Player insights

33

Aaron Jones

NegativeUsage36:40

Aaron Jones is splitting time with Jordan Mason, and there are concerns regarding his durability after 150 touches, making him a risky late-round selection.

Insight page

Antonio Williams

NegativeDepth Chart68:43

Antonio Williams is falling down the Commanders' depth chart, playing behind Traylon Burks, Luke McCaffrey, Diami Brown, Van Jefferson, and Jalen Lane, which signals he is unlikely to earn significant snaps.

Insight page

Caleb Douglas

PositiveBreakout65:36

Caleb Douglas is a near full-time player for the Dolphins, staying on the field for every snap alongside Malik Willis. Despite minor rookie mistakes, he is the preferred target over Malik Washington for fantasy drafters.

Insight page

Cam Akers

PositiveRole39:55

Matt Harmon is becoming more optimistic about Cam Akers, noting he looked healthy and explosive in preseason action despite his previous major injury, and that his rotation usage was likely just preseason caution.

Insight page

Cam Ward

NegativeProjection25:30

Cam Ward struggled significantly in his preseason debut, exhibiting poor mechanics, inaccuracy on underneath throws, and a tendency to retreat into negative plays, including a near-fumble. These issues mirror his college struggles, and the Titans' offensive rotation further complicates his fantasy outlook.

Insight page

D.J. Moore

PositiveUsage47:38

Matt Harmon is buying DJ Moore, noting that the Bills are using him correctly in space and that he is a clear WR1 in an offense that may pass more under Joe Brady, despite a minor injury scare.

Insight page

De'Zhaun Stribling

PositiveBreakout21:59

Deshaun Stribbling is emerging as a major sleeper, showing versatility in the slot and out wide with manufactured touches and downfield ability. Josh Norris has moved him up to WR40, and there is a potential path for him to lead the 49ers in WR scoring.

Insight page
PositiveValue70:15

Deshaun Stripling should be drafted ahead of Makai Lemon, as Stripling is showing flashes while Lemon has seen zero snaps.

Insight page

Denzel Boston

PositiveBreakout58:57

Denzel Boston is showing the exact traits expected of him as a prospect, including winning curls beyond the sticks with proper hand use. He is a strong dynasty move, especially given the potential for Jerry Judy to be traded.

Insight page

Devin Singletary

PositiveUsage39:33

Matt Harmon highlights Devin Singletary's 30-yard screen pass reception where he broke tackles, suggesting he remains the primary threat in the Giants' backfield over Tyrone Tracy.

Insight page

Drake London

NegativeProjection35:21

Drake London's fantasy outlook is dampened by concerns over the Falcons' overall offensive efficiency and the quarterback play of Tua Tagovailoa, leading to questions about his value at his current ADP.

Insight page

Eli Stowers

NegativeBust69:36

Eli Stowers is struggling significantly with blocking and has not shown progress in training camp. He is a candidate to play zero snaps this season and may require a position change.

Insight page

Fernando Mendoza

PositiveProjection16:39

Fernando Mendoza looked sharp in his preseason debut, demonstrating the ability to rip passes outside the numbers and execute full-field progressions in the Kubiak offense. Despite the Raiders' public commitment to Kirk Cousins, Mendoza appears ready to play immediately.

Insight page

Harold Fannin

PositiveValue59:54

Harold Fannin is ranked comfortably last among his tight end peer group (including Pitts, Sam Laporta, and Tucker Kraft) due to the Browns' poor offensive outlook and the emergence of Casey Conception as a target competitor.

Insight page

Isaac TeSlaa

NegativeBust74:51

Isaac Tesla has failed to take a second-year leap, highlighted by a drop that led to an interception. His ADP should be adjusted downward as he is not currently securing the WR3 role for the Lions.

Insight page

Isaiah Likely

NegativeUsage40:44

Matt Harmon is fading Isaiah Likely due to low snap counts (6 snaps) and heavy competition from other tight ends like Theo Johnson, Chris Manhertz, and Patrick Ricard, making him a risky fantasy asset.

Insight page

Jahan Dotson

PositiveUsage33:28

Jahan Dotson was utilized in two-wide receiver sets alongside Drake London, which is a positive development for his role in the Falcons' offense.

Insight page

Jalen McMillan

PositiveBreakout45:39

Matt Harmon and Hayden Winks are high on Jalen McMillan, noting his increased slot usage and potential for a breakout season similar to Drake London, leading to a move up to 29th overall in rankings.

Insight page

Jayden Reed

PositiveUsage51:48

Matt Harmon and Hayden Winks suggest that the Packers' shift toward a faster, up-tempo offense will provide enough volume for Jayden Reed to remain a valuable fantasy asset despite a three-wide receiver rotation.

Insight page

Jeremiyah Love

PositiveUsage5:42

Jeremiah Love dominated the Cardinals' backfield usage, out-snapping Tyler Allgeier 16 to 6 and playing eight snaps on each of the first two drives. Despite the team's poor overall offensive projections, his performance and role suggest he is a strong candidate for a second-round draft pick, provided his ankle injury is minor.

Insight page
NegativeInjury6:52

Jeremiah Love suffered an ankle injury on the final rep of his preseason appearance. While Mike LaFleur described it as a sore ankle, the lack of transparency regarding injury severity in the preseason creates significant risk for his draft stock if he misses extended time.

Insight page

Jonah Coleman

NegativeUsage27:16

Jonah Coleman showed patience and strength in his debut, but remains in a crowded backfield rotation with R.J. Harvey and fullback Adam Prentice. He is best viewed as a stash for a potential J.K. Dobbins injury rather than a standalone starter.

Insight page

Jonathon Brooks

NegativeValue44:36

Matt Harmon notes that Jonathon Brooks' ADP is rising due to Chuba Hubbard's hamstring injury, and while Brooks looked fine in his limited preseason reps, he is currently ranked around RB30.

Insight page

Jordan Mason

PositiveValue36:40

Jordan Mason is being drafted as the 117th overall player and is viewed as a superior fit for the Vikings' outside zone scheme compared to Aaron Jones, with potential to eventually separate as the lead back.

Insight page
PositiveProjection38:11

Matt Harmon projects Jordan Mason will likely outscore his backfield competition by the end of the season, noting that if he secures 8-9 rushing touchdowns, he will be a fantasy-relevant asset.

Insight page

Kyle Pitts

NegativeProjection33:43

Despite looking more explosive and fundamentally improved, Kyle Pitts is a risky fantasy asset because the Falcons offense may be among the league's worst, making it difficult for three pass-catchers to produce simultaneously.

Insight page

Malachi Fields

PositiveBreakout42:08

Matt Harmon notes Malachi Fields' impressive touchdown catch and his usage as a pseudo-tight end, suggesting he could push to be the second-most targeted player on the team.

Insight page

Marvin Harrison Jr.

NegativeUsage10:31

Marvin Harrison Jr. showed promise in the Cardinals' passing game, scoring a touchdown on a crossing route against tight coverage and demonstrating downfield usage in the slot. He was utilized in a variety of alignments, including a slot fade that drew a pass interference penalty.

Insight page

Matthew Golden

PositiveSleeper51:48

Matt Harmon recommends drafting Matthew Golden as a late-round sleeper, noting his involvement in two-wide receiver sets and the overall potential for increased passing volume in the Packers' offense.

Insight page

Mike Washington Jr.

PositiveSleeper21:37

Mike Washington Jr. is highlighted as a top-tier handcuff, ranking behind only Tank Bigsby and Marshawn Lloyd. His size, athleticism, and ability to create yards after contact make him a high-upside stash; if he were to take over the lead role, he would be a top-15 weekly fantasy running back.

Insight page

Tony Pollard

NegativeUsage19:55

Tony Pollard is splitting snaps and opportunities with Tajay Spears in a rotation, which is a significant departure from expectations; he played nine snaps with five carries in the first 22 plays, casting doubt on his value as an 82nd overall pick.

Insight page

Tyrone Tracy

NegativeUsage38:45

Matt Harmon notes Tyrone Tracy struggled in pass protection, allowing a blitzing defender to hit the quarterback, which may hinder his ability to challenge Devin Singletary for a larger role.

Insight page

Wan'Dale Robinson

NegativeUsage32:59

Wandale Robinson is being utilized exclusively in the slot within the Titans' 11-personnel rotation, according to Hayden Winks.

0:00Big show for you here today. It is a massive preseason Week 1 recap with both Josh Norris and Hayden Winks joining me.
0:07We go game by game and give you the things you need to know from each contest in order to really readjust
0:13your fantasy rankings, crush your drafts at the end of the month, the things that actually matter here.
0:18Okay? Honestly, there's some games where it's just...eh...not a lot.
0:21Not a lot to say. So we'll see about that.
0:24But tons of other good information in this game.
0:26Some real needle movers across the board. All that more coming up on today's show.
0:30Let's get into it. What's going on everyone? I'm Matt Harmon.
0:33Welcome to the Yahoo Fantasy Forecast and it is a hell of a day to talk ball because for the first time
0:40in months, we actually have some sort of real football to recap and to talk about and go through because preseason Week
0:461 is officially in the books and joining me today to talk about it is our guys Hayden Winks and Josh Norris.
0:52Hayden, I'm going to start with you, pal, because you've been doing real work.
0:56You've been writing words on the website. I don't know what Josh has been doing the last, you know, 48, 72 hours,
1:02whatever, but you have been doing some real work, pal.
1:05So you've got some takes to get off here.
1:08Got lots of takes. I did a lot of it after, you know, the kid goes to bed and there's nothing else
1:14to do on a Saturday night when we got actual ball.
1:17So I got run blocking takes for the folks.
1:20Oh, that's a lot to compete with Josh run blocking takes.
1:23Yeah, I went to a zoo on Saturday. So, you know, I saw a giraffe running around in the Africa section of this, you know, pseudo safari.
1:30And I enjoyed that a lot more than watching some of these guys in preseason football.
1:35So I can't wait to go through all this.
1:37There's, you know, 16 games to hit on. Like you said, Matt, it's months and months of repeating the same stats over and over.
1:44And now we get more information to read into way too much, way too much.
1:49That is exactly what we're going to do here today.
1:51Yeah. I spent my Saturday night with my entire family at a minor league baseball game.
1:56And that was much more clean than what I watched on some of this preseason film.
2:00Always a good reminder of what the NFL preseason is good, bad and the ugly.
2:05But we're going to try to sort through all of that and the things that actually mattered and things that you can
2:11take away for your fantasy football drafts here in week one in the preseason.
2:15But before we get to that, a little bit of exciting news for the people out there for both Bills fans and
2:21members of the Boone Brigade in the Buffalo area.
2:24Yahoo Fantasy Draft Weekend presented by Verse is coming to Dick's House of Sport in the Buffalo area on Saturday, August 29th, 3 to 7 p.m.
2:31I'm going to be there. The aforementioned Justin Boone is going to be there.
2:35Josh Norris is going to be there for a special live edition of the Yahoo Fantasy Forecast.
2:40We're going to break down everything you need to know before your fantasy draft, answer your questions during a live Q&A, and
2:46we're going to be giving away tons of prizes throughout the day.
2:49So pretty exciting stuff there. If you're ready for your draft, you're trying to get ready for it.
2:55This is the place to be. Bring your league mates, your friends.
2:58Come hang out with us. We're going to see you in Amherst, New York on Saturday, August 29th at 3 p.m.
3:04If you live anywhere near there and you listen to this show, you watch this show and you don't come, I'm going
3:10to take it as a personal insult. Josh will definitely take it as a personal insult since this is his first year with Yahoo as well.
3:17So please don't break our hearts. Come hang out with us at Dick's House of Sports.
3:22Okay, first game up. We're going to talk about here.
3:25Cardinals 27, Raiders 14. This one leads off the show.
3:28We're going to kind of go in descending order of things that may have actually mattered to stuff.
3:33We learned nothing in terms of the games here.
3:35I think we learned a lot from this preseason contest here.
3:38Let's start on the Cardinals side. Hayden, big story in this one.
3:42Jeremiah loves performance and injury coming out of this game.
3:45So good and bad news with him. I thought one, the good news was the role.
3:49He out snapped Tyler Algier 16 to 6. He was out there for like eight snaps on the first drive, eight snaps
3:55a second drive, and then Algier was mixing in just a little bit.
3:59I did not know if that was for sure going to be the case right away.
4:04Now I feel confident that will be the case earlier on.
4:07So I would draft him definitely in the second round at this point, assuming his ankle checks out.
4:12And that's the concern on the very last rep of his when we get into the reason why he's playing so many snaps is like beyond me.
4:20They lose Chase Besantis, their second round pick for the season in the third quarter of a game.
4:25That's also ridiculous to me. So as long as Jeremiah loves ankle checks out, I feel even better about him as a
4:31fantasy asset going into his rookie year. This was idiotic usage by the Arizona Cardinals.
4:35I mean, it really is that simple that that's the statement here.
4:39How do you take a running back that early in the draft and then really in his first preseason action?
4:44He gets 14 touches and 24 snaps in the first half.
4:47What are we doing? Like this is already a player that you should know exactly how you're going to use.
4:53And so when you remove Jacob Brissett and other starters, why not remove Jeremiah Love?
4:57I understand that James Conner and Trey Benson are out with injuries, but this is pointless.
5:02And I understand you probably want to get a two minute drill with him.
5:06But that last hit, I understand that Mike LaFleur has said, well, he has a sore ankle.
5:11He showed up with it and we're already going to keep him out for the next week.
5:15But Matt, we know that sometimes these ankle injuries aren't exactly reported as such an aspect immediately.
5:20So this is on my radar. I really hope, really hope it is just a minor ankle sprain because if anything else
5:26happens and the floor has already been cagey about week one, then this changes the entire landscape of where to draft Jeremiah Love if he misses extended time.
5:34Yeah, and teams have zero incentive to be truthful with injuries generally and even less incentive to be truthful with injuries in the preseason.
5:41So, yeah, I don't think we're going to get a ton of clear like what is this injury?
5:46Anything like that? It definitely clouds this. I saw Robert Mays and some other Cardinals reporters as well kind of saying that
5:52Mike LaFleur had thought that and the whole coaches have a thought that there was, you know, some idea that rookie running
5:59backs, they don't have the speed of the game quite down early on in the season.
6:03And that's why they had two other weeks to do that.
6:06I know they had two other weeks to do that, man.
6:09It just seems so reckless at the time, which is unfortunate because, I mean, when he was out there, he looked great, right?
6:16Awesome. I'm with you, Hayden, that this was one of those performances where I'm sitting here saying like, yeah, maybe I need
6:22to move him up from, you know, kind of just a few spots in the overall rankings, especially because I am pretty
6:28weirdly optimistic about what this Cardinals offense can be.
6:31And I think we've seen some of like the good of that in the preseason, like in the passing game, Marvin Harrison Jr.
6:37runs a crossing route into the end zone, scores a touchdown on a tight coverage look.
6:42You know, he was in the slot a little bit getting some downfield usage.
6:46Like I like the way the receivers rolled out.
6:49But yeah, the Jeremiah Love injury and guard Chase Besantis that you mentioned, Hayden, that just kind of clouds what could be an optimistic picture right now.
6:56Yeah. Yeah. Marvin Harrison, obviously the touchdown is what went viral, but I appreciated that he had that slot fade drew deep as a pass interference for him.
7:04And then Michael Wilson had an awesome out route as well.
7:07I'm agreeing with you guys in that like the skill group is way too good to be projected for the fewest points in the league.
7:14I would not be surprised if the Cardinals are better than that.
7:18Obviously, the offensive line quarterback play matters just as much as the skill guys, if not, definitely more than that.
7:23But there's a lot of good football players on this team, especially Jeremiah Love.
7:27I thought he immediately looked like one of the best running backs in the league.
7:32The comparison I always made with him was a bigger Reggie Bush, and he even looked bigger on the NFL field surrounded
7:38by teammates than I was expecting than peers. And he was already showing off the spins, the hurdles, all that type of
7:44stuff to create extra yards at his own. Hey, I want to ask you this, because right now, Jeremiah Love is going
7:5026th overall on Yahoo over the last few days.
7:53And we know, and we've talked about all summer long, the Cardinals are projected for the fewest amount of points in the NFL this season.
8:00I'm not saying they even have to get like to 20th in projected points.
8:04What they need to escape is being bottom five, because that's how it kind of limits you in terms of having just one or two fancy assets.
8:12So if you're saying he is locked into round two now, are you then drafting him over A.J.
8:17Brown, Trey McBride, George Pickens, Nico Collins? Like, cut me off when I've hit someone that you're going to take ahead of Jeremiah Love still.
8:24I like him over all of those receivers. It's obviously assuming that the ankle does check out.
8:29And I think I was really going back and forth, him and Ashton Gentry.
8:33Like, really, which one do I actually want more?
8:35And we're going to get to him. But, like, I like Jeremiah Love's tape a lot more than Ashton Gentry's.
8:41I like him as a prospect more. I'm not that convinced that the Raiders situation is that much better than the Cardinals situation.
8:47So I think that's a real debate, and those guys aren't being drafted next to each other at all.
8:53I would definitely take him ahead of Trey McBride.
8:55I would take him ahead of A.J. Brown. And, I mean, I already have him ranked ahead of A.J.
9:01Brown, do I, with Jeremiah Love. But, yeah, I mean, some of these guys, like, Nico Collins is a tough one for me because I like Nico Collins.
9:09But I think, again, if the ankle checks out, I'm with you, Hayden, that I'm pushing Love up the rankings.
9:14And just last note on the receivers here before we move off of this offense, because I've already spent way too much time talking about the Cardinals.
9:22I did just give a shout-out to Stan Boston, one of my Sicko subscribers in Discord, charted the alignment for the receivers in this game.
9:29So, you know, really spreading the gospel here of what matters at the wide receiver position.
9:33He had Marv at a 69% rate of snaps on the ball, which is well below his career rate so far.
9:39And I think you just do see some of the dynamism that LaFleur is going to bring to this offense.
9:45Let's just hope this was a rookie mistake for first-year head coach Mike LaFleur with this Jeremiah Love thing, and we can move forward and move beyond it.
9:53Let's talk Raiders here because a lot of other interesting things to take away from this team as well, especially Josh.
9:59I mean, this is our first look at Kubiak, Fernando Mendoza, and I would say Mendoza, you know, a lot of other
10:05things to take away here from the Raiders, but first and foremost, I mean, he looked good out there, especially ripping the
10:11ball over the middle of the field. Yeah, looks super sharp.
10:15And what we always knew about Fernando Mendoza at Indiana was these big outside patterns along the sideline, outside the numbers.
10:20He just rips it with ease. He's like very Sam Darnold-ish, excuse me, Sam Bradford-ish with those.
10:25That's the comparison I keep coming back to, albeit Mendoza's a bit more mobile.
10:29But what I love the most was, you know, he took a first down sack once they got into the red zone,
10:35and that made it about second and goal from the 12-yard line.
10:39And he went full field progression, one, two, three, to this backside return to Ian Thomas to set them up then at
10:45the six-yard line for a third and goal. And then he fires it in there to our guy Jack Besch for the
10:51touchdown in like this really, really tight window. And so it shows you that, hey, even when a negative play can happen
10:58on first down, that we're already seeing a comfort level in a Kubiak offense to go first, second, third, full field read.
11:04And I guess the question coming out of this, and we're going to get two more weeks of it, is all offseason,
11:10all of the Raiders brass from Tom Brady to Spytek to whoever else is saying, well, Kirk Cousins is going to start
11:16for a very long time, and we don't need Fernando Mendoza.
11:19Hayden, where are you at? Do you think that's going to change at all from here?
11:24I mean, objectively, Fernando Mendoza is ready to go like right away.
11:27Like I thought that he did awesome going through his reads.
11:30I thought that they missed a touchdown opportunity. That was not his fault, and that was a really good readout by him.
11:37That out route that he talked about to Jack Besch was really clean.
11:40He was not playing much under center in college, and then he did that in his preseason debut.
11:45I thought he handled it well. I thought Kirk Cousins also played pretty well as well.
11:50The other big note that I saw with the Raiders is just a diversity in the personnel groupings.
11:55Their first drive is a long drive. They had 11, 12, 21, and 22 personnel.
11:59There was under center. There was motion. There was play action reps.
12:03This looked like a complicated offense, and the fact that Fernando Mendoza right away was able to execute it, I think it's
12:09like, what are we wasting our time for? Kirk Cousins, I think that he would do just fine in this offense as
12:15well, but I think he's ready to go right now.
12:18The veteran's going to start half the season stuff.
12:21Almost always you can bet against that. That's an offseason thing.
12:24That's what we talk about when there aren't real games happening.
12:27I think there's a chance that Kirk starts week one.
12:30I'd probably say it's still the favorite of the outcomes here, but I think we see Mendoza sooner than later.
12:35Any notes on just some of the role players on this Raiders squad?
12:39Because I think we saw a lot. I'm not sure that's a ton of guys that are going to help us in
12:45fantasy football this year, but kind of brings the whole offense together around two players that we are drafting very highly in Ashton Gentile and Brock Bowers.
12:53Either you guys have notes on just some of the reserve players here.
12:57I'll add something on Mike Washington Jr. Like we on our show always talk about the best handcuffs in fantasy football.
13:03I would rank it Tank Bigsby, Marshawn Lynch, excuse me, Marshawn Lloyd, and then Mike Washington Jr.
13:07as the third best handcuff in all of fantasy football right now.
13:11And if you give him a crease, if you give him a lane, if you give him some space, he is going to rip long runs.
13:18He is so big and so athletic and how they got him to the second level, really the third level on that
13:24long run that he had where 29, a filling defensive back, like dives at his ankles.
13:29He hurdles that and then attacks 36 through contact, attempted upper body tackle, and then runs an extra 30 yards.
13:35Mike Washington Jr. is so much fun and who knows how much he's going to see the field.
13:40But if ever Ashton Gentile goes down, Mike Washington Jr.
13:42is going to be a top 15 ranked running back every single week.
13:46Yeah, I'm not sure if they got him to the third level or if he just got himself to the third level.
13:52I thought that was one of the most impressive runs that we'll see of the entire season.
13:57He was absolutely flying in the field and top of the broken tackles.
14:01I don't think that Ashton Gentile would be able to run like that.
14:05Obviously, there's a long way to go for Mike Washington to carve into that.
14:09But that was like freakazoid athlete stuff from him.
14:11My other notes real quick, Matt. Trey Tucker played the first wide receiver or one wide receiver set snap ahead of Jalen Naylor.
14:18I thought that was kind of interesting. And then Jack Besh, he was a slot wide receiver in three wide receiver sets.
14:24Michael Mayer scores a touchdown. So like that Tucker Naylor-Besch-Mayer combination.
14:27I think one guy's got a chance to emerge from that group in the deepest of leagues.
14:32But really, it's just going to be Brock Bowers who's out there for like, I think, a half second.
14:37Ashton Gentile. And I agree with Josh. I'm going to keep moving up Mike Washington.
14:41Yeah, that's definitely a good call on Mike Washington.
14:44I'll just say for the Jack Besh bros out there, I thought he looked good.
14:48I thought they had the right role for him, which obviously the previous staff did not.
14:53So had good catches from both quarterbacks as well.
14:55So yeah, I did think it was a nice.
14:58It's just one of those things, too, when you're looking at a new staff.
15:02Do they know what they're doing with their players?
15:04I think it was very early, like very apparent very early on that the last Raiders staff did not.
15:10With, you know, not just Besh, but kind of the entire roster.
15:13Again, it's one preseason game. Don't want to overreact.
15:16But I'm a Kubiak fan. And I think they kind of got the right roles for a lot of these guys.
15:22But yeah, probably not a massive hit in fantasy with the ancillary players for the Las Vegas Raiders.
15:27But let's move to the next game here. Titans 19, 49ers 13.
15:30Let's start on the Tennessee Titans side. And Hayden, I gather from the social media streets, you weren't a big fan of
15:36what you saw from the 2025 number one overall pick in this preseason game.
15:40Yeah, I see that the looked awful quote graphic made it onto X.
15:44Well, let's just be honest. He did look really awful.
15:47Didn't look good. There was a really bad retreating intentional grounding that was nearly a fumble.
15:51And this is exactly what would happen like once every week last year.
15:55There were so many fumbles and near fumbles. And the fact that like immediately we had that, that was concerning to me.
16:01I thought he missed a couple underneath throws with just like really poor accuracy.
16:05And it was also the loose mechanics. It wasn't like, oh, that was perfect in rhythm.
16:10And he just missed it. It was like, no, like his front foot is flying all over the place.
16:15They were doing a lot of the RPO play action stuff where it's trickier footwork, but it did not look a little clean after the game.
16:23Even Robert Sala had to say that like this, the mechanics, he just looked really rushed out there.
16:28So that's not what I like to see because those are the two negatives that you saw in Cam Ward's game the previous season.
16:34And then I think for fantasy purposes, if what happened in this game carries over to the regular season at all, we're
16:41in big trouble with all these guys. There was a full-blown rotation.
16:44We can get into that in a second. But it was a combination of, oh no, Cam Ward looks exactly how he
16:50did as a rookie, which is almost like the worst starting quarterback in the league.
16:55Plus now we might have a rotation. Like how exactly are we going to get there in fantasy?
17:00Just quickly on that, you know, the 2024 season for Titans fans, they saw Will Levis have one like brain melting play every single week.
17:07And then when you watched Cam Ward at Miami, Hayden, I warned everyone, hey, you're going to see these again.
17:12And then it happened during his rookie season. And you would like to think going, he's played a lot of football, you
17:19know, and going into a second year too, that he wouldn't have one of these plays.
17:23And that play you're talking about, Hayden, it was a three levels concept to the left side.
17:28And instead of hitting any of it, he just then retreats to his own sideline.
17:32It's unbelievable. You can't do that at all. And then, as you said, there was RPO to the left, high throw to Wandale, just totally missed.
17:40Missed Cardinal Tate on a speed out as well.
17:42Didn't put on the body of Wandale on an RPO slant.
17:45And then missed Alec Aymanor on another slant. And nearly threw a pick on the next play.
17:50So the inaccuracy, like one thing that we talked about Cam Ward that we really liked was how quick his ball handling was.
17:57How he could get it out of his hand swiftly.
17:59But the inaccuracy popped here. And as much as we kind of gave credit to Brian Dayball for building an offense around
18:06Jackson Dart strengths last year, maybe we'll see more.
18:08And again, these are early reactions. But maybe the Cam Ward and Brian Dayball relationship isn't as good as the Jackson Dart
18:14and Brian Dayball one was last year. Yeah, I'm a Dayball skeptic.
18:18I think I'm a Cam Ward skeptic too. And so, you know, some of this is confirmation bias.
18:23But basically, nothing I saw in this game made me want to draft any Tennessee Titans players in fantasy football.
18:29Which I kind of already felt that way. I wasn't necessarily high on this offense overall.
18:33It's a... I don't know. To me, it's going to be very spread and shred.
18:37It's going to kind of lean into some of the worst instincts, really, for Cam Ward.
18:42I think there needs to be something that pushes him forward in his development.
18:46This is kind of just going to be that high wire act in general.
18:50And as we were talking about too, there was a rotation both at receiver and in the running back room.
18:56And by the way, this might also be the 31st ranked offensive line, 32nd ranked offensive line in the NFL.
19:01Yeah, it's just... To me, every now and again, there's a team that you can just kind of cross off.
19:07And to me, the Titans, some of these guys are just...
19:10They're going pretty aggressive relative to what I think this offense could look like.
19:14And just last point before I throw it to either of you guys to just close the loop here on the Titans.
19:20Hayden, you mentioned the rotation. I want to get your thoughts on that.
19:24Some of this is the stuff that's been reported from practice too.
19:27At least the unevenness of it all. This is a consistent drumbeat with just how this has gone for Cam Ward so far.
19:34Yeah. So to speak on the rotation at wide receiver, it was the same 11 personnel you'd expect.
19:39Calvin Ridley at X receiver. Cardinal Tate at Z.
19:41Wandale in the slot only. Wandale only in the slot.
19:44But then after Calvin Ridley kind of left, here comes Ellicke Ayuminor to the point that Cardinal Tate wasn't even on the field for all the snaps.
19:52And then Chimiri Dike played in the slot as well.
19:55It's like they were running five wide receivers in a rotation out there.
19:58Same thing with the tight end grouping with Bellinger and Gunnar Helms.
20:02That's really hard for Gunnar Helm to get home.
20:04And then even, I think maybe the most important for fantasy purposes, it was not like Tony Pollard, the clear-cut starter, Tyje Spears, a total afterthought.
20:12That was also a rotation. And stints about five plays on, five plays off for them.
20:16Spears had a really good run at one point.
20:19And then Pollard scored nearly untouched. So if this is just going to be a tryout season and it's a new scheme
20:25and all these guys are going to rotate, the offensive line stinks and Cam Ward as a boom-bust prospect is looking like the latter, I'm really nervous.
20:33And I would feel pretty comfortable walking away from zero exposure with all these Tennessee Titans.
20:37I do want to say just quickly, the Cam Ward stuff, I want to give him a little bit more time.
20:43I understand he's played a ton of football. I don't want to say that he is on the bust path at this point.
20:50Again, we barely played now. I kind of think maybe this year we have to consider it his rookie season.
20:55All over again, because they're reworking a whole bunch of stuff.
20:58Now the running back is the big conversation here.
21:01Like Tony Pollard going as the 82nd overall pick at the end of the seventh round right now on Yahoo, when he
21:07plays nine snaps and has five carries in the first 22.
21:10And then Tajay Spears, 13 snaps and four opportunities.
21:13Like that is the biggest change versus what people were expecting heading into this season.
21:17I've always been a Tajay Spears supporter and we saw it in this one.
21:21Like he creates yards on his own. He forces people to miss and phone boosts.
21:25And so maybe that's on me, Matt, for not being in tune with the reporting so far.
21:30But that was a shock when I went back and watched this because I that reporting was not on my timeline nearly
21:36enough that this was going to be a true 50-50 split.
21:40Yeah, that's definitely concerning. And again, especially within the context that we have questions about the overall offensive ecosystem here.
21:45One thing we don't have questions about on the other side of this game.
21:49I mean, Dazon Stribbling, when are we making this bust up for Canton, bro?
21:53I mean, this guy is the man. I'm kidding, of course.
21:56But Stribbling, according to Pro Football Focus, was in the slot on 14 plays, out wide on eight.
22:01I saw a lot of Z and big slot usage for him, which for me was very consistent with how I expected
22:08him to be used based on his reception, perception, prospect charting.
22:11I think maybe more importantly, guys, like it's tough to tell with like routes and separation.
22:15Like I'll never be charting routes from the preseason game.
22:18But I thought he looked comfortable out there and made a lot of catches away from his frame consistently, which is again,
22:24very, I know you guys studied him before the draft as well.
22:28That was again, very consistent with how I thought he would be used.
22:31So I'll just put it to you guys both this way.
22:35I'll let you go first, Josh. Like how high are we pushing Deshaun Stribbling up the board right now?
22:40So I had him prior to this as wide receiver 51.
22:43And that was for me right after names like Jacoby Myers and Jalen Coker ahead of Jane Higgins and Wondale Robinson and Rashid Shaheed.
22:50Like I want to push him even higher than that because there is a story you can tell that we look at
22:56the end of the season and Deshaun Stribbling is the number one scoring wide receiver on the San Francisco 49ers offense.
23:02And maybe two weeks ago, people would think you were insane for that.
23:06And Matt, I just love that. He looked like a legit NFL wide receiver and he was running from condensed splits.
23:12He was lining up outside inside. He got manufactured touches, quick patterns, downfield ones.
23:16So I don't know how much higher I can push him because there are some really good wide receiver names that have been producers in the past.
23:23But that's what I'm going to figure out this week is just how high I can suggest, hey, people draft Deshaun Stribbling right now.
23:30I got Stribbling as my wide receiver 40. I have him right next to Quinton Johnston and Carnell Tate.
23:35Let's go. I'm ready to go. I mean, the fact that he was like this productive is like one thing, but how
23:42he did it, I think really stood out to me.
23:45There's a quick out to start the game. He was wide open on the slant route, a really good route by him that they just didn't connect on.
23:52He had a jet sweep. He made a leaping grab at the sticks and then a whip route win for him.
23:58And then a sideline grab. This was my favorite moments.
24:01They were interviewing Trent Williams on the sideline, who for the entire drive was just talking about how awesome Deshaun Stribbling is
24:07and how smart he is, how tough he is, how fast he is, how much he's understanding the playbook.
24:13As he's literally talking about that, Stribbling goes up there and Moss is a guy on the sideline.
24:18So this is, I think, pretty textbook stuff for what a sleeper is supposed to look like early on.
24:23This has been the beat reporter talk of the town when we're talking about just the training camp performances as well.
24:29I think he might be the sleeper of 2026 and I want to be buying this.
24:34The 49ers always put up huge numbers and there's a lot of volatility with all the older guys around him.
24:39I think he's going to be in two wide receiver sets in week one.
24:43Yeah, I couldn't care less about names like Christian Kirk or Demarcus Robinson or anything like that anymore.
24:49I mean, there's just been such a clear drumbeat on Stribbling and, you know, I thought he was a good prospect.
24:54Okay, like I thought I had him ranked as a day two guy.
24:58So this was, of course, I wasn't sitting there saying he was going to be the 33rd overall pick.
25:04But to me, you know, not like I know the college production, red flag, all that type of stuff.
25:09But to me, it was a day two draft prospect and we drafted on day two and he's on a team that produces numbers.
25:16Like this, this looks like a guy that when I do my next rankings update, like I was already way ahead of the dynasty market on Stribbling.
25:23I'm going to probably have him as like pretty close to like a top 100 player right now at this point.
25:29Yeah, you know, it's easy to say that now after this preseason performance, but all three of us have been saying this for weeks.
25:36This is not new. Since Ricky. Yeah, right. Since Ricky Pearsall had to have surgery on his PCL.
25:41And to your point, Matt, I feel like some pre-draft opinions and we've repeated this a lot are anchoring to Sean Stribbling in the redraft market.
25:49And one that was probably wrong. I mean, I saw people saying you should shake Nick Singleton over to Sean Stribbling in dynasty drafts this year.
25:56I mean, just lose it. By the way, Nick Singleton got blown up.
26:00Yes, protection in this game. So I think that's enough for that.
26:03And I don't think that this is an overreaction to what Stribbling is doing right now because he is a competitive blocker
26:09and he's ferocious and you don't get, you know, fancy points for blocking, but you stay on a Kyle Shanahan offense and on the field for blocking.
26:17Hey, just quickly, you say you have him at wide receiver 40.
26:20What's a shocking name that you have him ranked ahead of right now?
26:24I want to sleep on this as I look at my rankings before I say those names.
26:29Well, we have a show tomorrow. Everything he says is trying to get you.
26:33It's written in pencil. This is written in pencil.
26:35He's going to have it in pen tomorrow. Come on.
26:38Josh trying to get him on another quote graphic here.
26:41But no, I'll tell you what. I'll probably have him in that tier of where I have my wide receiver 40.
26:47So we are in alignment on the Stribbling thing as we have been for months.
26:51But we're going to take our first quick break.
26:54We come back. We will get into that right after this.
26:57All right, we're back. We're continuing to recap everything that matters from week one of the NFL preseason.
27:02Next game up here, Broncos 27, Falcons 7. Because I am such a positive, rosy, bright person, we're going to start on the positive side here.
27:09We're going to talk to Denver Broncos. Let's talk about rookie running back Jonah Coleman, boys, who I thought looked excellent in
27:16his debut, played a little bit with the starters.
27:18Josh, what did you see from Jonah Coleman? Hayden, you take this one because, I mean, to me, he looked exactly how he looked at Washington.
27:26I think it's notable that we can probably make the conclusion that if something happens or eventually does happen to J.K.
27:31Dobbins, you know, R.J. Harvey might not see the exact same usage that he got last year that made him, you know,
27:38a fantasy almost superstar for those handful of weeks.
27:40And if Jonah Coleman slips into, you know, that lead back role, then, you know, again, that's a big departure from what R.J.
27:47Harvey got last year and I think a big detriment of where he's being selected right now.
27:52Yeah, Coleman had two really nice runs, just really strong patience, spun off a defender, I think finishes hard.
27:57Those are like the type of things that were all up and down his college tape as well.
28:02Harvey did start ahead of him. Harvey was vultured by Adam Prentice, their fullback, who not only had a goal line touchdown,
28:08but also had like a third and one carry as well.
28:11So that's another way of how Sean Payton can get really annoying here.
28:15I really struggle with all this entire backfield. I pretty much don't draft R.J.
28:19Harvey at all. I haven't really been mixing in Jonah Coleman all that much.
28:23Maybe move him up ahead of a couple guys at this point in my rankings, but it's hard to get there.
28:29We're going to be in a huge rotation plus a fullback.
28:32Pat Bryant had, he was in the starting lineups.
28:35Corlin Sutton was still dunking on guys. Jalen Waddle wasn't even out there.
28:38You still have Evan Ingram. So there's a lot of mouths to feed in this, in this offense.
28:43I haven't really been paying attention to the backfield all that much.
28:47Yeah, I think the backfield just, it is tough from a fantasy draft perspective with Jonah Coleman because there is a chance
28:53that he's, you draft him and he is easily one of the first two guys that you cut, you know, because J.K.
28:59Dobbins goes out there and he handles like 18 plus touches in the first three weeks of the season and Jonah Coleman
29:06gets, you know, three carries or something like that any given week.
29:09The thing is though, if, you know, and I don't want to say when, but you know, if J.K.
29:14Dobbins is to get hurt, literally every fantasy show is going to be talking about like, you guys don't know this Jonah Coleman, but like, he's really good.
29:22And so we're going to tell you right now, as we've been telling you on this show, I mean, shoot, he was
29:28on this show talking about how good he was and, you know, in the little things of the running back position, this
29:35is a name that you at least need to know file away.
29:38And if you can stash on your bench for the inevitable, you know, J.K.
29:42Dobbins injury, if it comes to pass, like, yeah, I think Coleman looks the part, you know, the coaches like him and this is an offense.
29:49It's tough to figure out the distribution between the non-Jalen Waddle players, like Quentin Sutton reminds people in this game, like he
29:56is still a very good player, Pat Bryant, with the starters, you know, it's tough to figure out the distribution with all
30:02those guys, but I do want pieces of this Denver Broncos offense and therefore I do want exposure to the backfield in some way.
30:09Josh, just because we talked about Mike Washington, if let's say Gentie and Dobbins goes down, I think I would for sure
30:15be ranking Washington the highest out of Coleman and then slash Harvey.
30:18I think that Harvey and Coleman, I think those guys, I think that's, that would be a committee and I think that
30:25like someone like Mike Washington, Tank, Bigsby, like those guys, I think it'd be so far ahead of the backup that I
30:31would rather just, you know, play that insurance game rather than, you know, trying to get myself into a committee or trying
30:37to pretend that Jonah Coleman's going to steal J.K.
30:40Dobbins job, which I find pretty unrealistic. Yeah, and you know, Dylan Lowby's a little bit worse than R.J.
30:45Harvey is at his job, at least I believe so.
30:48So yeah, I think Mike Washington will have a bit more work.
30:51I think that actually does make a lot of it, a lot of sense when you put it that way.
30:57Let's go to the Falcons here, which wasn't great.
30:59Tua offers up some discouraging moments, but did land us a potentially season defining meme.
31:04So I would say that was probably the bright spot of what the Atlanta Falcons did on offense.
31:09But yeah, it's just so funny. If you guys haven't seen this yet, if you're listening to this show, you got to
31:15find the penics and point it to a meme if you haven't, I don't know.
31:19I mean, good for you if you haven't seen it.
31:22Is this not terrifying though? Like, we are drafting two of these players in the top 17.
31:27And to me, they have their eyes on 2027 already.
31:30And it's, hey, let's give all these young players a bunch of contract extensions, but don't look at the real thing of
31:36us looking horrible on the field with Tua Tangabalo, who's going to be our starting quarterback and his body has failed him
31:42and he just can't play the position anymore. It really is that simple.
31:46So, when we talk about, like, Kevin Sofancy, I think is a good coach and has shown that at times in his past.
31:52But I do wonder, like, I don't know how to drop Bijan or if you should Drake London at all in your
31:59rankings, but it gives you less hope that this team can escape the bottom three to five offenses this year after seeing
32:05what we saw from Tua last year and seeing this example here, Hayden.
32:09And from a season-long inconsistency standpoint, again, that has my spidey senses tingling with nervousness.
32:13I like the quote card, Josh Norris, Tua can't play the position anymore.
32:16Is it a pretty good one that we can throw out there?
32:20But I agree with it. It wasn't great out there.
32:23Now, we are bearing the lead. Jahan Dotson was out there in two wide receiver sets next to Drake London.
32:28Oh, yeah. Let's go. We could talk about that.
32:31I got Zachariah Branch notes out there after he ran the wrong route and completely botched a screenplay.
32:36But yeah, this is, there's no ancillary pieces in this offense.
32:39I think that Drake London and B.J. Robinson Well, are you talking about Kyle Pitts?
32:43I would not call him ancillary. I thought he was awesome in this game as well.
32:48I thought that his explosiveness really stood out. I think it's like those three and then we're not going to have to
32:54play the other guys or can touch the ball.
32:57But can three people get home when you are possibly a bottom three offense in the league?
33:02This is exactly why I haven't clicked a lot of pits.
33:05This is exactly why I haven't clicked a lot of pits and why I've got him a little bit below ADP because
33:11I think it's, I think it's a stretch to say that three guys can get home if it is going to be this bad.
33:18And look, that is an if. And, you know, I do still have the candle lit for Jahan Dotson.
33:23I was going to make a joke that this was a big win for your reception perception only, you know, leagues.
33:29This was a really good win for the Jahan Dotson bros.
33:32But I mean, pits, the usage is great. Four targets, five routes, continues to flash like what I thought we saw at the end of last season.
33:40But I'm just not sure that like can this offense, because you said Kevin's fancy is a good coach and I agree with you, Josh, he is.
33:47But like, is he a needle moving offensive coach at this point?
33:51You know, we're like, I'm not sure about that.
33:53Tommy Reese is calling plays. It's just, I think you can talk yourself out of pits, even if Hayden and I agree
34:00with you that he has is moving much better and looks like a fundamentally different player than he did in like his second and early third seasons.
34:07Yeah, this is going to be more of a PPR scammy offense, but I think that the defense is in pretty dire
34:13in a pretty dire position right now, especially rushing the passer that I would not be surprised if it's like, you know, it's like NFC South.
34:21These games are like complete slot fest, but to a drops back so many times that like these guys can kind of
34:27PPR scam themselves into not elite seasons, but like enough to kind of pay off these ADPs.
34:32I think like the Kyle Pitts thing is just, it's more of a, you know, it's a click on him just being
34:38this generational prospect that's moving really, really well again.
34:41But, you know, aside from that, I'm not expecting, you know, nine touchdowns out of Kyle Pitts this year.
34:46Well, but even the suggestion of not elite seasons, we're drafting Bijon number two overall.
34:50We're drafting Drake London 17th overall. We're drafting Kyle Pitts 71st overall.
34:54And I hear you on the defense being bad.
34:56And so they'll have to score more points. But guess what?
34:59That also means that your offense has probably stunk for the first three quarters and Jacoby Brissette's not back there ripping passes when you're down 21 points.
35:07It's to a tug of Iloa doing it, who cannot throw the ball downfield right now.
35:12So I am pretty terrified of Kyle Pitts at this moment, despite him visually looking so much better than he has over the last two years.
35:19Yeah. And even just the Drake London thing, too.
35:21You know, he's going 19th overall last week on Yahoo drafts.
35:25Nico Collins 22nd. George Pickens 22nd. It's like, am I taking am I taking somebody from the Falcons offense or I'm taking
35:31somebody from the Cowboys offense, you know, with George Pickens there.
35:34So I can see how you can talk yourself out of Drake London.
35:38It's really hard because I'm a big Drake London fan and I really wanted to get a sense of his usage in
35:44this game because there's another part of me that thinks like if it's John Dotson and like Zach Branch and Alameda Zaccheaus,
35:50are we going to get like another season of Drake London just stuck in the X receiver position because that makes me
35:56feel even worse, you know, about a guy like Tua being the quarterback, but we only got two snaps of him.
36:02So nothing really to say there. So there's your Falcons doom and gloom for this version of the show.
36:08Let's go to the next game here. Vikings 13, Giants 10.
36:11Not a lot to say about the Vikings. I would say maybe the most important thing to note is something I know
36:17Hayden, you've got some notes on the backfield reading your piece.
36:20I would just say that Ty Felton looks like he might be pushing Jawan Jennings for the wide receiver three spot and
36:26Jennings is I know this doesn't matter because it's so late, but every time I pull up like my rankings relative to
36:33ADP on Yahoo, it's like there's a massive gap between where people are drafting Jawan Jennings and where I have him ranked.
36:39So I know that you are aware of that human's name, but maybe don't be drafting Jawan Jennings as the 126 player
36:45off the board in your Yahoo drafts. Anyways, Hayden, what do you got on the backfield in this one?
36:50Yeah, Aaron Jones was starting over Jordan Mason. It was kind of a one-two punch, but there was at least some speculation
36:57that Jordan Mason was too good to ignore versus Aaron Jones.
37:00I think this is an in-the-season as it plays out.
37:03Jordan Mason kind of separates. I do think that Mason looked pretty solid.
37:06Aaron Jones had a couple solid runs as well.
37:09I thought the Ty Felton note was a big one and then also just divvying up the snaps between J.J.
37:15McCarthy and Carson Wentz I thought was interesting in that J.J.
37:18McCarthy only played a few snaps. He came in second and then Carson Wentz played a ton of snaps.
37:23I thought that J.J. McCarthy didn't do much out there, but it was notable that he was in and out so quickly
37:29to the point aren't you trying to develop this guy like you're going to develop him in a quarter of a preseason game.
37:36I thought that was kind of interesting. Just quickly in the backfield, this is the last backfield selected in fantasy football right now, at least on Yahoo.
37:43Jordan Mason is 117th overall and then Aaron Jones is going 120th overall.
37:47All camp reports have said that Jordan Mason has looked spectacular, that he fits this outside wide zone that Frank Smith is bringing from the Miami Dolphins.
37:55I understand on these first few touches if Aaron Jones maybe looks crisp and he looks good, but those same beat writers
38:01have relentlessly said that the Vikings have realized that after 150 touches, his body's done.
38:05It is over for him. He breaks down. So, one, I'm amazed that they gave him a few in preseason, but two,
38:11if you ask me at the end of the season who has more fantasy points, it will be Jordan Mason, but Matt,
38:18to your point, is the gap big enough for us to actually care or is this just going to be a muddied backfield where neither of them matter?
38:26And I guess the point is if Jordan Mason gets eight, nine rushing touchdowns, then it will matter.
38:31But if he gets four or five or six, then yeah, this was a wasted conversation that we had back in August.
38:37I think the move is just to take Jordan Mason and see what happens.
38:41But yeah, the most likely outcome is it's a little bit muddy there.
38:45On the Giants side of things, speaking of breaking down, Jackson Dart gets smoked on a blitz from Tyron Tracy messing up
38:51in pass protection it looked like to my eyeballs.
38:53And then he went into the blue tent and kind of talked about whether that was a conspiracy or not.
38:59So we'll save that for another podcast. But any thoughts on the Giants?
39:03He laid motionless for five seconds. Of course, you're going to get caught into the blue tent when that happens.
39:08I don't know what to say about that. But anyways, on the Giants offense, I think again, the Hayden, the Tyron Tracy
39:15pass protection with maybe doesn't speak so much to his odds to push Cam Scadaboo out of a role.
39:20This is my thing. Like, I don't really want to draft Cam Scadaboo at his super aggressive ADP on Yahoo whatsoever.
39:26But I do kind of wish that the second running back was someone who was a little bit more threatening to take those theoretical carries away.
39:33I think it was the little next snap. Devin Singletary catches a screen pass for like 30 yards and like breaking tackles
39:40to like that's not what exactly what you want to see if you're been drafting Tyron Tracy.
39:44I think like Tajay Spears versus Tyron Tracy after we see in the preseason like those guys should absolutely flip each other in ADP.
39:51But I think I'm just reading into this as like great news for Cam Scadaboo.
39:55He was in a rotation with these other guys but that was not the case this last regular season.
40:01I think that they were just like mixing everybody in no need to give Cam Scadaboo 90% of the touches in a
40:07preseason game when he's coming off that dislocated ankle.
40:10I thought Cam Scadaboo was actually making guys miss running through guys.
40:13I thought that he looked just how he did the last season like I wouldn't have been able to tell that he
40:19was coming off of a major injury if I had not known about it.
40:23So I think that I'm becoming a little bit more optimistic on on Cam Scadaboo.
40:27And I think the Tyron Tracy part of this is like I just don't understand what we're what we're getting here with with selecting him.
40:35Can I talk about the tight ends? Because look, we all love to read into usage and personnel groupings and all this type of stuff.
40:42I will add that the 106th pick overall right now is Isaiah likely.
40:45And in this preseason game with Jackson Dart, he played fewer snaps than Darius Layton, Darnell Mooney, Malachi Fields, Calvin Austin and
40:52Theo Johnson only played one more snap than Chris Mann Hurts and Patrick Picard.
40:56And then he was on the field for what six total snaps and all six were routes.
41:00So, yeah, we love a high route participation rate when you're on the field.
41:04But as we know, unless you're out there basically all the time when it comes to tight fire act to score fancy points.
41:11And so if this is any indication and this is the first example that we have and Isaiah likely is a 50,
41:1755% snap player, that's just not good enough. Like I will not be drafting him a single time if that's the case.
41:23Yeah. Likely is one of those guys, Josh, I think we talked about this last time you were on the show where
41:30if people listen to the show in June, you're like, oh, Harmon really likes Isaiah likely.
41:34But if you listen to the show in August, like he's a guy pushing down the rankings basically every single time, not
41:40just because of everything that you highlighted there, which I think matters a lot for a guy who is kind of as
41:47Nate would say a Tino, like a tight end in name only.
41:50And they've got all these big bodies and they want to be run focused, but he's just not going to dominate the
41:56targets in a way that he would have if Malik neighbors was going to miss a month of the season.
42:02And by the way, like not for nothing, it was kind of a rotation in the receiver room between all these guys.
42:08I did like Malachi Fields second reaction touchdown. They're kind of in a scramble moment from Jackson Darden goes up and mosses someone.
42:15So I think Fields can, you know, it's probably still likely he's the favorite to be the second most targeted player on
42:21the team, but I think Fields could, you know, at least push that a little bit in my mind.
42:26Just quickly on that, Matt, there was even one play when Isaiah likely was off the field and Malachi Fields motion in and insert blocks.
42:33Yeah. And they use them as like a pseudo tight end in that situation.
42:37And he's massive. He's bigger than Isaiah likely it looks like on the field.
42:41So if, if they like, I understand they just gave this contract to Isaiah likely, but there are so many other layers
42:47on this now that I would have loved to see 80% snaps for him instead of six of 16.
42:53Basically, this is where I think like reading into the preseason stuff.
42:56I think like we should be doing that. I think it's likely that Isaiah likely still does finish second and all the
43:02receiving categories, but still on the margins like this was like not exactly how you draw it up.
43:08And I think maybe like the forgotten man in this is definitely Patrick Ricard.
43:12Like if they were using, you know, 21 personnel out there and not 12 personnel, like that's directly impacting the Isaiah likely snaps.
43:18I watched every single one of his snaps. He did not have his hand in the dirt a single time.
43:24He was closer to, you know, a Wandale Robinson than he was Theo Johnson.
43:28And if you look at Theo Johnson, just standing next to Isaiah likely, you can understand why they would want him out there.
43:34Even just Chris Manhurts too. Like that's a guy that's made his living in the NFL is a true inline blocker.
43:40So yeah, it does make the Isaiah likely case pretty thin with guys like Pat Ricard and Chris Manhurts out there.
43:46All right, we're going to take another quick break.
43:49We come back. We're recapping more preseason games. We'll get into that right after this.
43:53All right, we're back. We're talking more preseason week one.
43:56We've been a little negative so far, maybe on the show.
43:59People people are saying negative. I don't know. Not us.
44:02Let's move into Panthers 14 bills 29. I got some nice things to say here.
44:06Josh, your Panthers very exciting stuff from your Panthers here in this game.
44:10Let's let's start out with them. Honestly, not a lot to say about the Carolina Panthers, but we did get clear wide
44:16receiver one wide receiver to T Mac Jalen Coker.
44:18And I thought it was notable that when they did go to 11 personnel, as promised, we did see some Tedaro McMillan in the slot.
44:25Yeah, I'll let Hayden handle the percent snap shares of the slot and all that type of stuff.
44:31I quickly just want to bring up the biggest Panthers news happened last week with Chuba Hubbard being week to week with
44:37his hamstring issue because not only is, you know, Chuba and John Brooks ADP is going to totally flip.
44:42I guess the question now, if we're eliminating a bunch of these, you know, other running backs, so he's going behind Tony Pollard right now behind R.J.
44:50Harvey, so on and so forth. Like I already had him right next to Ramondre Stevenson is running back 30.
44:55And I think with better, you know, backup guard play, John Brooks would have had a couple longer gains.
45:01The backup guards in the context of the Panthers were horrific and ruined drives.
45:05Then we would have gotten to see more and more, but I'm glad he started and finished at least his series three
45:11series because that's a big improvement on someone that we haven't seen in the field for quite some time.
45:16Hayden. Yeah, with John the Brooks, it was in my notes.
45:20I said it was great to see him out there.
45:22I didn't learn anything. There was like nothing that he was doing right or wrong.
45:27Just like, okay, that was a that was an NFL rep.
45:30He's out there and he's going to be out there for this next practice.
45:34That's encouraging to me. I thought that the biggest takeaway here is definitely the Ted Aroa McMillan stuff.
45:39Xavier Leggett, you are new Sacrificial X. Thank you for your services.
45:42We got T-Mac in the slot and that's going to be really big.
45:46I think there's a chance you can have a Drake London type of season.
45:50And I think that if you can get him in round four, that's awesome.
45:54I have moved T-Mac up to 29th overall. I know he's a really good football player and this is exactly how you want the usage to look like.
46:02Yeah, I wrote in Jalen Coker's reception perception profile about how he was so similar to Chris Godwin from the player comparison tool standpoint.
46:09And if you just look at some of Mike Evans's seasons when him and Chris Godwin really popping off, he's like a
46:1527 to 33 percent slot player, which that's all we're looking for with McMillan.
46:19I think we lose the plot sometimes with this stuff where it's like, is he going to become, you know, I'm on Ross St.
46:26No, no, no, no. Like the two totally different things.
46:28But if he just gets if he almost doubles because he was like 15 percent slot last year up to 30 percent,
46:35that would be massive for Ted Aroa McMillan. So he's in that range of the fourth round receivers where just there's going
46:41to be some massive, massive hits from there. And I realize there's the Bryce Young variable hanging over Ted Aroa McMillan, but
46:47a good variable from the preseason usage standpoint, what they've been talking about all offseason.
46:51Let's let's go to the Bills side of things here because Hayden, this was something you highlighted in your piece for Yahoo
46:58DJ Moore's usage performance and then unfortunately did pick up an injury in the game.
47:02Yeah, lots going on here. First of all, I thought that DJ Moore looked pretty solid.
47:06He got a little underneath shallow cross yards after catch.
47:09He did wave over the safety who just immediately just tackled him, which was pretty funny, but he was running.
47:15Got all the confidence. Yes, that's never been like an issue with with DJ Moore, maybe too much confidence at sometimes.
47:21But there was there was 10 dropbacks with Josh Allen, who I thought played really well.
47:25It was a rotation. DJ Moore had seven routes on them.
47:28He would have missed a route because of the injury.
47:31Keyon Coleman, he had seven routes. Shakir, seven routes.
47:34Dalton Kincaid, seven routes. James Cook, six. Dawson Knox, five.
47:37He started in 11 personnel ahead of Dalton Kincaid.
47:39Not a big surprise there. Josh Palmer was out there often, especially in two wide receiver sets.
47:44They might be using the two wide receiver sets as a way to get Josh Palmer on the field a little bit.
47:50And then Ray Davis was out there in the complimentary role.
47:53This is a big rotation is the same one that they were pretty much trying out this last season.
47:59The big news here, though, was DJ Moore got rolled up on.
48:02It was kind of like that, you know, the Jeremiah loved one where you're like, that didn't look that great.
48:08He seems like he was they gave a big thumbs up, but you can sometimes give a big thumbs up after ankle sprain like right away.
48:15And then the next day it's a big thumbs down.
48:18So we'll see about this one. But it's pretty obvious that, you know, the focal point of this was DJ Moore.
48:24I thought they used him properly. Yeah, Matt, we've been talking all summer about Jalen Waddle, you know, former first round wide
48:30receiver gets traded for a high draft pick and now is going to be the figurehead of their passing attack.
48:36Are we in the wrong of not using that same logic with DJ Moore, who on Yahoo is going almost two full
48:42rounds later than Jalen Waddle right now? I don't know.
48:45I mean, I moved him up between two weeks ago to last week.
48:49I moved him up nine spots. I'm about 20 spots ahead of his overall ADP right now, DJ Moore on Yahoo.
48:55So I'm buying more and I like the usage that we saw.
48:58I mean, the rotation, maybe that's a thing. I tend to think that might be a little more preseason ish than anything else.
49:05But yeah, I mean, Hayden, to your point, like they used him the right way.
49:09I think him getting plays in space like that, that just route over the middle of the field, you know, let him
49:15cook with the ball in his hands. That's something that we just never really got to see DJ Moore do in Chicago,
49:21even in the one big year that he had with Justin Fields.
49:25So yeah, Josh, I think that's a good point that it's probably just that more is like efficiency stats have really fallen off the last couple of years.
49:33But I think you can explain some of that away, which is how he didn't fit in Ben Johnson's offense and everything like that.
49:39Plus just different areas of their career. So I wouldn't say like the Jalen Waddle comparison is perfect, but you're the spirit of the point.
49:46I do think I agree with you there. Well, so one thing that kind of kept me from DJ Moore earlier this
49:53summer was just looking at, you know, the the bills pass rate stats over the last three seasons.
49:58I mean, they've been twenty fifth and thirtieth and drop back rate and then twenty second and thirtieth and percent of yards via passing.
50:05But what my brain probably wasn't wrapping itself around was the jump from getting rid of Sean McDermott as head coach.
50:11And now the offensive coordinator becomes that. And, you know, Sean McDermott basically fired the previous offensive coordinator because he wasn't running the football enough.
50:18So maybe his influence was still on Joe Brady.
50:20Hey, you got to run the ball. And then now that the shackles are off Joe Brady, he's just going to pass the ball a lot more.
50:28Right. And we saw that in this game, if that's any sample.
50:31So if they jump up to, I don't know, top 16 and drop back rate and DJ Moore is clear, the number
50:37one wide receiver for this team, albeit his 32 yard gain was on the one of the worst called coverages I've ever seen this preseason.
50:45I mean, it was stupid. They had an edge rusher bounce out to cover the slot receiver.
50:49And then on the snap, he blitzes from 15 yards and there's no one in that section of the field.
50:55But I can't believe that didn't work. I can't believe it.
50:58But yeah, I mean, this is for someone who is good after the catch and then also can win down the field.
51:04Most likely those are kind of like Matt, the only two sections that you really need for a Josh Allen pass catcher to really win with.
51:12And that's DJ Moore's best routes. Yeah. I mean, I'll take the over on basically all other than touchdowns, like the yards
51:18target and reception here that we're showing on the screen right now from the Yahoo projections.
51:22843 yards, 64 catches, 101 targets, especially the 101 targets, because I'm with you, Josh, that like the as Nate has called
51:29it, the substitute teacher effect, you know, Joe Brady taking this over and like it's just going to be more Josh Allen
51:35who sat in on the interviews for this head coaching spot.
51:38Like this is going to be more of what Josh wants to do.
51:42And I think that will be more footballs thrown through the air.
51:45Next game up here, Packers nine Steelers, 28 real quick on the Packers here.
51:49I think definitely some lessons at the wide receiver position.
51:52Not that it was unexpected. I think it kind of went as expected.
51:56If you've been reading the tea leaves, Matthew Golden played in 12 personnel over Jaden Reed, but the team used 11 personnel
52:02a good bit on the first drive snaps went golden nine Christian Watson eight.
52:06He rotated with Savion Williams there and then seven for Jaden Reed.
52:09So Hayden, this was expected from a personnel usage standpoint.
52:12What would you see when the Packers were on the field with the starters for one drive?
52:17Well, I think it's good news that Savion played just one snap.
52:20So I would just call this it was a three wide receiver rotation where in previous seasons that would be five or six.
52:27I think we've already chopped off that part. Savion Williams has not been, you know, lighting things up in training camp either.
52:33It's like it's just these three guys. They're so talented that these guys can get home.
52:38Even someone like Jaden Reed who mixed in only in the three wide receiver set stuff.
52:42But he had a nice catch here. What I noticed and this is something I've been paying attention to is in training camp.
52:49They've been talking about being up tempo and just getting the play calls in is playing faster.
52:53And that was notable to me because they've been literally dead last in neutral pace over the last four seasons with Jordan Love.
53:00The second snap of the game, it wasn't no huddle, but they broke the huddle and snap the ball immediately.
53:06And they did that another time in that drive.
53:08So that's like something that like if it's kind of matching what they're talking about and what the beat reporters have been
53:14writing about, that's at least pretty encouraging because I think part of the problems with, you know, the Jaden Reed type of
53:21profiles, the secondary wide receivers and whatnot. They just don't have enough plates.
53:24We're going to have more plates and there's going to be less rotation.
53:28That's how kind of everybody can get home. They're going to cannibalize each other.
53:32But that was notable that not no huddle, but like no huddle adjacent and just playing with tempo.
53:37I did think that was pretty interesting. And I know they played seven of nine snaps here in 11 personnel.
53:43I would not expect that to continue once we get to the regular season either because you have Luke Musgrave who's sidelined
53:49right now, but Chris Brooks is also sidelined who was their pseudo fullback last year.
53:53And then we all know about Tucker Craft who actually returned to practice today.
53:57Contact tackling practice. So that's like an insta click for me on the board where he's going on Yahoo right now.
54:03But yeah, Matt, we love reading the small samples.
54:06This is the smallest you could ever get that Matthew Golden is going to be out there in two wide receiver sets over Jaden Reed.
54:13But, you know, your assumptions and estimations can take you to the end with that because we all believe that's true.
54:19Yeah, I think that's what's coming here. But just to the point about pace as well, Packers last year, 24th in plays
54:25per game, 22nd in seconds per play. Like there is a chance that that's what changes about this offense.
54:30And that does allow for enough plays for Jane Reed to be a good pick at ADP and Matthew Golden still be a really good pick at ADP.
54:38I mean, Matthew Golden goes so late. It's like who cares?
54:41Even if you're skeptical about the talent profile, you better take them anyway.
54:45So I've been proactively drafting all of these Packers wide receivers because I think that pace report is real.
54:50And I think they're going to throw the football more this year anyways, because the defense isn't going to be as good Steelers side of things here.
54:58The biggest stories were just their rookies looked pretty good.
55:01Drew Aller obviously had himself a big night. Jeremy Bernard, four catches for 51 yards from run after catch skills.
55:07He is competing with Roman Wilson to be the wide receiver three behind a banged up Metcalf and Michael Pittman.
55:12But I mean, it does sound like it's a legit competition, which is kind of crazy to me because I like Jeremy
55:18Bernard way more than I ever liked Roman Wilson coming out of Michigan.
55:22I do wonder if a lot of this decision making comes down to who Aaron Rogers, you know, prefers.
55:28at the same time. It sounds like Jeremy Bernard hasn't been lining it up in camp.
55:32I could be wrong, but then once he gets in the field, Hayden, Jeremy Bernard is just a gamer.
55:37You can line him up anywhere and he'll be a seven and a half out of 10 and give you full effort
55:44and give you, you know, be in the right place at the right time and try to win after the catch.
55:50So I love seeing Jeremy Bernard do exactly what he did at Alabama here in the NFL in the preseason week one.
55:56Yeah, I had him with three broken tackles when I was watching and caught the ball cleanly quick separation on the slant
56:02route nearly scored a touchdown on a broken play guy kind of forced out of there.
56:07But I think he's the more promising starting option for for Roman Wilson.
56:10I think like it would I find him like it's gonna be hard for him to be, you know, fantasy relevant.
56:16Right. Could he be good enough where like Michael Pittman and DK Metcalf and like those guys like they don't pay off
56:23ADP because Jeremy Bernard's like coming on by the end of the season.
56:26I thought that was interesting. And then Caden Wetgen, the rookie returner caught a pass over the middle and was absolutely fly.
56:32Oh, yeah. I mean, he was absolutely flying. And you're like, OK, if that's what he looks like on returns, like maybe
56:39let's throw him the ball a couple more times in training camp.
56:42Just see what we have with him as well.
56:45Josh, I like that point about how a guy like Bernard is probably not a practice player.
56:49There are certain wide receivers like that. It's very obvious who the practice wide receivers are always the contested catch guys who
56:56can't separate or like the twitchy gadgety guys. And then you get into the end of the games like, you know, it's
57:02really helpful to have like a Jeremy Bernard type player who can actually get open and be in the right spots and stuff like that.
57:09I kind of think this is like why Raiders reporters are always like Jack Besch looks terrible in camp and then you
57:15throw him the football and it's like, oh, he looks pretty good out there.
57:19So some of these guys, they're just not practice players.
57:22One guy who might not be a practice player or a pro player.
57:26And I hate to be mean here right before we go to break.
57:29But Caleb Johnson, I just want to say like, if you took him in the first round of your is he the
57:36worst first round dynasty pick of all time? Like, I mean, I know my memory is really short here.
57:41I'm sure there's been worse, but my God, like he was a first he was like a consensus first round dynasty pick last year.
57:48Did not see a single snap until midway through the third quarter on this one.
57:52Not ideal. Yeah. I mean, played behind Travis Homer and Lou Nichols.
57:55And I was hoping for Caleb Johnson's sake that it was, it was one of those cases where he was just dressed,
58:02but wasn't actually going to play because you could see him on the sideline dressed in those shots.
58:07And then no, it was just because he didn't play until halfway through the third quarter.
58:11It is so over. It is so over for Caleb Johnson.
58:14There you go. There's another quote graphic for Josh Norris coming out of this show.
58:19All right. We're going to take a quick break.
58:21When we come back, we're going to rapid fire through some more of these games because some of these teams did not
58:27do anything of note in the preseason. We'll get into that right after this.
58:31All right. We're back. Next game up here. Browns 10 bears 34.
58:35Let's start with the Browns here because not too much to say on the Chicago side of things here.
58:40Josh, two important notes on this Browns team. One, the state of the quarterback competition and then maybe a little more exciting Browns rookie wide receivers.
58:48Much more exciting Browns rookie wide receivers. I'll go there because there was an early third and five.
58:53Casey Conception wins his slant in the slot. I mean, creates instant three yard separation.
58:57Meanwhile, at the bottom of the screen in isolation, Denzel Boston wins his curl beyond the sticks with hand use exactly how you hope Denzel Boston does it.
59:05So again, when Todd Munkin handpicked these two players, that's exactly what you want to see in preseason activity.
59:10And then to expand it with Casey Conception because he had a lot more touches in this one.
59:15Ton of slot work. He did have a couple 12 personnel snaps.
59:19We can get into that because that is intriguing how much they're rotating that versus how we kind of perceive to be rigid with all these other teams.
59:27But he was the easy button. You know, we got two manufacturer touches basically carries here.
59:31There was a rub wheel that he got open down the field.
59:35And so my overarching point is with Todd Munkin loving these wide receivers and with this quarterback situation being horrible and this offense being very much a concern.
59:43Hayden, that brings me to is Casey Conception now going to be Todd Munkin's easy button when they need yards, when they
59:49need a completion, when they need a first down versus what Harold Fannin was last year for Kevin Stefanski.
59:54And that would make me very nervous of hitting Harold Fannin's name right now in drafts.
59:59Yeah, with Tucker Kraft healthy, I thought that Pitts looked good and then you have obviously like Sam Laporta.
60:04I think that I would have Harold Fannin definitely last of that group and I think I would rank him like maybe comfortably last.
60:11Look, Casey Concepcion was an awesome prospect. I nearly had him inside my top 10 overall rankings.
60:16I know that both of you guys actually loved him as well.
60:19So none of this is surprising to me. I think one of the big things is he plays more physical and tough
60:25and maybe it's not those who maybe just density where you saw that on that touchdown where he was breaking off or
60:32breaking some tackles and then diving for the pylon there.
60:34Like that's like to me the difference between I think a lot of the comps that he kind of gets associated with
60:41where I think he's maybe a tier above that.
60:43I think like my upside comp was like closer to like Steph Diggs and we haven't even seen him like win all
60:49the way down the football field which I know he absolutely can out there.
60:53So I did really encouraging Josh to your point there.
60:56He didn't start in two wide receiver sets but they did use them in two wide receiver sets in the next drive
61:02or two and I thought that was important because this is not like a Jaden Reed situation where maybe he's not dense enough for two wide receiver sets.
61:10There's no rules here with Casey Concepcion as the season plays out.
61:14He's just going to kick Jerry Judy to the side and I would put him Casey Concepcion as my favorite for most
61:20receptions on this team even over Harold Fannin. I echo everything you guys just said there.
61:25I mean number one I already had Harold Fannin ranked kind of comfortably last of this group.
61:29I thought frankly I think that Pitts is in the same tier as Fannin though.
61:34So for me it's like get your tight end before these guys before you have to start messing around with guys who might not lead the team.
61:41They're bad offenses and targets like get Sam Laporta get Tucker Craft get Tyler Warren those guys you know obviously close and
61:47level than everybody else goes a little bit earlier.
61:50So to me I've liked shopping in that tier of tight ends just so you're not in this bucket and yeah man
61:56Casey Concepcion is so good him and Boston both of them were just like that's exactly what I thought they'd look like on the NFL field.
62:04I know this is preseason obviously but it was very much an actualization of what these guys were supposed to be as
62:10prospects and you guys know this has been so much hype for Boston on the Twitter streets like people have been Boston's having a great camp.
62:17I'm sure he is because I think Denzel Boston should have been drafted in the first round to me it feels like
62:23because this offense we don't even honestly we don't even need to talk about the quarterback situation.
62:28You guys can find it. It's not great. You want to talk about it?
62:32I don't know. Here's here's here's the take. It's not good.
62:35It's not going to be good but I think because of that Concepcion will get all these easy button touches like you're
62:42mentioning Josh and then the move will be by Denzel Boston in Dynasty because I wouldn't be surprised honestly if like Jerry
62:48Judy's not even on this roster by the end of the season like is he a midseason trade deadline candidate.
62:54I would think that actually would make some sense for some teams.
62:57And just to nerd out one final time on the two wide receiver stuff.
63:01Boston Judy Casey Concepcion and Isaiah Bond all got two wide receiver snaps.
63:05And apparently this is exactly how it's been going in training camp practices too.
63:09So that's good, right? We want these two wide receiver set players out there on the field.
63:13And yeah, just to reiterate the point, this team is going to go through some long bad spots in games for multiple weeks.
63:20And so Todd Munkin, it's very clear he's going to go into certain matchups and say, OK, when we need a first
63:26down at some point after going three and out three straight times, I'm going to call this play, this play in this
63:32play to Casey Concepcion to hopefully get us at least an extra set of downs.
63:37We saw it with, you know, under these stuff, we saw it with the manufactured rushes and that's awesome.
63:42And hey, now I'll say it for you. The consistent comparison for him was, you know, Zay Flowers and what he did
63:48as a tackle breaker inside of the five yard line to score that touchdown.
63:52He actually matched what Zay Flowers did last year in terms of scoring, you know, inside the 20 yard line touchdowns last year already.
63:59So we were this close, by the way, for Concepcion to rip off a punt return touchdown.
64:04He picked up a bunch of yards. He almost broke it off.
64:07He's a little shoestring tackle on him. And I obviously would have been leading the show as well.
64:12I'm fired up for Casey in conception. I'm not fired up for some goofball on the Internet to call him like a
64:18PPR scam at some point this year just because of the usage and the way the Browns offense is going to go.
64:25So I'm going to I'm going to preemptively not get mad about that by just getting it off my chest.
64:30Now Bears really nothing to say about this team because they didn't play their starters, whatever.
64:35But one important note, we found this out as we were recording the show.
64:39Ozzy Trapillo left tackle who ruptured his patella tendon in the playoffs in January was activated off the PUP list.
64:45So keep an eye on that because that's been one of the questions.
64:48Very few questions about the Bears offense overall. But let's go to another game here.
64:52Dolphins seven commanders 20. Dolphins first drive Hayden with Malik Willis, Caleb Douglas big catch here on this one.
64:58What'd you think? First of all, Devon HM played all 14 snaps on the first drive, had a goal line touchdown.
65:04You know what they're saying in training camp is he's not coming off the field.
65:08They're going to give him the ball a bunch of times.
65:11He got seven carries on that drive. It looked awesome.
65:14Like, I mean, this team has to be really bad for Devon HM to not be a good pick where he's being drafted, in my opinion.
65:21Uh, and, uh, I felt good about how the offensive line looked, which I think I seen the consensus rankings of a bottom five offensive line.
65:29I just, I just don't believe that that's going to be the case this year.
65:33But, um, Caleb Douglas, Malik Washington, those were near full-time players.
65:36Lots of two wide receiver sets, uh, which I think is smart usage for the Dolphins based off their personnel.
65:42Yeah. I have Devon HM ahead of Ashton Chinty right now.
65:45I'll be at the 11th running back. I mean, this whole glut of running backs is so difficult for me to rank,
65:51but this Dolphins rushing scheme, as we saw with the opening 14 plays and him playing every single snap, uh, Bobby Sloan
65:57went back to, you know, his Houston Texans, I guess roots during CJ Strauss rookie year.
66:02And they just ran a whole bunch of heavy personnel looks.
66:05I mean, you had Kazmarek Dulcich, a fullback in there with DJ Herman.
66:09And that's pretty good for a rushing attack. And then that's also good for whatever two wide receivers were on the field, Matt.
66:15And that Caleb Douglas was the only other skill player not named Devon HM to stay on the field for every single one of Malik Willis's snaps.
66:23Uh, it's enticing. I mean, he did have that big catch and then earlier he should have had what a 32 yarder
66:29as well, but he stepped out and missed the sideline.
66:32So it's like by reading the training camp reports, it's these small little mistakes that he has either a drop or the
66:38sideline awareness and those types of things. But if you can get them ironed out and we know the drops aren't sticky,
66:44then you're looking at another exciting rookie that has clear areas that he wins and hopefully like some areas of development that
66:51he includes once the season goes along too. Yeah, I think just because like no one cared about him as a prospect,
66:57nobody is really paying attention to the buzz that he's been getting from the Miami Dolphins training camp.
67:02And this has been what it was like. It's him and Malik Washington are the one and two and Washington had like a four air yards per target.
67:10I think Washington could be an interesting player. But to me, if you're drafting one of these guys, it is it is Caleb Douglas for sure right now.
67:18And yeah, A-chan, I think we've gone far enough, you know, 17th overall player like any sort of concern I think has
67:24been priced in to the ADP here. And I did think the formations and stuff really interesting on that team there.
67:30So I don't want to like I've already gone down the Cardinals curious path far enough.
67:35I don't know if I can get like Miami metal some or something here, but I think this offense could be at least like interesting for fantasy.
67:42Like and I think we can just kind of leave it there.
67:46And go ahead. Just real quick on that, Matt.
67:48I think a lot of people view, you know, Malik Willis as the shotgun quarterback that runs around.
67:53Go watch him with the Packers and like last year against the Ravens and go watch him just in this preseason.
67:59And you'll see a guy from under center play action, stay in the pocket.
68:03Oh, yeah. These throws and like work in a confined space.
68:06So if he has that plus then the scrambling that is ridiculous, then again, he is on my radar, especially in these super flex leagues.
68:13And at some point, I think in single quarterback leagues, he's going to be a pickup for someone out there and is
68:20going to start some games for you. A hundred percent.
68:22Commander is not much here, honestly, on this one.
68:25Katron Allen had a big night. Robert Henry Jr.
68:28I'd love your scouting report on Robert Henry Jr.
68:30Josh Norris. But yeah, I don't think we got much from the command unless unless any of you guys have something I think we can move on.
68:38Go ahead. I do just quickly. We opened after the NFL draft thinking, wow, this team has no wide receivers.
68:43We can draft Antonio Williams because he's the surefire slot guy that maybe can jump in there.
68:48I don't think it's a great sign that Hayden Antonio Williams played so deep into this that he's going to like cut
68:54into any of the you know, the real wide receiver snaps here right now.
68:58Well, it's quite the list of names. He came in after Traylon Burks, Luke McCaffrey, Diami Brown, Van Jefferson and Jalen Lane.
69:05Then he came in after that. Not a good sign.
69:07Yeah, not a good sign. Okay. Next game up here.
69:10Eagles seven Ravens 24. Let's start on the Eagle side.
69:13My only note from this one was that Dontavian Rick's Dontavian Wicks rested with the starters.
69:18So we're so back on the Dontavian Wicks stuff.
69:20But Hayden, any other notes on the Eagles offense out of this one?
69:24Andy Dalton was playing ahead of Tanner McKee, which is a little bit notable to me.
69:28I like surprised that they're like trying to replace Tanner McKee, but a good problem to have your the Eagles bad problem to have Eli Stowers blocking.
69:36I mean, he went over to in two different ways.
69:39He was blocking a corner and got called for a holding.
69:42And then he had a split block where he pulled up like pretty early before an offensive or before an outside linebacker
69:48to the point like that's a slot wide receiver and he has not been lighting it up in training camp.
69:54No, I would not be surprised if he plays like almost like zero snaps this season.
69:58And I think they should consider a positional change.
70:01He's not done anything in camp. And for the reasons I was nervous about him, I mean, he was a complete no show.
70:08And on top of that, speaking of zero snaps, we have seen zero snaps from Makai Lemon so far and we're seeing these other rookie wide receivers flash.
70:15We talked about the Browns. I mean, Hayden, are we at the point where we were ranking Deshaun Stripling ahead of Makai Lemon for this entire season?
70:23This is the second time you're trying to bait me into this.
70:27I'm sleeping on this. I will see you. We have a show on this on Tuesday.
70:31Wide receiver rankings changes. Let's talk about it then after I've had like a couple nights of good sleep.
70:36I'll just say yes. Josh, I don't need any nights of sleep.
70:40I'll say yes. You should be drafting Stripling ahead of Makai Lemon right now.
70:44I'm ranking him higher too. Right now here on August 16th.
70:47You're the only one who's tentative on this and shy.
70:50Well, you can see the hat. Fair point. Well, hey, this perfect transition there, USC, USC's own Jacoby Lane.
70:55We're talking Ravens here on the other side of it.
70:58Very impressive night for some of the Ravens rookies.
71:01Jacoby Lane, 15 of 15 snaps with Tyler Huntley caught a touchdown on in breaker.
71:05I mean, at this point, he's the wide receiver three at worst on this team.
71:09I think he can be the designated X, which is my new little X receiver archetype that I'm workshopping here on this one.
71:16Elijah Serrat, who is like more of a backup.
71:18Also, I think is playing in the correct role.
71:21And Adam Randall, I think might be like a sneaky running back insurance policy that is going under the radar right now.
71:27But Hayden, talk about Jacoby Lane here, your boy.
71:29I really liked Jacoby Lane at USC. Yeah, I mean, the designated X stuff, it's pretty nice.
71:34I actually like this one. I'm gonna give it a big thumbs up for you, Matt.
71:39There we go. Let's go. Jacoby Lane obviously scored the touchdown on a crossing route.
71:43Two of the first first downs, you got a third and one hitch route, a smooth adjustment to his back shoulder.
71:49I think like I always kept going back to his tape at USC and like, is he being smooth and slow and
71:55methodical on purpose or is this like all he has?
71:58But he tested really well and he's got the biggest hands in the NFL.
72:02He's really interesting to watch because he has tractor beam hands.
72:05It's wild. Totally wild. It's he's an interesting guy in the route because he's got those hands like moving all up and down.
72:12He's like not a like very crisp route runner.
72:14It is yet to matter to this point. I think it's he's going to push Rashad Bateman in two wide receiver sets as this continues.
72:21I think there's a lot of development that still needs to happen with Jacoby Lane.
72:26But if you're going to be a one trick pony like going up and catching the ball routinely like that's a pretty, pretty good trick.
72:33Yeah, I mean, if you put together his 10 best catches as an NFL draft prospect, he probably had the 10 best highlight reel grabs of anyone.
72:40It was it was that absurd. Now, almost all of those were their end zone grabs or sideline grabs.
72:46And what I really liked here is we got some real middle of the field catches, you know, some of them are
72:52on second phase and some things like that. But just his willingness to work over the middle where at USC it felt
72:58like he didn't at all was intriguing. He's a fascinating personality on top of it, Matt.
73:03So, yeah, Jacoby Lane is again, one of these players that might have some anchoring because of pre-draft opinions.
73:08He was drafted well ahead of Elijah Surratt, who, you know, people had ranked much higher than him as a prospect.
73:14And Surratt played very deep into this game. And Jacoby Lane, albeit without, you know, Zay Flowers and Rashad Bateman, basically left
73:20once, you know, the real players left here too.
73:23Yeah. Listen, Lane is not a separator and I don't think he ever will be.
73:27I mean, maybe that changes, but there's a lot of things that he brings to the table that will make that not
73:33be like if we're talking about him being a high volume player, he will have to get better as a separator.
73:39Just every nobody that's not a separator doesn't get a lot of targets like it just doesn't happen.
73:44But he can be a really helpful player to the Ravens, make the offense better and allow these guys to all move
73:51around more like Zay Flowers, like Rashad Bateman as that designated X, like come in in 11 personnel, be the X receiver
73:57while Bateman is you'll get with it. Don't worry when you see this because it hasn't happened yet, Josh, but this is the situation where it will happen.
74:05So trust me, we'll put it. We'll put a pin in this storyline and we'll get you on board here.
74:10Hayden's giving it two thumbs up to the designated X receiver.
74:13But yeah, I mean, tractor beam hands, infectious ability on the football field.
74:17That is what Jacoby Lane does. And I think that does matter for the overall Ravens offensive ecosystem.
74:22OK, we are going to take our final quick break.
74:25When we come back, we got seven more games to rapid fire through.
74:29Luckily, not a lot happened in those games. We'll get into that right after this.
74:33All right, we're back. We are rounding out our preseason week one recap with seven games in seven minutes.
74:38So we got to be efficient here with these ones.
74:41Lions, 14. Bengals, 16. You know what? Not sure we learned anything about the Lions.
74:45Nothing to really say there. But Josh, you've got something, Josh.
74:49All right, you're already derailing the show. Good. Quick thing.
74:51Go ahead. Isaac Tesla apparently has not taken the second year leap.
74:55He had a drop that led to an interception in this one.
74:58So there is no wide receiver three on the Lions right now.
75:02So I was hoping more from my guy Tesla, but apparently we don't get it.
75:06That is a good note. He did have a highlight catch in practice, though, as we are taping this.
75:11But he's kind of aggressively drafted in Yahoo leagues.
75:14He's like the 126th overall player off the board.
75:16I'm wide receiver 49, by the way, last week in ADP.
75:19So yeah, I think that can drop a little bit on the Isaac Tesla stuff.
75:24So good note, Josh, on that one. Bengals, Hayden, pretty much consistent with the camp reports.
75:28They're trying to do some more under center stuff and the results were mixed.
75:32Yeah, first four plays were under center. I don't really care about it that much.
75:36They said they wanted to like in the four minute drills be able to like run the ball a little bit better.
75:43I think they'll end up figuring this out or if it's not working, they'll just abandon it.
75:48Next game up here, Rams 20 Chiefs 12 on the Rams side of things.
75:51The the victory laps were out in full. I saw when I checked on social media for time for time.
75:57Do either do either one of you want to apologize to the backup quarterback brigade?
76:01Either one of you two. No, I think Ty Simpson got great protection and then they rolled him out quite a bit.
76:08I'm excited to watch him for for two more preseason games.
76:11Hayden. Yeah, he executed what he was supposed to do, but it was like a Mickey Mouse offense.
76:16So like, yeah, it was cool, but not moved.
76:18I wish I could give credit to who said it, but I saw it while scrolling.
76:23So I forgot. But somebody was like, I know the Jimmy Garoppolo offense when I see it.
76:28And that is how I felt about Ty Simpson in the preseason last night.
76:32Chiefs rookies, though, didn't see much from any, you know, big chiefs player, but we did get a Cyrus Allen couple moments there.
76:38So that was cool for your boy personally. And Emmett Johnson played pretty well in his case to be Kenneth Walker's direct backup.
76:45I think this is a big deal for Emmett Johnson.
76:48I mean, he lined up behind Brashard Smith, I think, in the playing order, but then he was clearly the better player
76:54once entering in the second quarter to the point where I think we can immediately call Emmett Johnson like the handcuff in this offense.
77:01And, you know, that that was kind of up in the air with Imari Demarcato's name also being mentioned prior to this to Hayden.
77:07Yeah, with Johnson spin move touchdown called back by a hold, but that was a great rep for him.
77:13And then the TV TV booth, they spent time with all these players pregame.
77:17They absolutely love their time with them and Johnson, the coaching staff absolutely loves them.
77:21And then Imari Demarcato, I thought he was like not playing.
77:24And then at the very end of the game went in there.
77:28So I thought it was Demarcato versus Johnson. I for sure would be ranking Johnson ahead at this point.
77:33Next game up Colts 13 Patriots 13. Yes, a disgusting tie here in the preseason.
77:37Ashton Juleen rested with the starters with Josh Downs and the rest of the guys there.
77:42But Anthony Richardson got to play a little bit.
77:44Aiden, what'd you see? A little bit of good, a little bit of bad.
77:48He was kind of all over the place. The interception wasn't his fault, but you know, the fumble was playing ahead of Riley Leonard for now.
77:56Yeah, we'll see. Matt, I'm screwing up this order.
77:58How do we do this entire show and give you not even 30 seconds to talk about Cyrus Allen?
78:04My question to you, okay? When you watch Cyrus Allen this weekend, what wide receiver does he move like that you've gone back through in like your Rolodex?
78:11I mean, I don't know if I do want me to make this proclamation off the off the preseason stuff or like the actual charting.
78:19You love Cyrus Allen. You've been curious. And now everyone's seen him and he loves him.
78:23Yeah, no. Listen, when Cyrus Allen is the next Stefan Diggs, you just remember who said it first.
78:28It wasn't the Chiefs. Okay, it was me. So that's how I feel.
78:32It was me. All right. I want that. I want that in the history books.
78:36Okay, yeah. No, Cyrus Allen. I don't know if he's like draftable and redraft leagues, but we definitely don't need, you know,
78:42we need way fewer than one beer. We need like negative two beers to tell the truth on Cyrus Allen on the main channel here.
78:49Just one final point on that. If we think Patrick Mahomes in this offense is going to be good this year and
78:56we don't like drafting Rashi Rice and I don't by the way and right.
79:00And then Travis Kelsey, we don't want to draft and all these other players.
79:04We don't want to draft and are we just drafting Cyrus Allen?
79:07Like, is he the one that we're underrating at this point other than can walk to the third that we love drafting in round two?
79:14I mean, listen, I'm just not drafting a lot of Patrick Mahomes or I'm not that interested in passing offense this year,
79:20but I do think Cyrus Allen is a legit player.
79:23Not much on the New England Patriots. Demario Douglas looks like he's the starting slot and Kyle Williams had a couple of cool moments here.
79:30So next game Buccaneers 24 Jets 16. Nothing to say on the Bucs here other than Ted Hurst had a couple of cool moments.
79:37You know, nothing really important. They're coolish. Some not so cool moments as well.
79:41Jets though. Brees Hall looks like a feature player and I wanted to touch quickly on the Omar Cooper Jr.
79:47Like no longer the starting slot. Isaiah Williams has leapfrogged him.
79:50Apparently I wasn't really drafting Omar Cooper Jr. I don't think he's somebody that really should be draftable and redraft leagues even
79:56before this, but I wouldn't freak out about this long term.
79:59I actually think Cooper actually looked pretty good on his touches in the preseason.
80:03I was listening to Connor Rogers talk about this that they just wanted to like reward Isaiah Williams who's had a really
80:09strong camp, but the fantasy takeaway here boys and I'll let you either one of you take this.
80:14The real fantasy takeaway is that if you're drafting a hate yourself jet sleeper late, it's it's 80 Mitchell.
80:20It's not Omar Cooper Jr. Yeah, two wide receiver sets snaps in this one.
80:24It's like no question to be at an I Mitchell to me.
80:27I know the biggest takeaway aside from from the Omar stuff was Brees Hall played 10 of 11 snaps for Braylon Allen came in there.
80:34Like we haven't seen that in a long time.
80:37If Brees Hall on the field for that much behind that offensive line, I think that we could have a career year for Brees Hall.
80:44He's been my favorite pick in the third round since Malik neighbors has gone into round two.
80:49These last three games here, Jags 24 Saints 20 Chargers 27 Texans 7 Cowboys 17 Seahawks 7.
80:54I honestly don't really have any functional critical notes on any of these.
80:57So I'll let you guys Hayden. You've got one on anything here.
81:01Go for it. The fact that Keaton Mitchell didn't play was interesting to me because he rested with the starters and then
81:07Kimani Vidal was out there for a lot and then a Rondi Gadsden was out there while Charlie Kohler and David Njoku rested.
81:13So I think, you know, we can read into this Gadsden.
81:16You can't draft. And I think that Keaton Mitchell like the sleeper buzz.
81:20It's not quieting. Yeah. Gadsden's been one of the worst picks on the board all summer long.
81:25I mean, in ultra, I wrote him up as like the worst Titan pick out there.
81:29I mean, he could not block last year and then you bring in Mike McDaniel and you bring in fullbacks and Titans
81:36and then he gets his opportunity to show you can block and it was a very mixed bag of it.
81:41So he's still going as the hundred and thirty sixth overall player.
81:45Can't do it. And then just like Keaton Mitchell sat Hayden, Woody Marks also sat with Dave Montgomery.
81:50And that's notable too, that it's those guys. And then even in practices, you're seeing not a 75% workload here for Dave Montgomery.
81:56It's closer to about 60 or 55%. So that's on my radar.
82:00All I'll say to that is that Josh, if what you're saying and I believe you, by the way, about the Arande Gadsden stuff.
82:07I mean, the fantasy receipts account is going to be able to pay the mortgage off on just like November or mid-October
82:13to mid-November ish tweets on Arande Gadsden on the internet last year because there was quite a firestorm.
82:18And yeah, I don't even know how much he's going to play this year, much less impact your fantasy football teams.
82:24Boys, appreciate you for doing this. You guys, what are you doing this like all again tomorrow, right?
82:29On the Josh and Hayden show. And Tuesday. We split it in half between running backs and wide receivers.
82:34So we go back to back episodes on Monday and Tuesday with all this stuff.
82:39So we've got even more tomorrow. So the good news is if you just felt like you left this show and you
82:45did not get quite enough preseason sicko level recap, these guys are going to have like another three plus hours on that.
82:51Who knows? So make sure you subscribe to their channel just like you're subscribing to this channel.
82:56If you're not subscribing to both channels, all three of us are personally offended and we take that as an insult.
83:02But the good news here is that you're going to be with us all month long.
83:06You're also going to be with Yahoo all month long because it is our 29th year of fantasy football.
83:12And to celebrate day seven of 29, we are revealing three new big tools.
83:16Now in the Yahoo fantasy app record book, league history, top scores, past champs, pre-draft rankings, set them right there from your phone and draft ordering.
83:23Yes. Commissioners. You're going to set the draft order in app.
83:26Okay. So you can settle that thing offline, however you'd like to do it.
83:30Then you can set it in app. Pretty exciting stuff.
83:33They're also exciting. Justin Boone joins me on the show for a very special edition of the pod as we let Boone
83:39go full sicko mode on strength of schedule. He's going to join me for fantasy schedules.
83:44You need to take advantage of this season. That is right here for Pam Eastern on this channel.
83:49Subscribe if you haven't already until then we are out.
83:52Out.
