he missed significant camp time due to injury. Harmon views him as a long-term dynasty stash who likely needs Xavier Worthy or Rasheed Rice to flop or move on to earn a starting role, emphasizing that fifth-round rookies rarely start immediately.

Insight page

Demario Douglas

NegativeRole29:28

Matt Harmon confirms that Demario Douglas remains the primary slot receiver for the team despite other shifts in the receiving corps.

Insight page

Drake London

NegativeValue16:48

Matt Harmon recommends exploring a buy-low trade for Drake London, noting that while the quarterback play has been 'abominably bad,' London has shown better chemistry with Michael Penix Jr. in the past. However, Harmon expresses concern over London's usage, noting his slot rate is down significantly with him playing outside on 80% of snaps compared to his more effective slot role previously.

Insight page

Jack Bech

NegativeRole17:09

Matt Harmon notes that Jack Besh is an effective big slot receiver and a good blocker, but his lack of elite speed creates a ceiling for his usage and snap count, particularly in two-receiver sets. Harmon believes Besh would be a better outside Z receiver option than Jaylen Naylor.

Insight page

Jameson Williams

NegativeUsage24:26

Matt Harmon describes Jameson Williams as a volatile player who is not an elite route runner but possesses elite speed for big plays; he expects Williams to finish near his ADP despite a rocky, inconsistent path. Harmon notes he will never be highly consistent in targets due to his specific skill set, with production dependent on the health of teammates like Sam LaPorta and Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Insight page

Jordyn Tyson

NegativeInjury11:38

Matt Harmon warns against assuming Jordan Tyson will return as a fully operational player due to a persistent hamstring issue. The Saints are prioritizing his long-term career health for 2027 and beyond, meaning his return will likely impact secondary players like Juwan Johnson or Devon Vele rather than Chris Olave.

Insight page

Juwan Johnson

PositiveRole12:25

Matt Harmon suggests that Juwan Johnson is a candidate to lose target share once Jordan Tyson returns to the Saints' lineup.

Insight page

Kalif Raymond

PositiveUsage8:20

Matt Harmon highlights Khalif Raymond as the primary beneficiary of short-route opportunities in the Bears' offense, noting his reliability when the quarterback is under pressure.

Insight page

Kayshon Boutte

NegativeRole29:33

Matt Harmon notes that Kayshon Boutte is utilized as the movement Z receiver and currently leads the team in routes run.

Insight page

Kyle Williams

NegativeRole29:44

Matt Harmon observes that Kyle Williams saw increased playing time in Week 2, though he remains primarily a reserve outside receiver for the team.

Insight page

Marvin Harrison Jr.

NegativeUsage0:58

Matt Harmon notes that Marvin Harrison Jr. has struggled significantly with separation in his first two games, effectively acting as a 'sacrificial X' receiver. While Harmon rejects the 'lazy' narrative and believes the viral clips of poor route running are cherry-picked, he acknowledges the player is not currently integrated into the game plan and must earn better usage from the new coaching staff.

Insight page

Puka Nacua

NegativeProjection38:36

Matt Harmon uses Puka Nacua as a historical outlier to temper expectations for fifth-round rookies like Cyrus Allen, noting that immediate production is rare.

Insight page

Rashee Rice

NegativeDepth Chart37:36

Matt Harmon identifies Rasheed Rice as a player whose potential failure or departure would be a prerequisite for Cyrus Allen to ascend to a starting role.

Insight page

Rome Odunze

PositiveRole9:00

Matt Harmon notes that Rome Odunze looked good in week two, playing on nearly all packages and running routes on 93% of dropbacks, establishing himself as the lead receiver in heavy personnel.

Insight page

Romeo Doubs

PositiveRole28:36

Matt Harmon notes a significant positive shift in Romeo Doubs' role, as he earned a route on 74% of dropbacks in Week 2 and played 91% of his snaps on the outside. Harmon emphasizes that this is the correct usage for Doubs, who previously struggled in a slot-heavy role, and highlights his impressive 4.8 yards per route run and more confident, decisive play.

Insight page

Sam LaPorta

PositiveUsage24:26

Matt Harmon notes that Sam LaPorta dominates targets in the Lions' offense, and his presence on the field correlates with target distribution shifts that impact Jameson Williams. Harmon suggests that LaPorta's target share would likely increase if Williams were removed from the field.

Insight page

Stefon Diggs

PositiveUsage26:26

Matt Harmon believes Stefon Diggs is the favorite to lead the Commanders in receiving, noting he has shown no signs of decline despite his injury history and has outperformed Terry McLaurin in targets and production so far.

Insight page

Terry McLaurin

NegativeUsage25:59

Matt Harmon is concerned about McLaurin due to Jayden Daniels' injury, the presence of Stefon Diggs, and the emergence of Antonio Williams, which collectively push McLaurin into a more volatile, X-heavy role.

Insight page

Tom Kennedy

NegativeDepth Chart24:44

Matt Harmon dismisses the idea that Tom Kennedy would see increased playing time or targets in the Lions' offense, even if other receivers were sidelined.

Insight page

Tre Tucker

PositiveBreakout18:05

Matt Harmon describes Trey Tucker as 'very good' and notes that he is a pending free agent, suggesting the team might look to add more receiver talent in the upcoming draft.

Insight page

Xavier Worthy

NegativeDepth Chart37:32

Matt Harmon identifies Xavier Worthy as a player whose potential failure or departure would be a prerequisite for Cyrus Allen to ascend to a starting role.

0:00What's going on everyone? Welcome to another edition of Reception Perception, the mailbag. We've got the September mailbag here. We've got a ton of
0:06questions from the RP subscribers in Discord. There's a lot to get into. Only two weeks of the season, but so much to
0:13take in already. Let's get into it.
0:22All right, as always, these questions come from the RP community in Discord.
0:27It is free to join the discord.
0:29Subscribers to the website get more channels, premium access, uh sneak previews by the way of charting in season. Sickos get a uh the sicko
0:38subscribers, our highest tier subscribers. You get access to our weekly live streams. So look, there's a lot to talk about in the Discord. That's
0:45great. But for free, you can ask questions to be featured every month in the mailbag here as we have a bunch for
0:52the September edition. So let's get into it here. First question comes from Mitch. And listen, we're going to just get this out of the way. We got three
0:58like Marvin Harrison Jr. questions to just talk about and riff off the top.
1:01Okay. Mitch asks, "What in the heck is going on with MHJ? Is he toast? He's out there running like a tight end." Rice
1:08Trout piggybacking off of this question.
1:10The clips online of MHJ's lazy route running. Is it laziness? Has his speed and agility addressed or are those clips just the cherrypicked bad examples?
1:19Vossi asked, "Status update on your Cardinals. Curious. How do you feel like it's going compared to what you thought?" Okay, first the last question
1:26first. I feel totally great about Cardinals. Curious. I mean, my god, like a week ago, we were riding high after beating the Chargers. The offense looked
1:33great. Uh, they got smacked by the Seahawks. Of course, they got smacked by the Seahawks. The Seahawks are the best defense in the NFL. I don't go back and
1:41watch it and be like, "Oh my god, Laflur is blowing it or this looks disgusting."
1:44You know, it's it's I think the offense actually looks good. Um, so not worried about Cardinals curious take at all.
1:51like 0% uh would be my worry meter there. The Marv worry meter is definitely higher. Um I've charted Marv's two games so far this year. I
2:00really didn't want to chart anybody two weeks here. Um but listen, it was such a big talking point. I figured I might as
2:06well go take a look at it and and break it down a little bit. But the reality is like Marv, these are the two two of the
2:12worst games I've ever seen him play from a separation standpoint. And you know, obviously like I hate to call any player
2:18I will you'll actually never hear me sit sit here and call a player lazy. I I think that's crazy to be throwing that
2:24stuff out, you know, from your desk or your couch or whatever. That's crazy.
2:28But um there's no question that like I think he knows he's not a part of the game plan through the first two weeks.
2:33Is that going to be the case going forward? I don't know. Um is this going to become an unbearable situation for
2:40the Cardinals? I don't know. Um, I think there's a lot of really up in the air questions with the Marvin Harrison Jr.
2:47Cardinal situation. Would I be shocked if he's dealt at the deadline? No. At this point, no, I wouldn't. Would I be
2:54shocked if he locks in and starts playing really well for an offense that I do think is welldesigned? I wouldn't be shocked by that at all. Um, does that
3:02mean I'm like holding on the candle for Marv? I I guess so, because I know what I saw through the first two seasons of
3:07his NFL career. I saw a good route runner and a guy who could separate, but a guy that certainly has gone through
3:14what I would say like our, you know, mental ups and downs at the position based on the way he's talked about like
3:19he's talked about some of this stuff, the confidence and and everything. I I don't know what's going on right now, but two bad games where he's basically
3:27just been a sacrificial X. uh does that like I don't think the last two games erase his entire profile as a player,
3:35but he's got to play better and I would like to see him used in different ways in different formations, but you got to
3:43earn those opportunities with a new coaching staff. Um so far through two games, it's not going well in that department. So that's sort of the state
3:50of the state on Marvin Harrison. I don't think it is over for Marv. Um and I do think those clips are definitely
3:58cherrypicked. Like I could also put together a threeclipip play of him running really good routes and getting open and the ball not going his way. Um
4:06Michael for even talked about that like they had an explosive opportunity available for him early in that Seahawks game. Pass protection just didn't hold
4:13up on that one. Those plays are out there too. So um I do feel bad for him that he's in this like social media doom
4:20cycle, but at the same time got to pick it up. Got to play better than we have these last two weeks. There's no
4:25question about that. All right, next question. Len Siki. Obviously, Bears pass catchers haven't lived up to the hype so far, but with Begent likely
4:33substituting one to four weeks, what Bears receiver is likely to benefit the most? You also have to consider the possibility, as I found out uh not long
4:40before we started recording this, that Case Keenum might start in week three for the Chicago Bears. I mean, my god, 59 points in week one and now Case
4:48Keenum in the year 2026 might be making a start in week three. Not what you want, especially going against a Philadelphia Eagles defense this week
4:55that is very, very good. Um, I think obviously the guys who run the shorter routes, like by the way, it's been
5:00Khalif Raymond. Um, Luther Burton's average depth of route is up this year over 11 yards. It's Khif Raymond's been getting those shorter layup
5:08opportunities. Raymond against the Vikings, four targets, four catches when Caleb Williams was under pressure. Um, I feel like a guy as Case Keenan would be
5:18getting that ball out quickly to those players. Now, if it's Bean, we saw him push the ball to Roma Dunay. we saw him
5:25push the ball to all of these guys or at least attempt to when he was in there.
5:28So, I think Begent I mean, of course, like it's different than when Caleb Williams is in there, but I think he can
5:33run the offense and get the ball to all of these guys. Um, I would say my general take on what's gone on with
5:40three pass catchers so far. One, Rome wasn't fully playing in week one, was fully playing in week two, basically played on all the packages, was the lead
5:49receiver and heavy personnel, ran around on 93% of the dropbacks. Looked really good. like the way he played in week number uh two. Uh there were just
5:57obviously plays where the pass protection doesn't hold up so nobody really got the ball downfield. Brian Forest over 80% blitz rate in week two
6:04against this Bears team. Crazy. Ben Johnson did get a little bit out coached in that one but thought Rome looked good. I don't think Luther Burn like
6:11it's weird that Luther Burn's not playing in all the personnel packages.
6:14Um could that be they're just ramping him back up after he had a groin injury and they're taking it slow? I think
6:20that's very possible. I thought the week one film on Luther Burton was so so. So I actually kind of believe that might
6:25point you in the direction that he's just not fully himself just yet. Coulson Lovelin unlucky in week one, left in to
6:31block a lot in week two. So that's sort of the state of the state with the Bears pass catchers. I would still be buying
6:37on all these guys long term. Certainly do need the quarterback healthy though for everything to come together as it did in week number one from the offense
6:45standpoint. Not to say anything about these guys and their fantasy points.
6:49Okay, number three. Uh, Crimson Shin said, "What happens to Olive when Jordan Tyson gets back?" Really interesting question because Chris Olive is second
6:59in the NFL in targets right now behind only Aman Ross St. Brown and just ahead of Jackson Smith and Jigba. You'd
7:05imagine that Tyson eats into that a little bit, but guys, do not assume Jordan Tyson is coming back and like is
7:11a fully operational player with this hamstring situation. That would be crazy. Um, I also think it would be crazy to take any work away from Chris
7:19Ave at this point because he is balling out of control. He's playing like a top 10 NFL receiver. We know from his
7:25reception perception profile that he can play like a top 10 receiver. He's always been capable of it. Now it's happening.
7:31Him and Tyler Shuck have unbelievable chemistry. We don't know about the chemistry with Jordan Tyson just yet.
7:36So, uh, I would not be falling into the hive mind of like, oh, Tyson's going to come back here and really take things
7:41away from Olave. That's usually not how it works. It's usually a guy like Jordan Tyson would come in here and take things
7:46away from Jawan Johnson, from Devon Vele, who these guys are having a nice start to their season, but I also think
7:52they got to ramp Tyson back slowly after this persistent hamstring issue has haunted him. I mean, basically for the last calendar year, that's got to be the
8:01prim like the primary focus for the Saints is Jordan Tyson's career and you know, being available in 2027 and beyond. And like you're not talking
8:09about this hamstring injury, not like let's push him really hard and take targets away from Chris Olive. I'm actually like 0% worried about Olive and
8:17any of that future stuff right now. All right, number four comes in from Nick.
8:21Two weeks into the season, if you had to make one extra bold, good or bad take on a quarterback so far, what would it be?
8:27Um, I mean, I think the two guys like I wish I could make a bold call on would be one Tyler Shuck who started really
8:33slow in week one against the Lions, but otherwise has been excellent. Uh, I love the way he operates that offense in New Orleans. Such a fan of his. The
8:42other one would be Bryce Young. I mean, who has played excellent football through two weeks and I think could actually continue
8:49to be one of the most productive passers in the NFL. Like, what's the bold prediction there? I don't know. But I
8:54wish I had even emphasized more that people were completely discounting the idea that Bryce Young could take a step forward this year. Like, nope. The
9:03amount of replies they get like, "Oh, you're drafting Jaylen Koger. Bryce Young's averaged 150 passing yards per game." He's I I I believe he's actually
9:09gonna keep maybe not playing at this high of a level as we've seen the first two weeks. Obviously, good matchups with
9:15the Bears and the Falcons, but like he's capable of having these big games. And I think a lot of that is because Brad
9:22Edzick taking over the play calling has changed the way this offense functions.
9:25And I'm buying that that's going to continue to happen because he's throwing a Tedo McMillan and Jaylen Coker now, not DJ Charark and, you know, Jonathan
9:32Mingo like he was in his rookie year. I I really couldn't care less about that anymore. All right, number five comes in
9:38from Midas. We see teams take good separators and pigeon hole them into low value or low usage roles all the time.
9:46Are there some coaches/quarterbacks who value separation more than others?
9:50Please name them. Well, I definitely have no idea who the coaches that value separation um more than others. Couple things I
9:57would like take issue with the question.
10:00One, I don't think this happens all the time. Um I think it does happen for sure. Um, I also think again like
10:06there's a difference between good separators and good route runners. Um, like separation I I really don't care about. I care about like do you get
10:13open? Yes, no. Binary, yes, no. Do you get open consistently? And we do see guys who get open consistently play in
10:20low value, low usage roles. That does happen. Um, the the thing about this is to to me you kind of have to look at this
10:30sometimes as again a bit of a binary thing. Pass fail. Some coaches are going to say, "Well, yeah, the guy gets open
10:35at the level that I need him to get to.
10:37Just because this guy gets open at a 10% higher rate, does that really make a difference?" I'm not sure. Um, there are
10:44also roles within a receiver room that certain guys can or cannot fill. I think that's a big part of it. Um, you know,
10:51there's also guys that are better separators that don't finish at the catch point or don't block physically like dimensions wise. Some coaches
10:57definitely are, I think, a little bit too harded hard-headed when you're thinking about like size and dimensions about in the run game, stuff like that.
11:05Like, are you willing and able to give effort? Like, there are big guys who are not good blockers. There are small guys
11:09who give good effort as blockers and are able to get that thing done. So, I think that's probably the biggest hindrance is
11:15just general stubbornness for some of these guys. Uh, at other times though, again, it's like, okay, I'm just just using this as an example.
11:24the player that Matthew Golden is so far this year has been at his prime that like you really you we got to sub out Jaden Reed
11:36for uh you know Matthew Golden. So that's kind of what I mean by it's yes no as opposed to this guy's 10% or 5%
11:44better like what does that really make a difference for when you're talking about like the scheme and the actual route concepts and designs there. That's
11:51another part of it too. Obviously, I'm looking at players in isolation at reception perception. I think that's the right way to do it. But from a coaching
11:57standpoint, you're also thinking about like how do the route concepts all flow together and how do we get guys like with this route to open up another thing
12:05in the offense. That's a big part of it too. So, there's just a lot of like considerations we don't have. And the
12:09other thing and last thing I would say about this, and this is something we'll just like almost always never know, sometimes guys just like can't handle
12:17playing multiple roles from like the mental side of it. Not to say guys are dumb or anything like that. That's not
12:23what I'm saying at all. But just like the ability to retain and execute information, like that's a big part of it that we'll never know. And I've
12:29certainly heard stories about like, oh well, that's why that guy didn't play.
12:32You know, that's why that guy didn't play more is because like they just couldn't put that much more on his plate
12:36from a multiple roll perspective or a high snap usage. So, that's a big part of it as well. Uh, a lot of this stuff
12:42we'll just never know and that's the reality of being on the outside. It will always be that way. All right. Sixth one
12:48comings in from June Bug. Uh, how much say do players have in alignment or is it always up to coaches to line up wide
12:54receivers where they think they should be or where they need them to be? Kind of dovetales into the last question.
13:00It's usually a coach's decision. Uh, and you got to go out and execute your given role. Good example of this was like
13:05Michael Wilson with the 2025 Cardinals where he was playing as the Z receiver and then as soon as they threw him into
13:11the X, Michael Wilson started balling because he fits that role and he's a good player and the targets started flowing his way because that's where the
13:19reads play out from the passing progression standpoint. So, it's usually up to coaches. I mean, you have to be like a high high superstar player to
13:26come in there and be like, uh, yeah, I'm actually going to line up here. But, you earn that by being a really good player.
13:30Like, you don't just nobody just gifts you that. So, I I would say it's I don't know, ballpark random percentage 95
13:37maybe 99% 97% up to the coaches and players have to uh you know kind of fit into the roles they want and play really well to demand more
13:47usage. All right, Cavalier Domer says, "Which teams are playing most differently scheme personnel use than you expected based on coaching coordinator changes in the offseason for
13:57better or worse?" Um, great question. I would say just a few off the top here and I have my sheet to look this up. Uh
14:05Jets are playing very differently than they did last year. Uh they're using a lot more gap runs to take advantage of
14:12that offensive line. Uh their plays per game have gone up. Their use of heavy personnel has gone up. Uh their use of
14:20under center has really gone up. They're certainly a very improved team. Packers are playing with a lot more pace than they did last year. their pace score is
14:29way up. Um, other teams too, you know, Tampa Bay has definitely changed a lot uh in terms of how much more three plus
14:37receivers they're using. Their play action rate has gone up as well.
14:42Effectiveness, you know, that's a little bit of a different question. That's a little bit of a different question when we're talking about that part of it. So,
14:49that's got to get corrected. That's got to get fixed. The Charger scheme has definitely changed. Heavy personnel usage has really gone up based on what
14:56we saw last year. uh their static score.
14:58You know, I talk about my static score all the time. You know, under center usage, motion, heavy personnel, uh play action that they're looking much better
15:06in the static score. Just got to start playing better. I think they can, but the players have to execute. I think the
15:13coach has to cut some fat with this offense. That's a big part of this as well. So, those are teams that I think
15:19are on that end of it from a negative standpoint. Actually, this is not negative, but the Bills are a huge shifting offense from a pass rate
15:27standpoint. How much they're using heavy personnel? That's been really uh welcome to see for sure. Okay, let's move on.
15:35Number eight, Coach B. Smooth says, "Would you trade for Drake London?" I love a straightup question. Uh in fantasy, yes, I probably would try to
15:42explore buying low on Drake London because the Cooper Rush stuff was just like abominably bad. I don't know how much of a solution Michael Pennix is,
15:51but him and Drake London have at least had good timing and good chemistry together before. So, I would explore a buy low option on Drake London. The one
15:59concern I have with London is that like his slot rate is definitely down this year. He's on the outside on over almost
16:06about 80% of his snaps so far. That is a little bit of an issue for me because he was such a good weapon from the slot in
16:13the previous scheme and I don't really love a lot of what I've seen out of the Falcons so far. Like they're one of
16:18these teams on the like to the last question. Motion percentage is down from fourth to 24th. Their under center usage is down uh is actually up, but the
16:29effectiveness is certainly not there.
16:30Their heavy personnel groupings are down. It's hard to say because they've just been so abhorent and like we're talking about Cooper Rush under center.
16:37They've been in a lot of trailing game scripts. That's certainly a part of what they're doing here. But I think that's I
16:43have some ecosystem concerns. Let's put it at that. Nevertheless, I would still at least explore like can you get Drake London in a throwaway situation uh in a
16:50trade. I I would at least take a look at it, but I'm not like desperately trying to buy low on Drake London if that uh
16:56helps answer the question there. All right. Number nine comes in from Ryan.
17:00Is Las Vegas good? And what areas does Jack B need to improve to start getting more snaps? Um, Jack Besh, I would say,
17:09has played well. He's a really good blocking receiver. He's an awesome big slot. I kind of think they've got the right role for him. Um, I'd like to see
17:16him play outside, play more Z receiver.
17:18I think he'd be better than Jaylen Naylor with that. But, you know, there's just always going to be a limitation with Jack B because he's not the fastest
17:25player. Like, he's a nice route runner, a solid separator, is a smart player, catches everything, blocks well, but I think there might always be some like
17:33speedbased limitations. Like if you look at Jack Bash's success by route chart in 2025, as we're showing here, these are a
17:40lot of the routes he's running. But when you can't win down the field at all, there's going to be some limitations in
17:46how they can use you. And with the fact that this is a two receiver set, um it might just always be a limit on his
17:52snaps, but he's really been effective in the role that they've asked him to play so far. And yeah, I think Clint Kubak is
17:58definitely good. So on the Vegas question as a whole, yes, this team is one I want to buy in on in the future.
18:05Can we just get them like a real deal outside? Trey Tucker is very good. He's a free agent at the end of this year.
18:11Could they be looking at a receiver draft pick next year? I certainly think that is possible. This scheme could be excellent if that came to pass. Okay,
18:19number 10. Davey, which players and which offenses have you had the most fun watching so far this season? Who slashw which teams are you most excited to
18:26follow through the rest of the season?
18:28Uh, I would give the answer of the Buffalo Bills in terms of which offenses I'm having the most fun watching right
18:32now. Josh Allen is playing at such a high level. Physical freak and physical freak and he's someone that has clearly mastered the mental part of the game as
18:43well. So much to like about what Josh is doing and I think the scheme is excellent as well. So really f really
18:49big fan of what the Bills have done so far. Um, most excited to follow through the rest of the season. It's actually
18:53some of these teams that have gotten off to slow starts like Tampa Bay, like the Chargers, you know, Bayers, some of
18:58these pass catchers. Can we get more from them? Those are the teams I want to follow and just kind of check in with to
19:04see what we think about what this team, what these teams might end up looking like. Actually, onto the next question here. This is one situation I want to
19:11follow and I'm kind of excited to keep track with. Number 11, uh, Shark asked, "How much would you weigh Dantavian Wix's emergence through two weeks as
19:20improvement versus opportunity?" I think this Eagles team could actually end up being more of a pass first team than we've ever seen before. And it's
19:29primarily because their run game is not good. Um whether it's Barkley, whatever.
19:34Um you know, I don't know. But the offensive line has been a problem.
19:38They're shuffling guys. Landon Dickerson's hurt. The interior has been an issue. Is it the scheme? Lot to consider there. But they ran 11
19:45personnel on 76% of their overall plays through the first two weeks of the season. that trails only Tampa Bay. Uh they were also first in no huddle
19:54percentage in week two. I kind of think we'll see this team throw the football more. And for Mai Lemon, uh who you know is a
20:03rookie getting his feet wet. Devonte Smith, awesome number one receiver as we expect him to be. He's been fantastic so far. Nontavian Wix has also been really,
20:13really good. Uh, I think it's some improvement in terms of the consistency in some of the details and also he's like just getting more of the
20:20opportunity and he seems to keep stacking good moments and continuing to earn those opportunities. So, I definitely think it's a little bit of
20:27both, maybe even outright 50/50 that he's improved on the little details and that has also earned him more opportunities here as we've seen from a
20:35coaching staff that helped bring him over from Green Bay and a front office that gave him a contract extension. I am
20:40expecting him to continue to play and play pretty well for this Philadelphia Eagles team. Next one, a White J29. What are we missing on Jaylen Null? What
20:52possible reason could the Texans have for refusing to play him even when their wide receiver core is depleted and their offense is stagnant? Can he not block?
20:58Can he not get open? Is it better difference? Is he just another RP darling that we were higher on that we're higher on than the NFL? Who is
21:04wrong here? Us or them? Well, um I'm going to go ahead and say they're making a mistake by not playing Jaylen Null.
21:11Again, to go back to the question we talked about earlier, is there a uh I is there something about Null that we don't
21:18know? I I'm not 100% sure. Now, he did run a route on 67% of the drop backs this last week. Um you know, had a
21:26couple plays that maybe he could have made that just weren't there. The Bengals defense also played really well in that game. So, he did get a playing
21:33time bump in week two. the ball just didn't always go his way. Like I definitely think I see Jaylen Null get
21:38open and he makes plays when he gets opportunities for this team. They pretty clearly have him pigeon holed as a slot
21:44only option. I don't agree with that. I think he could play outside. Him and Kahan Booty are literally the same size
21:51on their listed uh weights and heights on the on the Texans depth chart and the whole deal. So, I'm confused on this
21:58one. Maybe there's more that we don't know, but just from what I've seen on film of Jaylen Null, I think they're
22:03making a mistake by not playing him more. Number 13, Dylan Cam 813. Is the dream of Cyrus Allen dead with Jaylen
22:10Royals and Taekwon Thornton getting significant play over him Sunday night?
22:13Guys, I love Cyrus Allen. He is a round five rookie. He is purely like a deep sleeper type. That's who he is. Let's keep the
22:24expectations level. He also missed a good chunk of time in camp with an injury. That's always going to set a rookie back, especially in an offense
22:32that pretty much never gifts their rookies early opportunity for for this team. Like, by the way, Jaylen Royals, I mean, he kind of played like got a
22:40touchdown, whatever. Taekquin Thornton was always going to play over Cyrus Allen because they don't play the same role. Like, Taekquin Thornton is a
22:46vertical lid lifting mostly perimeter receiver for this team.
22:52Cyrus Allen, you know, probably needs like Xavier Worthy to flop or move on or Rasheed Rice to flop or move on for him
22:58to really become a starter. So, this this year it's all about like let's keep an eye on Cyrus Allen, see if he has
23:04some moments and then we talk about him maybe as a starter for this team in 2027, unless there are injuries this
23:10year that he can earn himself more opportunities. So, like that's the reality of a guy that's a fifth round rookie. Not no one is Puka. They just
23:18come in right away and they're a starter as a fifth round rookie. So, like that's where we're at with Cyrus Allen. I would
23:23try to just keep the expectations uh in check. Someone to just like dynasty standpoint, keep on the end of your bench and see what happens. I know he
23:30got a lot of hype in training camp and the algorithm was feeding you Cyrus Allen stuff every day and I was having
23:34fun with that, but at no point was he expected to become like the number one receiver on the Chiefs, but he's a skill
23:39set they need. And maybe we see more from him in the back half of his rookie season. Literally, let me just put it to
23:45you this way. There's there's 0% of rookies the dream is dead after two weeks. Certainly day three guys as well.
23:52Okay, next one. Austin Pillo says, "Are you concerned about Jameson Williams role in the Lions offense? It seems like he may be an afterthought with Leaporta
24:00healthy." I mean, I think this is the Jameson Williams story. He is definitely not an afterthought, but he's never going to be a highly consistently
24:10targeted player because that's not his skill set. Um the production has always been up and down with Jameson Williams and like Sam Leaporta dominates targets
24:19for sure and obviously like this always will revolve around Aman Ross Brown who's an elite player and should never have anything taken off his plate. Now
24:26there are definitely some growing splits about when Leaporta is on and off the field for Jameson Williams which makes sense because if you remove Jameson
24:33Williams I bet you'd see Sam Leaporta's targets go up as well. You know that's yeah Jameson had that one big game on
24:41Thanksgiving when St. Brown got hurt.
24:44Like that's how it goes. Like they don't usually the targets get more concentrated when you remove guys from injuries. It's not like oh Tom Kennedy
24:50is going to come in here and you know get a bunch of playing time or anything like that. So that's part of it. And
24:54like I don't care how much hype Jameson Williams gets from like his truest believers. I think he gets way too much
25:00hate from his truest haters by the way too. Like I'm kind of a centrist on Jameson Williams. I don't care how much
25:05hype he gets from his true believers or what the team like blows smoke in the offseason. Jameus Williams is is a
25:10really good player, but he's a volatile player. That's just always always where he's going to be. He's not an elite route runner. He's not an elite
25:17technician. He's one of the fastest players in the NFL who can make awesome big plays, but not somebody that you can
25:22count on to like spit the ball out and be a metronome consistent player. Um, could he get to that point? Maybe, but
25:30it hasn't to this point. And like it's three straight years of James Williams being an awesome player, but being the player that he is. So, um I'm not
25:37concerned about his role because this is the role I expected him to play and he'll probably finish the season around his ADP where he was drafted in fantasy.
25:46Uh so, it's just going to be a rocky journey to get to that and I don't know why anyone would think that uh it
25:51wouldn't be because that's again who James Williams is. All right, next one comes in from Lil Jordan. How concerned are we with McLuren and the situation in
26:00Washington? Uh, I will admit I'm a little bit concerned about McLuren and the situation in Washington. One, obviously Jaden Daniels being hurt,
26:08missing time. That's gonna sting. Mario has been uh an effective player for them and been a solid backup, but I think
26:15you'd still rather have you'd still rather have Jaden Daniels out there.
26:19Okay, that's for sure. The other problem for Washington, and this is something that, you know, James and I talked about on the show, there's a video on this on
26:26the YouTube channel. When Laramie Tons Tonsel went down and they signed Stefon Diggs, that just fundamentally changed the picture for Terry McLuren because
26:36Diggs is still very good. No signs of drop off from 2024 to 2025. Despite the fact there is a torn ACL in his two RP
26:44profiles so far this year, based on what I've seen from Stefon Diggs, there's no drop off from that. Once again, he is
26:50remaining a very, very, very, very good player. Um, I think there's a pretty even chance that Diggs is just the most
26:56productive receiver on the Commanders this year. So far, it's not even been close. 15 targets, nine catches, 102 yards, three touchdowns. Terry McLuren,
27:0413 targets, four catches, 64. Uh, a lot of that is because they're the type of targets that they get is very different.
27:11McLuren, especially once Diggs was signed, is going to be stuck in that Xheavy.
27:18It's less X and a little more dynamic than it certainly was in some previous offenses, but still primarily like the vertical press man coverage beater.
27:25That's going to lead to more volatility.
27:27And you're playing behind a bad offensive line with a quarterback who's going to be in some chaos now and now it's a backup quarterback. That's going
27:32to lead to some targets to Stefon Digs who gets open at a really high level.
27:35And then the fact that Antonio Williams looks like a guy as well, that shaves more targets off from Terry McLuren. And
27:43I I would also say too, I think film-wise, Diggs looks better than McLuren right now. I mean, I think you could pretty say pretty much say
27:51that in 2025 their reception perception profiles, Diggs looked better than Terry then. I mean, Diggs has been a better player than Terry McLuren over the
27:58course of their NFL careers. And both these guys are similar age, like 32 years old for Seth Diggs, 31 for Terry
28:04McLuren. So, um, I would say right now Diggs is should be the odds on favorite as long as he can stay healthy to be the
28:12team's leading receiver. And I think Antonio Williams deserves more opportunities. So, that just makes it tough for Terry McLuren. I hate to say
28:18that because McLuren is one of my longtime favorites at the receiver position. Okay. Betto Tacos says, "How was the Patriots receivers/play calling?
28:28How did it change after the AJ Brown departure?" it actually changed a pretty decent bit. And one of the guys who got
28:36a real change in his role was Romeo Dobs. Uh Romeo Dobs earned a route on 74% of the drawbacks in week two. Um and
28:44he was outside on 91% of his snaps.
28:49I think it made no sense that Dobs was like in this slot movearound role and kind of replacing Diggs for New England
28:56because he had his best year I guess like the best best last year and a half of his career playing as an ex outside
29:02on ball player for the Green Bay Packers. Like that's what you want Dobs doing. That's what he was doing in week
29:07two. Averaged 4.8 yards per route run.
29:09Uh had a big explosive play. Had another one where it hit his hands but like Drake may put it behind him. Is that a
29:15drop? Whatever. You guys can decide that based on how you chart it. Um, I might not chart it as a drop. I actually
29:20haven't watched the film back of that game, but watching the game live on Sunday, I thought you saw a better, more
29:25confident, like decisive uh Romeo Dobs.
29:28So, like the usage for him. Pop Douglas was still the slot receiver and Matt.
29:33Collins was the movement Z. He actually ran the most routes on the team.
29:39I don't know, they love Matt. Collins and that like just is what it is. So, the only difference really was that Kyle
29:44Williams played a little bit more. uh had a couple of nice moments, but he's mostly a reserve outside receiver. And then Romeo Dobs is the lead outside
29:51receiver for the team. And it's definitely not a great receiver core, but that's at least the right role for Romeo Dobs as opposed to what we saw
29:58when AJ Brown was playing. All right, two nonfoot questions.
30:05Got one from Kingboy. What do you snack on while grinding the tape? Uh nothing.
30:11You guys don't want to talk about like my meal plans. Okay. Um, right now what I'm going to do as soon as I finish
30:15recording this is I'm going to eat my yogurt. Probably the most like fun thing I eat all day is I eat a serving of fia
30:24yogurt 0%.
30:27With Elizabeth, a truly Elizabeth or simply Elizabeth, whatever. Elizabeth, she's the goat. The granola on the top.
30:34The chocolate chip cookie granola from Elizabeth is the stone cold best in the entire world. Um, I don't eat anything while I'm working because I don't like
30:44to eat at my desk. It makes me feel dead inside. Uh, so not really like that's my snack during the day. And then also I'll
30:52eat some random meat and like sweet potatoes as a snack, but never at the desk, never while I'm working. Um, I'm
30:57not a fun snacker, okay? I'm just I'm just not. Is what it is. Okay. Uh, and then the last one here, I h I have to
31:04address this because we got into it in Discord. Um, you know, there's been I I like fish 58 keeps asking me about
31:12what like what appliance or whatever.
31:15Uh, what device if I had if I lost my finger, I got to replace it with something, what would I replace it with?
31:20And you guys keep coming up with suggestions about, okay, I've seen it in the comments. I've seen it in the Discord. Different items like a
31:28screwdriver.
31:30Uh, someone in Discord said a change with a lightsaber. You guys are thinking about this all wrong. Number one, you're never getting on an airplane again. Even
31:39if it's a screwdriver, okay? You are not getting through TSA with the freaking screwdriver finger. That's never happening. I like to travel. I have to
31:45travel for work. That's a no-go. So, what like there's no useful device to put on your finger and substitute it like cuz a screwdriver, you're you're
31:54not getting on air airplane. Lightsaber, you're definitely not getting on an airplane. By the way, you're going to the bathroom, you make one wrong move,
32:00you're going to regret having that lightsaber on your finger. Let's just leave it at that. Um, otherwise I don't really use a pen that often.
32:07A remote. I've got I have three TVs in the office for football season. Which one of the remotes is on the F? Makes no
32:13sense. My phone. No, I want my phone away from me more often. Um, yeah. I don't know. I don't think there's a good
32:19answer to this. People have come up with answers. Yeah, the lightsaber. That'd be sick. What am I using a lightsaber for?
32:25Probably just like it's a hazard. I don't know. You got to consider all the variables when you're asking questions like this. Otherwise, you're not not
32:31totally locked in. I like fish. You as some good crazy questions in the Discord. I appreciate you bringing it.
32:37Love it. Thank you for subscribing.
32:39Thank you for being a member, but you're not thinking about this the right way. Got to get on an airplane and got
32:46to be taking, you know, got to be careful when you're going to the bathroom taking your pants off. Let's just leave it at that. Okay, on that
32:51note, for sure that is going to do it for the September edition of the mailbag. If you've made it so far
32:56through this video, please subscribe to the channel, like this video, leave us a comment. We really appreciate you guys.

33:20So many good things on the website right now. weekly charting notebooks from me, the charting tracker as well to keep up
33:26with what I'm doing in season. And I got a fresh Dynasty rankings update coming up. Yeah, that's right. A dynasty rankings update is coming up. And there
33:33are some changes.
33:35Let's just leave it at that. There's some changes I need to make to those things. I've been looking at them lately. Uh there's a few spots uh I will
33:40be making some updates to here in short order. Okay, that's going to do it for the September mailbag. We'll have one in
33:47October as well. So, make sure you join the Discord so you can get your question in. Until then, I'll catch you next
33:52time.
